"Power Band" Technology allows distinct resistance level changes without reaching to a lever on the unit. Resistance level varies automatically based on cadence and wheel speed directly by using bike's own gears. Cooling mechanism increases life of resistance unit (patent pending). Power varies from less than 209 watts to over 725 watts (at 22.5 mph). Ideal for hitting and maintaining specific heart rate targets. Patented design gives quiet ride.
The CycleOps Fluid 2 Trainer is a great way to keep your legs in tip-top condition during the off season. While many cyclists dread the indoor training season, ensuring proper bike set up will make any workout more comfortable and enjoyable.

This trainer features a new larger flywheel with twice the inertia for an improved, road-like feel. The power-band technology offers the widest resistance range--from easy spins to lung-burning climbs--without ever touching the unit. The infinite resistance curve ensures increased wattage as you increase speed for realistic statistical analysis at the end of your ride. The Fluid 2 is surprisingly quiet, and the self-cooling mechanisms--including a patented fan design--keep the unit performing better, longer. Includes a training DVD to help keep you motivated during your indoor exercise.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  So quiet, I can hear my bike chain rolling louder than the trainer. The best way to get nowhere fast!, March 30, 2010
By John T. (Astoria, Queens, New York City)
It's silent except for the sound of your tire rolling over it, and completely stable. There's really no need to buy the next more expensive one. I haven't felt the need for a mat. And the resistance truly is road like except without the bumps and traffic lights. It's a constant effort though, so you will get more of a work out in 45 minutes on the trainer than you would in double that time riding on the road.

You will want to accessorize however for a few reasons:

First of all, riding a trainer is the most boring thing ever. At the very least you will want to be listening to music, and ideally you will want to set up a TV to watch while you're putting in your time getting nowhere fast.

If you don't have water bottles and cages on your bike, this is the time to get them, and also a good way to practice drinking from them while riding.

You will sweat buckets, and don't want to soak your bike and the floor with it because sweat is highly corrosive in addition to being stinky, so in addition to the roughly $300 you will pay for this trainer you might as well spring for the the "Bike Thong" which Amazon also sells (with Free Super Saver Shipping) for about $22 (cheaper than CycleOps sells it for, and they don't give you free shipping). The bike thong will protect your bike from all that corrosive sweat and it comes with a handy pocket organizer to hold your TV remote control, iPod, Clif Bars or whatever you might want handy. Trust me, attempting to cover your bike with a towel wont work nearly as well either for the bike or you as you try to keep it in place.

You should also get a fan to blow air on you as you ride your trainer.

As for a climbing block to raise your front wheel for another twenty-something dollars, I've been using an old sandle and that has worked just fine. The first few times riding with the sandle under the front wheel I keep turning involuntarily, but got used to it. Honestly, I feel the climbing block is a waste of money, and that for the price of the trainer it should have been included.

This trainer does come with a DVD, but I haven't watched it yet because I don't imagine the most beneficial and boring task of riding a trainer every day is going to be made more beneficial or interesting by having someone tell me what to do. Instead, I recommend a DVD of Breaking Away or Top Gun--so you feel like you're flying.

Last point: if you're really into cycling rather than simply doing this as exercise, the bike trainer will help your technique. Any amount of wiggling around, or most any bad cycling habit, it soon eliminated after being amplified by your time on the trainer. You will also hear your bike better, and notice all those squeeks and strange clicks that you couldn't hear while riding for real (personally I feel a bike should purr).

Love it. Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  You can stop looking !!, October 25, 2007
By Christopher Scheirer (Oklahoma)
Ok... So I have been looking for over 2 weeks and contemplating whether or not to get this trainer or a less expensive one. Well, I figured from the reviews from the cheaper ones that the MAG is not that resistant and WIND is way to loud. Plus I read several reviews of those models that parts break. So, this is why I picked this model... Great reviews, no defects, quiet and resistant. My take on it? Excellent product and worth the extra cash. I am nothing like a pro but I do take 2-3 rides a week for about 25-45 miles each time. While the cooling temperature, the high winds and the worst drivers in the world sometimes it's nice to play it safe and ride indoors. So the product: Easy to set-up (less than 5 minutes), very common sense to hook your bike to it, quiet, very sturdy, great resistance. Today was my first ride on the trainer and a great work out. I rode for over an hour and got my heart rate up to 174 and still had two gears left.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Trainer, October 2, 2005
By HK (Indianapolis)
This Trainer is great. Relatively easy set up. Tremendous customer support when you call about anything that is unclear. The instructions are a bit weak for setting it up (hence the call to customer support). Once you get it set up it is wonderful. A truly tough workout, the free Chris Carmichael DVD helps you through your first workout and gives you ideas for setting up other workouts on your own. You need to get the riser block for the front wheel or it does not feel right. During my first 2 workouts on it I easily exceeded the Heart Rates I was getting in an organized Spinning Class. Feels rock solid.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Great while it lasted, November 16, 2008
By boutros (ILLINOIS)
So my fluid trainer is a couple of years old now. For the first couple of "off-seasons", I really enjoyed it. But it slowly grew noisier. Finally, just a couple of days ago, I burned out the chrome cylinder that the rear wheel rides on. Come to find out, that I know of one other person that had this identical problem! Like I said, mine is a couple of years old (so was my friend's) so maybe the problem has been identified. Another friend has one that is less than a year old but he's gonna sell it to me cause he never uses it...hopefully it lasts longer than mine did! For the time that it worked, my trainer was really great...just expect more that a couple years from a trainer that cost me $300.
Good luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cycleops Fluid 2, August 13, 2007
By Felipe Castro Barquero
The Fluid 2 trainer is a good option if you are unable to hit the road, but definitely is not the same. Eventhough it has a great feel and its pretty quiet, the resistance is great I really like it, if you are going to ride outside and also use the trainer I strongly recommend to have another tire, because the rear tire is going to wear easily, but I think this is the best trainer you can get out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I like my CycleOps Fluid 2, February 12, 2007
By R. Soucy (Cape Cod, MA USA)
I have owned this trainer for a month now. I ride 4-6 days a week. I am impressed with the product quality - it seems well built. It was very easy to set up - took me all of about 5 minutes and I did not need to read the instructions. I did not even have any leftover parts.

