Please note the "Presta" Valve!, June 18, 2008
By Nomad of Mod-Blog (Shelton, CT)

|
Nothing major to add to the other reviews in terms of quality check. It is a tiny product - shorter than most remote controls - and it works well.
However, as a newbie to biking, I was not aware of the difference between a "Presta" and "Schraeder" valve. Old time valves and those on most mountain and hybrid bikes are the SCHREADER type. This one is Presta which is more common on road bikes. If you are not sure which type you have DO NOT BUY this. I had to send mine back for this reason.

Little big pump, September 7, 2006
By Steve W (SF bay)

|
I was not sure about this pump but thought I would give it a try. If you want to keep your bike light this is a very good pump, light and small. I was amazed at how well it worked. I had a pump that is twice as big and worked fine but in comparison was harder to get to higher pressure. The pump would push back making it very hard to get the tire pressure. This pump works as well at low pressure as it does when the pressure gets higher but you will need to do a lot of pumping. It was not to bad getting the tire up to 50psi, getting it to 80psi the palm of my hand was sore from holding the pump still on the valve. Going to 100psi was after a break and did another little jaunt. Getting to 120psi was the same as 100 with the break. The back pressure was not the problem I could take breaks and get the pressure higher. The pump is very good at dealing with back pressure much better then my Michelin and easier at the higher pressure. I could see it living up to Topeaks claim but doubt any one doing it with out it being there job. I used a gauge but on the road I would'nt have the gauge or the patients to do 100 or 120psi on the road.
It is a very light get you back on the road pump. I bought the aluminum for the reason of for only 10 extra grams of weight at half the price.

Great power in a small package., August 4, 2006

This is a great little pump, amazingly lightweight and small enough to carry in a seat wedge. You'll be amazed at how little effort is required to quickly inflate a tire. I don't see it matching its claims of inflating to 120 lbs or more; I find too much back-pressure to keep getting air in before the tire is inflated to optimal pressure, but it's definitely enough to get you back on the road quickly and easily. Another big plus: It costs half as much as the carbon fiber version, and is only about 1/2 ounce heavier.

Recommended! But remember it is what it is, November 17, 2008

Ultra light and ultra small is indeed the point of this pump. Came with a great plastic mount to attach it to the frame with your water bottle, and it stays put as it should. It looks great and most of all prevents adding more weight for that monster hill route you love/hate.
It does push a surprising amount of air for how little it is, but I would personally like to actually *see* video some of these claims that it will pump to 100psi in 3 minutes. Due to its size you have to make up for a lack of volume with your muscles. Which isnt alot of fun as there's really no good place to grab either end of it; your hand starts aching in a hurry, and since you're having to put alot of force on each throw of the pump when pressures get higher (due to the small volume), you find your pushing your valve stem all over the place (I even tore one), which means you need a third hand to steady it on the vavle stem when pushing hard. Honestly, if i'm riding with others, the first thing I do when I flat is ask who else has a properly large pump I can borrow.
However, it is a great little pump & I do recommend it. Just place your expectation of it as an emergency measure to get you through your ride until you can properly inflate your tire. After all, if you only get a few flats a year, there's no point in dragging around a huge mountain bike pump; this little guy works great as what it is: a superlight tiny pump for emergency flat repair.
Another less important bit of info is that there's a little carbon fibre disc on top of it for looks. It popped off at one point and I super glued it back on.

Check your tire valves first!, April 17, 2008
By Liz Z
|
|
I bought this because it had amazing reviews, and they're all true about how small and light it is. Unfortunately, as a novice with the bike stuff, I didn't realize that my bike doesn't have the kind of "presta valve" that this pump matches with, and so I couldn't use it. (I have a mountain bike with a short, wider valve and this doesn't fit over it.) So, make sure you know you have the right kind of valve on your tires before you buy it and I'm sure it will work great as everyone else said.

best micro light I've tried, March 22, 2007
By Dan (santa fe, nm)
|
|
I was worried that being a micro-mini it would not be usable... but was pleasantly surprised. It takes about 3-3.5 minutes to fill a 23x700c tire to 100psi, will less effort than several larger pumps I've had. It was very easy up to maybe 80 psi, and not too bad to finish after a short rest break and switching hands. Only negative is no thumb-lock on the head, just press on, which may wear out the gasket pretty fast.

Cool little pump!!, February 21, 2007
By J Danielle (Florida)

Out of all the smaller pumps I have bought in the past, this is by far the best. It fits the presta valve perfectly and it's pretty well made. Since it's sooo small the only issue is that you have to pump it alot but it will pump out to the psi that you need. Also, it doesn't come with any real instructions unless I missed something but it's fairly easy to figure out that you have to unscrew the end and screw it back on to the valve then off again. Definitely a Great deal for the money!

