Wheels of Light explores the seven chakras, or energy centers, of the body with particular focus on the first chakra, which has to do with our basic life force, our physical bodies, and our sexuality. Drawing on scientific research, Native American culture, the ancient traditions of the Egyptians and Greeks, the philosophies of the Hindus, and the religions of the East, Rosalyn L. Bruyere presents a unique perspective on the value and healing potential of the chakra system.

A resourceful, insightful introduction to the chakras., December 31, 1997
By A Customer
Wheels of Light begins with an introduction to the "mysteries" of the chakras. It reveals the touching story of the Rainbow Warrior who healed and prophesied because he could see the rainbow beyond the rainbow. Color, vibration, and auras are explained in detail. Several chapters unfold the secrets of the chakras in beautiful detail.

I have read this book numerous times and I learn new things every time. If you're looking for a more peaceful life and intrigued by the power of natural healing. Other great books that I would recommend are; Hands of Light & Creative Visualization. Read with an open mind and enjoy!

Absolutely insightful, May 26, 2007
By R. L. King (West Palm Beach, FL United States)
When I was younger, I picked up this book at the library but put it back because of its outdated design cover. I recently saw it again at a bookstore, and decided to buy it, and I do not regret it at all! This book was exactly what I was looking for on the chakras-- it's not too textbook-like, and it's written from a humble, intuitive perspective. I just wish that it were longer! Out of all the chakra books I have read, this one by far has taught me the most on energy, vibrations, auras, etc.

WHEELS OF LIGHT, August 1, 2007
By Dr. Greg (CA, USA)
I was extremely pleased with the content of WHEELS OF LIGHT. I could tell from the start that the author put a lot of thought into every paragraph. Each chakra is historically and metaphysically described. There are helpful exercises for you to do to balance and vitalize the chakras. I especially love the way the author relates chakra "health" to physical and mental health. The illustrations are grand and you'll feel "boned up" on chakras and auras by the time you finish reading this excellent text.

Don't waste your money on secondhand material, September 16, 2010
By Cristo Bowers
Wheels of Light has got to be one of the worst books, i.e., least informative, that I have read on the chakras and chakra system over 20 years of study. It was not helpful in any way. Even her lengthy dissertation on the first chakra, which subsumes nearly half of her book, was largely digressive and unsubstantiated. In fact, I recommend that you save your money and buy the books upon which the author predicates her work. (Nothing here is original.) The author consistently degrades the early Theosophical literature which she continually references and which is far superior in every way imaginable to Wheels of Light, which is nothing more than a condensed reading of others' works.
Again, if you are looking for an accessible yet advanced treatise on the chakras, purchase the book titled The Chakras by Charles Leadbeater. In it, you will find a truly detailed description of the chakras and chakra system. Also, I highly recommend both books by Barbara Brennan, Hands of Light and Light Emerging. There, her diagrams and personal experience as a healer is exemplified by illustrations and personal, detailed descriptions of her observations of the chakras. Finally, as an advanced healer, I can recommend Esoteric Healing by Alice Bailey, whom the author also mentions derisively in her book.
Among these TRULY astounding and intelligent works, you will discover all of the information that you will need for your journey, until you can see the charkas and human energy field for yourself.

Wheels of Light Glows., August 9, 2009
By Author of "The Magic Of D..
I purchased this book many years ago when I first started my healing journey. I just read it again recently. Of course everyone takes away something different from information, however, I feel this book is better for someone that has been studying healing for awhile. I gained much more the second time reading it, because I now have a more fundamental understanding of chakras, initiations, frequencies, cellular interactions etc.
For the intermediate or advanced healer/student this book contains huge information. Barbara Brennan, herself, states, "Rosalyn Bruyere has been one of the most important teachers of hands-on healing in the world for many years." Information included: How to avoid displacing chakras, chakra interaction, electromagnetic radiation and its spectrum, healing bones, cancer, aids, alot of detailed in depth information on chakras (especially the first) and kundalini. There is much to be gained from the history lessons. Parts of this book are written multi-dimensionally. There can be no doubt Ms. Bruyere is a master healer.

THE Book on Chakras, November 2, 2011
By Mama3Boys (Los Angeles, CA)
I first read "Wheels of Light" over 20 years ago. I have not read another book on the subject of Chakras or Energy Medicine that compares. It is well researched, simple to understand without being simplistic and weaves layers and levels of understanding together flawlessly. I reread it often and I never fail to learn something new. I offer you, and "Wheels" my highest recommendation and Rev. Bruyere my deepest thanks.

