Finally a humidifier I like!, February 25, 2007
By Music

I have been through about 4-5 humidifiers in the last couple of years. My main complaints were noise (especially the boiling sound of the warm mist types), dirtiness after a few days of operation, and difficulty cleaning units. I decided to take another gamble with this humidifier--and it really paid off. I was afraid that the recirculating feature would be just another gimmick, but I can certainly tell the difference.
Pros:
Easy to fill
Easy to clean
Weekly cleanings are fine--could probably even go longer
The machine doesn't seem to get very dirty--recirculating water keeps deposits from forming
Humidifies the air well
Quiet operation (just the sound of the fan)
Long filter life
Cons:
Can't really think of any other than I can't buy the filters locally
I highly recommend this product!

Be careful!, December 11, 2009

This humidifier worked great...when it worked properly. It has sprung a leak on us a couple times, luckily we noticed it as soon as we turned it on. Last night, we were not so lucky and about an hour after we had turned it on, I noticed the carpet all around it was SOAKED. There is a section underneath the refill window where two pieces of plastic come together...that is where the water would leak from. It was not every time we ran it, but after last night and it soaking our carpet, it is being returned! It was nice when it worked, especially nice feature to refill it from the top, but we clearly received a defective one! I have also wondered from the beginning whether we received a 'new' or returned humidifier...filter was not nice and white/clean!

Like it a lot, January 28, 2008

I've had a lot of crappy humidifiers in all price ranges, but this one seems to do what it's supposed to do. It's been on constantly now for a month, and seems to be pumping out ample humidity without dampening a single thing around it or emitting scary white dust. Amazing! The replacement filters are also cheap, which is great.
Cons: A bit loud, seems to need filling a lot even on the lowest setting (but very easy fill - can bring pitcher to it rather than drag tank to the sink and lug back), and above all, big and ugly - my husband calls it an aircraft carrier, I think it's more like a urinal. But really, those are not deal breakers to me. I'm just happy to find something that works like it's supposed to! yay!

good humidifier, but keep an eye on it, January 12, 2010
By stoby9 (Austin, TX)

The Pro's:
- This thing can add a lot of humidity in a relatively short period of time. It had no problem maintaining 50-60% humidity on the medium setting in our 1800 sq ft home.
- The front fill panel makes it super easy to grab your plant watering can and add a half gallon or so as needed. This is good because even on medium it can empty the resevoir in less than 24 hours.
- Easy to clean/maintain and the Lasko filters are cheaper than most
The Nuetral's:
- As with most humidifiers the "high" setting is too loud to reasonably use unless you are quickly trying to add humidity while your not home.
- As with most humidifiers the 3 gallon rating is the max moisture it can add to the air in a 24 hour period. It only holds 1.75 so you have to fill relatively often in the winter when the heater is constantly working against you.
The Con's:
- This unit does not have Auto-shutoff. It uses a pump to keep the filter moist and generally keep the water moving to help prevent mold/bacteria. This is great, but if you let it run dry the pump is toast.
- If you over-fill it the fan motor is toast and I was never able to find the fill line that the manual indicates the unit has so I probably tended to underfill it.
- The fill door, while very convenient, has a major design flaw. If you fill it while it's running (and I always did...the manual says not to, but i'm sure everybody does) there is a likelyhood that some water from the running pump will trickle out and down the side while you are filling. This seems minor, but once that trickle starts its like starting a siphon...it just keeps going until it's empty. Twice my unit slowly emptied itself onto the floor over the course of several hours. The first time I noticed and shut it off...the 2nd time was overnight and once it ran out of water the pump burnt out.
I'd consider 18 months of near constant use pretty reasonable for a $45 product so I gave 3 stars despite the design flaws...just keep an eye on it.

Lasko-cheap filters, December 26, 2007

I have switched to Lasko humidifiers in our bedrooms because their units have been durable for us (model 1100) and their filters are inexpensive. I order replacement filters straight from Lasko at 3.00 each, and each time get enough for several years. I just ordered a model 1115, and filter also $3.00.

Great Humidifier, Good Value, March 2, 2008
By Thrashfan (Clarinda, IA)
|
|
I own a house of around 1200 square feet, and this humidfier is large enough to keep the air comfortable in the winter, and cuts back on the static electricity, and my sleep is better. For the price it is going for on the internet, or in the local store I got mine at well over a year ago now, this is a deal. The low cost of replacing the filters (ordering directly from the company) and the reliability i have had from this the two winters I have used this now make this stand out even among newer models. I have yet to see a better deal for a humidifier, and I have recommended this to many people I know, and I hope you will find this product a good value also.

Quiet and efficient, February 14, 2010
By Penmouse

|
Approximately four days ago we started using the Lasko 3-gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier as our family was recovering from the common cold. The air is always dry, as we live in the high country, but we all felt the dryness when our noses were stuffy.
We ordered the Lasko humidifier and it arrived right on time thanks to Amazon.
I cleaned the humidifier as directed by the manufacturer and then placed the unit in our family room. After several hours the humidity increased by about 20% in our house. As stated in Amazon's advertising copy this unit is supposed to humidify up to 1,500 square feet. The box states this unit is perfect for bedrooms and will humidify an 800 square foot area. All I can state is the humidifier has done a sufficient job of raising the interior humidity from about 30 percent to almost 50 percent. We are now comfortable and breathing easier thanks to this unit.
Positive things we like about this unit:
Quiet. You hear a quiet fan and if you are sitting close to the machine it almost sounds like the tinkling of a brook as the water is sprayed into the cooling unit.
Easy to fill. I use a Rubbermaid plastic pitcher to pour water directly into the machine. There is a door that you can push down and directly pour water into the container below. No more taking the unit apart and lugging the water container to the tub to fill with water. The pitcher can do the job. It's so much easier.
Negatives: I can't think of one negative thing. This a wonderful unit that does the job.
Highly recommend.