It will get you home, May 17, 2009
By Pen (Hometown USA)
|

This pump may be capable of 160psi, but not with me running it. I use CO2 and purchased this pump only to provide backup for the CO2 (nobody should rely solely on CO2). I purchased the pump because I wanted a backup pump that would fit inside my wedge pack. This pump fits the bill perfectly.
I tested the pump on a 23x700c tire. The first 100 strokes were pretty easy. The second 100 strokes were a bit more difficult so I took a short break. By then the tire pressure was near 60 psi. At 300 strokes the tire was above 80 psi and pumping was now requiring some upper body strength. The final 50 strokes were nothing short of difficult but got the tire above 90 psi. At that point I was convinced that the pump could get me home in a pinch and I called it quits.
Normally, I'll start a tire w/ a pump just until the tire is a little firm (probably 20 or 30 psi) and top it off w/ CO2.
A word of advice: As near as I can tell, the best way to use the pump is to hold the wheel w/ the valve at the top, valve down, pump opening pointed up. Hold the pump in the fingers of one hand w/ the thumb of that hand wrapped around the tire to steady the wheel. The pump will seal well like this and, at least up to the 90+ psi I tried, should not leak. This might be difficult if you have long stem tubes in low profile wheels. I'm not sure how you would do this if you had too much stem exposed.
These micro/mini pumps are really only good for backup. If you don't have CO2, I'd advise using a frame pump, like the Topeak Road Morph. The Road Morph is a great stand-alone pump for roadside repairs. But if you instead pack CO2, this pump is the perfect backup and it fits nicely in a wedge pack.

Topeak 'Little' Micro Wonder, November 21, 2007
By zippers (CA USA)
|
|
Every once in a while, you buy something that really delivers, and this is one of those products. The Topeak Micro Rocket is portable but powerful at the same time. You'll need to be patient with it, but it's not very difficult to get your 23c-25c road tire up to 100psi (about 3 minutes). That's saying a lot, because I've had previous pumps twice as big that could barely get to 75psi. I've given up with CO2's as well (they've left me stranded when they fail). Get this little pump. You won't be disappointed.

I am sure its good but...., March 25, 2008

This little thing is pretty small and light! Would fit in my backpack and I would almost forget it was there! But I bought a "Lamborghini Rapido Road Bike" the same time I bought this but its too small to fit over my tire tube air intake thing(sorry don't know the name lol)
Maybe it isn't for road bikes? not sure.
But it is light, small and I know it works when I pump it, but I didn't know those little tube air in take things come in different sizes and t just doesn't fit.

ultra light, June 18, 2008
By Sesshomaru (Va. USA)

This is an incredible little pump.
I have managed to crank out 100psi without gut-busting effort.
the handle should be pushed from the bottom, otherwise you risk seperating the housing from around the base, which does not affect performance and is easily glued back in place.
other than that one weak spot, no complaints.

Great for its intended purpose, July 12, 2011
By Quiwi

Rather than have a separate frame pump mounted to each of my bikes I opted to purchase the smallest bike pump I could find and just toss it in my messenger bag. The pump is presta only, but I got a schrader -> presta adapter and keep it attached to the pump at all times. I wouldn't want to use this pump very often and I have a floor pump at home for my general use. However, for fixing on the road flats this is a great pump to have! The only real issue I have is when I'm trying to find a puncture in a tube to patch... if the leak is too large it is difficult to keep the tire inflated long enough to find it!
Pros:
Tiny size
Durable (it's been tossed around in my messenger bag for years and it works fine)
Cons:
Tiny stroke volume. It takes a while to pump up skinny road tires. I probably wouldn't recommend it for larger volume tires.
Durability of the head. The pump does not have a clamp so it is just a friction fit onto the valve. It has been fine for the last few years but it's starting to get loose now.
For the size, it can't be beat!

good small pump fits in jersey, May 19, 2011
By pPin1-3
|
|
I'm very satisfied with this pump. It easily fits in your jersey and does the job (had to use it twice so far to fix a flat on my road bike). No need to use the included frame mount. Of course this is an emergency pump for use on the road only and it requires a lot of pumping. This is not a substitute for a good floor pump to fill your tires before you hit the road. Unlike with other pumps there is no back pressure build up whith this one, so filling the tube is relatively easy (a few minutes for a road bike 700x23C). Decent overall quality and good weight.