This is my first trainer so I do not have anything to compare it to, but I am amazed by the feel of the ride on this trainer. It is very sturdy and the workout is more realistic than I expected from a trainer. I have had no mechanical problems to date. I am extremely happy with the CycleOps Fluid 2

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quiet Trainer, January 9, 2007
By S. Reeb (Portland, OR)
I hate being on the bike trainer (would much rather be outside) but being on the CycleOps is not too bad. I am able to be in the same room with my kids while they are watching TV and I don't disturb them with my spinning. It's a great product for indoor training. Very easy to set up as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The CTS timetrial DVD free is a nice addition, January 11, 2007
By rhooper@umich.edu (Czech Republic)
Easy to assemble, and adjust for the bike wheel. Provides easilly adjustable resistance on the rolling wheel, and once going provides a nice steady rolling resistance. The CTS Time trial DVD in the box was a surprise, so I popped it in the player and tried my first ride. Having never done one of these spinning sessions before it was a lot of fun to get started, and a great work-out! Winter biking solved.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great indoor trainer, April 25, 2008
By R. Southern (San Jose, CA. USA)
I used to do a lot of road riding 20 years ago, so now I'm not really "in shape" for returning to road riding. I got this trainer when I bought a new road bike since I used to use an old fan based trainer, the fan was very noisy! I didn't like the idea of the mag trainer having a resistance selector via cable or having to get off the bike to adjust. The fluid trainers adjust resistance based on how fast the rear wheel spins... faster spin, more resistance... this makes it perfect for the training videos that are available... they say you should shift up or down and the resistance will then be easier or harder. Actually, most of the training videos I've seen use fluid based trainers (either cycelops or kinetic) anyway.

I do my exercise at night, usually when my family has gone to sleep. I wouldn't call the trainer very quite, but it's certainly not loud. I can be downstairs and the family asleep upstairs and it doesn't disturb them... even with the bedroom right above where I'm riding. I don't need to turn the TV volume up much to hear the audio.

This is a well build and sturdy trainer. It's not light, most of the weight is in the fluid and flywheel assembly, but the tube frame is very strong and looks well designed. It was very easy to assemble, it took about 5 minutes to figure out and put together. The hardest part was setting how much pressure to apply with the metal roller to the tire so it wouldn't slip when I sprinted and wasn't pressing too hard to cause the tire to heat up/wear faster.

I've done about 100 miles in the past week on it (got it last Sat!) and am looking forward to more.

BTW, it also works with mountain bikes, but the knobby tires are a lot louder than the slicks on my road bike, but I didn't buy it with plans to use my mountain bike since the gearing is so much lower for hill climbing, I don't think the resistance from the fluid would be enough for a hard workout since it wouldn't be turning as fast as a higher geared road bike (53:12 on the road bike verses 44:11 on the MTB)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy, March 19, 2007

