5.0 out of 5 stars.  quick and easy, March 26, 2009

Good product and good price. These are very quick and easy to use. All 3 use the same key, which is very convenient.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product for the money, August 26, 2009
By Cameo (Brookfield, MA)
I didn't want to invest in anything too expensive for mine and my children's bicycles so I figured I'd give this 3-pack a shot. With one universal key (you get multiples but they are interchangeable) for all three it's super convenient. They work great with no defects and the colors are vibrant. A great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  fine for the price and purpose, January 27, 2010
By M. S. Lee (Fremont, CA United States)
The description says 10mm thick cord, but it's not so- maybe half of that. Right, I wasn't careful to see the 3/8 inch written before that. So it's probably not useful to protect against someone prepared to steal bikes, but good enough for me with my cheap bike in safe neighborhoods and short periods of time. The extra keys are helpful, since my last lock became useless after I lost the one key. The positions of the hole for the key and the hole for the cord end seem like they might be better reversed, but I can deal with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  No Security Lock, July 19, 2010
By Me
This lock does not provide any security. My bicycle was stolen in broad daylight from outside my office building. Apparently any thief can buy this same lock at the store and unlock your lock with the key. Bright colored coating draws attention to your bike to make it easy to be stolen this way. I now lock my new bike with a kryptonite U lock!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike lock/cable, June 7, 2010
By elnina (San Antonio, Texas)
"If you're not on your bike, make sure we are. Thieves will take the path of least resistance. Pack of three, keyed alike six foot cables are ideal for bicycles, skateboards and sports equipment."

Nice feature for the thieves:

I found this item (exactly the same) in Wal-Mart. They had 5 sets on the shelf.
The set of keys did fit 4 of 5 other sets of locks too.
So much of protection... :(

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The price tag makes this a STEAL!, October 27, 2010
By Sleepy
I had a combo cable lock, Krytonite brand before I bought this. I bought it for around $10 in a bike shop cause I wanted to lock my front wheel, it wasn't heavy duty, just as thick as these locks. That combo lock broke off somehow while I was riding my road bike..probably because of vibration in the combo pad??..I really don't know, but that made me think, wow, bike store sold me some crap. So I had to find a new cable lock to lock my bike component(s), and after searching, I found this.

First off, you get 3 CABLE LOCKS as shown in the picture. 3 Locks, 3 KEYS, 1 Key can open all 3 locks. The quality feels really good, and it looks good too! It locks w/o u having to use the key, so its much quicker if your in a rush to lock and go. Its color coated, so you can use 1 that matches your bike. Did I forget to mention you get 3 cable locks?! $12 and free shipping, you cannot go wrong, you will not find this deal ever in bike stores. You can lock whatever components to the frame of your bike! It is long enough to lock around my front and rear rim (27inch wheels)and I think about a feet longer then my old combo pad lock I had.

My local bike shop tried to charge me $30 for a single, "heavy duty" cable lock, generic cable lock. That is ridiculous. At metro bicycles I got a OnGuard U-lock for that much, which will easily beat ANY cable lock. If you reading this, NEVER lock your bike w/ just a cable lock. Cable locks are used to lock your bike COMPONENTS to your frame or pole, You lock your bicycle with a U-LOCK or Heavy Duty CHAIN! You will find your bike gone if you just use a cable lock, any cable lock will get snap easy no matter how heavy duty it is.

Anyway, this is a great deal you won't find in bike stores. I know from experience, they charge ALOT. I end up leaving not buying anything and going on amazon to order something, because their prices are ridiculous.

You won't regret buying this, you'll be able to secure all your "quick release" bike components :).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great package deal!, April 21, 2010
By D. Porter (UT USA)
I bought these locks for my kids to use at school. They are a nice looking and functional way to secure school bikes. I particularly like the interchangeable keys. The new rule in our house is "if you loose your key, don't call home, find your brother". They work fine, even my 6-year old can lock and unlock his bike.

I almost didn't buy these because of the comments about cable size here on Amazon. If you have some zillion dollar bike you probably want a thicker stronger cable, maybe with GPS tracking and some of those dye-packs that tellers throw in with the cash in bank robberies. These locks are extremely strong, no one is going to break them without serious bike-theft tools. They will certainly deter any but the most ambitious, professional and prepared thief.

