A pretty good read. Not the best, but still worth 4 stars., August 03, 2015

A pretty good book. Better than many other dental books out there. A lot of psychobabble, but that is expected with a coaching, self-help, mentoring, etc. book. Some good ideas in here. Some parts of the book do get a little redundant.

Absolutely Terrible; Meaningless Self-Help Babble, June 14, 2015
By Matthew Windham Hillis

I have no idea what book the other reviewers read, because this book is terrible. It is full of absolutely pointless sloganeering and clichés. His "advice" is nothing but soaring feel-good rhetoric that is utterly devoid of any real content or concrete suggestions. His points are endlessly repetitive--he can take one thought about something--say "passion"-- and spend an entire paragraph filled with sentences beginning "Passion is..." over and over. It's completely pointless.
As if that's not bad enough, half of his "advice" is just finding ways to talk about how awesome his consulting business is, and how it will solve all your problems: self-marketing in disguise. It's nauseating. Maybe he has the interpersonal skills to "wow" an audience while he's speaking live, but this book is all sizzle and no steak.
This book is nothing but feel-good, meaningless self-help psycho-babble. Don't waste your money or your time. I'd give it zero stars if that were possible.

I'm not a dentist, but I learned SO MUCH from this book!!!, June 21, 2014

I do marketing and advertising for small businesses and recently picked up a local dentist as a client. His sales were down, the moral in his office was lousy and you could feel the "dysfunction" in the air. They were spending more time trying to decide what color their new hardwood floor should be than trying to understand why none of their new patients were starting treatment plans. Of course, their excuse was, "the economy's bad and nobody has any money".
I know they don't teach dentists how to run a dental practice in dental school, so I decided to look for a book that might provide some broad, general information and ideas on running a practice. When I saw the title 'Mastering the Business of Practice" I knew I hit the jackpot. I bought the Kindle edition for myself and the paperback version for the Doctor.
This book isn't going to tell you how to change your practice. It's going to show you how to change the way you are being about your practice. In this book you will learn how to own a practice, not how to have a practice own you. You will learn to get the most from your staff and how to communicate with them so they are engaged in the success of the practice. You will learn that it's not about selling a lower price, giving discounts, or taking no-pay insurance - it's about how you are being and relating to your practice, your staff and your patients.
Unlike so many books, this book isn't a sales pitch for Dr. Cooper's consulting practice. It's practical advice that you can put to use on Monday morning to transform your practice into a million dollar machine that inspires you to wake up and love going to work every day.
I wish Marc Cooper would write the same book but not specifically for Dentists. I would give it to every one of my clients and every business owner I know.
(P.S. You can lead a horse to water, but your can't make him drink. As of today, my client hasn't cracked the book open and his practice continues to suffer. I'll update this review after he reads it or closes the office down.)
