1.0 out of 5 stars.  useless, December 27, 2007

This product is totally useless unless your skis are over 10yrs old. The rubber straps are about 2" short for going over any shaped skis. I wrote to Thule about the problem and their response was a simple "Thank You"

I have shaped skiis and this rack works great with my Hummer. The only bad deal is not locking.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple, durable, versatile, January 20, 2011
By Kurt D. Meyer (Wisconsin, USA)
Hard to find in stores, I think because it costs so much less than the hinged scissor-style carriers and other higher-tech solutions. Although for what you get, this item is not cheap either. I have had a set of these for about 20 years, use them every winter, and they have held up fine. Recently bought another set of these carriers for a second car. No sign of failure, cracking, or stiffening from the 20-year old rubber toggles. I do keep the toggles in a bag in the car door cubby except when they are in use, I think a lot of sunlight might not be best for them. These can also be used as side stops for hauling lumber, canoes, or other cargo on the roof rack. Also I'm sure these offer less wind resistance than a scissors-style carrier. Easy to put on, take off, or move.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  affordable ski rack, March 26, 2010
By Robert F. McDonald
I was concerned at first. I purchased this item before looking at reviews. One comment led me to believe that shaped skis would not fit because the rubber ties were too short. Happily, I discovered that it installs in about 3 minutes. I do have a standard Thule rack so it fit perfect. And the rubber ties stretch just the right amount to hold my skis. One day I'll upgrade to a rack that allows me to leave my skis unguarded, for now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