Leak Problem Solved - Puts plenty of moisture in Air, December 12, 2010
By wraymondmoran
|
|
I liked the idea of an Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier. Of course, the 3 Gallon capacity is bull squat. Ad doesn't mention filling it twice a day. Had same Leak Problem as others. Worked great, filter a great idea, Then: - The great leak on my carpet. I thought I screwed up and became extremely diligent in following all the rules. Don't overfill, Be sure to turn off unit before filling, Keep unit level. Worked fine, and then the same thing. It Leaked.- Really liked the unit and didn't want the hassle of returning the unit. - SOLVED the Problem by placing the Unit inside of a Litter Pan. Got one from Big Lots for 6.00, measures about 14 x 17 X 4" High. The Unit perfectly. Now, if it leaks again, the water stays inside the Litter pan.
Then I got smart and contacted the manufacturer @ 1-800-233-0268. Described my problem, and discovered a missing part. They sent me a plastic insert that fits onto a lower track just inside the front creme panel. The insert has a groove that slides over this inside track. Do not try to attach to the clear panel. The clear panel is designed to press against it when closed. Finally, Problem solved.

Noisier than expected, but Good, January 28, 2011
By Jueeuj
|
|
I am a 24-year-old dude, and I sleep like a rock. However, this humidifier is louder than I expected and partially disturbed my sleep at first. The fan noise is totally fine...but the recirculating spray jet in the front sounds like a erratic babbling brook even on 'low'. I'm all about the nature sounds, but not when I'm trying to get some rest.
I also happen to be an engineer. Respectfully, everyone who is complaining about leaks is (I would wager) filling the thing up with too much water. There is NO WAY this unit leaks around the bottom when filled up to recommended fill line per the instruction manual, and there is NO WAY the spray jet in front leaks unless you receive a damaged unit. Refilling from the front is absolutely the way to go; it's super easy to pour water from a gallon jug into the front of the unit without disassembly.
Using distilled water will save you the hassle of cleaning for weeks, if not longer. Overall, the benefits of recirculation and price outweigh the spray jet noise enough for me to award 4 stars.

Do not buy., December 24, 2009
By Amazon Shopper (Arlington, VA USA)
|
|
This purchase was an extreme disappointment for several reasons. First, the "3 Gallon Humidifier" title is horribly misleading. The humidifier actually holds 1 ¾ gallons but can evaporate 3 gallons in a day. That's like telling me how many gallons my car's gas tank can take in per day: interesting, I suppose, but not all that useful if I have to keep refilling it. Second, there is no easy way to refill this thing. You can either pour water into a top panel without moving the humidifier (which essentially requires that you have a hose or a bucket handy) or partially disassemble the top assembly with the fan and hoses from the bottom panel with the reservoir (which gets water everywhere). Other designs with lift-out water carriers are far superior. Finally, it erratically makes a gurgling/dripping noise that is loud enough to disturb my sleep and make me think I need to go to the bathroom. Do not waste your money on this humidifier.

A very functional and reliable humidifier with just a few faults, November 14, 2009
By Luke Mazza (Albany, NY USA)
|
|
So far so good with this humidifier. I was looking for something that was low fuss, and with a decent capacity and output. Seems like this fits the bill. Simple enough that maintenance is easy. Filters and pads seem pretty cheap and available. The only drawbacks are the noise (pretty much a fan noise, and you'll get that with any evaporating humidifier) and it doesn't have a low water cutoff so keep an eye on it. Otherwise, a very good investment.

needs improvement., September 7, 2008
By ss (Atlanta, GA)

When I first thought about buying this humidifier, I based my decision on the reviews that were written about this product. When I first got the unit, everything seemed fine except for the filter. It arrived with some brown discoloring around the edge. Also, the humidifier looked like it has been used. I'm not sure if I was sold a used one; If I was, that is gross and unsanitary. There is dark discoloration inside the unit that I had to clean off when I first got it. After using the unit for a few months, the same discoloration came back so that led me to believe that I was sold a used one. It seems to do the job, but the water gets cloudy everyday and it is a pain to have to dump all the water out and refill it. No one should have to be sold a used unit, period.

Best I've Tried, But Do Be Careful When Refilling, March 1, 2010
By cook123 (Georgia)
|
|
We have tried several humidifiers in an effort to bring moisture into our son's room, especially during the winter months. This one absolutely works. We keep a gauge in his room to measure the temp and humidity, and although the air has gotten as dry as 15%, with this humidifier running, it maintains on average around 40%. This is a significant difference! This humidifier doesn't just keep saturating the air either. When it reaches a certain level, it backs off. On the driest nights, the humidifier will be close to being out of water in the morning, but on warmer nights, it will have more water in the morning.
It is also super easy to clean! The clear plastic bottom part is the easiest part to clean, but there are 2 other parts that you can also easily clean. With our last humidifier, I had to really poke my fingers in to wipe out slime. This humidifier doesn't even grow slime.
We are ordering another one of these for our bedroom. My only recommendation is to buy the filters directly from Lasko. I have tried ordering them online from amazon and keep getting the wrong ones for a steep price. So, I went directly to Lasko's website where they only cost a few dollars each (significant difference!).
Overall, after several humidifiers, this is the best, most efficient one. It doesn't make a lot of noise, and the lowest setting is all we need to keep the humidity at a comfortable level.
That said, it can leak on you if you're not careful. Just turn off the unit when refilling it, and make sure not to overfill it.
It really works!!

Success at last, January 11, 2010
By Words N Pics (New York, United States)
|

The third try was the charm... I love this humidifier. I had had problems with the Vicks and the Hamilton Beach cool-mist evaporative humidifiers (mess, ineffectiveness, complicated refilling/draining/mopping, and, with the Vicks, perhaps a defective seal that made unscrewing the tank cap a painfully difficult operation). This Lasko model with its completely different design has done the trick. The water tank is on the bottom instead of the top, and you can fill it easily from, say, a jug of distilled water, without having to take it to the sink to disassemble it, empty the reservoir, make a mess. The intelligent product design has the cord attached high on the back of the unit, so that even if you did slop the water while filling it you won't bathe the cord in it, nor will you get it into the motor (see picture; you refill it at the half-circle you see low on the front).
Other reviewers have described it, including the sound, and I agree that the sound of the fan and the water takes some getting used to. But until someone invents a silent humidifier/fan, I'll be happy with this one. Oddly, my cats love it and sleep in the closest spots to it. They probably like the water sound. Their fur loses its static electricity when they're in the vicinity, too.
As for its effectiveness--it's doing its best against my powerful forced-air furnace, which has been on a lot this past week (VERY cold here). On medium speed, it's been raising the humidity level 10% in about an hour and a half. This speed lets me get through a long day (~14 hours) on one gallon of water.
I'm very pleased with it!

