Product Description:

Mercer Mayer's very popular Little Critter is on his way to the dentist. It's a thorough check-up, complete with dental x-rays. When Dr. Ghum insists on filling a cavity, Little Critter goes through it bravely. The visit is painless to the reader because of Little Critter's funny, honest way of look at things -- including the world of dentistry.

3 out of 5 stars.  Do some editing for a first time visit to the dentist by a childFo, November 26, 2009
For some reason it hard to find a children's book that shows denistry in a positive, non-hurtful way. This book comes close, but Little Critter ends up with a cavity on his very first visit and the dentist pulls out a huge needle. Although the book presents dentistry, for the most part, in a positive, non-scary light for the young child, the needle and the cavity were not needed.

1 out of 5 stars.  not for preschoolers, June 14, 2008
Got this for my 3 year old's first dentist visit. Horrendous book. A 3 year old doesn't need to know about cavities and shots. too scary!! Plus the illustrations are not nice to look at. I would not recommend this book to anybody.

1 out of 5 stars.  AWFUL!!!, January 14, 2008
I work in a Pediatric Dental practice. I ordered this book for my son and for his class, my niece and nephews. I threw them all away b/c they show the needle, which NEVER happens and is one way to get your child to be afraid of going to the dentist. In the end, Little Critter gets a lollipop for being so good, and granted the jar in the background says "Sugar Free", preschool aged kids cannot read. I was very disappointed b/c I love Little Critter, but not a good idea to get your child excited about going to the dentist.

5 out of 5 stars.  great for 2+ years old preparing for 1st dental visit, October 19, 2007
I am a dental hygienist and have been looking for a book to recommend to prepare young children for their first dental visit. This book stays away from scarier terms that I have seen in other books, and has a very positive influence.

5 out of 5 stars.  just going to the dentist, April 3, 2007
This is a very cute book that is great for little kids getting ready to go to the dentist for the first time. Some of the terms used are a little out of date but, this is an overall great book for little ones.
