3.0 out of 5 stars.  Mixed Bag, March 4, 2008
By P. Bahniuk (Wellington, - New Zealand)
I've had this pump for about a month.

Pumps up tires/tubes with Shrader valves OK.

The Presta valve side of the twin head does not work properly with short stemmed Presta valves. It seems that the pump nozzle has difficulty in forming a good seal with short stemmed Presta valves. The pump will only pump up to around 75 PSI into the tire/tube. Pressures beyond 75 PSI appear to "seal" the valve, which prevents further tire/tube inflation. The extra pressure just pressurizes the pump hose only!

Pumping to higher pressures is a bit difficult. Especially when compared to easier working pumps such as Specialized and Blackburn brands which I have also.

Overall it is an average pump.

Not recommended for use with short stemmed Presta valves.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The Topeak Joe Blow Max II bicycle pump - first impression., November 19, 2007
By Bruce (Newtown, PA)
When the pump arrived, it was larger than the impression I had from the picture in the ad. Nice quality of construction. When you place it on a level surface, it stands instead of falling over like many other pumps. The action is very smooth on this pump. On mountain bike tires, each time the pump was stroked a full cycle, it added about 4.5 lbs. of pressure to the tire. Not bad. So if the tire is low, at say 20 psi, it takes only about 7 pumps to bring it up to 50 psi. (This will be different on different size tires, expect to pump a lot more strokes on a car tire). The pressure gauge has a movable collar not visible in the photo that has a red arrow on it. Align the red arrow with the desired pressure, and just pump until the needle is aligned. The valve connector worked well and locked in place without any air leakage. Storage of the hose is well thought out. After clipping the hose in place, it also holds in the handle from unwanted extension if picked up by the handle or laid on its side, also protecting the polished rod by keeping it inside the cylinder. For the money, it looks like you can't go wrong!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nothing special - It just works, August 9, 2007
By T. Toft (Oswego, IL USA)
If you want a simple, reliable, and economical floor pump, you don't need to look any further. It's easy to use, works like you'd expect, and I've not had any problems with it at all. On top of it's basic utility, it also provides the means to store its accessories (alternate hose tips) directly on the pump so that you don't need to risk losing them.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  No good over 70 lbs, June 29, 2008
By Midwest birdwatcher (SW Missouri)
This pump is OK for inflating mountain bike tires to 60 lbs (and the gauge is fairly accurate up to that point), but forget about higher pressures unless you weigh a couple hundred pounds yourself.

Beyond 70 lbs I had to push down on the pump handle and jump off the floor at the same time to force the handle down, three jumps to complete one pump! That worked for a couple of pumps, but at about 80 lbs the handle refused to budge with all of my weight on it (a bit under 150 lbs). The gauge was not accurate and read much higher. I tried several tires thinking I might not have the head seated correctly, and yes I bled the presta valves, but I got the same results.

I ended up filling road tires to 100 lbs with the compact emergency road pump I've been using up to this point. I think the "fast, high pressure" and "max 120 psi" advertising is misleading; I wouldn't recommend this pump for higher tire pressures at all. Niagara's return policy says they only accept returns in unopened, original packaging, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Joe Blow Max "Blows", August 11, 2009
By HomeBrew (Connecticut)
I've had a Joe Blow Sport pump for 5+ years and it was great. Decided to get a 2nd pump, one for home & family use and one to leave in the car. Based on my old pump & positive general Joe Blow reviews, I bought a Joe Blow "Max" from the LBS last week, and it blows !
Once I get up to 80 psi, I really have to LEAN on it for each stroke to get up to 110. I mean my feet just about lift off the ground ! (I weigh 170)

I got my old Joe Blow pump out and tried it ... zip zip zip right to 110 no problem.