Good humidifier but has a cooling effect., December 30, 2009
By Timothy W. Dewees (Tullahoma, TN USA)
|
|
I'm pleased with the ease of using this cooler. Right out of the box, I poured water into the opening on the top and plugged it in. It worked fine with no set-up or hassle. It has definitely helped to humidify the back half of my home which is where I spend most of my time. I've noticed an improvement in my dry, winter skin. Be aware though that this is essentially a "swamp cooler" and it does have a cooling effect, particularly on the room where you place it. I've needed to turn my thermostat up a degree or two to maintain the same feeling of warmth as before I got the humidifier. To me it is worth it due to the huge improvement in my dry, winter skin with the additional humidity. But if you are someone who cringes at the thought of turning the heat up a degree or so, this might not be the humidifier for you.

It works in my apartment!, January 7, 2010
By Dave (Maryland)
|
|
This was my first humidifier purchase, I was looking for one that better ratings overall. I didn't know much about the differences between types (mist, heated, ionic). As another reviewer put, this humidifier is a true workhorse. All humidifiers tend to require daily and weekly maintenance, which while annoying, I guess goes with the territory. This unit is easy to operate and clean. I live in an 800 sq ft apartment and suffer from poor insulation and a very powerful forced air heater. The output states Med/Large room 650-1050 sq ft. I haven't had much luck based on my hydrometer, which stays at 16% with this unit running. I was able to get my bedroom to 25%, with the door closed. I think this is more towards the apartment than the unit. I was however, able to get the apartment to 40% by boiling water on the stove, keeping the humidifier running on HIGH, and taking a shower. However, quickly (6 hours later, the humidity dropped and held at 25% until I turned the unit off. I recently haven't been running it because I have been in and out and haven't had time for the daily maintenance. Even though my humidity level doesn't change on my hydrometer, when its' off, I can definitely tell that the air is dryer without the unit running and I have to turn up the heat to feel warm.
My two complaints are that the air coming out is cool because it's a cool mist humidifier and the "auto" on/off switch, based on humidity level doesn't seem to be very accurate (it never cut back on when the humidity dropped). For my situation, i just let it run all the time, which works the best.
As for noise, the nighttime (low) setting is very quiet, but not sure how useful that would be, since it doesn't seem to output a lot of air. The high setting is like a desk fan on high, it can be a good background/white noise, but annoying when trying to watch TV. The medium setting is very tolerable and is like a gentle fan. This humidifier will run approx.. 12 hours on high and 24 hours on medium between fillings. I haven't seen how it affects my electric bill, but based on online calculators, it will raise my bill by $10-15 a month if I had it running 24 hours a day for 30 days.
All in all, I thought it was a good purchase. After I bought it, I wish I would have bought a more powerful/bigger unit, but I thought about buying another one to help out, but not really sure I want to "care for" 2 humidifiers. For the price, it was reasonable, I couldn't justify spending over $100 for a unit that does the same thing.

Lovin' the Lasko humidifier, February 12, 2010
By Germie (Bellingham, WA USA)
|
|
I got the Lasko 1115 3-gallon humidifier after many poor nights sleep (it took me a while to realize this was due to dryness- I eventually realized that dryness was what was causing all the static electricity that kept shocking me).
Anyway, I got it in the mail right when they said, in great condition, and immediately cleaned it and plugged it in. I haven't had a humidifier for like 15 years- this is all new to me: cleaning filters wasn't something you did back then (yikes). The instructions are easy to understand and the care and maintainence are easy to perform. The humidifier has an added benefit of creating the perfect volume of "white noise" on it's lowest setting, so stormy nights or traffic are less noticeable. The medium and high settings are a little noisier- I save the high settings for when I'm not home, though I find that the lowest setting is sufficient in humidifying the house. This style of humidifier also doesn't have the drawbacks of "white dust" that the ultrasonic humidifiers apparently have. I've had no problem with overhumidification (no moisture on insides of windows, etc). I've run this humidifier for about 12 hours a day on average for the past 2 months, and it's still going strong. Great product- great price- glad I got it!

Does the job well, December 17, 2009
By arlington shopper (virginia)

I like this humidifier. It does a good job distributing moisture - much better than our old steam humidifier. It's easy to fill and I really like the 3 speeds. Run it on 3 to humidify the room quickly, run it on 1 all night long. It's not a silent machine. The fan has a low hum and the trickling of water can be heard up to 15 feet away. We quickly got used to it though. We used to run a white noise machine while we sleep but we don't have to anymore.

Lasko 1115 3-gallon recirculating humidifier, February 4, 2011
By Emmalu (Denver CO)
|
|
This a great humidifier; it is a snap to fill, no lifting, just a pitcher and it's done. No dripping or sloshing while filling. Ours uses quite a bit of water every day. Maybe that's because we have such an arid climate. It has made our condo more comfortable, less dryness (esp. in the nose), and good for the skin. And absolutely NO WHITE DUST. I use tap water and my previous humidifier blanketed everything in white. Not this one. Love it.

