Borrowing chakra principles and healing teachings from previous works, Dr. Caroline Myss forms a daily living plan that focuses on making the most of personal energy. Myss questions, chides, and inspires her audience--both audiobook listeners and the production's live studio gathering--to let go of blame, victimhood, and group thinking and take responsibility for their own lives. When she makes rueful fun of her own pre-enlightened state, it's to let her listeners know that they are not alone. Myss backs up her theories with both anecdotal and historical examples, and bolsters the production with a quiet certainty. (Running time: 9 hours, 6 cassettes.) --Kimberly Heinrichs

In university I studied engineering. I like to explore many things but at the end the day, especially when it comes to self help, I'm looking for things that work. These CDs from Caroline Myss are working for me. Here's what I found very unique about Caroline's material: she makes many concepts, such as Chakras, accessible for me. Up to know I've seen them as "could be interesting but seems like new age babble." From what Caroline says in the CDs, that's how she saw all of this stuff too, until some things happened in her life and she ended up with a new point of view. Key point here: she isn't a woo-woo "stars and magic" person. She's blunt and practical. At one point she says something like this "I want to give you the science of Chakras...I like explaining these things like machines, so you see that this is real, not just made up stuff." By bringing this into practical, almost scientific terms, it's accessible to me. On tape 6, some of what she talks about was a bit out there for me, but hey, that's alright. The core of the content is very practical and can be experienced day to day. Caroline has interesting things to say about spirituality and religion as well. She comes off as a very spiritual person, but there didn't seem to be a given religion behind that. Interesting. Several people have commented on Caroline's style. Here's my take. Caroline is blunt and direct. She isn't warm and fuzzy. She *is* funny. She *is* a great speaker. She *is* very bright and good at quickly building to "the point." She isn't nurturing. I'm at a point where I'm really ready to take action, and ready to make some changes. I was taken aback a few times through the CDs, but that's OK. I'm ready to take some emotional bruises in order to move forward. I think it's worth it. I'm tired of finishing interesting self-help books, putting them down, and then finding that nothing in my life is different. I'm seeing lots of changes already from the way that Caroline's CDs are challenging me. I've also seen some comments that Caroline seems overly confident in herself. I can see where that impression may come from. Here's the thing--I don't see her strength and confidence coming out of pride or need for recognition. I think it comes from having a very solid basis in what she says, and also in being very aligned in her work as a teacher. She has important information to get across. Is everything she says 100% right? Who knows? You will get an undiluted point of view on how things work though.

Energy Anatomy, August 26, 2000
By Kathy Blanch (Spokane, Wa USA)

This tape set by Carolyn Myss is the best I have heard. I have read her books, seen her seminars and listened to her other tapes. When I got this set, I listened to it once and then started over. Everytime I listen I learn more. I am a RN/counselor and this has been a favorite with my pts also. I can't tell you how positively it has influenced the people I work with.....It puts you in control of your mind and body and ultimately your spirit and overall health in all these areas. A master piece!

This is my #1 for 2002 and the year is not even half over!, April 30, 2002

For those of you open to new age thoughts and beliefs, this book is a godsend, it contains information that I have been searching for and have not been able to find anywhere else. Go on to the third paragraph for my review. The book was loaned to me by my chiropractor, so if you're skeptical about nontraditional methods of healing, read no further, this review would be a waste of your time, and mine. Do not vote negatively just because alternative healing falls outside your religious beliefs, you are not doing anyone a justice. For those of you that are still reading, this book is a wonderful introduction into the science of energy and healing. Myss goes into the chakras and how certain health issues can stem from specific kinds of stress and/or emotional blockages - it is well worth a read. I'm reviewing the audiocasette version, but her style is graceful enough that the actual book should be just as easy to understand. I look forward to reading more of her works, and plan to send copies of this book to my loved ones. How wonderful would it be if all illnesses could be cured, without the intervention of modern medicine as we know it?

