5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love this book, April 30, 2010
By Voltron (Parts unknown)
This book has been labeled as outdated and obsolete.. But I beg to differ. The trick comes in how you use the book. I took the dental board part II about 9 years ago and I used the test book for the pharmacology section. I was amazed how many questions where similar. I had gone over the questions so many times that I learned the drugs their effect and so forth... Like I said the trick comes in how you use the book. To me I sort of used it like dental decks for Pharmacology and I socre in the 95th percentile at that time.

Here is how I used it:

Most questions I just study like dental decks. for example

Which antibiotic is structually related both structually and by mode of action to Penicillins.

Ans... Cephalosporins

The above question are just facts and is you just memorize them you are learning the facts.

the book the has another question formatt that I tweeked to make it into a fact question.

eg..

Which of the following is NOT produce by excessive doses of Acetylsalicyclic acid

a. Delirium b. Tinnitus, c. Hypothermia, D. Hyperventilation E. Metabolic acidosis

answer is C

The above question I tweaked and made it into a fact question so What I did was make the question like this

Which of the following is produced by excessive doses of acetylsalicyclic acid.

and the answer are a b d and e

I made it into a factoid and thats what I memorized.

That was how i did a when I was in dental school 9 years ago. Fast foward to 2010 and I decided to take the Canadian dental board exam as required for licensure in Canada. Again I order this book since I had given my original to another student 9 years ago and I studied the same way and again I aced another board exam. They also offered other books that are more specific that they make and I got here on Amazon like "what do you know prosthodontics" I found this book very helpful towards the end of my studying. and if used correctly it can be the difference between passing and failing.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Review Book, August 28, 2006
By greek dentist (Milwaukee, WI USA)
This book was key to passing boards!!! I did not use the book to memorize test questions, but help me direct where I needed to focus my studying. I took every test in the book and I recognized repeated questions for all sections, except the dental anatomy and occlusion. Even so, the book was still beneficial because it did help me see where I was weak and needed to put more time in my dental decks. Overall, it was a great guide and great tool that helped me pass part I boards.