Good, but leaks sometimes, December 6, 2010
By greenpad (Raleigh, NC)
|
|
First off, this humidifier is BIG. Much bigger than I thought from the picture. I'm okay with that, but because of its size, filling the base can be troublesome--we usually fill it from the top using a jug. We bought it for the baby's room, which is small, so we run it on low. When we first bought it we tried it in our room and the trickling noise drove my wife crazy. Didn't bother me.
We ran it a few weeks with no problem, then saw water dripping on our dining table from the ceiling. It leaked *that much*. I still don't really know why. It leaks beneath the clear window, where the top housing meets the bottom. I propped the little window open a little so the water runs down the inside wall instead of the outside, and that seems to have fixed it, but we still have it sitting in a pan now, that will catch the leaks. I removed the window prop once and sure enough, it filled the pan.
Pros:
1) Simple. There aren't weird crevices or anything that get gummed up. There is one motor, which turns both the fan and the pump. The pump has clear tubing that splits between the little waterfall window and the filter.
2) Simple filter. It's a rectangular paper filter that's about an inch thick. It's inside a plastic frame, and it's removable. Soaking it in vinegar will clean it right up and make it last a lot longer. Refills are cheap on Lasko's website, and I would imagine those "universal" filters would work well here.
3) The filter doesn't sit in the water. This means when you turn the unit off, the filter will dry out. This keeps it from molding as quickly.
Cons:
1) The waterfall is just noisy enough to be annoying to some people.
2) It leaks unexpectedly. I still don't really understand why it leaks where it does, but I've seen where the water was coming out.
Even with the leak, I don't really regret buying it. I've had 7-8 humidifiers in my life and this one seems to be made to last the best. Yes, the plastic housing is flimsy, but I'm not sure it would actually break. Instead it's probably less likely to crack.

Lasko 1115 3-gallon ev. rec. humidifier, January 11, 2010
By Turtle (Rockland, ME)

Purchased this on Amazon-
humidifier is a bit big and ugly out of the box, and feels a bit fragile-
but don't read a book by its cover.
Humidifier works excellent. Quiet, effective, 24hrs before refill.
Very easy to fill and little required except for new filters.
I have extremely hard water and the humidifier works perfectly-
If they made a more attractive design, it would be outstanding.
Does have a cooling affect-
currently humidifying @ 700 sq ft.

Gets The Job Done., December 16, 2006
By Thrashfan (Clarinda, IA)

It's that time of the year and static electricity and dry air are all going hand in hand. This little unit has reduced that tremendously in my house. I picked this up for about 30 bucks at a local chain home improvement store. My house is around 1300 square feet, and this treats around 800 square foot by it's claims, and it does fine for getting my first and second floors, the two that I am on the most. The basement really doesn't need too much help. This is and evaporative mechanism, with a self cleaning filter, EZ fill top fill door, Queit operation, and a waterfall that shows it's working. Holds 1.75 gallons of water. This has replaceable (size THF 15) filter pads available for it at back. I hope you find that this unit works well in your house also.

good at first, but after a year? not so good, December 23, 2010
By franvf (Western NC, United States)

I originally gave this 4 stars when I purchased it last winter. It runs well, and I could use a juice jug to fill it up. I had to fill it up twice a day when run at the lowest setting, but it sure did pump out the humidity. However, as the winter went by, more and more of a pink slime mold began to build up in the tubing, and could not be cleaned out. By March, when I no longer needed the humidifier running, there was pink slime everywhere. I cleaned what I could, but not every place in this humidifier is reachable (and I can't use bleach as I have asthma). The tubing that pumps the water into the fill opening is the worst for not being able to clean out.
When I started it back up this fall, it only took two weeks for the mold to have reappeared and spread. So I am reducing my rating to 2 stars. Anything with water running through it like this should be designed to have all sections easily cleanable. Due to the mold, this humidifier is now in the trash - I will not give something to goodwill, etc, that has a possible health issue.

|
|
Does have a cooling affect-
currently humidifying @ 700 sq ft.

great little humidifer, February 11, 2011
By C. Birenbaum (Lansdale, PA USA)
|

This is a great little humidifier. I had a Kenmore unit for many years but it started to leak from somewhere i could not identify. I looked at many brands and models and decided on this one. I bought a plastic storage box to place it in just in case it leaked. The design of the unit looks like it could never leak unless there was a crack or break in the unit. I am totally satisfied with it. It has three speeds, and the high speed is a little loud, but it does not bother me. I use it upstairs in the hall way. It does not have a humidistat, so it runs continuously. This is the only drawback I see. Since the water circulates continuously there is no need for a bacteriastat. So now i have a few bottles of that left over. this is a real cost savings to not have to buy. I have not had to clean the unit after over a month of use. I do have a water softener, so perhaps that explains whey it remains clean and free of any buildup. I am considering buying another one for my downstairs.
I would recommend this unit to anyone who needs to add humidity to their house. The unit is rated at around 800 square feet, i think, and this is probably about right.

Good humidifier, December 14, 2010
By Denny
|
|
I use my Lasko 1115 throughout the winter months and it works great. Keeps the humidity in my 1200sqft condo very comfortable when running in the living room. Running it on the lowest setting, I just have to refill it twice a day (morning and night).
I have encountered the leaking issue that other folks have noted. Seems to be a flaw with the unit construction; there is a gap where two pieces fit together inside the fill chamber. The force of the water seems to be rather variable, and if the force is too high the water will flow past the edges of the clear hinged panel covering the chamber and into that gap, where it leaks out on the end below the fill chamber lid. I solved the problem by wedging the fill chamber lid partway open with a clothespin (the lid is spring-loaded and pushes down and inward to open); this redirects the water straight down into the reservoir and away from the panel gap no matter how high the flow is.
Other than the leaking issue, this is a great humidifier. Doesn't use much power to run since it's just powering a fan and a small pump, and it doesn't vaporize the water so there's no mineral residue left on everything in the room. It's easy to take apart and clean.

Fantastic Service !, October 16, 2010
By whatever

|
I've been using this unit very heavily and am very happy with its performance. After about 8 months of use the dial which controls the unit (on/off and speed) stopped working properly and wouldn't function at the lowest speed setting. Everything else worked fine so i didn't get around to contacting Lasko until i realized the warranty had about a week left on it.
It turns out that Lasko service is amazing. Their service reps are in central pa and i was able to get someone on the phone without any hassle or delay. They sent me another unit with a prepaid return box for the original which arrived a day or two after my call.
I would enthusiastically recommend this company and their products.