Super pump gives good PSI levels even though tiny!, May 17, 2010
By Visit my Amazon Profile page! (Bay Area, CA)
|
|
I have a couple of the carbon versions of this pump (the 55g ones) and got this for a rainy day bike so I will never have forgotten my pump. It is small enough to easily fit in my seat post bag, and in spite of the small size and light weight pumps quite easily to 80-90 psi. You can go further, but it gets a bit of a chore. To get you back home again, 80 or 90 psi is fine. It is Presta only, which is fine for me as all my tubes are Presta. A good price. A great pump.
p.s. I had one of the carbon ones fall out (my stupidity) and saw a pickup truck drive directly over it, and when I went and collected it, other than some scrapes, it still works fine as a pump! Can't say more than that for durability of these little guys.

PRESTA VALVE ONLY - aarrgh!, December 26, 2008
By Technophile (New York)

I wish I had read the reviews on this more carefully - and too bad the listing for this product doesn't mention the fact that the Micro Rocket AL MasterBlaster cannot be used on wheels with conventional Schrader valves (the kind mountain bikes and cruisers take). I had to return it. Too bad, because it's beautiful...

It's a good but really small pump, January 19, 2010
By R. Myers (D.C.)
|
|
I ride and average of 40 miles and occasionally I have flats that seem to always occur in the middle of nowhere. As a committed cartridge user, I find that their success rate is marginal at best. Failing more often hand having me rely on the kindness of strangers more than a few times, I wanted a hand pump as an backup.
Looks - The Topeak is a nice looking product, much smaller than I thought at about 10 inches, or slightly bigger than a cigar holder. I wanted something small to carry in my jersey but it's borderline small enough to not feel or hear if it falls. As advertised, it's as light as a feather. It has the the fashionable carbon-look end caps for all those fashion mavins and came in a fancy box with lots of languages and little instruction. The bracket is comical, use it at your peril. The aluminum looks good, I wouldn't want to drop it too many times because its definably not aircraft quality.
Function - While it looks great, it's was a little awkward to use. On a test run, I placed it firmly on my presta valve and had some difficulty with enough room for the pumping action, there wasn't a lot of real estate to grab on to it to make a pumping motion. The actual pumping action didn't require too much effort but I just can see anyone having enough hand strength, stamina or hours to get anywhere close to 160 PSI, but who really needs that anyway? Also, getting it off the valve took some effort. It was very secure, which means a tight seal, but it took me over 3 minutes of negotiation to get the thing off.
Verdict - If you want a good-working, good-looking pump at a great price, this is it. It's not perfect at points, being awkward to use especially for people will bigger hands who are frail, but it really does work.

Really works, minimalistic and light, but not without problems, October 27, 2009
By MidnightRunner
|
|
I really like this pump since it can fill a road bike tube and weighs next to nothing.
However there are some drawbacks - the tube on the handle needed to be re-glued to the end cap since it was flopping around after several uses - though when fixed it was as good as new. The design also makes me cautious of getting pinched by the tube on the handle and the body of the pump since it seems like a real possibility - has not happened yet, but it is always on my mind when I have to use it.
Although, due to it's lightness, it seems fragile, I have yet to have an issue with it.

Solid little pump, October 10, 2009

This is a great small pump that can be attached pretty much anywhere on the bike. Only critisim is that it takes a while to inflate a tire, but that's to be expected with a pump of this size.

Topeak Micro bike pump, September 30, 2008
By A. Malezis (Toronto)
|
|
This is a great product, if you are looking for a small, light and dependable bike pump. I've used CO cartridges and while they can be quick and require little effort, they can also be quirky. For that reason I invested in a small lightweight pump. This pump is well built, looks and feels solid, and is small enough to fit in my under-seat bag.
You should take care when inflating, so as to not stress the tube valve - other designs offer a flexible valve connection "neck", thereby reducing this strain, however these designs tend to be much bigger and bulkier. You should also expect this pump will take a little longer to inflate than other bigger units.
Highly recommended - great product and the price was right!

the size limits its functionality. it's extremely hard to get 120psi since there is no lock on the pump. and it takes forever to inflate a flat tube. don't buy. the road morph g is a way better choice.

Get you to about 80-90 PSI and the rest takes forever, October 30, 2011
By Chengcheng Xu (San Jose, CA USA)
|
|
It is a tiny little thing that fits perfectly on your bike or your pouch. I used it only about twice. The nice thing about the pump is that it is light and get your back to a condition where you can ride again. The bad part is it only get you to about 80-90 PSI. I haven't tested it will actually push a tire to 160PSI but it gets pretty hard to pump around 80, also the pump gets warm. I think 80-90 PSI is enough for me to finish the ride. So I am not complaining. I do like this pump a lot. And I will recommend this to a friend.