This product lasted one night before somebody came by and smashed it with a hammer and stole my bike. Should have know better than to use a product that could be cut with standard garden shears.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for the price, August 23, 2010
By Bill R. (Greenwich, CT)
I am sure the locks would't prevent a determined theif but really that's not what they are designed for. If you are looking for an inexpensive lock to serve as a deterent then this is the lock for you. 3 locks for the price is a good deal. The locks share a common key which is VERY useful if the bikes being locked up belong to your children as this way you don't have to carry around several keys or worry about losing one of them. I put one of these on my car keyring and could unlock or lock the bikes up whenever I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Plenty of locks and keys for the absent professor, July 31, 2010
By Kenpo Elmo (U.S.A.)
I really love this item. Comes with three cable locks and plenty of keys. Great thing about the keys is that every key fits in every lock. You don't have to worry about trying to find the right key for the right lock. They all fit! The cables are thin enough to wrap around almost anything. I have put them through little slits in fences, little slits in trash cans in front of stores, etc. Thin yet thick enough to stop the casual thief. I feel very comfortable when I wrap one of the cables around my bike and go into a store or a supermarket. If you want to be extra careful, you can always wrap more than one cable around your bike when you leave it for awhile. The cables are pretty light. The cables also go easily back into the shape that you see in the picture. I take it off my bike after going into a store and the cable returns to the shape you see in the picture. It then easily fits in my small fanny pack that I keep at the back of my bike seat. I stop in front of a store, open my zipper on my fanny pack located on the back of my bike seat and take out the cable. I then wrap the cable around the bike and whatever I'm connecting the bike to. I come out of store, unlock cable and the cable returns to the shape you see in the picture and then I easily put it in my fanny pack. It doesn't get any easier or more convenient. Key always fits easily in the lock. Hope this helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  8mm not 10mm as advertised, January 29, 2010
By Sidewinder (Tampa, FL)
Just received and found its 8mm not 10mm as advertised. Right on the back of the cardboard box it says 6' (1.8m) , 5/16" (8mm) diameter. These look much thinner than my 10mm cable. Needless to say these will be going back. I gave 2 stars as problem is with Amazon description and not necessarily a fault of the item.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Too Easy to Cut, February 28, 2012
By SDS (Washington, DC)
I bought these cables knowing they were too thin for locking a bike in a dangerous area, but I thought my bikes would be safe on my front porch. WRONG! All three were cut by someone in the middle of the day, costing me a lot of money to replace the bikes, and forever giving my spouse ammunition to use against me. My family has lived in the house for 40 years. We have had bikes stolen off the front porch before, so I wasn't kidding myself about neighborhood safety. But I did hope the cables would have a deterrent effect. Now, I'm shopping for stronger cables. SIGH.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great deal for medium security, March 4, 2011
By Bo88y
One bike expert online suggests using a lightweight lock for doing quick errands, and a big, heavy U-lock for long-term parking. If you're ducking in and out of stores on streets with a lot of pedestrian traffic, you don't need more than these inexpensive, lightweight locks. One of these will prevent a crime-of-opportunity that might occur to an unlocked bike, and takes up only a small space in your backpack or bike bag. Using one in addition to the big U-lock for long-term parking makes your bike just a little bit more difficult to steal than any others in the vicinity, and requires different tools than the U-locks, and this might improve your odds of keeping your bike.
- Just be sure to insert the tang firmly into the receptacle, until it clicks, when you lock it up.
- The keys have bulky plastic handles, so I put one in a vise and cut along the metal part to remove the plastic, and drilled a hole in the end of the metal part. Though shorter than a full-sized key, it fits on my key ring without adding much bulk in my pocket. The bulkiness of the keys are the only complaint I have with these locks.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great price, March 7, 2011
By Anthony D.
We have two bikes that we needed locks for, so having an extra lock, especially for the price seemed like a great idea. Little did we know that there would be a "bike bandit" in our building a month later that would try to saw through the lock and steal one of our bikes. He had already stolen 4-5 other bikes, but apparently this lock was good enough to make him take so much time that he got caught! He was only using a (admittedly large) kitchen knife, but seeing the work he put into it, I'm happy with my purchase.

Also, if anyone needs a half-sawed-through red cable lock... :)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great deal for the price, September 5, 2010
By Gordon L Pratt (New York, NY United States)
I bought these locks because I needed 2 locks for the bikes my wife and I purchased. I obviously only needed 2 locks but these cost less than buying 2 individual locks. They store easily in our underseat bags and are simple to use. All 3 locks are keyed the same which was fine for us, but you may need them keyed differently in which case you should consider another lock.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good deal. Ease of use., July 26, 2011
By Nuknuk (Springfield, VA United States)
My son wanted something to give him some peace of mind when he goes to his friends on his new bike. I saw this 3-pack set and thought it was a good deal.

To use this product, all you have to do is wrap the chain around the bike and a post. There are 3 chains and 3 keys; Any of the keys will work with the three chains so it doesn't matter if you accidentally mixed them up. The chains are wrapped in plastic hose tubes in 3 different colors. The hoses cover the bare chains to prevent scratching the paint of his new bike.

One thing to bear in mind. This is not a foolproof way of protecting your bike. Any determined thief who has the right tools will have no problem taking your bike. But if he has a choice and see your bike with a chain on it, he will probably pass on to the next bike for an easier ride. Also, most of the times, it just another kid who wants to swipe your bike for a joy ride in the neighborhood and leave it in middle of the park.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for kids!, June 16, 2011
By Julieboston
My 5 year old rides his bike up to kindergarten, so I needed a lock that was simple and fun, with a key. He loves this lightweight lock! The three identical keys (instead of just one) are very necessary as one has already gone missing. He keeps his key on a wrist key chain throughout the day, which makes him feel like a big kid! The three colors are vibrant and the lock itself is easy for a little guy to use. The price was definitely reasonable. A great product!

The keys aren't horrible, either. I use two of the three that I received, for extra security. A big bonus is that they match the colors of my bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Zero Stars actually, January 15, 2012
By brkr12002 (Dallas, Texas)
Bought this because i have a masterlock steering wheel lock for my daily driver classic car. Figured I know the name. Bike was stolen from a Target bike rack. Cable either was cut or like some of these reviews say, keys are pretty universal. Just glad my bike was only about $300 with accessories compared to what some people pay for bikes. Major inconvenience have to get a new bike and better lock. Avoid these cheap cable locks always use your quick release features on your wheels and seats.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  OK for $4 each, December 5, 2011

Made in China.
They work.
Thick enough cable.
Not too heavy for a bike bag.
They have nice colors.

The mechanisms don't work smoothly like a fine time piece, but I think they will serve the purpose. I believe most bike thieves are just looking for unlocked bikes. I have had to cut through a cable this size before, and it takes a while. Also with no padlock the only choice is to cut through the cable so a bolt cutter won't help too much.

Can't say about the quality of the steel or plastic housing.