It was surprzingly easy to take the bike on and off the trainer. The resistance seems to get greater as the resistance unit heats up. I find it best for high cadence workouts. Overall, this is a very good trainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Everything I expected, February 13, 2007
By Brian David Housand
I have tried a couple of trainers, and they were nothing like the Cycleops. The feel is very much like riding on the road. The set-up was easy, and I use the trainer 4 to 5 times a week, without dreading it. I would highly recommend this item to anyone who wants a great off-season workout.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice trainer, but be aware if you have a 29er., April 22, 2010
By Mr. Toukko (Phoenix)
I bought the trainer for a few reasons. The first is that Phoenix drivers don't see bicycles and kill a rider 6 times a month. The second is that since my vision has declined enough that I feel even more in danger riding in town, I should best train at home. Everything about the trainer is fantastic with one exception. Fitting a 29" mountain bike tire on it is impossible if you have stubs on the tread. It simply won't fit. I read that these size tires should fit and was a bit irritated when they didn't. Only after additional research, I discovered that Slicks will/should fit on the trainer. Slicks on the bike will cut down on a lot of the noise too and save your good tires. I would imagine this trainer is not designed for mountain bikes either, but rather for street or racing bikes that are designed with smaller and narrower wheels. Fortunately, my roommate has a regular 26" bike and is going too switch out his bike's tires for slicks. The reason I give this product a 4 out of 5 is because the description should have been clearer on what size tires should be used, otherwise I'd give it a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Now I can Bike all winter, November 9, 2007
By Tricia A (Tennessee)
I received my Cycle Ops Fluid Trainer a couple of weeks ago and I am extremely happy with it. I have set it up in my office on hard wood floor with the mat and block that I bought seperately and it is extremely quiet. I can ride and watch TV without having to turn it up beyond normal. My office is on the 2nd floor of our house and my wife says she can hear me riding but it is not loud. I feel that I get a good workout and you can adjust the tension to your liking. I am really happy and look forward to using it all winter to get ready for the next Triathlon season.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love this trainer, May 9, 2010
By G. Berger (Bellerose, NY USA)
I've had this trainer for about four years now. I used to have a wind trainer, and this trainer is much quieter (but I still have to turn the volume up on the TV - it's not totally quiet). It also provides a higher level of resistance that increases in a realistic fashion the faster I go. Another plus is that the fluid takes a few minutes to heat up before the resistance kicks in, which provides a warm-up period that is just about right. Overall I'm very pleased with it and have had no problems. It's great for keeping you in condition over the winter, or if the weather is not cooperating.
One warning - if you don't have any distraction you will die of boredom. Miles creep by after a certain point. While 30 or 40 miles may go by quickly on the road, 10 miles on the trainer is excruciating - none of the rush that comes with flying down the road, no racing along with your buddies, no conversation, none of the small breaks that you get while drafting, coasting, or going downhill. You will get a great workout but time will drag. A TV is nice and a workout video really helps (and gives you the benefit of a structured workout).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  works well, April 4, 2007
By dagmar (West Hollywood, CA United States)
Solid construction; fairly easy to assemble. Feels sturdy and safe when in use. It's a bit louder than I'd like because I use the thing on my balcony, but the resistance provided by the mechanism is realistic (feels like riding on the street) and it's appropriate for a decent workout.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice, quiet, sturdy trainer, February 9, 2008
By CD (Japan)
This trainer gets it right. It is easy to set up and take down so it takes up little space when not in use. It is stable when set up and there is little noise made by the resistance unit, which is a nice feature if you live in an apartment. Since my home has hardwood floors, I put a rubberized mat under the trainer to dampen the vibration through the floor, but with the mat, there is no vibration sound at all. The resistance unit works well with little or no slippage and it has a very natural feel to it. I've tried a couple different types of trainers but this one is the best of the lot. So far no complaints and I've had it over a year and logged perhaps a thousand miles on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Indoor cycling aid, December 12, 2007
By Anthony R. Ellis, M.D. (Michigan, USA)
I purchased this unit from another online retailer and it was delivered in about three days. Setup was fairly easy, but my bike has "nuts" on the back wheel and the included quick release skewer was not usable due to this. The "nuts" did fit into the unit which took about 15 minutes to set up. I had to check the FAQ on Cycle Ops website to check into the use of the trainer with a bike that did not have a quick release rear wheel hub as the instructions are sparse.

I have nothing to compare this unit to, having never had a road bike or a trainer until recently. I purchased both to enter my first triathlon next summer. I can get a good workout with this device and will try the included workout DVD, which seems to be a valuable add-on. The bulk of the noise I hear when using the unit comes from my bike, not the unit, so I would say it is quiet, but you will have to turn the TV up.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cycleops Fluid 2, January 6, 2008
By Steve (Othello WA, USA)
This is a really good indoor trainer. That being said this is my first indoor trainer and I bought it based on the very few reviews that I could find on the net. I like this one it is small and light and pretty easy to setup. it works great and I have been getting all the resistance I have wanted out of it. Unlike some of the reviews that I have seen, I have not had any oil leaking problems but then I have only had it for two months. My only dislikes of the trainer are that it is louder than I expected, I try to watch sportcenter when I am on it and have to turn the TV up louder than my neighbors like. Second it is a little loose where it connects to the bike and can get a little wobbly when you really get going, but that could just be my bike. All in all I would recomend this trainer to anyone who is looking for an indoor trainer, no matter what your experience level.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  First impressions very good, December 16, 2010
By bob
I've been looking at indoor trainers for a little while. I live in Florida and my wife and I generally do 50 to 60 mile rides on the weekend at about a 17-18 mph pace. I try to get out early in the morning or at night and do about an hour of riding in the evening twice a week. That said, there are times I'd just assume ride a stationary bike indoors, especially in rainy and cold weather.
I've done extensive research on trainers (In other words I looked at a couple of trainers in stores, read a bit on the internet, then took a stab at what seemed best on Amazon because I know I can easily return it if it stinks). I ordered my Fluid 2 trainer on Tuesday and got it Wednesday (the training block also came on time, but the mat did not. Boo UPS).
From out of the box to sweating bullets on my bike took about 45 minutes. There are lots of comments about the poorly written instructions in many reviews and indeed the instructions are not very good. But you can find plenty of videos on line on how to set up and attach your bike (put CycleOps Fluid 2 on YouTube or check the CycleOps site).
Minimal assembly is required. CycleOps appears to build a very well designed and well build product. Fitting my bike to the trainer took about 10 minutes. I spent a little while just pedaling lightly and decided this was also a good opportunity to do some seat adjustments.
All that accomplished, I turned the TV to the Food Channel and spent the next hour watching Diners, Drive inns and Dives (my motivation for working out). With cool down, my first ride was just under an hour. I had my Garmin Forerunner GPS/HRM on and recorded about an 800 calorie burn. It was nice to have cadence and speed available as well as heart rate (the speed came from the back up magnetic pick-up sensor.
At first, the resistance seemed pretty light even in the highest gear. After a little warm up I went down about mid range and kept up an 80 to 90 RPM cadence. Then I moved the gears up and started getting my heart rate up. The bike seemed pretty stable and trainer was quiet. I could listen to the TV at minimal volume. As I got more comfortable pedaling I cranked up the gears and stood up. Now that seemingly "light" resistance was quite substantial and my heart rate got up there. At that point I noticed the bike was wobbling a fair amount with my pedaling. I'm not a very smooth rider so this wasn't surprising. I kept looking back at the mount trying to see if I was on the verge of tumbling onto the floor, but everything seemed secure. I finished my ride and did a 5 minute cooldown. The experience was pretty similar to a spin bike as far as I could tell except it seemed smoother and more "road like" than the resistance based spin bikes I've ridden before. There was a nice puddle of sweat to sop up when I was done.
Bottom line:
Pros:
Trainer is well built
Assembly is easy
Riding experience is good
Cons:
Seems a bit pricey at $300 and while not required I think you would do well to buy the front wheel block for stability and to get the bike level
Instructions are poor (a nit)
CycleOps videos comment (and others have mentioned in reviews), that this will wear your tire out quickly. I don't have a feel for that yet. Some people have "trainer wheels" with a thicker material tire just for use on the trainer (another $100?)
So I would recommend this trainer based on my first impressions. If my experience changes any as I get more experience with it I'll update this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  "WITH QUALITY, YOU ONLY PAY ONCE", February 20, 2010
By countrysprout (Southern Illinois)
Both master distance runners, we are fair weather cyclists. However, the buzz from indoor Cyclefit classes has always interested us in getting a trainer for home use. We kept putting it off because we were not convinced a trainer could replicate the workout we got on our fitness bikes. Two weeks ago, research led me to order the CycleOps Fluid Trainer from another vendor (who threw in a training video). A day later, I had a a close encounter with a crack in the sidewalk during an eight miler. Two days into a RICE regimen to heal a sprained tendon, this arrived and my sweet husband put it together in no time at all. His bike was way too tall for me, so we put my Softride up - perfect - quiet - and my leg loved the therapy.