Advanced Energy is better, September 14, 2002
By Nanette Frost (Strongsville, OH United States)
|
|
By happenstance, I listened to the Advanced Energy series before I listened to Energy Anatomy. I found Myss's presentation and material far better on the Advanced series. So much so that I had to force myself to listen all the way through the Energy series. I had to keep reminding myself that I agreed with what she was saying. It made sense to me. I had to focus on the message and not the tone. When I listened to Advanced Energy, I couldn't wait to hear the next tape and was disappointed when I finished the last. I wish I hadn't bought Energy Anatomy but had borrowed it from the library instead. Clearly, I highly recommend Advanced Energy.

I am very familiar with much of Myss' work... having read (or listened to) many of her books and listened to the majority of her audio works.
Energy Anatomy I have found to be invaluable. Previously (some years ago) I watched a video series called "Spiritual Anatomy" by Myss. I recall that similar material was covered as what is found in this Audio series. So if you have those videos then you may want to consider whether you want to purchase this audio series.
I have found, however, that being able to listen to this material over the last few weeks has been a deeply enriching experience. It's much easier to find time to listen to this material than to sit in front of a Television and watch it. Those that are take information in better through a visual medium may wish to check out the videos.
Energy Anatomy explores the mechanics of how each of our energy centers (Chakras) processes and magnetizes corresponding levels of experience with your life. This is something I have been familiar with for many years myself (being very intuitively aware from childhood to now), yet I find that the clear, down-to-earth, and concise way Myss explains this metaphysical science to be invaluable.
In this material Myss explores and explains the dynamics of each chakra (of our Energy Anatomy [EA]) through a number of different symbolic and traditional models. The EA is initially explored as is -- as she sees it. Myss then revisits each part of the EA looking at it through the model of Christian Mysticism by drawing on the wisdom of the seven sacraments. Exploring the Seven Sacraments in this way also reveals a fresh and somewhat deeper level of meaning and significance as to what they mean and how to apply them in daily life.
Myss then revisits each chakra a third time, now looking at them through the symbology and understanding of the Kabbalah Tree Of Life. Talking about the EA from these three different perspectives gave me a number of things: 1. It made my understanding of the chakras and the significance of each one even richer and more complete; 2. It gave me a fresh and more meaningful appreciation of the seven sacraments and Christian Mysticism; 3. It introduced me to a clear and understandable view of the Kabbalah tree of life.
CONCLUSION
I highly recommend this informative material to anyone actively interested in metaphysics, mysticism, Yoga, Meditation, spiritual realities, Shamanism, Occultism, healing, and people with an open mind that are studying or practicing psychology.
Of all of the things I've read and listened to from Myss I consider this to be one of the best. Not because what it is any better in terms of how it's put together, but primarily because it covers such a fundamental level of understanding the basic energy nature of human beings.

A lot of words, as for content ..., June 19, 2005
By John Speer (Seattle, WA United States)
|
|
I've finally come to the conclusion that Caroline Myss has steeped herself in so much philosophy-speak from her "research" that she takes it for granted that others (of average intelligence) should be able to follow along with her rapid-fire delivery along those lines. Here is where I finally decided that that she has become addicted to the audience attention of the lecture "lifestyle": "I don't know that much about the 9th and 10th chakras yet ..."; the words weren't there, but the tone clearly communicated "So, you're going to have to wait a while for me to be able to explain them to you."
She says she is a born teacher, and perhaps she is right. I won't quibble with that self-assessment, as such. It's her tone on audio that is tough. Impassioned some would say - or is it strident? Fervor or frustration? Your call.
Getting back to this production, I found it slow going so skipped the first tape; she wrapped up with chakra #1 at the beginning of the 2nd cassette, so I did not feel I missed much. The rest of the chakras were covered on tapes 2, 3 and 4. I found listening worthwhile for ideas such as not letting your head over-rule your heart's desire, etc. Tape 5 starts in with the archetypes. I'm sorry, but I have problems with that aspect of her "teachings." She, herself, has stated that she is developing even *more* of them beyond the many she's come up with. Are we supposed to go around continuously monitoring our own and others' behavior to slot that into her patterns?
She mentioned in passing that her lectures cost $2500 (twenty five hundred dollars) to attend. She continues to come up with "new" archetypes (presumably with new Archetype Cards one can purchase as well). Think about it.

