Product Description:

Now in its second edition, the best-selling Color Atlas of Forensic Medicine and Pathology is an easy-to-read reference covering forensic pathology principles, from basic to advanced concepts relating to all manners of death. Featuring over 1600 full-color images, including 400 more photographs than the first edition, this book provides unparalleled photographic illustration to enhance understanding for medical and non-medically trained personnel.

Providing thorough visual demonstrations of postmortem changes of the human body, the book presents the different kinds of patterns produced in deaths resulting from

  • Natural causes
  • Diagnostic procedures
  • Therapeutic procedures
  • Substance abuse
  • Poisoning
  • Child abuse
  • Firearms
  • Blunt instruments
  • Sharp instruments
  • Burns
  • Asphyxia

The book also includes an entirely new section on histopathology. The text uses specific, detailed language to describe what is represented in each photo and to make side-by-side comparisons of similar but distinct pathologies. The Color Atlas of Forensic Medicine and Pathology, Second Edition is an invaluable professional reference for death investigators, medical examiners, and forensic pathologists.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for seeing anatomy, pathology, and keeping med school interesting!, August 28, 2014
By Thhhomas
Great book that I even found useful as a medical student. The book helped me connected everything I was learning in anatomy and pathology. Overall I found it fascinating and it really sparked my interest in pathology. The captions are succinct. Some are thought provoking like how a jar full of fetuses was left in an abandoned doctor's office for 30 years, I really want to know more about that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A reference library must have., March 31, 2014
By James
I have been a Death Investigator for only two and a half years and still consider myself a novice. I was reluctant to purchase this book at first because of the hefty price. I have not been disappointed in the least. It is exactly what I hoped it would be. The chapters are well written, concise and easy to understand and the photo images are large, sharp and in vivid color. As a visual learner, I could not be more pleased. Anyone involved in medicolegal death investigation should save their pennies and add this book to their reference library.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A Must Have Forensic Pathology Resource, April 12, 2010
By B. OREILLY
A fresh insight into the study of Forensic Pathology. A must have for those studying forensic medicine, pathologists or anyone involved in medical-legal practice. A well planned manuscript with a logical chapter layout. Each chapter is logically developed with impressive photography that superbly compliments the writing that is concise and informative. The authors write with knowledge and a passion for the subject matter that has been lacking in forensic medicine for a long time, reflecting the resurgence in popularity of this fascinating medical specialty. As a practicing Forensic Pathologist I would highly recommend this book to anyone studying for pathology boards, forensic pathology fellows, practicing pathologists, forensic investigators and attorneys involved in criminal and civil law.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Atlas, March 18, 2010
By D. Semeraro
This atlas is a great resource not only for Forensic Pathologists, but also forensic investigators and students. The chapters begin with article length text introducing the subject in a clear and concise manner. The pictures are detailed and offer variations from the classic "text book" examples of various postmortem conditions encountered at autopsy to provide the reader with a greater knowledge to face atypical manifestations.