However, we quickly discovered the front wheel needed support so we rigged up two bricks which was okay for the first ride, but not great, so good old Amazon Prime had the stackable climbing block here only two days later. The real rides Race day DVD training was terrific to get started. Not a mass start rider, it was fun to follow along with the racers and certainly a great workout. The climbing block is essential - it allows out of the seat, big gear hill climbing, and offers a degree of stability at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a high end indoor cycle.

Only one week and four good rides later, I am back running on the roads, withOUT pain, and fired up to continue the "road regimen" of trainer cycling until the warmer temps arrive. Cycle Ops ROCKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great cycling trainer, April 28, 2010
By Bruce W. Wilkinson (Vancouver, WA USA)
This trainer was easy to set up. Took less than 5 minutes. I didn't have to follow the instructions because a coworker gave me some pointers and then it was obvious. The trainer works really great. I have used it for several months now to cross-train for an upcoming marathon. I have a mountain bike with road tires and the gearing on the bike is low so I am near the top gears when I train. The resistance is adequate for my current level of training but I would think that a Lance Armstrong type would either need higher gearing or more resistance to create a challenge in a harder workout. The only other issue that I have is there is no way of determining the energy input to the trainer which makes estimating the workout pure guesswork. This seems like a simple feature to add--either directly to the trainer or as an add-on accessory. Since it is fluid resistant, I would think the energy absorbed is a non-linear function of wheel velocity. In summary, this trainer is a no-frills, utilitarian work-horse that is sturdy, consistant, and (so far) reliable. The one accessory I would add is an accurate way of measuring the energy input to the unit. Even a table that translates wheel speed to watts or calories would be useful (assuming that this is the same as on a level road is likely not accurate).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very quiet. Does the job very well., February 10, 2011
By Kathy (Washington DC)
Pros: Very quiet, provides smooth resistance. Very stable. I use it in the living room which has wall-to-wall carpeting. Does not move around when in use and neighbors downstairs can't hear it. I do use an old towel under the bike to catch any mucky muck that might come off the chain or back wheel when in use. Overall very pleased with the product; I can get a very good workout using it that is very similar to real world cycling.

Cons: Original assembly directions are very badly written but a little bit of common sense allowed me to assembly with little difficulty. The only on-going con I can think of is the weight of the apparatus. It's not something you are going to want to be putting in/taking out of storage on a daily basis. Also, can be a tad tricky to set the bike into the holding mounts but after a few tries I've found I can do it under a minute now. The placement of my drivetrain wire makes it a bit tricky because I have to set the bike into place and hold the wire out of the way so it doesn't get caught in the mount. Not the trainer's fault, just my bike setup.

I am using the trainer an hour every day on a women's Trek 7300. Am happy that is helping me stay in shape thru this awful winter.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Amazingly Quiet!!!, February 11, 2010
By D. Scott (Leesburg, VA)
I normally don't write reviews, but after using the CycleOps Fluid2 Trainer for several weeks, I can't believe how much I like it! With the DC Blizzard of 2010 keeping me from training outside, it has been wonderful! I have it in the basement where I can watch my two kids play while I ride. With the trainer angled into the corner (to keep the kids from surprising me from behind), I am able to watch TV without turning up the volume even slightly. I had a wind trainer years ago and I am amazed at how quiet this trainer is! And it has a very realistic road-feel! I would highly recommend this trainer!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great way to get exercise indoors!, April 14, 2009
By R. Reynolds (new york, ny)
I am in dental school and this semester in particular I had very little spare time to make it to the gym. I live in a small city apartment, but had a corner where I could set this up with the bike I already have. It's super quiet (once I got the slick tire ($16), that is; before that my mountain bike's knobby tires were extremely loud) and now I can easily squeeze in both a good workout and some TV time at home.

I had a few issues figuring out how to set it up (not everything is exactly obvious), but after a couple internet searches and a you tube video with instructions, it was a piece of cake. I know someone who got a less expensive fluid trainer (don't know the brand, but it's not this exact model for sure) and he says his unit gets extremely hot quickly. This cycleops fluid2 does not overheat at all. It will definitely give you adequate resistance the harder you pedal and the higher the gear you place your bike in.