I am on my way back to the shop to return it.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  90-day warranty? Are you kidding?, June 3, 2009
By progstock (U.S.)
I bought this pump to replace a Schwinn standup bicycle pump I bought in 1975 that finally broke...at least, the hose did. The all-metal construction of the rest of the pump probably would've lasted another three decades. I bought the Joe Blow based on price and good reviews here on Amazon.com. First thing I noticed upon unpacking it is that materials ain't what they used to be. The pump is mostly plastic; the metal compression tube is thin metal -- I think that may be the only metal part of the entire machine. The cheapness is borne out by the manufacturer's unbelievable pride and confidence in their product by offering an astounding 90 day warranty. That last sentence was satire; hopefully you got it.

On the plus side, the pump has a dual schrader/presta nozzle, which is handy. My old trusty Schwinn was schrader, so I had to keep a presta adapter handy for my bike. Unfortunately, this dual nozzle makes it bulky, and I had trouble fitting it over the schrader valves of my cars to inflate the tires because of the tight clearance between the valve and the rims. Also, the gauge on the Joe Blow is hideously innaccurate. Not even in the ballpark on the two bike tires and eight automobile tires I inflated, then doublechecked with my AccuMaster tire gauge ("Best stinkin' tire gauge in the entire Universe" according to Click & Clack, and I don't doubt it...). So far off as to be utterly useless.

One more complaint: It's tough to pump. I have no idea why this would be, but I had a hard time inflating my bike tires to proper (120 lbs. psi) pressure. All-in-all, I'm very disapointed in this merchandise.

UPDATE: In this product's favor, I have now been using it for over a year and it's still working. I don't use the built-in gauge to measure tire pressure -- it's just too inaccurate. The most annoying feature is the difficulty in pumping up bike tires to recommended pressure. I'm a pretty strong guy, and I can just barely do it when thrusting down with all my might. Not a recommended product, but as I said, still working in it's most necessary capacity.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  too hard to use, July 3, 2007
By tandem rider (Iowa)
I have used the pump that is a step up from this one and have had no trouble getting my tires to 85 psi. I was not able to comfortably use this one; apparently the barrel is a little bigger, which means it pushes more air, and therefore is harder to use. It is probably ok for people of above average strength.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, Great customer support, October 6, 2007
By M. Dionne (Newton, MA United States)
I've had this pump for over a year, and it works great. The reversible head never pops off like some others do. The handle is plastic but it seems sturdy enough.

I've had other Topeak products for many years, and several times I have contacted them (via email) for small parts, and they have sent them for free.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quick pump up at home!, May 12, 2007
By Paul Moser (Cortland, OH)
For the longest time, I had to take my bike to the local gas station to pump my bike tires to 90lbs. I had a small electric air pump that couldn't get to that high of a pressure. This hand pump was able to get my tires right back up to 90lbs.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Worked Fine, November 1, 2007
By James Duckett (St. George, Utah)
This worked just fine, but I thought it could have slid onto a Presta valve with less problems. But once you get it on there it inflates the tires quickly and easily and the pressure gauge worked great.

It's a minor complaint, but for thirty bucks this is a great deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty good, September 19, 2008
By Beth (Denver, CO)
I ran out to buy this pump after using one belonging to a friend. I really loved it because it makes inflating your tube so easy - no need to crank down hard on the handle. Unfortunately, about a year later, it failed to inflate the tube at all. I took it back to the bike store and they told me that after a year this is a common problem with this pump. Oh well. Now I'm debating whether to get another one or try something different.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Valves Are Bad, Replace Every 3 months, October 5, 2008
By Rich Baystard (Seattle, WA)
I've gone through 3 Joe Blow pumps in 9 months. The overall pump is sturdy but the valve falls apart with only minor use in a very short period of time. Lucky for me my local bike shop let me swap them out for free. It's really a crying shame that this company doesn't get it, the valves are just cheap plastic and not on par with the rest of the pump.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome pump for a great price, January 19, 2008
By Tim Banks (Houston, TX)
I purchased this product based on the existing reviews I read on it to use at home, mainly for my road bike. I had a cheap $20 pump from the local sporting goods store, and the gauge simply wasn't accurate - I kept over inflating my MTB tires with it and ended up with flats all the time. My fault, yes, but nonetheless a new pump was in order. I've only used this pump a few times, but so far, I'm impressed! It only takes a few pumps to get my road tires up to the proper pressure, and the long tube that secures the handle is a nice feature as well. Definitely a great pump for its price point. I'm very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for car tires, September 20, 2010
By Dmitriy Guller
I was looking for a bike pump that could keep my car tires inflated, as I'm not a big fan of doing it at a gas station. This pump definitely does an excellent job.

