3.0 out of 5 stars.  Spectra 360 and Buh-Bump, May 11, 2009
By rjemmons (NJ USA)
I have tried both Spectra 360 gel (about $9 for 8.5 oz) and Buh-Bump cream (about $7.50 for 2.5 oz) to improve the functioning of my heart rate monitor (HRM) chest strap. I prefer Spectra 360. Both products provided a good stable connection and heart rate readings. Spectra is a substantial clear gel that adheres well when you apply it to the chest strap. Buh-Bump is a thin liquid cream that tends to run and drip off the chest strap. Spectra cost me about $1/oz while Buh-Bump cost about $3/oz.

I need a reliable HRM reading because I use a treadmill program which sets the treadmill speed based on my heart rate. If my chest strap does not make a good connection, the heart rate reading jumps around, and the treadmill goes a little berserk trying to get my heart rate reading to the target rate.

Both products provided a good HRM chest strap connection, but Spectra 360 was cheaper and easier and more pleaseant to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  At last, one of them works., March 13, 2007
By Th Papageorgiou (Athens, Greece)
I can not write English well, so I write the conclusion only.
I have tried a lot of gels and creams for my Polar chest strap, which I use with my Tunturi treadmill in HRC programs.
Till now, I had used several gels and creams, but they were not successfull for the job. The treadmill showed much more beats and so, the machine slowed down and the program did not work.
Now things chavged. I see 500+ calories burnt and 7Km distance, while with the other products, I saw 350calories and 5.5Km, at the same time interval.(1 hour).
Now, I add this for better results.
I use two pieces of cotton cloth cut to fit the electrode side of the strap, which ,(the cloth),I immerse in water first, and put them on the electrode side of the strap, putting some cream on both sides of the cloth.
This makes the surface moisture more time, so the system works very well.
With the addition of the cloth, I would put a 5 to rate the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good stuff, March 18, 2007
By CB (Maine)
I had been having problems with my heart rate monitor readings dropping out during mid-exercise so I decided to try electrode cream to see if it would help. Using Buh bump solved the problem. I haven't had the problem with drops outs or crazy spikes in my heart rate monitor since I started using the cream. I only need to use a little bit of it on each electrode so the 2.5 oz size should last for quite awhile. The stuff has a nice clean scent as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works really well!, October 10, 2007
By Gerrit Wessendorf (Baltimore, MD)
I experienced some really annoying misreadings and drop-outs with my Polar CS300 and first thought there was a problem with my heart rate monitor. But when I gave the cream a try all my problems magically disappeared. The heart rate monitor manuals and faq's should link to this page :)
Love it.

Made my sometimes erratic heart rate monitor behave...I get more out of my workouts and it smells nice, not overwhelming.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is the best, April 29, 2008

This cream is the best. Works much better than having to "wet" the sensors and it has a pleasant scent.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, August 24, 2008
By alwaysreading
I had problems with the reading dropping off or not reading at all when I ran. I thought my HRM needed a new battery but I came across this and decided to try it. Well, it worked great! My readings haven't dropped since regardless of which exercise I am doing. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great and last all day, May 4, 2008
By J. Mijares (San Francisco, CA)
Ever since I started using this electrode cream, I haven't had any signal drops with my heart rate monitor. I can wear it all day, and even in martial arts class, and my heart rate monitor quite literally doesn't miss a beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect! Thank you, January 16, 2010
By Doron Avizov (New York)
When I do get a small window to work out, I don't have time to waste to get my heart rate monitor to work. Water usually works but when it doesn't I can waste 1/2 my workout trying to get the device to read my pulse. I found Spectra 360 Electrode Gel to be only slightly better than water. Buh-Bump cream, on the other hand, works perfectly every time, no issues ever. It takes so little to work the tube should last a long time. I highly recommend this stuff for use with heart monitors.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Soild product, works as advertised, March 25, 2010
By Ward Reed (Homestead FL)
I've been using HRMs for the last 15 or so years, and I've always had better luck when I used gels. I've used both this and Spectra Gel, and I like this product better. It reminds me of (and probably is the same thing as) the gel that I used to use to attach the chest leads of an ECG machine to patients in the days before disposable pads.
This is somewhat more expensive than Spectra Gel (it works fine too), but you don't nearly need as much. Just a small dab on each side of the transmitter works fine. Spectra needs two or three times as much. Net: price per use is about the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Disappointed, September 14, 2009
By WorldTraveler (Texas)
I was very disappointed with this product. There was no monitor reading at all until I had worked up a good sweat and then there was a greasy stain left on the shirt I was wearing. Simply putting a drop of water on the monitor before putting it on worked much better for me than using this product. I haven't tried any other similar products, so I have nothing to compare this to; but if, as others say, this is better than the other available products, I guess I will stick with water.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awsome Product! Lasts forever and works great!, May 14, 2010
By Helo Bubba (San Diego)
Ensures good signal even on icy cold days when no sweat is available to get a signal. I use it every ride on my Garmin HRM strap. Works perfectly every time.
One note: When traveling to a higher altitude to start a ride or run, be sure to stand the tube cap side up and/or crack the screw top a tiny bit to prevent a flood of pressurized goo.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, April 8, 2010
By JMP (Ohio)
I bought a heart rate monitor and was having problems waiting for a reading. Even with using water on the strap I would have to work up a sweat for almost 5 minutes before I got a reading. I read the reviews on the monitor and someone suggested this product and I bought it and was really happy with it.

