Soft rubberized cradles protect bike frames while holding them securely. View larger. Locking pin release at rear of upright section allows you to angle the upright structure of the carrier back for access to hatchbacks View larger. Solid Entry-level 2-Bike Hitch Carrier Designed for durable entry-level use, the Parkway 2-Bike Hitch Carrier accommodates up to two bikes utilizing an the user's existing 2 inch hitch receiver at the tail end of your vehicle. (1¼ hitch receivers are not supported) The Parkway 2-Bike carrier is incredibly strong, stable and full featured, with durable high-strength steel construction and varied standard components, including: rubberized carrier arm cradles that prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact which dramatically reduces the chance of scratches to vehicles and bikes and compatibility with certain locking systems (sold separately). These locking systems include: the Snug-Tite receiver lock, which virtually eliminates hitch rack movement in receiver and locks the hitch rack to the vehicle and Thule's 6 ft. Braided Steel Cable # 538, which locks bikes to the carrier. In addition, when not loaded with bikes the Parkway 2-Bike Hitch Carrier has the convenient ability to tilt its upright structure away from the vehicle that it is mounted on. Users simply need to remove the tethered safety pin and gently lower the entire upright assembly of the carrier to a built-in stopping position in the form of an angled contour at the outward end of the stinger component. This easy functionality allows for hatch or tailgate access (bikes must be removed first) and means that you can get to every corner of your vehicle when you want to, without having to remove the carrier. Thule 2 Bike Rack, May 24, 2008
By Louis Jimenez (Pompano Beach, Florida)

This product works well, but if you plan to keep your bikes secure you will have to make some changes. First of all, if you build it according to the manufacturer's instructions, your bikes can be stolen easily. This product offers ZERO security, making it useless if you plan to stop somewhere before you take the bikes off the rack. The pin is a joke, the system requires the user to literally bolt the rack to the hitch, which is totally impractical, furthermore anyone with a wrench can steal both your bikes and your bike rack. In order to secure the rack to the car, I drilled out the threads making the hole larger so it could accept a lockable pin which would secure the bike rack to our vehicle. Given the thickness of the metal, I had to invest in a $45 drill bit, making this bike rack much more expensive.
If security is not an issue for you, then by all means this bike rack will work for you, I don't think that the pin that holds the rack to the hitch will hold up, so that part earns a zero on this end. If you plan to leave your bikes un-attended, then this bike rack is not a good buy and I strongly recommend not making the investment.

Horrible rack, September 29, 2008
By Eric Younan (Detroit area, MI)

This is a terrible rack. It does not hold the bikes on securely as the straps are weak. I've have several scary highway moments. Plus, it does not separate the bikes and scratches and dings your bikes. It is poorly designed. Additionally, you have to buy a locking hitch pin to make it secure. Do not buy it unless you want to ruin your bikes.

This is a great bike rack for the weekend warrior, March 28, 2010
By Weekend Warriors (Winston Salem, NC USA)

Read all the reviews and got this bike rack, we are going to use it on two different vehicles. The rack arrived in two days and was ready to go out of the box, followed the directions and attached to vehicle without any problems. Put the bikes on the rack and check to see what else I needed. The bikes did not move once attached, also the bikes have a heavier frame than racing bikes so they fit tighter to the rack. No problem. I purchased a locking pin for the receiver and a lock system for the bikes to lock to the rack, the few extra dollars for locks was to insure no theft on trips and make the vaction and fun time worry free. This is a great rack for those who don't want to spend a lot to get started. Excellent choice.

Thule Rack exceeds expectations, September 14, 2009
By Wified (Mystic, CT)

The rack arrived within a week of ordering. Assembly took less than 5 minutes and was simple to do. Rack fits 2" receiver perfectly. A bolt is screwed into one of the receiver holes to fasten the rack. Finger tight would probably do but I take a 3/4" wrench to snug it up. It comes with a strap that keeps the bikes firmly fastened to the rack. Rubber hold-downs work well and can be adjusted to fit most bikes. Rack is lightweight and easy to insert into receiver as well as remove. Although rack can be lowered via a hinge to allow hatchbacks to open, you are advised to not do it with bikes attached. All-in-all, a rugged, lightweight, simple rack that gives you confidence that your bikes will arrive when you do without damage.