On my car tires, it takes 4 strokes to bring up the pressure by 1 psi, which is an amazing rate for a bike pump. Other bike pumps can easily require 10 times as many strokes. It's definitely worth the money, and it appears to be sturdy enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great for my uses, April 20, 2009
By YoungSmart1 (MD)
I purchased this pump for my bike tires and exercise ball. The hand pump that came with a 75cm ball was a joke! I've only owned one pump before, and it was a foot pump that was also a joke. So far, for my uses, this pump works great. The gauge is accurate as compared to other gauges we have around the house. It took a couple of minutes to inflate the exercise ball. Bike tires were a breeze--a few pumps and done. I stayed away from some of the cheaper pumps due to the poor reviews. Maybe they would have worked fine, but I'm happy with what I've got.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, but the gauge is 15 PSI low., June 18, 2008
By Skeeterfood (Marion, IA)
The pump is smooth and fast, but the analog gauge on mine is about 15 PSI low according to my digital gauge and some other older tire gauges I had laying around. At least it's consistently 15 PSI low, so I can easily adjust for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  One of the best for the $$, December 1, 2009
By D Swalj
People have posted some reviews about having difficulty pumping to > 100 psi. I haven't had this (or any other) problems with the pump. For the money, I think this is the best bike pump out there. I have even had to return two previously for issues. I can't comment on its durability since I've only had it for one season, but it certainly does the job up to 110 psi.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Multi Use Pump, November 30, 2009
By J. Butler (Lexington, KY)
This is the second Topeak pump (portable pump for bike) that I have purchased and both have fit expectations. The floor pump was longer than expected but was manageable. I have used the pump for various inflations (bike, farm trailer, tiller) and it has work very well. I have check the mounted guage against a digital guage and it is fairly accurate within usually 3 pounds. The locking knob works well and releases without lost of much air. The only improvement would be a better base since the plastic feels a little thin. Price was a positive factor and I would purchase it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Simply not working above 90 psi, September 11, 2009
By kidnej (Ann Arbor, MI)
I bought this pump for my bike's 700 x 23 tires which require for my weight a pressure of 115 psi. Shamefully this pump was not able to get air in the tire above 90 psi - even when I put my whole weight on the handlebar (fearful of a serious explosion ;-)) nothing happened.
I picked a Topeak JoeBlow Max since I was very happy with a very similar model of the same brand of a friend of mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Get one!, June 28, 2009
By Erick S. (Montclair, VA)
My last floor pump was a Zefal, with a cast metal base, metal tube, and wooden handle. That Zefal was indestructable and solid as a rock. This pump does not quite offer that same solid feel, due to predominantly plastic construction. However, for the price, you won't find quality metal floor pumps.

The quick-release is effective. The action is relatively smooth. The dial is very easy to read, thanks to contrating color.

The only negative is that at the highest PSI ranges, it gives a little resistance and does not feel as forceful as at the lower PSI ranges. But, again, for the money, this is very hard to beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Max air, February 9, 2008
By Trikkeman (Hope Mills, NC)
This pump does the job! I'll admit that I've only used it to pump up the tires on my Trikke cambering vehicle, which, because of their high pressure requirements (90 psi) and small diameter (12 inches), require a topping off periodically. Before Max II I would struggle using a worn out bicycle pump and spend about 15 minutes for the 3 tires, since a lot of air would leak out of them as I removed the hose connection. With Max II, I don't have that problem due to the efficient seal mechanism. Also, I only have to use about 4 to 5 pump actions to get the tires up to 90 psi, whereas I would work up a sweat with my old pump.
Max II's pressure gauge seems to be quite accurate when I check the results with my digital gauge.
I haven't used it for auto or bicycle tires, but it really works great for my Trikke. Also, the storage for extra needles on the base is handy and the clip for the hose makes it easy to carry.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Presta side is useless, June 9, 2009
By Ashegam (USA)
Like P. Bahniuk said in his review, I had a hard time getting this pump to go any further than about 80 psi on my Presta valve tires. It felt as same or worse then pumping up a tire with a portable bike pump. Needless to say this pump is useless for my needs.

