5.0 out of 5 stars.  A Must Have for all Associated with Special Ed, February 6, 2010
By dixi (VA)
As with all their other special ed books, Wrightslaw hit another one out of the park. Their books are the definitive collection for special ed parents, teachers and administrators. Parents, want to know you and your child's rights?~ try the advocacy book. Want to know the educational law concerning special ed? They have a book for it. Want to understand No Child Left Behind or IDEA? Well, that's there too. As lawyers and special ed advocates, these folks definitely know their stuff. As both a special ed teacher and a special ed mom, I appreciate the user friendly way their products are laid out, clearly and concisely, and hands-on knowledge that you can put directly to practical use. I would also recommend that you visit their website and check out the webinars cds they have for sale-very awesome information dissimination.Wrightslaw: Special Education Law, 2nd EditionWrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy: The Special Education Survival GuideWrightslaw: Special Education LawWrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy - The Special Education Survival GuideWrightslaw: No Child Left BehindWrightslaw: IDEA 2004

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quick Q&A, January 9, 2010
By mustang
Do you need a quick Q&A with dealing with IEPs? This is wonderful on how easy the book is layed out & how easy it is to find an answer to your question. Now if you want the in-depth then you need the other Wrightslaw books too. With "All About IEPs" they have wonderful reference guide as well. Having examples in the book help give context to the Q&A as well. Buy it & share with other families that have kids on IEPs!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Essential tool for parent Advocates, September 14, 2010
By David Cockrell (West Columbia South Carolina)
Kids don't come with an instruction manual.

Thanks to Wrightslaw, the IEP process has a great reference manual that offers answers to numerous questions that arise during the creation of meaningful IEPs.

There are two books that every parent-advocate should have in their IEP bag. From Emotion to Advocacy and All about IEPs.

From Emotion to Advocacy offers meaningful strategies that paid huge dividends once we applied them in our effort to advocate for our son's educational needs. My son ultimately graduated high school with honors and is currently attending college.

All about IEPs is written in a simple layout that is easy to navigate for answers to very specific IEP questions.

Good luck in your child's success story journey

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fast introduction but useful to the experienced, February 3, 2010
By goes_m (San Jose, California United States)
In a Q & A format the book covers many questions about IEPs and the IEP process. This format and the writing style make it easy to read, and accessible to the beginning parent/advocate. What is useful to the experienced parent/advocate is that the answers are footnoted so that when you need to cite an authority, there is something easily available. I have been going to IEP meetings for about 10 kid-years and I found things that were new in the book.

I hope that you never need this book, but if you have a child with an IEP, or might have one this would be a good book to start with. A more experienced might want it to use to brush up on the nuances of IEPs

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A core and indispensable reference for every school and community library, March 11, 2010
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
An IEP is an Interdiscipline Education Plan. IEPs are mandated by law for children with special education needs from preschool through high school. Knowledgeable parental involvement is critically important to insure the success of IEP-based curriculums which, semester by semester, year-by-year should be examined, adapted and adjusted to a child's evolving educational needs. That's why "Wrightslaw: All About IEPs", the collaborative work of Peter W. D. Wright, Pamela Darr Wright, and Sandra Webb O'Connor is so highly recommended as a comprehensive, 'parent friendly', single-volume, 166-page compendium of answers to questions about IEPs explaining every aspect and factor of how they are composed, organized, implemented, and reviewed. Of special note is the coverage addressing parental rights and the legal requirements of schools and school districts. Informed and informative, "Wrightslaw: All About IEPs" should be considered a core and indispensable reference for every school and community library, as well as supplemental reading for all parents with children with special education needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Must Have-Perfect Resource, August 29, 2010
By BMB
All About IEP's provides a Q & A format that is easy to read and easy to use. A perfect resource for anyone involved in Special Education; parent, professional, educator, advocate or attorney. This book provides answers to questions the reader may have about IEP's. Not only are answers to the questions provided, but footnotes directing the reader to the law itself are included. Another great resource created to help those involved in IEP's better understand the process and one's rights.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A must have!, August 26, 2010
By Son has ASD
This book is a must have for every parent who is involved in the special education system. Knowing how to write an effective IEP is the foundation for getting services.

I like the Q&A format. It makes it easy to find the information I need, when I need it. The size is right for taking to meetings. I have had teachers ask to look at my book, then say they were going to get one for themselves!

As a lawyer, this was helpful, but would think that it would be even better for a parent. Well-written and concise.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great guide to prepare someone for an IEP, August 22, 2011
By laurie4taz (CALIFORNIA)
This book is very helpful for someone new to the IEP process and even those who have experienced it a few times. I found it helpful as a professional and shared it with some parents to help prepare them for their IEP meetings coming up. This guide breaks down the IEP process and helps prepare someone with steps to take before the meeting, during the meeting, and follow up from the meeting. A must have if you are a member of the IEP team (which does include the parents).

This was very helpful for us to prepare for what was a challenging IEP. The school and classroom had a lot of issues.
