Product Description:

The "D" series incorporates double-element achromatic design for maximum optical performance. This close-up attachment can be used with most EF lenses to provide a shorter minimum focusing distance with no loss of light.

Changes closest focusing distance from infinity to 500mm (approx. 19.7" from front of lens). The 500D works best with telephoto lenses from 70-300mm, manual focusing is recommended.

Note: New Canon manufacturer number is 2824A002

4 out of 5 stars.  I nice tool for the bag that I use occasionally, August 25, 2009
This turns your long zoom into an effective macro lens. It is good for when you want to get tight focusing but don't have the luxury of close quarters working distance of a traditional macro lens. I have used this effectively. It is definitely an occasional use tool. I have probably used it 6 or 7 times since I bought it. Even though this is a Canon product I use it on my Nikon lenses. It really doesn't matter, it would work on any lens that takes 77mm filters.

5 out of 5 stars.  Amazing Gadget--Macro shooting for a great price, June 19, 2009
Love this little guy. Yeah, it's more expensive than the cheap ones you find at some camera stores, but this "lens" has a double element, takes sharp pictures, and is oodles better than any other close up filter you can get. I use it with my Nikon D80--you need to purchase a step-up ring, as this is designed for Canon lenses, but they're cheap and simple to use. Two thumbs up, five big stars.

4 out of 5 stars.  great macro, January 15, 2009
i really did not know what to expect when i got this "lens" i have been truly surprised. i have taken about 500 shots, 50 keepers so far. mostly leaves and seeds. it is not what i call a true macro lens. but it beats having my bag on me at all times. i went for a walk and had it in my pocket. put it on my 70-200 and it did an outstanding job. does not work so well with the wide angle lens eg 17-40. bit of a learning curve, but once you get the idea, it does do a good job.
for the money, it is well worth the investment.

5 out of 5 stars.  A macro for 1/4 the cost of a macro, November 24, 2008
I got this lens to work with my Sony A700 and Tamron 70-200 2.8 zoom. That lens already has Macro capability but only 1:3. This lens brings it to about 1:1.
I haven't done any scientific tests with it, but with some casual shooting it has preformed great. The tough thing with macro is always that the depth of field is short. Once you learn how to focus and even bracket your focusing things work out much better.

Bottom line, I'm glad I got it.

Mike

5 out of 5 stars.  Great for Macro, October 20, 2008
This turned my 70-200 into a superlative macro lens on par with a dedicated macro.