We bought this for some indoor knee rehab. Tried to attach two bikes to it, smallish women's Trek 7200 and a larger men's Trek 520. In both cases the rear wheel remains firmly on the ground. Undecided as to whether we will simply return the product or try to prop up the side balance legs on some blocks of wood.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Horrible Experience and It's Not Over Yet, January 16, 2010
By Lewis S. Matheney
Assembly instructions had to be scanned and enlarged to even read the tiny print and see the tiny diagrams. Instructions were incomplete and vague. For example, you are instructed to attach parts to the CONES, but nowhere on the diagrams do you see a visual representation of the items referred to as CONES - nothing that actually tells you what the cone IS. I tried numerous times to figure out what a CONE might be, but there was absolutely no cone-SHAPED item anywhere. It turns out CONES are simply a socket of sorts with a notch in it. Still, why not at least label the item that is referred to as a cone, even if it is not cone-shaped?
Also, it's pretty common practice to provide the consumer with a list of tools necessary to complete the job at the BEGINNING of the instructions. This list does not exist at ALL in this case.
Did I know I would need some knowledge of bicycle mechanics, assembly, and disassembly in order to do this? No. In this case, you are given information way down in the middle of the assembly instructions: "As the trainer cones are designed for use with the supplied skewer, you must replace your rear skewer with the one enclosed." Really? And what if 2 of my 5 bicycles have their gear mechanism built into the existing skewer? Oh, you can't use either of those bikes with the CycleOP, sorry. The company that makes the product didn't think it would be necessary to tell me that BEFORE I made the purchase. Sort of a "oops, sorry.....good luck" kind of thing.
Now I'm getting ready to return to my local bicycle shop for the THIRD time with bike #3 in hopes that it might be compatible with this product. They're extremely helpful and nice at the shop and it just made sense to turn this whole mess over to someone with experience.
If you're a bicycle mechanic and perhaps psychic (you nearly HAVE to be to read the minds of the idiots who put these instructions together), then you might find this product easy to assemble. However, if you're a person who, in spite of owning 5 bicycles ranging from Motobecaines to a Gary Fisher, doesn't do much, if anything, in the way of mechanics on his bikes (but LOVES riding them and has used a bike as his primary mode of transportation for over 24 years in New York City and plans his vacations based on the availability of bike rentals at the desired location), then BEWARE - you are in for a frustrating ride - and all before you actually get your bike attached to the product.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Trainer, December 21, 2010
By Joseph
Let me say at the outset that this is the third iteration of a CycleOps Fluid trainer I have owned. I purchased the original Fluid 1 model before the turn of the century. An indoor trainer has been an integral part of winter training and race warm-up for years. Setup is simple even without instructions. Clamp on your bike, install a riser block or phone book on the front and pedal away. In addition to some sort of distraction like music or a TV the best additional purchase you can make with this trainer is a big fan. Since there is no wind indoors to help evaporate sweat the fan helps a great deal, in addition to keeping your core temperature down a bit for better performance.
The beauty of a fluid resistance unit is its infinite variability. No one else in my family is a competitive cyclist but I can easily attach my wife's cruiser bike to the trainer when she feels like going for an easy spin. For the weekly group hammer sessions in the garage, the trainer becomes a lung-busting torture machine able to produce puddles of sweat and make the legs feel like Jell-O.
Now, the reason why this is the third CycleOps trainer I have owned, and the four stars. Over the years of use, and abuse, the first two were replaced under lifetime warranty due to fluid leakage. The seals must erode over time. CycleOps (Saris) customer support is one of the best. Outstanding, responsive, and sympathetic only begin to describe the customer service experience. Most of them in the CycleOps division must be racers. They can relate to the frustration experienced when a piece of equipment goes down. Within minutes of informing the warranty department of the problem, I received an email with the tracking number for the replacement unit from CycleOps. Within less than five working days I had a new head unit delivered. The only downside to the warranty replacement is the defective unit must be returned at your cost. No complaints from me due to the level of customer service received, I'll be a Saris/CycleOps customer for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quality Trainer, February 15, 2010
By K. Beilke (Minnesota)
I asked my local TREK dealer about indoor trainers, he had experience with the CycleOps Fluid 2 and suggested it. He did not have any of the TREK version in stock, so we searched ebay and found a great deal on one. Assembly was easy, but you do have to install the enclosed rear axle into your bike (easy) to fit it to the trainer. Not a problem. It is realistic feeling resistance, about the only thing we did was raise the front tire so it didn;t feel like you were riding down hill all the time (since the rear tire is slightly elevated). Very happy with this product, allows use of the bike during winter months and does so with a very real resistance.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bicycle Trainer!, June 4, 2008
By Gil Galan (Chicago, IL)
I never owned a bicycle trainer before, so I don't have anything to compare it to. My only complaint about it is it's louder than I would have liked. It seems very well built, looks great, and can fold away in a closet when you want it out of site.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love It!, April 2, 2010
By J. A. Evans (Orange County, CA)
The assembly instructions were a tad bit vague/unclear. However, I managed to put the trainer together and I have been riding it ever since. The construction is sturdy - I don't feel the least bit wobbly on it. So far, I am highly satisfied with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great trainer, March 17, 2008
By Slartibartfast (Massachusetts, MA USA)
I was looking for something to augment my at-home workouts because I was getting tired of just having my rowing machine (Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my Concept 2. I just wanted a bit of variety.) at home. This trainer has been great in allowing me to get back in biking shape while snow is still a familiar sight in New England... It seems very solidly built but it does make a significant amount of racket if you are 'moving' at high speed. It is my first trainer so I don't have any point of comparison but so far so good. I have been using it, on average, 1/2 hour per session, 3 days a week, for the past few months.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Work horse of a trainer, January 18, 2009
By Hikin n bikin (San Diego, CA)
This is the best trainer I have ever used. As my third trainer I would like to pass along my happiness with its performance. The fluid trainer is the way to go. For the extra pennies per use in 5 years you get a trainer that works with you, not against you. Instead of wondering how the unit is going to perform, or when the tension is going to change all by itself again, you get a thought-free system that you can just grind against. Gotta love it.
If you are a mountain biker you have to have this. A roadie? Well you probably think you need a powertap anyway....