It doesn't have a nasty smell and isn't greasy. Simply rinse the chest strap off after your workout like usual and it rinses right off. You just need a small dab on each sensor and I have had this tube for almost a year and still have almost half of it left so the stuff will last you a long time. I usually get a reading within 30 seconds of putting the strap on now.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, December 10, 2009
By Bob Lee (Mena, Arkansas)
I was a little skeptic at first, but this stuff actually works really well. If you want your HR monitor to work before you really work up a good sweat, this stuff is great. Water only works for so long, and this is much better. If you always warm up really good, and are sweating before you turn your HR monitor on then this stuff likely won't do much for you. The HR straps usually work good once you are constantly sweating.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It works, November 18, 2009
By Remydog (Near Boston, MA)
It's electrode cream. There's not really much to say. But I have used my polar heart rate monitor without it and there is no question that it works much better than saliva or waiting for enough sweat to build up to make a connection. Just a dab will do ya.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Way better than spit., May 11, 2011
By E. Byers (The Midwest)
I used to find some water, or more than likely just use some spit on my heart rate monitor strap.

It worked, but not all that well. I just got used to not having data for the first 5 minutes of my run. Then I found buh-bump. It lets the heart rate monitor work immediately, gives a bit of lubrication, and your heart rate strap won't get full of funk.

I used it 2-3 times a week for nearly a year, and there is still some in the bottle. Seems to also keep pretty well.

Sure it's a few extra bucks and more hassle, but just put it next to your shoes or something, get it into your routine, and you'll be glad.

Not much you can say except my HR monitor quickly picks up a signal when I use this product and it does run. Definitely know my HR strap/monitor perform better with it than without.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty amazing stuff, February 24, 2011
By Blowfish (United States)
As others, I couldn't get my Polar RS400 to get readings, even after just getting it back from repair - with a new chest strap. Even when I got readings, they would drop out. After I got this cream, voila. Works so good!!! I can't believe it! I am so impressed! After struggling with washing the strap religiously and still getting dropped readings, I am so relieved to have found a solution. It's also nice how the cream seems to disappear after it's on the skin/chest strap for a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, January 4, 2011
By JMordo (Mesa, AZ, USA)
Seems to help the heart rate pick up in dry conditions (until you get sweaty, and then that takes care of it). I've used just regular lotion before, I think this leaves less residue.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  HRM Cream, March 30, 2009
By RTG (Pittsburgh, PA)
This product is easy to use and does indeed increase the ability of the HRM to receive your pulse. Unfortunately, however, I still get dropped heart rate readings when I am in full out running mode. My heart rate signal gets picked up again when I slow down to a walking pace.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Product; Great Service, February 22, 2009
By space man (Albuquerque, NM)
I have used this product before for my heart rate monitor (HRM). I works much better than just water or saliva. it takes a little more effort to clean off; but the effort is well worth it in my opinion.

This is the first time I ordered through Amazon; previously I had ordered it direct. Not only is the price a little better through Amazon, but the ordering and delivery process couldn't have been easier.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  will not fix a broken monitor, August 31, 2008
By Sharps (Illinois)
Unlike many other reviews, the heart rate monitor cream did not solve my problem. I continued to not get a signal in the middle of my workouts after purchasing both the cream and a tighter strap. I finally had to just buy a new watch and monitor and have not had a problem since.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works, September 25, 2011
By WJM
I purchased this to improve the conductivity/connectivity of my Suunto HR monitor chest strap. Overall, I noticed a significant improvement and now use it everyday/everytime I use my HR monitor. It did not fix the connectivity 100% of the time but there was a noticeable increase. I would highly recommend this product. I have used this for over a month now. It is reasonably priced and a tube will likely last me 6 months or greater using it 6 to 7 days per week.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Buh-Bump is the solution, May 23, 2012
By ET
I decided to try this product to see if it would cure erratically high HR read-outs from my Garmin HRM. These would usually occur early in a run and sometimes last for one or two kilometres until I'd worked up a good sweat. On cold/dry days I'd often get erratic readings at other points during a run.

To my delight, Buh-Bump works! I now get nice smooth HR traces from the start to the finish of a run. One thing though, both contacts of the chest strap need a good cover of the cream (which is not a lot - usually two small dabs of what would fit on the end of a finger is enough for each side. I just make a 'line' of cream on each contact of the strap then take care when putting on the strap.

I ordered 2 tubes from Amazon and they arrived in a week from the U.S. (to Australia), so good service from Amazon. I'll buy this product again.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Efficient but beware !, March 21, 2012
By Jean Leon
This product has improved the efficiency of my heart rate monitor. The unit works all the time and not only part of the time like before.
But you have to be careful when spreading it on you chest belt. It's very easy to get way to much, enven with a light sueeze of the tube.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The only HR cream for me., October 22, 2011
By Charlie Brown
I discovered this years ago and after trying cheap imitations, I finally stuck with what works.
I live in a cold, dry windy area where my HR monitor would give terrible readings before using this.
Now I use it every time I ride my bike and my HR monitor always works flawlessly.
