About Thule
To say that Thule?s beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance.

By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market.

The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Bars great; picture of product slightly misleading, August 15, 2008
By Eric J. DELONG (Whitehorse, Yukon Canada)
This is a pretty straightforward purchase: two Thule-brand bars of dimension 1.25" x 0.75" -- exactly what I needed to replace my old (ancient!) Terzo-brand bars that finally rusted out and gave way. Only 3 stars are awarded as I found the picture misleading: the end caps are NOT included, I'll have to buy these separately now. Had I known (or read the written description which omits mention of the caps) I would have sprung the extra $5 to get the caps included in my free shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Strong & Durable, June 18, 2010
By dccanfield (Syracuse, NY, United States)
I've had a Thule rack for 20 years with the same bars.
Ski racks, kayak racks, even just the bars to carry oversized items - they never bent.
Durable rubber coating.
I just purchased another rack for another car - I highly recommend Thule.
Note - order the end caps - exposed steel on the ends otherwise - and, contrary to the photo, they are not included.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Work great, but attachments can damage skin and end caps are NOT included, November 13, 2009
By Just a guy (Westchester, NY)
These bars work really well, but there are two things to know:

1) the end caps are pictured, but are NOT included with these. The end caps come with the foot pack or can be purchased separately

2) when you attach things like Thule bike racks or ski attachments, the plastic skin can become cut by tightening the attachments to the bar. This can lead to rust and failure over the very long term. They should have used a tiny bit tougher plastic skin.

Be sure to use the end caps or they will rust from the inside out.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Shipping Weight, May 2, 2011
By Mary Lawler
Thule products are great, but. Check the shipping weight on this item. It is listed as 44.2 lbs. I know these bars don't weigh that much and the higher weight will affect the shipping cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Roof Rack System, October 12, 2010
By RayT
I got this for my Dodge Durango, and we use it all the time. I also got a Thule Cargo carrier, and we use it to carry everythign from skis to camping equipment. Only my old 200 cm skis do not fit.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Thule is over priced junk, July 5, 2009
By S. works (Baltimore, MD United States)
I bought the whole Thule kit. The load bars are not that strong and the kit itself is very poorly designed and way over priced. Cheap flat hooks and a cheap carrier will work just as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Misleading but..., August 14, 2011
By Lou
You only get the crossbars not the attachments, However if you look at the picture they faded out everything else so it kind of makes sense.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Load em up!, July 18, 2008
By Basem Hassan
Good crossbars for the roof system. I could have gone a little longer on the bars but there's enough gap on the outside to fit a bike carrier.
