My Preferred SoniCare Toothbrush, February 11, 2015

SoniCare toothbrushes do a great job brushing the teeth, so much better than others I've tried as well as manual. I greatly prefer this battery operated model to the rechargeable SoniCare Essence, because there is less bathroom clutter, and replacing the AA batteries every 30 days is much simpler than dealing with all the recharging and cord placement. I'm currently using one that I bought for a trip in 2009, so it is looking old but continues to work fine. More recently I've been buying this model for relatives.
The rechargeable SoniCare toothbrushes cost much more, even at Costco. And then the rechargeable batteries would go bad at some point anyway, and replacing them was such a pain. I got this battery operated "travel" model for a trip, and found it so much easier and simpler to use, with less bathroom clutter, that this is what we all use now.
I tried out their newer and cheaper battery model, Philips Sonicare Powerup, and it doesn't vibrate quite as fast as the Xtreme, but is still better than other electric toothbrushes. So if you want something cheaper, consider that.
Note: I used to regularly get this model for $25-$30, but now the going rate (as of this writing) seems to be about $40. However, I've seen some greatly jacked up prices for this model from price-gouging businesses.

Really good while it lasts, November 11, 2014

This was the first Sonicare brush I ever bought. I really liked this until it died after about 4 months. So I went to order another one but the price on this particular model had almost doubled since I originally purchased it so I went with a different Sonicare brush. It wasn't nearly as good as this one and it lasted about 5 or 6 weeks before it died also. So this is a really good brush while it lasts which won't be for very long, so don't bother with buying replacement heads which are kind of pricey.

Don't listen to the naysayers!, July 04, 2014

I've had my battery sonicare model for around 5 years now! It works like a champ with 2 Duracell rechargeable batteries. I think I charge them about once per month.
Here's the thing: it's not made to have water on the handle. Just don't get it wet. Ever. Just wet the brush head with toothpaste on it, brush your teeth, then rinse the brushhead and immediately unscrew it from the base and put it somewhere to dry.
If you keep the base dry all the time...it will last forever!!! Love this thing! Got it at Kohls for under $20!

I love this tooth brush, April 25, 2014

I love this tooth brush. No cord! When used properly ( two minutes) it definitely reduces the tartar build up compared to a regular tooth brush. I haven't been back for a cleaning in four years...but then everyone's mouth chemistry is different. My husband has always had real bad build up issues. He refuses to do the two minutes and basically just puts the tooth brush in his mouth to taste the tooth paste! So, he is not a good case study...I've always been a fanatic brusher with a non electric tooth brush, but since I've used the Philips Sonicare it takes a lot longer to get the tarter build up. This is my second one. I have found that wiping the unit dry after using it keeps it cleaner. It easily comes apart to clean and batteries (I use rechargeable) last several months.

Just as good as the rechargeable e series and riduculously cheap, April 11, 2014

I've been using a rechargeable Sonicare for, I don't know, probably seven or eight years. It still works fine but the base has yellowed over time and become nauseating to look at. Plus I've discovered the joy of using rechargeable batteries for everything instead of getting special chargers for every damn device in the house. Wireless keyboards, travel book lights, videogame controllers—rechargeable batteries, baby. Anyway, this toothbrush is just is EXACTLY the same as the rechargeable e series I used to have. The fact that it's marketed toward teenagers is silly, god knows teenagers don't give a crap about toothbrushes.

Opt for a rechargeable model, January 09, 2014

I've had a Sonicare toothbrush for about 15 years now and I love it. On her dentist's recommendation, my fiance wanted to give one a try. We got her the battery operated model since she was unsure she'd like it. She LOVES it though. The one downside to it - and it's a big one - is that the battery life leaves a lot to be desired. She's been using it about six months and we've replaced the batteries about six times. Had I known the battery life was so abysmal, we would have gotten her a rechargeable model.