5.0 out of 5 stars.  CycleOps Fluid 2 Indoor Trainer, July 29, 2011
By Ryan
I was somewhat worried after I bought this trainer that it was going to be a mess to assemble, and difficult to use. Not the case at all. Once I had all the parts laid out, I was able to assemble in no time at all, and was riding within 20 minutes. The directions are not the best, but once you figure out what parts they are referring to, you will step back and say "duh, why did it take me so long to figure that out?".

Riding the trainer is an intense workout. I am starting to become a serious triathlete, and the trainer is nice for rainy days, or days when there is something keeping me from riding outside. The trainer is built really well, and I am willing to bet that it would support someone a lot larger than me. Riding the trainer will work up a sweat very quickly, and provide a great workout. There is audible noise coming from the trainer, but it is not all that loud, and once I get into the core of my workout, or whatever TV show I watch while I ride, I forget about it completely.

I purchased the block to stabilize the front wheel also. It is nice, but there are probably less expensive solutions that would provide the same results. I would recommend a mat for the floor, especially wood or carpet, because you will sweat a lot and drip it all over whatever surface you have. I just use a towel, which works fine, but a mat would be ideal, especially during the winter months where I am not moving my bike from outside to inside frequently.

Only con would be that the trainer will get very, very warm if you are riding hard and for a long period of time. I'm talking about melting plastic warm.

I have only been pleased with my purchase, and I would recommend it to someone else.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  So quiet in comparison to the wind trainer., October 9, 2010
By Sheetrock (Framingham, MA)
We own a CycleOps trainer with wind resistance. The sound generated from the wind resistance is deafening. We purchased the fluid resistance in hopes that we could ride our bicycles in the winter without suffering permanent hearing loss. The fluid trainer is very quiet and worth every penny of the purchase price. We can now easily watch a movie or listen to the radio while riding the bike without having to turn the volume up to 11.

I absolutely love this. I am not a huge cyclist, but needed to switch from running to something with less impact. It gives a great workout with plenty of resistance. It is very loud though. Definitely need the stacking block for the front.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good cycle equipment, Bad assemble instructions, February 5, 2010
By Chichmister (Massachusetts)
I received the CycleOps and climbing block on schedule. I am a mtn biker, so I changed my knobby wheel with a training wheel and it's sturdy, quiet, no vibration and easy to use. I use the trainer 4 days a week.

However, I gave it a 4 star rating because the assembly instruction was not clear, super confussing. I had to go online at other sites and complete the set up based on other customers whom purchased the same or similar item.

I love it and would definetly recommend this product to friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great trainer, worth the money, instructions need work, January 12, 2010
By Cycling Addict
Bottom line: well worth the money, great product!

Purchased this after moving north to a colder climate that doesn't support cycling 11 months out of the year. The set-up instructions left quite a bit to be desired. You have to keep looking back to the front page to see what part is what as the pictures in the instructions do not match the text. Once you understand how it sets up the actual work is easy. My wife and I did it in less than 30 minutes. Cycle Ops has a decent video on their website showing how to properly attach your bike that I would recommend anyone who buys this to watch. Their is a little noise from the trainer but it is not bad; the wind in your ears riding outside is louder. I can hear my music and my TV just fine with only a minor increase to the volume. I purchased the climbing block and the mat to go underneath. So far I actually prefer to ride without the climbing block. It seems that even on the lowest option the climbing block still puts the front wheel too high for normal riding comfort. Without the block your weight is pushed a little forward but I find that I enjoy the arm workout.

The included training DVD is decent. There is really only one warm-up and one workout on the video. The rest is just extra boring commentary and interviews at a race. But I really enjoy using the warm-up completely muted and the race without the music and get a great workout from it. That being said, I wouldn't pay good money to buy the video separate.

This is my first trainer but I've used Saris racks and if the trainer as the same quality I will not be disappointed. My Saris truck rack gave me five good years with over 60,000 miles of carrying one or two bikes across country and only one piece has started to wear out.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  easy, reliable, smooth, May 1, 2009
By H. Bartlett (Iowa City, IA United States)
My first go with a trainer and while it is not as smooth as an indoor spin bike, it allows for a nice enough ride. It is billed as the quietest of the CycleOps group - but that does not mean it is quiet. Fairly easy to set up. Worth it for less expensive home access to indoor biking and some more seat time on my favorite bike. Purchased along with the CycleOps Stackable Climbing Block and Training Mat - first is a must, second is nice to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fluid 2 Trainer, April 12, 2009
By SJE (Minneapolis, MN USA)
The trainer provides the right amount of resistance for good spin training. It is also easy on the tire tread, if set up correctly. My only concern is the side to side sway when out of the saddle. It almost feels as though the base should be wider. Thus my 4 out of 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Beat the Winter Riding Blues, December 15, 2008
By R. Clay Haubert (Cincinnati, OH)
Bought this trainer to keep in shape over the usual winter down-time. I like that it uses my regular bicycle so my tail-end stays acclimated to the seat, too. Unit assembles easily, though I did have to glue the plastic axle clamp bushings in-place to keep them from working loose. A "slave" rear axle assembly for your bike is provided so you don't mar your regular axle in the clamping mechanism. Changing the axle and mounting your bicycle only takes a minute or two. Resistance is very smooth and progressive. There is not a noticable step-change in effort as you shift gears, but the change in heart rate (via heart monitor) is apparent and can be easily controlled. Very pleased with purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A Great Product, October 24, 2007