Incredibly Profound. Myss's best work, October 23, 2002
By Erik J. Bays (Eugene, OR)
|
|
|
I have read a lot of spiritual material, and this one has had a continued and lasting impact on me. It has helped to give me an understanding of my chakras and how I relate to the world that fits completely with other spiritual material. This material made so much sence. I am a healthy person, so Myss's books on healing have never interisted me. This material, however, taught me how to guage my own personal power and understand why I'm weak and why I'm strong. Ever since going through these tapes I have been continually physically aware of my chakras. I can feel when I am working on something that is affecting one of them, and I am aware when I am leaking a significant amount of energy from one (which is pretty much every day, but I'm aware now). Myss has a system where people can become certified as instructors of her material. I took a local weekly class on this series and it really expanded the material, I recommend it if you can find something like that in your area. Also, once you have used this material to understand where you are leaking energy and why, you can use Byron Katie's 'The Work' to help disconnect from what you are tied into.

Energy--the best explanation yet!, July 7, 2000
By Kathy Blanch (Spokane, Wa USA)

I am reviewing the cassette version and it was beyond my expectations. After reading C. Myss's books and seeing her in person, this series of tapes brought it all together. I had an intellectual grasp of energy and the chakra's but now I have a "knowing". I am a counselor and have used some of Carolyn's work in my practice. I now feel, after listening to the tapes, that I will be able to give my pts the information and the tools they need to heal themselves emotionally. physically, and spiritually. Myss is an important voice as we enter this new era and more than likely a paradigm shift in our world-especially healing.

At home therapy, January 30, 2007
By Richard (Austin, Texas)
|
|
If you think that you might benefit from "therapy", listen to this program. A large part of the effort of therapy is getting an individual to open to themselves, to see themselves as they really are, as a precursor to making changes in their life. Caroline Myss' recordings of "Energy Anatomy" and "Advanced Energy Anatomy" open the door to that introspection, giving you a framework in which to see your past life, and present actions. True, you may not agree with everything she says. But I guarantee you will find yourself nodding in agreement over and over again, at the insightful ways she presents the workings of human minds and emotions. And you will find Caroline Myss offering you answers to many of the questions you've asked yourself ("Why do I do this?" "Why did I do that?") over the years. I'm not recommending you forego therapy, if you really need it. Professional therapy can be very valuable. But I am saying that Caroline's recordings are a terrific way of getting in touch with yourself, and seeing yourself clearly (maybe for the first time), regardless of whether you want to pursue professional counseling, or not. And because (as Caroline says) the mind and emotions are prime determinants of the health of the body, this is an excellent series for anyone interested in taking good care of their body, and creating the best health possible for a vibrant and very happy life. "Energy Anatomy" offers a new way of looking at yourself, at others, and at the world around you, and this program may be the best thing you try this year.

Energizing and Enlightening, May 30, 2007
By Emperors Dream
|
|
If you are feeling open and you'd like to "wake-up" today - I HIGHLY recommend this audiobook. You can thank Caroline Myss for her insight into the non-material presence in this life and with shining wisdom, bringing it quickly to the material world. This is a wonderful spiritual and scientific lecture series, not to mention a very exciting journey to listen to (even if you never enact her beliefs into your life). It has helped me profoundly with balancing my energy and I did not have to be a mystic to get it. She is a very good teacher.
This audio book is easily listened to in 9 hours, while driving in rush hour traffic on your way to work, but be forewarned that Caroline Myss is not joking around when she embodies the teacher's archetype. What was once a mundane rush hour drive will turn into a vibrant interaction of the energy paradigm. She will teach you and if you are at all a skeptic like I was (esp. about Chakras and unseen mysteries), thinking that you've got the world materialistically figured out, and your reality beat, then you are in for a sharp and exciting surprise. You may find yourself sliding down the rabbit hole of "Who am I? and "Why am I doing this?" and "What is the purpose of my life?" and "Where am I, now?"
These types of awareness-based questions are implied throughout her tales and experiences with anatomy of our body's energy systems. Thankfully, with insight, clarity and precision, Dr. Myss explains exactly what we are made of and it is very reassuring to know that when we do start to ask these questions of a deeper nature, there are guides like Caroline Myss who are brave enough to teach the stuff.

