Works Great, March 15, 2007

This Yakima roof rack system works great and I highly recommend it. I bought one for my Mazda 3 and have used it, along with a Yakima roof rack for 2 cross country ski trips (I live a Florida, skiing is far away). The rack hasn't shifted an inch and was relatively easy to install. Yakima has a product guide on their site to make sure you order the right pieces for your model car.

Simple to use pretty easy to install, January 16, 2009

It took a little time trying to get the lock into the slot correctly but once I did, it works like a champ. I like that they give you 3 keys and key sign-up form if you ever lose them. Good product. Would recommend.

Didn't stop a rack thief., June 16, 2011

I had Q-Towers and Q-Clips on a 2010 Prius, and installed the SKS lock cores to make sure nobody stole them.
Now I have a car with dents and scratches all over the roof, because they used a crowbar and stole them regardless.
Lesson learned. Get permament racks, like the Landing Pad series, if you live in a big city. Or take your racks off when not in use, because these so-called "locks" aren't gonna do jack shoot to keep your racks on your car if somebody really, really wants to take them.
Sad face. Teardrop.

Good locks, October 3, 2009

The Yakima SKS Locks really should come with the racks. Making them à la carte really chaps. But they do work well as intended, keeping the bike from being walked away with.

Product does it's job, May 8, 2012

You really don't have much choices when it comes to parts or locks. I got this to give thiefs a little deterrent for during day time. I go snowboarding so I use the locks and I don't think anyone is going to go that far during day light when there's people walking by to pry the roof rack off your car. During night or otherwise not in use I remove the rack and leave it at home. So I'd say the locks are good at keeping you that much more at ease. On top of it, it's also another reassurance that your roof rack stays bolted down to your roof and doesn't come loose.

Expensive, April 23, 2010

These locks are expensive for what they are, but, if they prevent my rack from being stolen just once, they have paid for themselves.
The product is as advertised.

Works Great!!!, July 29, 2011

Bought these for the Yakima Forklift Bike Rack that I purchased for my roof. Instructions were a little lacking, but they are simple and don't really require too much to install. I have been using them a ton since I purchased them and they work great! I feel much more secure now when my bike is on my car knowing that it is locked up.

I recently purchased two set of BowDown kayak Rack so I needed this lock as well. Very easy to install, must have product if you invested some money for your rack. I thought at first the price is bit expensive but for your piece of mind it's worth it.

3 out 4 ain't bad?, May 15, 2010
By Tom L (Omaha)

Well, 3 of the cores I got worked as intended, and for that I am thankful. The 4th one did not fit properly and wouldn't lock up. I ended up just capping off the 4th one, but I'm still glad I bought these, b/c as long as 3 of them are good, it would be very difficult for someone to steal my crossbars. (Still would've been nice to get 4 good ones, though. *sigh*)

Simple installation and cheap upgrade to improve the security of expensive Yakima roof components. Just doesn't make sense to not get these locks.

Trust me, having one key for a set of 8 lock cores is helpful. I use this on my Q-towers, Raptor bike racks, and Big Stack kayak rack.

Very useful for Yakima Roof Rack owners, April 3, 2010
By C. Twining (Los Angeles, CA)

These core sets are incredibly useful for Yakima Roof Rack owners. They allow you to use one key for all your components. They are always easy to install and uninstall in the various Yakima components. I have one key that is the same for my four Yakima Q towers, my cargo box, snowboard rack, and bike rack.
I would say buy atleast an 8 pack if you buy a Yakima towers rack. You need 4 right off the bat for the rack towers, and then you want several to be able to lock up snowboards or skis, bikes, and cargo box etc.
Definitely recommend this to anyone buying a Yakima rack.

It's a must have when owning a car roof rack. When you mount your $2000+ bike on your roof and after spending $300+ on the roof rack alone. The last thing you need is someone stealing all of it, These locks just make it "that" much more difficult for a theif

They are what they claim to be, but don't expect perfect security, April 5, 2012
By Nathan Arthur (Cleveland, OH)

These locks are easy to use, reasonably effective, and well-packaged. But I'm a bit of a hobbyist at lock picking and it's clear that these locks aren't high-security. They'll be fine for deterring anyone who lacks lock-picking skills and lacks a big crowbar, but they aren't going to prevent a determined thief. With that said, I'm not storing highly-valuable stuff in my roof box, so I don't worry about it - these locks do what I want them to do, which is make it impossible for the average Joe to walk off with my stuff.

I bought my first Yakima roof rack late last fall and after installing it I had no idea how easy it was to pop the control towers on and off! The SKS Lock cores is the perfect solution!

ok but pricey, May 16, 2012
By CG (California)

I bought these a month ago along with two "frontloader" racks. As others have said these are good for keeping would be thieves honest as they lock the knob that loosens the rack to the crossbars (if someone really wants to steal your bike they will rip the whole thing out, and damage your car). Overall I'm happy with them, two comments though. One they seem a bit pricey to me for what they're intended for. Two, when installing these I struggled for about half an hour until I realized that yakima had sent the wrong keys! This is probably rare but when you get them check that the A# etched on the lock matches the one on the keys. I ended up calling Yakima and their customer service was great. They apologized and mailed the right set within a couple of days.