This product is easy to assemble and great to use. It is a great way to get the exercise you need while at home. I use it and my wife uses it. My wife likes to use it while watching her favorite TV program and getting the exercise she needs. I use it to gain the needed exercise I miss out on during my busy daily schedule. Again, a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A surprisingly great addition, February 7, 2011
By Sacca7 (New Mexico)
This indoor trainer is excellent. I shopped around a lot, and this seems the best bang for the buck.

*I like that it is very easy to get my bike in and out of it. Once the initial adjustment is made, its a flip of a lever to get in and out.

*I like that it is easy to change resistance. I basically set it low, and can change gears to maintain the pace I want.

*I like that I've basically got an indoor, stationary bike and the durability of whatever bike I use on it.

*My husband, serious biker, can then set his bike in and change resistance and get in a decent work out.

*It is quiet enough for me, and I do like quiet. My dishwasher is louder.

*I've used this many, many hours in the last month and I can't see wearing out any wheels like people say. You can change the pressure of the tire against the bar, so we have that resistance set low. It also hasn't heated up to any level of concern, however it is still winter. I do doubt it will be a problem even in summer.

*I did get the supporting block for the front tire. Although the bike is stable without it, the bike is stabler when mounting and dismounting with the block in place.

I am almost 50, female, and a decent road biker that I do mostly for exercise and cross training.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good workout, but nowhere near as quiet as other reviewers say..., January 15, 2011
By Norm De Plume (Lake Forest, Illinois USA)
I purchased the JetFluid Pro Trainer - supposedly the next step up from this unit - and as far as the cycling aspect of things go, this Pro performs admirably. It lets you attach your bicycle to a stand and ride indoors. It delivers a similar ride to riding outdoors - absent the head wind of course. The effort, speed and distance all seem to be the same with the bike, whether ouside or attached to the CycleOps. If you ride a regular circuit out of doors, you'll have as much headwind as tailwind, so it makes sense (to me at least) that my average miles per hour achieved would be about the same inside as out.

The base is very stable, but you may wish to get the support stand (sold separately) for the front wheel to keep the handle bars more steady. The trainer is very well made and requires no tools to set up. You can be riding 10 minutes after you open the box.

My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I had hoped. The faster you ride, the higher the pitch and loudness of the sound eminating from the rear wheel. Pushing 16 mph, I really have to crank up the volume on the stereo (even with headphones on) to be able to hear anything other than the whining coming from the trainer. At lower speeds, the noise isn't so bad, but anything faster than 12 mph is downright annoying. I have road tires on the bike, so this noise must be coming from the "fluid" resistance unit.

If you can find one at a store to try out, I suggest doing so before buying, just to make sure you'll not be deterred by the sound at the levels you'll generate at the tempo you think you might be riding at.

Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Forget those mag trainers, this is what you want!!, December 18, 2010
By aerospacegod (NY)
I've just bought this last week and have ridden about 300 miles on it so far. I previously bought the Bell Motivator Mag Trainer but that has zero resistance, so I bought the CycleOps fluid2. This has great resistance and the best feel for when it's 3 feet of snow outside. It's also super quiet, an added plus.

The only downside so far was the installation in the very beginning, which by reading the instructions, you cannot put it together. Either you call support or figure it out yourself. I took the latter route and spent about 30 mins putting it together, but after that painful installation, it's a smooth ride so far!! This is well worth the $300 investment!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Satisfied (so far), November 3, 2010
By Steve Luglan (Raleigh, NC USA)
Just set up last night ... agree, the instructions leave a lot to be desired, but was able to figure it out and get it together. Very solid design, and smooth, quality resistance feel which reacts well (increases) with speed - so simulates real-road conditions well. Stayed cool even after a high-wattage 1 hour ride - and no leaks, etc. but only the 1st ride - time will tell.

Couple of minor concerns ...
- The noise level I found to vary throughout the 1 hr. ride ... initially a bit loud (maybe needs to warm up or be 'broken in'?) but at times it was whisper quiet, where I heard nothing but my bike's own drive train ... at times though I heard various other noises coming from the unit, but hopefully this lears up with more use.
- design suggestion: would be great if there were a way to integrate something into the resistance cam lever/assembly with numbers or something so that one could record/remember the setting used on a given ride, especially if sharing the trainer with others in the family that change the resistance for their ride(s). Currently, it is just a threaded/turn adjustment with no way of knowing what 'setting' you have it on ... just have to eye-ball it or go by feel which involves some trial & error ...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very good trainer., October 30, 2010
By my tech girl (USA)
I got this trainer to use with my hybrid bike since I cannot ride outside during winter time. The set up is easy if you follow the video from CycleOps website, the included owner's manual is somewhat confusing. Attaching my bike to it is easy once the initial set up is completed. This equipment have turned my bicycle to a traning machine. I also bought the CycleOps training mat and blocks. It is quiet but not with no noise at all. The treadmill is louder. And the best part is if something goes wrong with it, CycleOps will replace the broken part, it has lifetime warranty, at first the price seems a little high but in the long run it is all worth it.