This tape series is THE definitive Carolyn Myss, June 16, 1997
By A Customer
|
|
I listen to a lot of personal growth tapes. My orientation is to listen for material to apply to my life. I don't like vague theories. I began using Carolyn's ideas immediately and have found that they are changing my life.
A key point she makes is that you don't have to take 20 years to heal from a trauma. You can "call your spirit back" from past painful events and disappointments. This very simple notion, when applied during meditation, can transform your life. Try it. As they say on TV "It really, really works!"

Energy Anatomy: Everything you need to know to turn your life around, September 2, 2005
By The Rev. Dr. Iris Freelander (Long Beach, CA 90815)
|
|
Ten years ago a physicist friend of mine gave me the priceless gift of the six-tape set of Energy Anatomy. I was enraptured, for I quickly discovered that Dr. Caroline Myss is an outstanding teacher, beautiful in mind, body and spirit. She seems to relate to each of her audience in a personally uplifting way, both in person, audio and the written word. After more than 50 years of meditating I found that Caroline gave me vitally new information, always adding to my own prior store of knowledge and techniques. At her lectures she seems to hold each participant enthralled. A consumate story teller she teaches by example, giving clear and graphic examples of others having overcome similar adversity or circumstances.
Her material has been of inestimable value to me in my work as a
minister, pastoral counselor and past life therapist. Having meditated for 60 years and led meditation groups for 40 years I am grateful for the light that Dr. Myss so clearly shines upon my own self discovery and the work that I do.

Worth listening to again and again., July 18, 2000

I first discovered these tapes three years ago. I have listened to them four or five times now. The information is incredible and makes more sense than any other explanation I've heard about how our psychological makeup affects our health. Each time I listen to the tapes, I hear something new. I can chart my own progress in clearing my energy by which parts "speak" to me the most. I also enjoy Caroline's in-your-face attitude. She makes me laugh out loud when she gets all riled up and says things like "so your parents didn't give you the love you NOW think you needed 30 years ago. GET OVER IT!" I think Caroline did more for me than 2 years of therapy, in helping me to release the past and start taking responsibility for what is going on with me now.

Self Help Personal Growth and Responsibilities, September 12, 2005
By audio (Omak, Wa)

I found this series to be beneficial to my personal growth and healing. Caroline went into detail about how she applies her technical formal training with spirituality principals to help the novice like me to view the responsibility of self growth and communion with others. I listen to this series again and again, yet, I learn something new about self each time. This series has and continues to help me. People ask me what I am doing as I seem more positive and the only thing I can say I am doing different is listening and reading to Caroline Myss's books.

Carolyn Myss is brilliant, entertaining, witty, sarcastic, irrational, and high-handed at any given time. She admits that she teaches rather than heals because she isn't good at one on one. But she is a gifted teacher. Listening to the CDs the third time I still gained more information and have since shared them with friends of like mind. If you're drawn to increasing your knowledge of the spiritual journey, this is a great set of CDs to listen to. She offers several interesting theorys, some believable, some not, but still entertaining.

Incredible information!, July 22, 2005
By LV Healer (Las Vegas NV)

This cd set is a must have for bodyworkers, and lay people alike who want more insight into the body, all its different layers, and how it all works together. Bodyworkers who include energywork in their sessions really should get this. There is so much information, it takes more than one time to listen to it in order to obsorb it all. It truly allows you to assist your clients in their healing process. Love it!

Revealing and Comforting, September 12, 1999
By Samuel Lee Oliver
|
|
Carolyn Myss creatively weaves through the inner dynamics of one's beliefs and shows how they express themselves through our body. Truly, we are what we perceive ourselves to be. Carolyn demonstrates how our energetic system/biology reveals the circumstances of our lives. We are accountable souls to all we do, feel, and say. Thanks, Carolyn Myss, for reminding us to humbly take charge of our energy/spirit and use it wisely. -- Samuel Oliver, author of WHAT THE DYING TEACH US: LESSONS ON LIVING.