Other then this the pump looks solid and very well built, but I can't say much about its durability since I'm returning it the same day I got it.

Again if you have a Presta valve tubes, don't take a chance with this pump. move on to something known to work fine with Prestas.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for small tires, November 16, 2008

The name says: "Bike Pump". I think it would be quite good for that role. I use it on the tires of a motorized wheelchair, which need about 35 lbs. pressure. I am quite satisfied with it for that purpose. This is an excellent pump with a good pressure guage.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Pump compared to what I had, July 19, 2011
By Ron
I had purchased the Schwinn pump which i returned because it would not hold air. I received this pump yesterday and used it on my fixed gear and road bike. Both tires were pumped up easily (presta valve) and i love how the attachment is dual sided for each type of valve. The yellow gauge is large and easy to read. Great pump for the price and easy to use...definitely recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Last 10 psi requires most effort, July 10, 2011
By Anmol
I am a new biker and this is my first hand pump. After I opened the product, it took me a few minutes to figure out how the twinhead connects to presta valve. I had to visit Toepak website -[...] - and watch a video to understand the connection. Once the pump was connected to the valve, it was easy to pump upto 90 psi. 100 to 110 psi required maximum effort. This should not be surprising as the capacity of this pump is only 120 psi. If this product lasts, I won't be disappointed with my purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Use your mouth-it's easier, June 29, 2011
By M. Bartlett (California,USA)
I rarely write reviews but wanted to spare folks the time and expense of ordering this pump. I will be brief and to the point. I am a serious cyclist and buy good equipment. When my old pump gave out- I jumped on Amazon to get a new one- fast !! This one seemed like it would work- dual head, 120 psi max etc. Here's the deal. The dual head is weak and very hard to fit. The lock lever is awkward to use. If you require 120 psi- you are going to have to jump on this to get it there ! This is at best a pump for the beach cruiser and even then the head really makes pumping your tires up more of a task than it needs to be. If you have kids bikes or a beach cruiser- save your self some $$ and go to Walmart. If you are a cyclist- this pump is not for you. Went to my LBS and purchased a serious pump with 160 psi max and smart head for about the same price-works like a dream. Now I have to spend $$ shipping this one back.

I've used quite a few pumps over the years. I must say I am very pleased with this unit. I'm not sure how long it will last. It's mostly made of plastic so don't abuse it but functionally, it works great. It gets a tight seal with little effort and releases smoothly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wish I would have bought this pump right away, May 27, 2010
By R. Morris (Iowa, USA)
This is my third bicycle pump; in the past, I've used a frame pump (which I keep mostly for emergencies since it's difficult to do much else with it), the Schwinn Double Barrel Foot Pump (I'll discuss this one later), and finally this floor pump. This is the best one by far. The foot pump, despite the well respected name, was difficult to use to inflate to higher pressures. The hose would leak at higher pressures, which made it difficult for me to inflate my tires--sometimes I would lose more air than I put in! Additionally, like I said, the frame pump is not typically used as a primary pump (especially for higher-pressure tires).