I only ran this humidifier at night during sleep hours and in no less than two weeks the power switch stopped working. It wouldn't run on any speed. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Unfortunately, I had disposed of the box, otherwise it would be on its way back to the retailer.

Big and Loud, January 10, 2010
By D. Walters (Utah)
|
|
I was disappointed with this humidifier. It does seem to work well, but it is much louder than what I'm used to. I've been using a Venta VS207 (no longer available to purchase) which is almost inaudible, so I'm not used to any humidifier noise. We have small children in bedrooms nearby, and this unit is loud enough to make it hard to hear them if they wake up in the middle of the night, even if we leave it on the lowest setting. Plus, the self cleaning feature flows water across its interior surfaces constantly, which to me sounds like I left the water running somewhere.
I also found it difficult to refill. Your options are 1) take it apart and carry the base to the sink. There is no handle or lid to the base so you have to be very careful not to spill. Or 2) make 3 trips back and forth to the bathroom with a gallon bottle. I don't like either option, so I give this a thumbs down.

Not As Pictured..., July 10, 2011
By Kelly H (Phoenix, AZ)
|

Don't be deceived by the pretty picture that makes this unit look white and light blue where the water reservoir is. This machine is plain ugly. It's an industrial beige plastic and the shape of a porta-potty; distinctly undecorative. And it isn't "whisper quiet." The recirculating water makes a constant dribble sound and leaks a little out the front of the unit no matter how I put the top on. I live in the Southwest and bought this to add a little moisture to the air in my less than 300sq ft bedroom, but you can't put enough water into it to keep it going all night even on the lowest setting. There's no timer, so by the time I wake up it's out of water and making a grinding noise. Not a good buy.

Leaky Cascade, March 30, 2011
By Jacqueline Graul (Denver, CO)
|
|
I bought this humidifier based on the good reviews it got on Amazon and only saw one bad review stating their Lasko humdifier leaked. So I bought the humdifier and within 2 days it started leaking right below the plastic connecting part underneath the cascade part. The first time it leaked, I tried to re-adjust the plastic pieces so they would fit tighter together and ran the humdifier for 24 hours, ran great, then again started leaking. This leaked all over my hard wood floors and I would not recommend this to anyone.

Solid Humidifier, March 2, 2011
By Coffee Lover (Chicago, IL)
|
|
This humidifier is very easy to fill and unlike others we have purchased, it doesn't drip water onto the floor when you are filling. The basin holds a lot of water and we run ours all evening/night on the middle setting and it's just about empty in the morning. It's quiet when full but does get loud and distracting when the water level is low. Filter is easy and lasts awhile which is great - I hate thinking about changing it every few weeks. It is a little big but I'd trade that for functionality any day.

Great Humidifier! No Leaks Yet, February 26, 2011
By J. Williams
|
|
I struggled in deciding between the evaporative type humidifier and the ultrasonic type. We have hard water and in our old evaporative humidifier a filter would only last about 4 - 6 weeks. The replacement filters were around $9 each, so I hesitated to go that route again. However, I have read about white dust being a problem for the ultrasonic humidifiers, especially if you have hard water.
Conclusion: When I found this LASKO 1115 and found that the replacement filters were only around $4 - $6 each AND realized that they don't depend solely on WICKING (the pump distributes water to the TOP of the filter), I really felt that I had found just the right humidifier for our home. I have used it for about a month. It works great, the filter seems to still be going strong, and I have not had any of the leaking problems that others have experienced. I am thrilled! (at least as thrilled as you can be about a humidifier!)

Pretty good, February 8, 2011
By PC (New York, NY)
|

This humidifier has worked well for me so far. I can definitely feel the humidity in the room when I use it and it hasn't leaked on me once yet. I'd say be careful about how you place the top on after filling it. If it's not properly aligned that might cause leaking while it's running. It's the only humidifier that I've had so I don't really have anything to compare it to but for the past month it's gotten the job done and I'm sleeping much better.

Works better than ultrasonic humidifiers, January 26, 2011
By J. Millet (Arizona)
|
|
Pros:
Has 1.75 gallon capacity tank (3 gallon rating is how much humidity it can put in the air over 24 hours)
Quickly puts humidity in the air, better than the other ultrasonic humidfier we have.
Fan is out of the reach of curious little children's fingers because it is recessed about 6 inches below the fan grill.
Can refill using a pitcher (does not need to remove the lid).
Can use bacteriostat treatment because it is not an ultrasonic humidifier.
Replacement filters are inexpensive (about $4 each) when purchased from the manufacturer.
Cons:
Creates noise, but not more than any other humidifier of its size.
We did not have any problem with leaking, but then we put it in the bathroom, so even if it did leak, it would not be on carpet or wood.

Humidifies, but lower room temp considerably., December 16, 2010
By William
|
|
I researched this Humidifier for some time on here and had seen a warning that it lowers room temp. It does so, and it does so quickly. The first time I used it the room temp dropped 3 degrees on the opposite side of the room before the humidity raised 1 percent (made me want to return at first). Usually the drop in temperature is 2-3 degrees, which doesn't sound like much, but you can certainly feel it in the winter (especially in an old house with electric heat). The good news is that it raises the humidity in a medium sized bedroom through the course of a night adequately by about 10-15% on the 2nd setting (room hovers around 25% naturally, wake up with 35%-40%). 1 does not provide enough and 3 is probably too loud to sleep. Solution to room temp drop: I just turn it on when I'm jumping in bed and fall asleep under the covers before it cools the room and turn it off when I get up. Haven't changed pad yet, but they are cheaper than most. I clean every two weeks with white vinegar/warm water. Refill is easy through the top door with a pitcher and capacity is better than most units this size. Good value for the price.