Thule Bike Hitch, April 3, 2009
By William Cavanaugh
|
|
I found the Thule bike hitch very easy to assemble and use. The only draw back is that I wish they had made it easier to collapse and store when it's not on the car. Also instead of a bold holding it to the receiver hitch a pass through pin would have been nice so the hitch could be locked to the car.

Nice Rack, January 7, 2010
By R. Warren (New Jersey)

This is a very solidly built Hitch Mount bike rack. It does exactly what it claims (holds 2 bikes) and it does it well. I know that I will have this mount longer than I have my current vehicle. I would definitely recommend this product and would buy it again.

Solid and low price, but low on features, December 21, 2009
By D. Morency
|
|
This bike rack is very solid, and heavy. The down side is that the tilt down away from the car is a pin instead of a push button like other models. THis is not a huge problem, but the fold down section on top that holds the bikes requires a bolt, and hence a wrench. This was the most disappointing part of the rack. Will have to see if I can find a pin to fit this.

Thule 2-bike hitch mount rack, August 27, 2009
By A. William Ceglia
|
|
The "bolt in" hitch is a bit more inconvenient than a pin. If you want to lock it, you must order a special locking bolt. Bolt-in provides a little more stability, however. I keep a ratchet wrench in my truck now. The rubber or neoprene fasteners slide inward on the support bars for the outside mounted bike during transport. Although it has happened with each use, it has not caused a problem, yet. Its okay, it gets the job done.

Great Rack, Sturdy, August 19, 2009
By SSS (Pa)

This bike rack worked perfectly for us. My husband loves his bike and put a lot of extras into it. I was surprised that he approved of this rack and had no complaints. We have taken our 2 bikes on it several times for approximately 150 miles each time. We priced around as well and the value was very good.

Well built, easy assembly, but caution with spare tire, July 15, 2011
By TikiJack (Columbus, GA)
|
|
This bike rack is of solid construction and is also mostly assembled out of the box. Only 2 bolts with washers and nuts remain, and then the bolt that holds the rack to your receiver. The cradle for the bikes is of sturdy rubber material, and yet pliable enough to prevent marring of your bikes. I have 3 issues with this rack I'd like to share: (1) Not enough clearance to install on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler due to the spare. Lacks about 1" of clearance, so now I am spending another $40 for a 2in to 2in 8in extension. (2) A bit too much 'slop' of the upright arm to the receiver section. This part allows tilting to access the tailgate, so perhaps this is unavoidable, but it rattles easily. (3) The hole to put a pin thru to secure to the receiver on the vehicle is threaded, with the intent that you attach via the provided bolt. Due to this, I cannot use my receiver locking pin. Otherwise, this bike rack seems very solid, and I expect from a Thule product that this rack will last me for quite some time.

junk, June 22, 2011
By sneaux
|
|
The only reason it got two stars is because, technically, it does carry bikes. First, the arms don't fold down without taking out a bolt with a lock nut (so a wrench is needed). Second, not sure what the design concept is with the receiver. A bolt that goes through one side of the receiver and one side of the rack, and not through either of the other side?

This Thule hitch mount bike rack is built to last. The sturdy construction and ease in which to secure it to the back of my vehicle, along with a great reputation, are the main reasons I choose Thule.

Well worth it, December 18, 2010

I really like this bike rack. Taking the bike on and off is simple. However, the bike does slide because the rubber craddles are not stationary and I am unable to open my rear door entirely but enough to access my stuff.

Thule Bike Hitch, June 29, 2010
By Edgar D Tower (Huntington Beach, CA United States)
|
|
The hitch was pretty easy to put together, but one of the holes for the bolt was slightly out of alignment. I had to file it out. Its easy to mount on the truck and use. The holder for the outside bike slides forward during use. I bought a i inch pipe and put it between the two bike latches and it works really great.