This pump is different. It is a lot easier to pump than I thought (easier than the foot pump!), it inflates rapidly, and it had no problem reaching the 80 psi I was going for. (It claims to max out at 120, although my experience shows that manufacturers tend to be slightly misleading with these statements. Still, I didn't feel like I was anywhere near the max for this pump when I stopped at 80 like I did with my foot pump, which also claimed 120. However, if you are looking for something approaching 120, you'll probably want to go with a more expensive model than this; I see some rated for 160 and beyond.) Additionally, the gauge seems to be accurate based on my readings with another gauge.

There are both Schrader and Presta heads (no adapter needed, which is also nice), as well as a small bag of accessories for other types of inflatables. Do keep in mind that the picture on Amazon as I write this is angled; the actual pump may be taller than you'd imagine based on that. It also has a sturdy base, which helps it stand on its own as you pump.

After going through other pumps, I wish I would have bought this one first and saved myself the trouble of the others. It is by far my favorite to use of the three I've tried (it's almost fun to do my twice-weekly tire pressure check and inflation--well, compared to the pain of of the others), and I recommend it for someone looking for a good and affordably priced bike pump. It works great for my needs, and it's easy and fast to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Company says Label Misprinted.... NOT a 120 psi pump!, November 6, 2009
By Fitness Freak (Michigan)
Called the company when I had trouble getting more than 90 PSI from this pump. They told me that the label was misprinted! This is a 90 PSI MAX pump, not the 120 PSI printed on the label. These pumps should be recalled!

Also, the connector is a pain. It's difficult to connect a presta valve compare to others I've used (Cannondale).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Needs a little elbow grease, August 7, 2009
By E. Brenner
I am pretty happy with this pump, especially considering all I had before was a little hand pump. Using the presta valve side, I pumped up to 80psi very quickly. Getting up to 100psi took a LOT of effort. I put all 130lbs of my body weight into it and it was extremely difficult, but I got there. I am ok with this because it's a lot easier than my hand pump. Also, I haven't come across any pumps that go to 100+ psi with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A good floor pump, May 25, 2009
By Yo Geek (Upstate NY)
This is a good floor pump for the price. If you use this pump just for normal usage, this is it! Very smooth, and very easy to see the air gage indicator. This pump has two bulbs (French and American). You need to put the lever completely down to the opposite direction to use either bulb properly. Also this pump is equipped with the attachment for balls, although I don't know how it works since I have never tried it.

Overall, this is one of the safest choice.

So today I *try* to use it for the first time. The stupid plastic screw-on ring on the Schrader side of the valve broke as I was operating the locking lever. Of course all the air was let out of my tire by the time!

Don't buy! Total junk! This plastic valve is a weak link in what seems to be an otherwise OK pump design.

I submitted a ticket with the manufacturer. Depending on how they respond, I will update my rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Returned it day I got it!, February 28, 2010
By Mark Schwartz
Disappointing! I couldn't get it to clamp onto the valve stem, and after 20 min of frustration and having all the air released from the tire, I sent it back! It's a shame, I've heard they're good, but I surely couldn't get mine to work, and there's no way I'm going to deal with it everytime I need air!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  bulky, July 20, 2009
By joeboughtit (ny,ny)
Definetly heavy duty, but its bulky. That makes it hard to store and use at times. Make sure you have enough room between the spokes of whatever you are pumping up. For example, the nozzle is too bulky to fit in between the spokes of our stroller. Works fine for the bike. If I had bought an old school pump for [...] I would not have to buy a second one for the stroller.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  A quality pump, great for multiple bikes with different valves, June 11, 2011
By Quinton Baker
There isn't a whole lot to say about this item, mostly because it just a pump.
I use this pump for my 700cc road bike and 26inch hybrid bike... plus footballs and all that fun stuff too.

PROS:
+ Long house that swivels making it rather effortless to get the nozzle on the valve
+ Two sided head means you don't have to switch any parts around to go from presta to schrader
+ Pressure gauge is easy to read
+ Sturdy base means it doesn't tip over as easily as some other (cheaper) pumps
+ Nozzles seem well constructed, won't get torn up like my last pump (the rubber inside the nozzle got torn up from the presta valves)

CONS:
- The handle doesn't feel very solid but it seems sturdy
- Pumping isn't particularly easy, I think a $20 Schwinn pump I picked up at Target may have gotten me to 110 psi easier
- It is relatively difficult to lock the nozzle on the valve, this might get easier as I use it more
- I'm not a huge fan of the looks of it.. but it is just a pump

I've only had the pump for a week or so now, and I'll update this review if I have any problems or if my opinion of it changes.

