Mine broke and tossed my kanteen, April 14, 2009
By W. Gottlieb (NYC)
|
|
It felt cheap and too flexible when I installed it, but I went ahead anyway. From the get-go it rattled and shook with a full 27 oz-er while going over anything but pristine pavement. The other day it seemed to be looser than usual and I had to stop and tighten it. Soon after, I hit a moderate bump and the kanteen was flung from the cage, cascading into traffic and acquiring a severe dent along its journey. Upon further inspection the cage had significant cracking and splitting of the plastic around the mounting holes. What a piece of junk. It's clear nobody bothered to test it.

Keeps dropping my Klean Kanteen, September 18, 2008
By B. Waddington (Rochester NY)
|
|
My main problem with the design is that it keeps dropping my bottle, I'm a pretty active biker and I can't count the number of times I've been going down a hill only to have my Klean Kanteen completely fall out. On the other hand it is essentially the only game in town, so take that as you will.
I love my Klean Kanteen, pretty iffy on the bike cage

Serves it's purpose, could be designed better, June 22, 2008

When I saw that the Klean Kanteen company was backordered on the bike cages, and then Amazon started to carry them, it became clear to me that they were a hot item and I needed to buy some. I went out and purchased 3. I recently installed one of them in the primary bottle cage position (on the diagonal bar) and went to install my original bike cage that came with my bike on the vertical bar. i was struck with surprise that i could not fit the smaller bike cage onto the vertical bar b/c the klean kanteen bike cage was blocking it. i understand that they want to make this fit the majority of bikes, however the designers of it should have taken into consideration that many people have 2 water bottle bike cages on their bike. in my opinion, there should have been more selections for positioning, where as right now there are 2 slits which give some wiggle room, but not enough.
another suggestion is more about their manufacturing process. they need to taper or round off the edges of the top portion of the bike cage because they are tearing away at my 27oz bottle. all it would take is a better design of the mold, or a post-manufacturing process to file down the edges.
other than that, it's a great and cheap way to hold my klean kanteen water bottle. now...wouldn't it be sweet if they made a thin walled hydration-pak? it would obviously be heavier than a camelbak hydration pak, but thin walled stainless steel is pretty light and they could make it built into the back of the backpack. just an idea...

Dissapointing!, April 30, 2011
By Laura Jensen

After I replaced my beat up BPA lined SIGG water bottle with a beautiful blue Kleen Kanteen, I purchased this bike cage for it to keep it looking nice. I always carry my water with me and bike with it every day, so i thought that this plastic cage would protect it from scratches and would hold it securely on my commute. It attached easily to my bike and seemed to be a great fit for the Kleen Kanteen. The very first day i used it, I arrived at school to discover that the cage had already scratched the paint completely off the bottle in a couple of places, and scratched it up around the bottom. Bummer! Every time I use it it mars the finish even more.
To add insult to injury (or maybe the other way round?) I was biking the other day and hit a modestly sized pothole -- 1-2 inches deep -- and the water bottle was flung from my bike to the road into traffic. When I managed to turn back and get it, I found it badly beaten and scratched. My poor water bottle looks like it has been to hell and back in one and a half short months, thanks to this terrible holder. Not worth the investment. I would have been better off saving my money and cramming my new bottle into the aluminum cage I already had.

Works Great, November 11, 2010

This thing is great. Some reviews mentioned sharp edges scuffing the Kanteen, so I knocked the corners down with some sand paper. It's been great.

Close but not cigar, August 27, 2010

I wanted a bottle cages on my road bike so I did not have to carry my hydration pack since it is a pain to clean, so I purchased two of those bottle cages because I already have two 27oz KK and it will give it a try.
When I received them they looked solid and well made. I was not sure about the open design of the cage.
The instalation process was somewhat of a pain but that was due to the choice of the tools and setup of my bike(For most of the maintenance I use a multi tool and I could not find right alen key in my house so I had to use that)
Then I took it for a spin with two full KK, and I was some what disappointed.
Two full 27 KK works well on longer 60-80k rides on 100F weather, but they are quite heavy, and while on a climb or a sprint out of saddle they wobble like crazy to the point that it hit side of my knee and rattle like a rattle snakes on all bumps.
And they scratch your KK like crazy even the plain ones (Don't even think about putting a colored one in it.
Overall product is good but it is not perfect. It would be perfect for some slow crusing/comutting not for a more spirited rider.

Needs redesign, November 14, 2009
By J. Carothers
|
|
This cage has two fatal flaws: 1) its hard plastic edges and surface scrape the paint off of your beautiful Klean Kanteen water bottle, and 2) it needs more mounting hole positions. In addition, it is aesthetically unappealing. A simpler, cleaner look, with rubberized aluminum, might address the two issues.

It works, September 4, 2009

It holds my klean kanteen bottle nicely. With the new sport cap 2.0 (the water comes out much faster/easier than with the old sport cap) on my bottle, my klean kanteen now works well when riding my bike.