Good information, horrible delivery, August 31, 2008
By Sadie Thorndike (San Francisco, California)
|
|
While the information put forth in this CD set is very valuable, Myss's delivery is harsh at best and often downright offensive. She has an ego the size of Jupiter and is bombastic, self-righteous and condescending. It's difficult to listen to her much of the time, and she comes across as one of those people you just don't want to be around. It's astounding to me that someone who teaches such valuable material can live through such an unpleasant personality. Hypocrisy also seeps out again and again. While she admonishes others to "unplug from tribal beliefs," her Catholicism is almost palpable. Actually, I can almost see her rapping knuckles at her workshops if you don't fall in line with her way of thinking. She comes across as inconsiderate and obnoxious in several of her own anecdotes, and it is challenging to absorb the material that IS of value from such a prickly messenger.

A Great Roadmap for the Path, March 18, 2009
By Marijo Puleo, PhD (Belmar, NJ)
|
|
I highly recommend both the Energy Anatomy and Advanced Energy Anatomy lecture series. I will provide this same commentary for both series.
In Energy Anatomy, Caroline reviews the seven chakras and describes our development as we progress thru them. This is content that is presented in her book Anatomy of the Spirit. I can see parallels between this content and adult development theory. As a coach this information is helpful context and provides a framework in working with my clients.
In this lecture series, she goes beyond the Anatomy of the Spirit book to discuss practical ways to apply the information she presents, including suggestions on how to think about illness and spiritual crisis.
In Advanced Energy Anatomy, she continues and expands the conversation to help us understand how to be "mystics without monasteries". She also describes the 8th and 9th chakras, which are rarely discussed and are consistent with the I AM teachings. She provides a wonderful transition from our current thinking on religion and spirituality to the traditional works in Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity. Her comments are supported by the work of the scholars who are working on the Nag Hamadi, Dead Sea Scrolls and other lost gospels. She provides broader context for many religious traditions and her interpretations make sense. She has a PhD in Theology from which she draws much of her content, and also integrates her personal experience and stories of others she has worked with as a medical intuitive.
She is feisty and humble, wise, passionate and entertaining. I enjoy her books and I especially enjoy her audio recordings. I hope you enjoy them as well!

Disappointed, August 6, 2010
By D. Hale
|

The author claims to be a medical intuitive. Great. I would like an explanation. How does she perceive and view diseases and energy disturbances in the body that none of the rest of us are able to perceive or see? There is nothing about this in the book. How are negative emotions converted to disease? Again, no explanation. I am waiting for a plausible explanation of the chakras. Why does anyone believe that there are swirling vortexs of energy in the tailbone, throat, crown of head, etc. Why can't everyone perceive them? Again, no explanation.
What the author does is to offer is a long monologue describing her personal spiritual beliefs. There is a long dull vague description of the emotions and developmental tasks associated with each "chakra," which is somehow analogous to the Catholic sacraments and the Jewish tree of life. Huh? I do not understand why this material appeals to anyone. I would like to know how the author came up with the idea that the chakras exist, and how they have anything to do with our emotional state and health. This book seems ridiculous to me.

A superb and rich spiritual stimulant and growth catalyst., January 15, 1999
By Darell Shaffer (Minneapolis, Minnesota)
|
|
Carolyn Myss explores the archetypal boundary between the cosmic energy field and the collective unconscious. She demonstrates a way of seeing that connects those energy/archetype interactions to patterns of physical illness, as well as to patterns of spiritual empowerment or energy drain. No one else comes close to summoning up the scope and intensity of vision that characterize these works. What she says is brilliant, what she implies will be breathtaking as it unfolds throughout the next millennium.

Caroline Myss hits self responsibility right between the chakras. Her revelations regarding the importance of a symbolic point-of-view and self healing is simple, yet profound, and her insights into the Christian sacraments have completely changed my view on the subject. This is essential knowledge. Thanks, Caroline!

Myss is fun to listen to--witty, light-hearted, and well-organized. Whether you're sick, depressed, or ready for spiritual growth, these tapes will clarify what your next steps could be. I have listened to the nine hours of tape at least five times in the last few years, and each time there is fresh wisdom that I wasn't ready to notice before. Her insights somehow grow along with me!