--UPDATE 6/30/2011--

I don't like this pump much at all anymore. It is too hard to pump above 90 psi... especially when my cheaper floor pump from department store never gave me problems like this. I thought Topeak made some great products, and they might, just this isn't one of them. If you require PSI over 100... or would rather make your workout be on your bike instead of putting air into it, I'd suggest getting a more expensive model from your LBS or Amazon... something that will get up to 160 or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Floor pump, April 12, 2011
By clint
I purchased this after reading other reviews on the Amazon site, as well as watching a video from Bike Man. I really wanted a floor pump rather than a frame mount, since I not only have a mountain bike for my own old bones (61), I don't mind filling up the neighbor kids tires in the spring either. I used to load them all up in my pickup and take them to a local gas station, now I can do that right in my front yard.

I like than a sports ball inflating needle was included, I never can find one when I want my other one.

Good buy all things considered.

Clint.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  A little finicky and not made to last, March 12, 2011
By Megan Hauser (Chicago, IL)
I've had this pump for a little over a year. I was very pleased with it for awhile. It filled tires pretty quickly, and the gauge seemed accurate. One of my friends said they used to have trouble with this pump on Presta valves, but I didn't experience that with the one Presta-valved bike in my household. On the second Presta bike we got, though, the pump just wouldn't work with one of the tires. I had to use a Presta-to-Schrader converter to fill up that tire.

Eventually, I encountered a Park Tools pump at a SAG station on a long bike ride that I was much more impressed with than the JoeBlow. It filled faster and seemed more reliably constructed. In addition, it had a one-sided valve clamp that could accept either Presta or Schrader valves. However, because my JoeBlow was working fine, I wasn't going to spend more to upgrade to the Park Tools pump.

Well, today, my JoeBlow broke. One of the little plastic nubs that holds the plunger onto the metal body snapped off. The stress that this part is put under makes it an unlikely candidate to be glued. I'm going to explore other options for temporarily fixing it, but I'm also going to start looking for a better pump that will last longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak JoeBlow Max II Floor Bike Pump, March 1, 2011
By Dune Dude (San Diego, Ca United States)
It's harder than I thought but then again the amount of air pumped in the tires by this pump is much higher than the amount pumped by the old, ultra-cheap pumps. The different connectors, including the needle for basket/soccer/football balls and adapter for inflatable beds are useful. Good buy, but beware: it will be a good exercise.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Features but Poor Construction, January 28, 2011
By Jason DC (Washington, DC USA)
I have had many pumps in the past where there is an auto sensing nozzle for presta and schrader valves which fails very quickly. I have had a Ravx and Blackburn Air Tower 2 which I replaced the nozzle with the Joe Blow TopPeak Twin Head replacement and love it. I needed another pump and since this seems to be the only brand with the twin head, purchased this pump. Immediately when I received it, I noticed that it was a very poor construction. Be warned, you get what you pay for, or maybe less with this model. The plastic base wobbles and the air gauge is inadequately attached to the pump. It is suspended from the base, but in no way fixed to the pump at the top and twists. Had I known this ahead of time, I would not have made this purchase and looked for another model or brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good basic utility for the bike lovers, January 6, 2011
By Jee-E
A HUGE (and I mean HUGE) but really light box from AMAZON, makes me wondering if they mis-shipped something. :D

The pump is very light and easy to use for a "muscle-less" woman like me and my mountain bike. :D You almost wonder if the company could make the handle and base tilt-able so you can carry it around.

The only reason for the extra star is the connector. NOT EASY to get it off. Have it for three month, and I have to pump in a little extra air in every time, because some will come out during the removal.