A humidifier that actually humidifies., December 7, 2010
By J. K. Paasch (Cincinnati, OH USA)
|
|
I've owned many humidifiers over the years. Most have been disappointing. This one actually works.
We've been using this in one our rooms for about a year now and have been very pleased with the effectiveness of this unit. It produces an appreciable amount of humidity and can run about 10 hours or so on the highest setting with a full tank. The modestly sized room (12X10) it's in is much more comfortable as a result of this humidifier.
In this unit the filter sits outside of the water. As a result the filter is less prone to molding and holds up longer than other wick/filtered humidifiers I've used in the past. We have old pipes in an older house and have to change filters about once a month or so as a result. We use one of those Protec cleaning cartridges in the tank as well. Seems to help preserve the filter a bit longer as well, though with our water the tank needs cleaning on regular basis.
Speaking of filters, purchase them directly from Lasko. You'll save a couple bucks per filter vs. Amazon and elsewhere.
This unit is also easy to clean. Fill the tank with a vinegar/water solution and let it run for a bit. You can disconnect the tubes and run a pipe cleaner through them to clean out remaining gunk. You can wipe out most of the other areas with with a towel. Only area that requires some effort to clean is the space where the water is hosed into. Taking off a few screws, and pulling the housing apart, makes cleaning that area much easier. Not much effort involved really.
I see several reports of the unit leaking in other reviews. We've not had any such issues ourselves. Though the way the water is distributed/hosed, and the fact that you have to find the 'sweet-spot' when putting the top housing/motor over the tank, I can see how leaks could occur if some part is misaligned.
All in all a solid unit.

Works perfectly, April 6, 2010
By Wendy Waters

I got this humidifier after reading others' comments about it, and because it doesn't send a mist into the air. I need it for my piano studio, to maintain an even level of humidity for the piano. It works very well and is exactly what I was looking for. It is easy to refill the water, which I do every day, sometimes more than once. It does make a whirring sound from the fan, but I do not find it objectionable at all, even when I am playing the piano or teaching.

Misleading description for the humidifier, February 8, 2011
By Uriah Heep

|
In the description, the humidifier is listed as 3 gallons, when in fact it only holds 1.3 gallons of water, but it is capable of putting 3 gallons of water into the air per day. It should be listed as; 1.3 gallon capacity, 3 gallon disbursement into the air a day. I bought it thinking it held 3 gallons, and I believe the product description is misleading.

They did ship me the little part, I got it about 3 weeks later. but the "one time courtesy replacement
part." Really irritated me.
It works well, and does help with the air in my bedroom, and keep my nose from drying out as I sleep, I would buy one again, and have many lasko products.

Poorly designed, February 5, 2011
By Aaron Sher (Rochester, NY)
|
|
As a humidifier, this works adequately, in that if you put water in it, it puts the water into the air. So much for the basics. The recirculating feature makes it a bit noisy with a trickling-water sound (especially when the water gets low), but some people might find that soothing. Unfortunately, there's one serious design flaw that makes this something that I could never recommend: it doesn't have a separate water tank. Most humidifiers have a tank that you can remove, fill, and replace. This one stores the water in the base of the unit, meaning that in order to refill it, you have to remove the top (most likely dripping wet, assuming that you didn't run it entirely dry), remove the filter (also dripping wet), then carry the base to somewhere it can be filled. It's an awkward thing to carry, and when full it has a tendency to slosh water out (no top), so you have to carry it carefully.
To make matters worse, as other commenters have pointed out, it has only a 1.75-gallon capacity. With the 3-gallon evaporation rate (which seems to be quite accurate), that means that if you only run the unit at night, you'll have to refill it every other night. Other humidifiers I've used, even ultrasonic models, will go a week between refilling. If you wanted to use the thing 24 hours a day, you'd have to refill it *twice a day*. Somehow, I don't think that's going to happen.
In conclusion, this is a badly flawed design. I've used mine for three days, and I'm returning it.

Worth buying, February 9, 2011
By Ernb
|

The product does what is advertised to do--put cool mist into the air. We like the re-circulating design function as it eliminates the build up of stagnant water in the unit. Our old one needed to be cleaned often because not only did the water get funky but our iron hard water would leave a reddish deposit.
We follow the directions for refilling and cleaning the filter and have not experienced any of the negative comments made by earlier users. My only complaint is that there is a big gap in the output for this unit and the next size up since the 4 gallon model has been discontinued.

So far, this machine has been great in humidifying the room. Can definitely tell a difference when I walk into my apartment. The problem is, all I hear is water dripping/running from the "front window". I have tried to fix this by creating different gadgets to keep the window open to decrease the sound of the water but yet it sounds like a leaky toilet. Is there some sort of fix for this?

Lasko 1115 3-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier, January 25, 2011
By what is the need for this? (Somewhere, USA)
|
|
We have been stealing the kid's humidifiers for our bedroom. I finally decided on this based upon careful review and price I was willing to "gamble". This works very well at giving our, oh, 20x20 bedroom some decent humidity for this very dry winter. Admittedly, I took another reviewer's advice, and used (use) a clothespin to prop open slightly the plastic spring-loaded fill door, to direct the circulating water more inward, away from the front edge. I was trying to immediately avoid pumping out a gallon and a half onto our 2nd floor carpeted bedroom floor as we slept!
Other than having to jerry-rig a brand new humidifier, I have no real complaints to speak of. You DO have to take an extra moment to be sure you have the top placed on correctly, so that it is 100% sealed, but a little jiggle takes care of that! It has never leaked in the couple of weeks we have used it.
On the only other downside, running it on speed 3 emptied the 1 1/2 gallon basin too quickly while we slept. There wasn't any soaking comforter or furniture or anything, but the water was gone when we woke up. I'm glad the motor didn't burn out. We now use speed 2 only. We like the white noise it provides as well. I guess my only other "negative" (and it's not the humidifier!) is that I don't have a large enough container to use to refill it from the front refill door! So I just remove the top/fan assembly and refill the basin in the bath tub.
Lastly, as I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS, I have never refilled it while it is running ... like some others have commented in doing ... and mine has never leaked! ;)

Performs as claimed, January 14, 2011
By RBFB

Bought this humidifier about 10 days ago and realize that I need to buy a second one in order to get enough humidity into the air. We keep it running 24 hours a day, but the 3 gallons or so of output just isn't enough to bump the humidity level more than about 5% in a 600 sq ft. area (bdrm, bath, and walkin closet). This isn't the fault of the product,in my opinion. I have a humister to measure the humidity which has been averaging in the house around 30% without the humidifier.
It is very easy to refill. We use a quart bottle to refill and have yet to have any leakage. You do need to be mindful not to over fill the tank as potentially you would get water into the motor. My suggestion would be to keep the water level approx. 11/2 inches below the top of the clear plastic tank. The sound level is pretty unobtrusive at the 1 and 2 setting. I haven't cleaned it yet, but that's coming as I can see some calcium buildup on the filter.
BTW the delivery was fast w/ standard mailing in two days from ordering! The product packaging is skimpy as other reviewers have noted, but the box was shipped inside a shipping box and that probably kept it from any shipping damage.

