4.0 out of 5 stars.  Planet Bike has Awesome Customer Service., March 30, 2008
By PNOLA (New Orleans, LA)
I broke this originally upon receiving it since I didn't understand how to attach it to the valve cap. You partly unscrew the part of the pump that you push into the valve stem, then you screw it back and line up the thingys (you'll see when you get it) and pump it up. After breaking the screwy thingy, I contacted customer service and they sent a new part immediately.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Pump, Confusing to Use, November 25, 2009
By AK Max (Anchorage, AK)
Upon receipt of this pump and mounting on my bike, I decided that I should use it at least once for familiarity lest I be out on the trail in winter trying to figure it out. Damned if I could get it to work. The instructions just didn't add up. Every time I got it on the valve (Schrader) it wouldn't pump and the pressure it created made it just about impossible to remove. I took the valve head apart several times trying to figure out what I was not understanding. After about an hour of fruitless attempts and many disassemblies/reassemblies I finally figured it out. It's so simple I'm embarrassed, but, I thought others might benefit from my tribulations. The secret is that when placing the valve head onto the valve, the "wing" on the head MUST be in the down position, pointing towards the valve/rim. You also must seat the head onto the valve by working it down onto the valve. It's super tight when new. Once seated, rotate the "wing" 180 degrees clockwise till it stops. It should then pump easily. If not, then you haven't got the head far enough down onto the valve. To remove, rotate the "wing" back to the down position to unlock the head from the valve.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not my favorite design, May 5, 2009
By secondadd (Dublin, OH United States)
The previous reviewer is right: you need to unscrew the plastic piece a bit, then attach it, then screw it tight, and then pump. I own this and the Morph G and like the Morph better. I think it pumps better and it has a built-in gauge. The only time I plan to use a frame pump is in an emergency, and in that case it's nice to just have a built-in gauge. A floor pump like the Joeblow Pro imo is lot easier to use if you're checking/filling the tires before going out.

An important thing about this pump is that it attaches to the cup holder screws. The plastic is fairly thick and you may find that the screws to your cup holder aren't long enough to hold both the pump and the cup holder-- it happened to me. It also may get in the way of certain pedals, though I can't say that for sure. The Morph on the other hand may not work with some curved women's frames because there's no good place to attach it.

Planet Bike's customer service is very good and helpful, I just don't think this particular unit is all that great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  WORKS PERFECT IF SET UP RIGHT!, May 10, 2010
By sit2700
Have it for few months now but I never had time to further inpect and this puppy had this problem that the valve black cap kept popping off when pump reached higher pressure besides I had never been able to get above 35 psi with this pump (I assumed that this pump was intended for emergency but not for normal use hence the valve pop and low air pressure capability. Boy, I'm glad that I was wrong!)
Tonight, before jumping ship to buy another mini pump (I was contemplating to get the well reviewed Topeak Morph G) but upon closer inspection of my Mini Versair, I realized it was minor manufacturing error that could be remedied by users.
The following steps can be done to correct said problem (if yours has one) and your Mini Versair will work as it should:
1- Have entire valve housing face up
2- Remove valve threaded plastic black cap
3- Pull out black valve seal tubing and make sure that the Shrader type (bigger hole) is facing the opening then push it back in
4- Turn bottom half with wing (lock handle) while pressing the valve seal to find the lowest point that seal tubing retract (lock handle's wing is usually at 1/4 turn or horizontal position to get seal tubing at lowest retract position)- At this point, if your seal tubing opening is sticking out above the threaded housing, this is the culprit!
5- Use a fresh razor blade and carefully trim off that excess of seal tubing (use valve housing opening as guide - must be a very clean cut for good seal)so as tubing opening wall to be EVEN with housing opening mouth
6- Put valve cap back on (remember to have the seal smaller hole toward opening if you use Presta valve) - by now, the cap must be able to be tightened all the way down to the base of housing thread (do not over tighten or you may strip the plastic thread)
7- With valve lock still at 1/4 turn position, place pump valve onto tire's valve, push down firmly until snug (if tire is totally deflated, you have to counter push from tire bottom to prevent tire valve to retract), turn lock handle either L or R until stop when it hits the stopper, start to pump (it should feel that the air flows in freely - otherwise, give lock handle 1/4 turn to disengage then push valve further down and lock. It should be OK now!)
8- To remove, just turn lock handle to disengage then pull valve off (sometimes, this needs quite a tug to get it off) - I dont't think there's a need to toy around w valve cap to get good seal for the pump to work as stated by some reviewers (please correct me if I'm wrong here)
NOW, I'M IN LOVE WITH MY MINI VERSAIR ALL OVER AGAIN!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Only for emergencies, March 3, 2010
By T. Leonard (Stone's Throw Outside Chicago)
The build quality is good but using it is a little ackward. Definately to be used only in an emergency. Due to it being so compact makes it great but therefore on the flip-side it is hard to pump efficiently when using it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The best mini pump you can buy, April 19, 2009
By Mr. Ah Clem (Green Bay)
Planet Bike does it again! The best small pump, hands down! Use in hand or flip down the foot hold. Pumps on up and down strokes to 160psi, fully rebuildable! Great price on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  best underrated pump - ordering my second, April 4, 2009
By C. Barnes (birmingham,al)
I LOVE this pump. It fits in the pump port of my camelback lobo perfectly, and in my jersey pocket if i'm riding the road bike. Very light and small enough for me. Features all the goodness of the more popular topeak mountain morph - dual action, hose rather than direct attachment(easy on your valves), fold out foot stand. I've used this pump for 5 years thru much abuse(more on that later). I finally broke the main cylinder port yesterday(I wasn't even on the bike!), and there's one sitting in my amazon cart as I type this.

I think Planet Bike is one of the coolest companies I've dealt with. To try and help avoid having customers simply buy a new pump every few years when their pump wears out(and clutter up the landfills with old pumps) they sell rebuild kits for all their pumps for very cheap. I made use of this feature twice over the life of this pump. I've also broken a part on my pump that wasn't availble for rebuild, and their customer service sent me the part free of charge with free shipping and I was back in business. Hard to beat that in this day and age when customer service seems to be a lost art.

I think my most recent incident has fatally wounded my beloved pump(although I'm still going to see if customer service can do something...I've already been surprised once!), and I'm ordering a replacement with no hesitation to get me on back on the trail. What else can give you 5 years of amazing service for 20 bucks?

Top notch product.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Leaks in 2 places., May 10, 2012
By John Braun (Earth)
When placed on the valve, the pump leaks at the head and at the hose connection. Fail. The footpeg however is durable and the double action is fast.