Overall, great price for great product. Recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great pump, very efficient!, January 1, 2011
By Brandon (Oregon, USA)
I was using a cheap Bell brand floor pump that was shrader only and very slow. I got this pump after getting a new mtb with 2.5 tires on it and presta valves. Holy crap this thing pumps up a huge downhill tire in just a few pumps. I have no doubt about people saying this will work for car tires. It really moves the air. The gauge is nice and seems accurate as well. Great value and quality like all Topeak product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well Made and Good Deal for the Price, September 30, 2010
By Adam
You can tell the floor pump was made with thought; the air line mounts are placed to where it keeps the pump handle from sliding out when carrying it. For the price it is a well-made, decently heavy duty pump that will not break on you within the first few times of use like some of the cheaper counter parts will. Inflates my mountain bike tires to 60 psi with little effort. Quality purchase and can be used for a lot of different types of inflation.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Gets the job done with some effort, September 25, 2010
By incinerate4505 (CA, USA)
It's a decent air pump. I like the "double head' for presta and schrader, and it comes with both a ball needle and a funny plastic nozzle for bladders, apparently. It pumps up to about 80 psi pretty easily, but getting over 100 psi is a challenge. I don't weigh very much (135 lb), so even when I put my full weight into it (legs dangling in the air and everything) I can only get my tires up to a max of 120psi. But hey, that's good enough for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Product, September 21, 2010
By Repeat Customer (NYC)
Sturdy construction. Good stable base. Comfortable handles for delivering high pressure. Pressure gauge is easy to read and appears accurate. Long, flexible hose allows pump to remain out of the way while accessing valve stem. Universal chuck is convenient although locking lever on the chuck can be a little hard to engage. Works well with both schraeder and presta valves.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Almost as good as my Schwinn from 1974!, August 12, 2010
By Bill (Houston, TX USA)
My 1974 Schwinn air pump had a reservoir which was nice to hold pressure when you remove the pump from the tire valve. Other than that, this pump has it all. It's air volume is very good. About three pumps to fill a brand new 27x1-1/4.

Another unexpected but VERY HANDY feature. This is the first tire pump I've ever had with a long enough hose. It even wraps over the top handle to secure on both sides. Nice.

Amazingly, it even seems to have an accurate gauge. Probably a lucky sample, though. Get a Syracuse gauge to be sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good value, August 2, 2010
By Steve S
This item is much larger than it appears in the picture, but that probably makes it even better. As others have said, it can be difficult to pump beyond 60psi or so, but unless you're using an electric pump it's going to take a little effort no matter what you use. I broke a light sweat getting two tires to 85psi but it wasn't really that difficult. It just works, and that's really all you can ask for a pump at this price point.

By Todd Drefcinski (IL)
I've used this a handful of times to pump up mountain bike tires. I noticed that my conventional dial and digital tire pressure gauges seem to read a different pressure than the gauge on this pump. For simplicity sake, I use the gauge on this pump and have had no issues to date. It's built well for the price and seems to work great for tires that need up to 65psi.

The construction of this pump is great. I prefer the steel body over aluminum. The only weakness is the valve. I also found the presta valve side to be problematic. I quickly replaced the valve and tube with the single/universal valve accessory which is also made by Topeak, called Smarthead.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  easy to use., May 8, 2010
By Steve (Jacksonville, Fl)
I bought this pump at a LBS, and then I read the reviews here, and got worried.

This pump is a decent pump for the money.. I dont know what you guys are talking about how you cant get over 90 psi, it took me like 10 pumps, and it was at 110 psi. It was fine.

The air gauge is about 5-7 psi off, I did check with a calibrated air pressure gauge.

Constructed well, and its stable, it can stand up on its own. I like the 180 degree swivel of the air hose, you arent constantly fighting it.