So far so good, January 14, 2011
By J. Foster (Southern Illinois, USA)
|
|
Selected this humidifier after reading reviews and have been very happy with it. It has run almost continuously since we got it just over a month ago and it has been cold so the furnace has been running too. We put it in a central location in the downstairs part of the house which is about 800 square feet including our bedroom.
It really humidifies the house well and I have been amazed at how much moisture it puts out without any sign of moisture on anything. It is fairly quiet on low and that is what it has been running on most of the time just outside the bedroom door and we have had no problem sleeping or watching TV. It has to be filled daily, but no big deal as it is easy to do.
I really have no complaints so far and for the size and price and ease of use it is well worth the cost.

Love it but leaking after a year., November 16, 2010

Thought I finally found a great humidifier and had figured out how to clean it (our water is very hard and the tubing inside became encrusted with minerals and the humidifier wouldn't run at all so we run a little vinegar/water through it when we clean it.) Like others it is leaking now through the seam that runs on the side along the top of the humidifier. So frustrating. Seems like we go through a humidifier per season!

Great Humidifier, very quiet, but not 3-gallon, November 8, 2010
By sooupper (Twentynine Palms, CA USA)
|
|
I wanted a quiet humidifer for my bedroom that did not use a lot of water. I run it only at night, about 10-hours and it uses less than half the available water. I live in a very dry area and it puts enough moisture in the bedroom to make sleeping very comfortable. I like the three settings, the lowest is very quiet.
This does not have a three gallon tank, maybe 1 1/2 gallon. I get bottle water in 3-gallon bottles and it only take about half the bottle. It will use 3-gallons of water within 24-hours if ran on high and the room is very dry.
Do not buy the advertised bundled filter, it is the WRONG size.

THIS PRODUCT PERFORMS AS ADVERTISED AND IS EASY TO MAINTAIN. TAKES UP A BIT OF SPACE, BUT IS RELATIVELY QUIET AND FUNCTIONAL. BEST HUMIDIFIER FOR THE MONEY THAT I HAVE SEEN

Leaked all over the place...., March 21, 2010
By Mom in SoCal (Los Angeles, CA)

Worked okay for a few days but then started leaking all over the carpet. Thought we just had not placed the top on correctly so then re-filled and replaced the cover on completely and correctly. Still leaked the next night all over the carpet. Piece of junk, I would stay away and go with another humidifier. We're on our 4th humidifier and have not yet found one that is great.

Great Humidifier, February 19, 2010
By J. Marris (NC)

|
This thing works great, even does a small house. I have had no problems keeping it clean. We use city water in it and clean it about every 2 weeks, little to no build-up or residue. The fan noise is low on the slowest speed, no complaints there. I have used 2 other fan type humidifiers in the past and this seems as good as any after 2 months of use. Very pleased!

deceptive advertising, February 5, 2010
By J. R. Brown

lasko's web site advertises this product as humidifying up to 1500 sq ft.. However, after receiving the product the box states "humidifies up to 800 sq ft.
No problem with Amazon, purchases always easy, fast, and reliable.

Humidify's well!, January 21, 2010
By Gadgets & Gizmos (Bay Area)
|
|
I was surprised at how much moisture this thing puts in the air
Great for the winter months like right now, It's a lil bit noisier than I'd like but it works so well
I'll live with the noise.
Since it's not a warming humidifier the room does get a little colder with this on too..

You want a humidifier? Not this one you don't!, March 27, 2010
By mememe

I purchased this humidifier to replace a low-end Hunter of similar capacity based on some favorable reviews here. The intent was to find something quieter than the Hunter, which in all other respects was an adequate unit. Buying a Lasko 1115 was a mistake.
The first unit I received had a smashed water tank, damaged during shipping. When I saw the packaging I could readily see why. The unit shipped from Amazon in the manufacture's display box, which only contained two small squares of styrofoam to hold it in position in the box, providing no real protection against normal handling much less the kind of abuse that many UPS parcels experience. As packaging goes this was asking for trouble. Fortunately, Amazon made exchanging it relatively painless. Kudos to Amazon for this.
The second unit I received was undamaged in transit and worked as expected for about a month. Then one day I found a large pool of water around it and the tank empty for no apparent reason. After this happened again a few days later I figured it out. Water from the water jet that sprays on the front panel was finding its way into a seam and dribbling out of the front of the unit onto the floor. After twenty minutes of running like this, it would pump a half gallon of water onto the floor. This was an intermittent problem that would only occur during perhaps one in five tank refills.
I have other minor nits to pick such as a mediocre filter design, and a nameplate that is always half-way falling off, but these are superficial compared to having a half tank of water randomly dumped on your floor. Yes, I can probably fix this leak myself by adding a bead of adhesive along the leaky seam, so this is not the end of the world for anyone who encounters this particular defect, but then again why would I want to reward Lasko for a cheap box design and poor quality control by buying their proprietary filters when I can just as easily just dig my old Hunter back out of the closet and use it instead?
Save yourself some aggravation and keep looking.

Didn't do anything, February 14, 2011
By BG
|
|
The first one came with a crack in the basin. Second one came and seemed to be fully functioning, but after a week there was no difference whatsoever in the air moisture in my bedroom even though I would turn it on full blast before going to bed and keeping it on entire night. Bedroom is a third the size of the supposed max. Returned the product.