A delicious meal, well-researched and engaging., November 12, 2009
By Mysticism-afficionado (Philadelphia, PA)
I have always (14 years) made this book a requirement for my apprentices in the 12-month Reiki Master class I teach. Rosalyn's exploration of how different civilizations perceive reality has many points of clarity for us, especially now, with so much on-the-edge tension in the world. This is a well-done overview of the chakra system with detailed discussions of #1 and #2; my only regret is that she went on the road and never wrote more books about the other 5 chakras in more detail. Much more readable and do-able than Anodea Judith's book Wheels of Life (although it is a GREAT resource!).

THe wheels of light - first chakra, August 3, 2009
By Lucky (Boston, MA)
I have left a review before, however as I proceeded my reading, I found I need to give additional comments on this book. Originally I was looking for a book which gives detailed and profound knowledge about chakras, auras in order to have a foundation on my path to spiritual enlightment, the first half of book does perfect job on offering insights with chakras and auras, nevertheless, the second half completely dives into the root/first chakra...
As we all know that the person whose soul sits on heart chakra or higher is spiritually enlighted, one has to take care of soul first in order to reach harmony among soul, mind and body, if we focus on having our body fixed first, it is temporary, the problem will come back again and again...

Phenomenal Book, November 29, 2011
By Deirdre Layne
Rosalyn Bruyere's book Wheels of Light is, in my humble opinion, the most insightful book ever written on the chakra system.
I have owned Wheels of Light for about 20 years and never cease to be amazed at how much new information I pick up when I reread the book (about once every 5 years). I have independently verified many of the book's details about the chakra system in my own energy healing practice over the years. Wheels of Light has been a fantastic resource when I or my patients have questions.
I believe Wheels of Light will remain a classic for many centuries to come and recommend it highly.

THE Definitive Text on the Chakra System, November 2, 2011
By Kathy
Rev. Rosalyn L. Bruyere has produced a masterful work on the chakra system that ties in all of the ancient mystery systems that help feed our understanding of these subtle energy bodies. Her book, "Wheels of Light," is considered to be an essential foundational reference text for many different schools of energy healing. Rev. Bruyere is acknowledged to have served as a teacher to Barbara Brennan and the founder of the Healing Touch movement, and her influence throughout the world of energy healing is held in the highest regard as a result. Those who find the material in her book resonates with them would be well-served to try and study in-person with this amazing healer and teacher. It is remarkable that she continues to pass on to students first-hand her vast and deep trove of knowledge -- a rare opportunity that someone this accomplished continues to teach her own classes directly. This book led me to study with Rev. Bruyere and directed me on a path that has been life-altering. Even after many years of study I continue to turn to her book and find new wisdom in it each time I pick it up.

Simply one of the most important books to read on energy, October 25, 2011
By Elizabeth Chazen (Lincolnshire, Illinois United States)
I have read this book numerous times,, and each time it has given me more insight to energy healing and chakras. Rosalyn Bruyere is one of the most energetically vibrant teachers of our time on energy healing, she exudes the energy of her work! I find that she conveyed as graciously as possible in written form something that is at most truly experiential: ENERGY! As an artist painter I know that you can write all you want about an art,,, its the experience of doing it that makes it real. This book brings that realness and it does exactly what it was intended for you to do.... to go on a search for energy, for healing, for spirituality

Wheels of Light was the first book I read about the chakras. As a person new to learning about energy and the chakras, I found this book easy to read and understand. I especially liked Rosalyn's depth of understanding of modern science and her ability to explain energy and the chakras within this context as well as a spiritual context. I highly recommend it this book to anyone interested in learning more about energy.

3.5 stars: A lot of info, maybe too much info, June 25, 2011
By kavanava
Rosalyn Bruyere has written a wide ranging, cross cultural book on the body chakras packed into a relatively small book. There is information I haven't seen in other books and it goes beyond the usual this chakra is this color and is related to these organs. You will find chakra related information related to subject areas of history, kundalini, science, mythology, diseases, healing, sexuality, karma, prosperity, etc. Having said that, one drawback might be there is too much info in too many areas. If you are just looking for some basic on info on the chakras, what they are, what they do, etc. this book may be more than you want. Also, like most western books the body 7 chakra system is promoted as though it is fact. If you investigate the history of the body 7 chakra system it is a western convention/convenience and systems differ on how many body chakras there are, their exactly location, and which organs they relate to. But the 7 chakra system works fairly well and it helps in teaching. The energy/auric layers off the body isn't explained, but this may add too much complexity to already wide ranging book so perhaps this is just as well.