By John McCarty (New Tripoli, PA USA)
Got a great price and fast delivery from Amazon. The item arrived with a broken top tube cap which I discovered when I inflated my first tire. Instead of returning it, I called the manufacture's Customer Service to ask their advice. A very helpful person asked me to take a picture of the broken part and email it to them along with my local address. I had the new part within a week and it has worked flawlessly ever since. There was no charge for the new part and I did not have to send the old part back.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike pump, February 19, 2010
By Dirty Steve (Santa Monica, CA)
This thing rocks. Very easy to use, but it's kind of scary how many psi you can pump into your bike tires. I actually stopped before hitting the recommended psi pressure of my tires because I thought I was going to end up on TruTV with a horrible reenactment of myself getting smacked in the face with a bunch of rubber. Oh yeah, and 2 days after I finally pumped up my tires, someone jacked them. My first words were, "People still swipe bicycle tires?" Lesson learned, always chain up your stuff, don't be lazy.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak JoeBlow Max II Floor Bike Pump, October 16, 2009
By T. So
Have been using the Max II floor bike pump for about a month now, and it has served me well so far. I like how the pump holds the pressure really well (especially useful near the ~110 psi mark). The gauge is pretty accurate.

The valve lock is pretty tight, but assuring. Overall solid build and pumps very efficiently.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good value for money - but not as good as Sport, September 13, 2009
By A. I. Van Wijngaarden (Eindhoven, Netherlands)
The Max II delivers a good value for it's money, it feels solid and has the ability to pump a considerable pressure with ease. Important for my choice for this product was the feature that you do not have switch heads or anything for different types of tyres (presta/schrader/dunlop) .The pressure gauge can be clearly read and the hose feels sturdy. For my purposes (MTB / Road bike and everyday-use-bike) a very good choice for the money, mostly because you don't have to switch heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great tire pump! -- 6 Month update!, September 28, 2010
By dad who cares (Southwest Florida)
Have owned this great pump for 6 months now and it has worked flawlessly. Easy to use. Do not worry about the reviews that say it is difficult to pump at high pressures, as it is a breeze even at 80 lbs. Very happy with purchase, best bike pump ever!!!

Great pump. I have 2 bikes, both mid priced Schwinns. This pump works fantastic for 50lb and 80lb inflations. Just an easy pump and the pressure goes up 3-5 lbs per pump. Easy great working pump. Pressure indicator is easy to read even with 52 year old eyes. The tire attachment is quick, easy, and does not leak excessive air when unattached.

I spent numerous hours researching great tire pumps, and I am convinced this is the best for the money. Use the pump every two weeks to keep the bike tire pressure in top condition. Great value! I went green 18 months ago when the evil ex-wife took everything, so I very happily just ride a bike these days. That's right, no car for 1 1/2 years and could not be happier.

I live in Florida so it may be easier than in the northern states, but life is great without car payments, license plate fees, insurance costs -- wake up people and enjoy a more simple way of life. Makes me as happy as the carefree college days! If you enjoyed reading this review, please give it a positive comment. Thanks!

Even ride the bike 30 miles, with the help of public transportation (bus with bike racks) to the regional airport. Wow do people look at you funny when you ride to the airport with a backpack and a bike. Time for a different way of living and thinking, and it's great!

In short, since bikes are my only transport, a bike pump is my number one tool. And this is the tire pump that works best. Best wishes to you on your bike riding adventures!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Heavy duty pump that will inflate everything quickly, July 17, 2009
By G. Wilf
I am using this pump mainly for pumping air to the many tires I have: 5 bikes, stroller... and a few balls. The pump works great and easy to operate if you are are over 5 feet and weigh more than 100 lb. I especially like the pump because I need to pump 100+psi to my road bike and this pump completes the task in a few strokes. It supports easy and quick switching between Presta and Schrader and w/o leaks.

Pros:
- Inflates fast
- Once pressure builds up gives quite accurate pressure reading
- Support high pressure tires
- Easy and quick switch between Presta to Schrader valves.

Cons:
- Hard to operate by kids
- Inflating needle is of poor quality (but who cares, needles are cheap)