Great humidifier, July 28, 2011
By musikm46

The Lasko 1115 is a great humidifier for the price. It doesn't have a few features that I would like on it but I'm not willing to pay a premium for them. I also think it's somewhat difficult to mess with moving it and filling it. I also recall when I first purchased it that it was kind of a pain to set up and use for the first time. I've used it almost a full year now and haven't had to worry about the filter yet.
Bottom line - good product at a good price.

Just what I was looking for, April 13, 2011
By CLB (Pittsburgh, PA)
|
|
I wanted a humidifier that didn't leave white residue or moisture on the surrounding furniture or carpet and I finally found one. This humidifier is easy to use and works well. In the winter my house becomes one giant vat of static electricity because of the forced-air heat. I can't even touch my cat without getting zapped. This humidifier solved the problem. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars is that it is louder than I would like - I keep it on low all the time because of the noise - and the filter is not permanent. Other than that, it's great. It's just what I was looking for.

you'll love it, March 20, 2011
By jessie

this is a very nice humidifier, especially during the winter when your heater drys the air out. there is a much fresher feel to the area it's in. i tried it in my bedroom and you can barely hear it on the low speed. Because of it's size and the amount of space it can keep humid i moved it to the living room. i have to say there is a huge difference. my whole downstairs (about 800-900 square feet) feels alot fresher and it only needs to be refilled once a day. i noticed it also seems to filter out smells too, so if your a smoker but don't like the smell of it in your house like me then you can rest assured it wont. it even takes out kitty litter smells. the only thing is you gotta put the top on evenly otherwise it will leak when you refill it. but it's not a big deal, just make sure the top is even by moving your finger around the edge and don't knock it around.

Effective but not comfortable for a drafty room in winter, January 14, 2011
By abstract expressionist p.. (Clarkesville, GA USA)

This humidifier certainly works well to put moisture into the air, and the noise of the fan on either of the two lower settings serves as a nice "white noise" background to facilitate sleep. Cleaning the filter and basin weekly is a chore, but OK. Our problem with it is that our cabin is drafty, and the breeze the fan creates just got to be too chilly on cold nights.
You can use this to your advantage if one person likes more heat than the other -- positioning the humidifier so the breeze cools one person. But the breeze does seem to amplify any drafts in the building.
This would be a fine choice for a tight, well-insulated room.

Worked ok for a couple years, motor burned out, January 2, 2011
By Scott Henrichs
|
|
Worked fine for I think the last couple months of winter and one full winter. It is a bit loud, but I only run it in the evening when I'm awake anyways. A bit of a pain to clean since its rather bulky, but not too bad, lime seems to build up on it fast. The big problem was this winter, was sitting around watching TV as it ran, then smelled something burning just a bit. Turned it off and the smell went away. Next day I go to turn the humidifier back on, and the light goes on, but no fan. Apparently the motor is burned out after a total of probably 6 months use over 3 different winter seasons. Cheaply made, no doubt.

Good output, easy to fill, December 13, 2010
By Jack Pine (NW Michigan)
|
|
I use this humidifier to keep one large bedroom around 45% humidity throughout the day. It does this easily with one 1 gallon filling per day. Other models - one evaporative and one ultrasonic - had a hard time doing this. I don't run it at night because it's too loud for me too sleep. The humidity drops overnight usually to about 32% by morning. I love how easy it is to fill from the top - just hold down the hinged plastic window with one hand and pour with the other. I've only had the unit for about 5 weeks, but have had no leaks. Size-wise it is kind of a "beast" as one reviewer put it. It's 16" long, 13" wide, and 13" high. Mine sits comfortably on a 19"x14" TV tray table. Also, I use tap water for filling and do not get any white dust. This humidifier is used in northern Michigan.

Perfect humidifier, November 16, 2010
By Susan (Boston, MA United States)

Have bought several of these lasko recirculating humidifiers over the years and have never had a problem. They do an excellent job of humidifying, are not too loud, easy to fill, and stay cleaner than others I have owned because of the recirculating water. Absolutely recommend this product. I bought this one for my mom (who also has had several) and she wanted me to buy two this time in case they stop making them at some point!

Too fragile to ship?, November 11, 2010
By Johnny F (Chicago, IL USA)
|
|
I'm sure this humidifier works great, if it arrives in tact. Like other reviewers, mine arrived with a cracked bottom - causing a leak. I think Lasko should reconsider their packaging if they intend to sell these via mail order. The motor unit (top piece) has a long stem that nearly touches the bottom of the water tank. If handled roughly, it will make contact with the bottom and crack the tank. The packaging does not account for this. Should you decide to purchase one, check the bottom before setting it up. I returned mine and replaced it with a different product. Kudos to Amazon for their easy return policy.

Best Humidifier! Buy it!, July 4, 2010
By love amazon!
|
|
I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this humidifier due to the fact that I had previously purchased two different humidifiers and both of them worked only 1 year. I had paid double the price for them as I did this humidifier. This humidifier works great! It is 10 times better than those I had bought previously. It is as quiet as I would expect and it outputs a lot of moisture into the air. It was exactly what I needed since I live in an environment where the air is very dry in my house in the winter months. I use this humidifier 24 hours/every day in the winter for 5 months straight and it doesn't miss a beat. I do recommend cleaning as recommended to keep it running smoothly. The items that need to be replaced frequently are very cheap and you can buy them directly through the company or here on amazon. Maintanance on your humidifier is a lot less expensive than buying a new one.

Very loud and bulky, April 6, 2010
By Alex Reynov

I bought this humidifier because of all of the positive reviews, but I was disapointed right out of the box. The thing is heavy and bulky, when I turned it on it made a loud fan noise and constant sound of running water. I'm sure you can find a better one for the money, I returned it.

Puts lots of water in the air!, March 5, 2010
By Bill (Maryland)
|
|
This product works well. The only problem I have is that it is so fast to put water in the air I need to refill it 3 times a day! Might be nice to have a larger tank, but it would just mean each time I refill it, I would be making more trips back and forth to the sink.