Great teaching on energy and healing, November 24, 2010
By Coach Seattle (Seattle)
|
|
I finished listening to the Energy Anatomy on tape. Caroline Myess did a great job sharing her knowledge of energy anatomy. She said "your spiritual structure is as detailed as physical structure" so she goes into the chakras and describes our personal development from external power to internal power from an energy point of view. She says "Your first challenge in evolving spirituality is to develop a sense of will that allows you to maintain yourself while being with a group of people and not compromising yourself in order to stay with that group"
Energy Anatomy is a wonderful introduction into the science of energy and healing. It helps me continue my healing studies with a better understanding of energy.

Old news, but good information all the same!, December 16, 2011
By Lesley Ann Crossingham (Gold Coast, Australia)
|
|
During the last fifty years ancient wisdoms, hidden knowledge and obscure mysteries, kept secret for millennia by a few, have literally flowed like a river of light out into our world. For the most part, we have benefited enormously from this, but of course, there has to be a "but." I am sure most people will acknowledge that the most popular and well-know adage revered by the "new age" movement is that "we create our own reality." It would be safe to suggest that most spiritual seekers acknowledge this great truth, yet, we also have to acknowledge that we are not doing a very good job of it, are we? This truth which came to liberate us has often become yet another weapon of judgment as we quickly doubly condemn those who are sick or disabled, for not only being ill but also being foolish enough to have "created" it. Surely no one would deliberately choose illness or disease if they understood the principles of love-aligned thought.
This particular issue has formed the backbone of the seminal work of teacher, Caroline Myss, and this pivotal CD set, based on her book, Anatomy of the Spirit. At face-value, the wisdom of understanding our energetic bodies would appear to be obvious and surely fundamental to the creation of healthy lives, healthy communities and a healthy world. Indeed is the primary goal of all thinking people, yet this goal has been illusive despite the copious knowledge offered. Caroline Myss, likewise, believes we stand at the threshold of a new era in medicine and healing because we have begun to look at the body as more than a biological machine.
This is vital information indeed, particularly for the would-be shaman, because most of us are totally unaware of how much the past influences our present experience. We often see and meet people who "lead" with their wounds and seem to take pride in the fact that they are still functioning despite their trauma. Yet, according to Dr Myss it is because of these wounds, which should be seen as opportunities to practice forgiveness, that we habitually continue to unconsciously energise those same patterns. If we truly want to create a new life and a new world, we have to focus on unplugging (forgiving) and re-energising our lives. It is interesting that although Dr Myss does not mention "soul retrieval" or any shamanic practices, that her methods of "unplugging" and pulling energy back from wounds is exactly what the shaman does when he or she retrieves the soul. It seems we have come to a time when we can learn to retrieve our own soul, rather than go to a healer or therapist, and in so doing, become the awakened shaman within.
Whilst it is clear there is nothing inherently "new" in this CD set, there is a lot of very practical information on the energetic body and how we invest our energy. Any serious student of spirituality, or anyone faced with health issues would do well to invest in this particular set of CDs, as they will find the information invaluable. Caroline Myss offers this material with wit, copious anecdotes and examples from her life and from other lives. Perhaps most importantly, she offers practical ways of changing your life by returning your spirit to its true home...the heart. The spirit has an unlimited capacity for self-healing and divine connection, but it does require that you embrace the journey whole-heartedly

Everything is Energy, December 7, 2011
By Author of Quantum Meditations (Indiana)
|
|
Everything of matter made is formed of energy, and everything of energy formed is informed by the flow of awareness. This disc should be included in the medical curriculum. It is that good, and that essential to healing. Ms. Myss makes a thorough essay of her subject, and offers excellent advice on how to take control of your own energy flow, and hence your own health.

This is the most comprehensive and complete work of Carolyn Myss's that I have seen to date. Her knowledge of the human energy field and how it relates to healing is truly remarkable. This compilation discusses The Seven Chakras and how they relate to The Seven Sacraments and The Tree of Life and The Ten Sefirot. Dr.Myss discusses the chakra system indepth and how it can effect the physical body. I believe every person who hears these tapes will learn something new and inspiring about themselves. I highly reccommend this collection.