I purchased this item to use during the winter to keep in shape. It works great and is smooth and pretty quite. I can watch TV without having to turn it up much at all.

One thing though is the flywheel isn't perfectly balanced so if I am pulled are for a while it does cause the floor to vibrate a little but I can't feel it on the bike at all. I fixed this by moving it to the basement and it doesn't seem to do it nearly as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  NO MORE EXCUSES :), January 21, 2011
By VICKIE BAILEY (BRONX, NY, US)
The best exercise equipment I have invested in so far. I finally had a chance to use the trainer and was very happy with the results. The only problem I have with trainer is that it is very noisy when you start pedaling so I turned up the TV to drown out the noise. I hope my neighbors do not start knocking on the ceiling from all of the noise. I recommend to not ride very early in the morning or late at night. The set up was easy with the help of the on-line set up video from the company web site. I finally may get back into the clothes I put in the back of my closet if I use the trainer daily. No more excuse to those who can not make it to the gym for a good cardio routine :)

I read other reviews on Amazon and I agree with most of them. This is a great trainer. Not loud at all and very easy to set up. If you're in an apartment, make sure you have some sort of pad or other sound dampening material to go under it. Then your downstairs neighbors won't have to enjoy your workouts with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  All that I had hoped for in a trainer, December 8, 2010
By Mesh (New Hampshire, USA)
Pros: Quiet...all you hear is the bike. Heavy...yes, that's a good thing! Solidly built with a reputation for standing behind their product. Looks great!

Cons: Instructions were not the best, but it still only took me <10 minutes to put it together. A bit pricey.

Would recommend to a friend for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  SWEET DUDE, February 2, 2010
By Jason Moore
It's louder than I expected, but its also quieter than I thought. It's on the 2nd floor and to the people downstairs it sounds like a washer/dryer, but that's not too bad.

It gives great resistance! Woohoo!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good trainer at this price point, January 9, 2010
By Rob (Texas)
Nearly identical to Fluid 2 Pro trainer in function, but less frills, and less $$$. Fluid 2 trainer operates smoothly, and is constructed well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Ride, Poor Instructions, January 4, 2010
By Eric S. Rogers (Bloomington, IN)
I recently got this product and have truly enjoyed my winter training at home. The instructions to put the trainer together were very poor and it took a while to get it all together but worth the wait. It is easy to connect/disconnect from my bike and easy to move where I need it.

The noise isn't bad if you have headphones in or if you have a stereo playing in the background. I have enjoyed the endless resistance that the trainer provides and combine that with a climbing block and you will be sweating it out and happy you can just hop off and fall on your couch.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  love this trainer, September 12, 2009
By destiny (portland, or)
I love this trainer! Much more quiet than my magnetic one! I cycle while my baby naps and it is the same noise level and sound as the fan in her room! It does cause a bit more wear than the road on my tire tread, but that is true off all trainers. I am keeping up on ironman training even with a baby so I can't complain! All in all, I would recommend this trainer to anyone wishing to keep in shape when they cannot ride inside!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  easy to setup, easy to use, December 3, 2008
By music maker (Chicago, IL)
This product is great! It's easy to setup, easy to use, and is very durable. Definitely recommend buying the riser block. Also, you'll want to look into getting a a rear-wheel bike computer like the CateEye Strada Double Wireless. Bike on!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  best exercise product, April 9, 2011
By easyfo me
Truly the best bike equipment for home exercise. Yes, it does make an outstanding clothing rack, but if combined with a p90 system, you don't need club memberships where you watch fitness trainers hover like vultures and dispensing psychiatric advice like so many hair stylists. Easy to set up, uses your own bike, and with tv for company, you are good to go!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Do I have a problem?, November 29, 2010
By avam
This is my first trainer. I have used it 3 times. Easy enough to set up, but it's making noises that make me wonder if something is wrong. Once it gets warmed up, there seems to be a combination of clicking and sqeaking sounds. I have a new bike, and I liked getting the rear skewer included with the trainer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fluid 2 Trainer Review, December 17, 2007
By Fun camper (Reading, PA USA)
Great service and arrived very quickly. Pretty easy to set up. A little louder than I expected, but smooth - the first trainer I've had, so I really have no comparison. Overall I am very satisfied with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love it!, September 21, 2011
By Catherine S. (San Francisco)
I bought this a few weeks ago and I love it. I wanted to cancel my gym membership to save money, and this works far better than the exercise bikes we have at the gym. It is rather loud, but not loud enough to bother my roommates. I feel that I get a better workout with it as well. I'm very pleased with this purchase :)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Trainer, September 19, 2011

Relatively easy to assemble and works great! Riding on the streets of Atlanta can be hazardous. The CycleOps Fluid 2 Indoor Bicycle Trainer allows me to get a great bike ride in my apartment.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Love it!!!!!!!!!!, September 8, 2011
By mom of 2 (pa)
I just bought this trainer 2 weeks ago. I love it. It is sturdy and well made. Yes it is noisy, but not intolerable. We have not had any complaints.
I only reason I give it a 4 star and not 5 is because the instruction manual and the pictures in it were completely useless and difficult to follow.the pictures are not helpful. If you do a google search for "fluid 2 trainer how to/blogspot", there is a link to someones blog. Absolutely the best instructions and pictures to follow along.
