My Chen Shin C637 Road Tires, October 29, 2007
By Huey G

Again the delivery was prompt. The tires seem to be of good quality (considering the price). However I hoped they would be higher pressure I believe these tires have a max P.S.I. of 60lbs. I prefer a higher pressure tire. But if you are not a serious rider I`m sure these would be fine.

Well worth the price, June 28, 2010

This is a product well worth the price paid. We have been buying these bicycle tires for two years now and find that they are an excellent choice for us to install when we rebuild used bikes for resale back to the public. This tire proves to be durable and long lasting. We plan to continue purchasing these tires for all of our rebuilt roadbikes aimed for those cyclists wanting something for their casual, recreational use. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C15I5E/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title

Fine tire for the price., December 7, 2009
By Michael W. Gregory (Seabrook, NH United States)

It's cheap. It's a serviceable tire. (Mine were rated 90 lbs.) These arrived with no obvious defects, withstood the rated pressure, and roll nicely down the street. What more do you want?

Wrong Tire, August 17, 2009
By Family Man (Utah)
|
|
The tire I ordered was with a black wall, as pictured. What I received is a yellow/gum wall tire. It's not worth the hassle of returning it so I'm just letting it go. I purposely ordered black walled tires though, so that bugged me.

Likely the best cheap 27" tire, June 15, 2011
By DrDave

I've been putting these tires on older bikes for years, and the quality seems better than other similarly-priced tires.
At this price, these of course don't have premium, hi-density anti-flat belting.
Nor do they have "chafer-strip" fabric wrapped around the bead area, so care must be used with any tire irons during installation to prevent stripping the protective rubber from the tire bead (edges)!
All in all, though, these set a standard for quality and practicality. Inflated width comes to about 28mm on a medium-width rim, and only 60psi is needed for a 150Lb rider (they are rated for much more, but wear longer and ride better at lower pressure).
I also ride mine off-road often and appreciate the generous rubber coating on the sidewalls which prevents cuts and abrasion of the fabric casing. I get away with only 60-65psi even off road over moderately rocky terrain.
Cheng Shin is a very trusted brand.
Always be aware of actual shipping costs with tires.

Great for the price!, January 18, 2011
By B. Cook (Portland, OR USA)

My tires are rated for 90 psi - unlike mentioned by one post.
They look great, and feel like a good quality. But the Bead was near impossible to seat on the rim of my bike (CR-18 27" rim). I have had some difficulty with other Sun rims, but this seems like both the tire AND the rim were working against me...
Tire works great; would buy again in a heartbeat.

Great Quality & Cheap, August 3, 2011

This tires aren't good, they're of great quality!! The material they are made of is quite strong. Although I have not ridden my bike yet, they do seem durable. The price payed for them makes it even better.
I contacted customer service to make sure they had a 90 psi. The response was very quick and helpful, as well as their prompt delivery service. I would definitely buy my bike tires from them again!!

Good Tire, July 7, 2011

As a occasional biker I have no problems with these tires. Compared to my old tires, these allow for better control in so much as that you can feel the "corners" when not on a straight-away; no more fears of sliding in the sand on the hardtop. These are more upright on the straight-aways. I like these tires.

Lopsided, May 20, 2011

The tire was imperfectly symmetrical, ruined an inner tube when I inflated it to full pressure. Cough up the money for a better quality tire.

only lasted 1.5 months, May 9, 2011
By Christoph Dribusch (TUCSON, AZ, US)

I always inflated this tire to 90 psi as specified on the tire. I bought it in March and now (mid May) it is already broken. There is a golf ball size bubble on it. I ordered another tire a few weeks ago, not sure if I will wait till it breaks as well or replace it right away. I live in Tucson and the climate and the bumpy residential streets here are admittedly pretty rough on tires.

Get Rollin!, April 5, 2011
By Risk Free
|
|
It's a good product overall, considering the price & speed of delivery. But the product performance itself were still under observation.
I'd have it installed jsut a week ago, with a set of fairly good condition rims, no warps and new inner tubes. The tire area near the valve needs to be kept massaging by other hand as you pump air into it or tied it down together (rim & tire) with a piece of flat rubber, if tire massaging is too glamorous to take. Or there'll be an uneven bulging of the tire in that particular area before it sprang out of the rim and KA-BOOM!! My dog sitting besides me be running for cover. But again, after past midnight of under pressure at 65lbs.-nothing happens, guess it's ok now. But again, the tire pressure is rated at 90 lbs. BRRRR! You dare try it?

No blows or leaks and still works. Great no frills tires which I purchased more than a year ago. Used them for daily commute for about half a year. Great value for money. Haven't many more that's as reliable and as inexpensive.

Cheng Shin, just right!, August 11, 2010

I was glad to see it matches the back tire perfectly.
If this tire has the same quality as my back tire,
it will surely last for a very long time.

Great at first... then... trouble., May 7, 2012
By K. Amesbury (Seattle, WA)

I ordered three of these a year ago. At first I thought they were a good deal, but I've since had to revise my opinion. They look great and work great - for a little while. Then they start to twist and bulge. I think it's structure weakness. The nice center bead starts to go sideways and from that point on the tire doesn't roll smoothly, it "thump, thump, thumps" its way along.
The first tire lasted about 8 months. The second only lasted about 3 months. I'm now on the third front tire, but haven't had to change out the back tire yet (different brand). So that means these tires last about 1/4 as long as tires I bought at Wal-Mart for less than the current price. (These tires were cheaper when I bought them.)
I've ridden about 25-35 miles a week mostly on well-maintained and smooth bike trails. The tires have been diligently inflated to the rated 90psi and have had no reason to fail... and yet they have.
I can't recommend this tire. Buying them was a mistake. I'll be ordering more tires soon (I'm out of spares), but I won't be ordering these.

I put these tires on the 27" rims of an an old Schwinn road bike, and they fit perfectly. The rubber is a very clean, dark black, so they look nice. Very good grip as well.

Excellent Tire.....Nice Tread and Wire Bead for Safety, November 15, 2011
By The Jaundiced Eye (Texas, USA)
|
|
With no 27" tires available in my area, I ordered two Chen Shin C637's from Amazon. Standard delivery took a little over a week and the tires exceeded my expectations. I have come to prefer wire-beaded tires after having some scary problems with tire separation from the rim after rapid air loss. They are a little more difficult to install (a tire spoon is necessary), but once on the rim, they stay there. Nice tread pattern and rubber compound provide confidence in high-speed turns. Since it never rains here, I cannot vouch for stability on wet pavement. Bottom line: For twice the price, you could not buy a better tire !!!
