Product Description:

It takes a Herculean effort to get my child to: a) brush his or her teeth b) go to sleep c) take a bath d) eat his or her vegetables. If any (or all) of these apply, continue reading. From the treasure chest of Munro Leaf comes another classic in which the beloved author and illustrator uses his time-proven method of talking to children straight?simply getting them to see it how it is. In Brushing Your Teeth Can Be Fun (originally published in 1943 as Health Can Be Fun), Leaf leaves his audience in no doubt that not only can health be fun, but good sense, as well. This book will help boys and girls understand why they should drink their milk, eat their vegetables, get exercise, go to bed on time, brush their teeth, keep clean, and a dozen other things both big and small that are important to building strong, healthy, and happy bodies. With his trademark stick figure drawings and witty text, Leaf will once again elicit peals of mirthful laughter from his little readers, not to mention some big ones who will find this humorous hygiene handbook an indispensable aid in the all-too-familiar night-time (come to think of it, all the time) war with their children about the merits of keeping good health.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  A best seller for people who don't read, January 08, 2014
By Jena
My daughter picked up this book at our dentist's office and asked me to read it to her. Since we were at the dentist's, it seemed like an appropriate thing to do. I was kind of surprised when the information about teeth and cleaning them didn't even start until page 36. We got every inch of health information from drinking milk to using the toilet once a day but very little about teeth brushing and the enjoyment therein.

I shudder to think there would be a child who was actually enthusiastic about teeth brushing and having the air snuffed out of their balloon to discover that teeth brushing really isn't fun. It is a duty, and that duty doesn't even start until page 36.

If you want an all purpose (outdated) commentary on health in general with no emphasis on fun whatsoever, this is the ultimate book for you and your child. After all, teeth brushing isn't fun, so just suck it up and do it-- like everything else.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Misinformation, February 07, 2013
By bishopsjr
This book is really outdated. The tone bothered me right from the start. Maybe it is intended to be a joke for older people, but as soon as I read "Milk is the best food anyone has ever found" I had to stop. That is just plain WRONG. The parts about going to bed when you are told and being a "whiny 2 year old" are rude. These behaviors are developmentally appropriate and should not be shamed. Returned this.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Helps explain to kids why rules and taking care of yourself is important., March 12, 2012
By Andrew
My kids and I enjoyed this book along with How to Behave and Why and Manners can be Fun. There is some outdated information here- I don't believe that drinking at least 3 glasses of milk a day is necessary for good health. My five year old listens when I read this even though it is a bit of a long read and is teaching him something. My seven year old reads it by himself. I think older kids can get more out of this book than younger children. My two year old daughter gets about half-way through the book before wanting to move on. There is a lot to understand but I find my kids using their manners and remembering the lessons in these books after having read them. Reading the books to my kids even reminds me to take care of myself and use my manners!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  I wanted to love this...., January 14, 2011
By Noelle Mori
I bought this as well as 'How to Behave and Why' for my almost 4 year old. Although I 'get' that this is not meant to be a children's book, I had kind of hoped for a more subtle text so that a child would actually get something out of it. Yes, there is good advice on how to get through life so that people like you and want to be around you, but the delivery is almost admonishing. It's not exactly a 'come on it's bedtime, let's a read a story' kind of book. Saying that, I ordered it knowing that it may be a miss...which it was and which is why I returned both.