Does the job, June 17, 2011

Installation on to my bike was easy. The cage seems to hold my Klean Kanteen securely. I have done a bit of in-town riding, and the bottle hasn't flown out like it did with my old cage. I don't know that I would trust it for off-road riding, but realistically, I wouldn't trust ANY bottle cage heading up a mountain. It would be nice if the plastic was a little thicker, hence the 4 stars.

What else is to be said? Fits the 28oz kleen kanteen. I have one of these on each of my bikes, and after three years of use they are both fine.

sleek style, November 19, 2010
By vintage_cooper (California)

The Klean Kanteen water bottle bike cage is great. It has a close grip which is great for keeping my bottle from moving around and getting the paint scratched off. However their website dose not recommend using this item with a painted bottle because it will eventually remove the paint. I have been using this item daily for the past 3 months and haven't had an issue. The styling is great; slim and sleek not at all bulky like typical bottle cages.

klean kanteen bike cage for 27 oz. water bottle, October 3, 2009
By L. Hoh

The bike cage works fine. I have had no problems with the bottle falling out. You do have to be a little careful when taking the bottle out of the cage so as not to clank it against your bike... but it's not that big of a deal.

Works great for what its designed for!, August 19, 2009

After reading the other reviews I felt I also needed to share.
This water bottle cages works great for the 27oz Klean Kanteen bottles. Its NOT loose and the kanteen fits perfect, no jiggling. The plastic is kinda thin but if you slide the kanteen out and not yank it out the cage will be fine.

works great, unsure about durability, May 27, 2009
By Donovan (San Diego, CA USA)

This does exactly what it's supposed to. Installation was a snap with the built-in screws on my bike. The bottle pops in securely and stays put.
It's made of plastic, and the plastic is a little thin, so I'm a little worried about long-term durability, but so far so good.
From the picture I thought the front was solid, so I wasn't sure how the bottle would go in, but the "arms" don't meet, so they open as you shove the bottle in.

These are very nice and hold the Klean Kanteen water bottle perfectly. It is easy to get the bottle out too, but secure enough that it won't fall out when mountain biking. Very quick delivery.

Does the job, July 16, 2009
By Matty (philly)

Works well and holds the 27oz. bottle pretty securely. The plastic is rather thin so I wouldnt expect it to last as long as the Kanteen but for the price its not a bad deal. One problem is that it alittle tough to get the Kanteen out of the holder without hitting the bike. Over time this could nick up the paint on the bike but if you are careful in removing the bottle it shouldnt be a problem.

Klean Kanteen Water Bottle Bike Cage for 27-Ounce Bottles
I have used this product for over a month now and I do not have any complaints. The product is well made and fits my Klean Kanteen water bottle like a glove.
I would perhaps like for the manufacturer to consider making the product in metal, which is more sturdy, IMHO.

KLEAN KANTEEN WATER BIKE CAGE=EXCELLENT!, April 3, 2010
By LOVE TO READ (Florida)

This water bottle cage is perfect. I have had mine for a year now (I ride with 2) and have had NO PROBLEMS with the cages. They are made from HARD plastic (I think), and are very durable. Another plus, is that they are cool looking. Mine came with the name BAT CAGE on it! I use TREK and CAMELBAK plastic 24oz. bottles for mine, and they are easy on the cage. Meaning, the bottles give a bit when I take them from the cage. My bottles are insulated so everything works out cool...literally!

Great Bottle, September 23, 2008
By D. J. Nigro (NYC)

I like this a lot, especially when comparing it to plastic, stainless steel just seems much cleaner. The only drawback is in learning how to use the cap. Because the bottle is not plastic, you can't squeeze it, so you have to use the special cap and it's really just a matter of getting used to it.

plastic is very poor., March 29, 2012
By douglas juhola (Parker, Co USA)

I bought these bottle carriers, since I really like the bottles. make no mistake, the cages are NOT the same build quality as the bottle! I bought 4 of these for a long distance expedition bike and within 100 miles of use, (about 2 days use for me) 2 of them are broken beyond usability and 1 is cracked.
buy the bottle, and then get a decent stainless steel bottle cage from amazon or your local bike shop.

Flimsy & flexible -- drops the bottle, breaks, October 19, 2011
By Joseph Morris (Berkeley, California)

This is not a well designed product. There are three problems: 1) when riding with pants and no bottle in the cage, one's pant cuffs tend to hook on the cage. This can be fixed by tying up both pants legs. Normally I'd just use one pants-leg tie for the chain side, but when using this cage empty I need two. Annoying. (2) It is very flexible and doesn't hold the bottle firmly. I hit a pothole once and the cage let go of the bottle, dropping it onto the street. That Kanteen now has a few giant dents in it. 3) It's fragile. After about six months of use, mine broke when my shoulder bumped into it while I was carrying my bike up some stairs from a subway -- again dropping and further denting my Kleen Kanteen, and worrying pedestrians below me on the stairs. Maybe these are ok for smooth road riding, but they're not up to urban commuting. I'd love to bring my Kanteen with me while biking, but this is not the way to do it.
