3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty useful but..., October 28, 2008
By Jerryf
I use this but in some ways it is a pain. It works exactly as you would expect IF you have a simple situation. But, for example, if you have aerobars on the bike, or otherwise a somewhat crowded bar (light, speedo, etc) this gets more difficult. Also, the velcro strap is not very useful since it only "grabs" over about a two inch section so you have to lash it on just so. Further, if you are re-cabling you can expect to have it get in your way. Like I said I use it but... maybe the coat hanger would be better! Or perhaps that old "flickstand" we used to have to hold the front wheel straight (remember it?).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice tool to have, December 11, 2008
By D.Byrd
I find this to be really useful.

Yes, you could bend a hanger or other wire object to serve the same purpose, or you could do what I used to do, and that is use a tie-down or velcro strap to hold the in place. But I like this in that it can be taken off/put on with one hand while the other hand holds the bike or tools. Also, it's coated so that it won't scratch the frame like a coat hanger can.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Another necessary, yet overpriced tool from Park, June 24, 2009
By M. McClain
These types of handlebar holders are essential when working on anything related to the front of the bike. But just like the tool stand, the price is a little high for what you get. Now some may ask me, "Why would you complain about something that costs less that $20?" Well my only complaint is that it ought to be either included with the stand, or cost more like $10. Rubber coated mild steel is CHEAP.

In the end, though, I would buy it again. Just might complain a little bit too!!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Most Redundant Dohicky Ever, January 20, 2010
By Long-rider (Sacramento, Ca. United States)
Take an 1/8th inch piece of bungee cord, tie a loop at each end, move the bike so the back wheel's valve stem is facing forward, lift and move the front wheel so it's valve stem is facing backward, and slip the loops of the bungee chord over the valve stems.

This tether weights a couple of ounces, keeps the wheel straight, AND keeps the bike from rolling so you can take it with you and lean the bike against a post or bench and not have it turn and fall or roll away.

I made my first tether 30 yrs ago touring with panniers and a handlebar bag. I've been using them ever since.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Does one thing and does it well, November 27, 2009
By Matt (TN, USA)
I bought one of these for my bike and soon bought another for my wife's bike. It's great for simple bike maintenance that doesn't require a full bike stand. It even makes airing up tires easier when the bars can't swing around and make the bike fall.

If you have a roof rack, I would very highly recommend one of these to simplify getting the bike on and off the rack. It's secure enough to keep on there for the drive, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  works great!, October 15, 2009
By JD (Phila, PA)
Well made, light weight with thick soft non-marring vinyl coating. Fits both my road and mountain bikes. Perfect to keep wheel straight while on the work stand, and even better for keeping bike stable just leaning against the wall.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Idea, April 7, 2009
By Trevor Reynolds (Farmington, CT United States)
A nice idea, I bought it as part of a package (with PCS-9) so it was a good deal.
If you want to save $ buy a bungee cord.
I like though

5.0 out of 5 stars.  EXCELLENT PRODUCT, August 19, 2010
By Greg (Medford, New Jersey)
Works great - makes working on a bike a lot easier when it is in the clamp. I also use it when hauling my bikes on a rear mount bike rack to keep them from scratching each other. I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  You won't know how you lived without it...., May 21, 2010
By Funkster (Santa Clara, CA United States)
Before I grabbed this beauty, I had no idea what I was missing. It's a simple simple tool that holds the handlebars in place so that's it's absolutely in line with the frame of the bike.

Allows you to perform maintenance without any problems at all.

Just awesome... I have no idea how I did bike maintenance before I had this!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not a Great Value, But Worth It, October 5, 2009
By mattwach (Seattle, WA USA)
If you invest in a mechanic stand, you will want a mechanism to keep the front wheel from turning. You can rig something up yourself or go with this custom-built solution.

What you get is a thick steel wire, coated in plastic with a Velcro strap. They are clearly making a healthy margin on this product!

On the other hand, the holder works really well; quickly and effectively securing the handle bars securely on each of my four bikes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just do it..., August 14, 2009
By Winter Bear (Aurora, CO USA)
OK, a bit pricey for a piece of coated metal and a strip of velcro but considering what we pay for bikes nowadays (and assuming you're also getting a good bike stand) wouldn't you rather have a sturdy non-scratching handle bar holder while doing bike maintenance than a jury-rigged clothes hanger? Just do it- buy it.

Works as advertised. When you have your bike on the stand or even if you want the handlebars straight when the bike is in the car rack, this will do it and for a decent price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The perfect accesory for the Park Tool bike stand, June 18, 2011
By Cracker pro (Las Vegas, NV, United States)
Seems like this should be included with the Park Tool bike stand, because without it the front wheel swings all over the place. It's a worthwhile extra. Does exactly what it says it does...immobilizes the front wheel. Goes on in a few seconds and holds it firmly.

I guess the world is getting used to buying upgrades and options separately in all things from airline tickets to autos to fast food restaurants.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Keep the bars from flopping around, June 2, 2011

I picked this guy up to go with the Park Tools PCS-10 stand. Only thing I wish was that there was a little more Velcro on the strap (thought that would remove some of the elastic portion.)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  necessary, April 24, 2011
By Nikwax (Portland, OR United States)
There really is nothing like having your front wheel whip around on you a couple of times to convince you that you need this thing. Bungie cord, coat hanger: no. This is a rigid, plastic coated hunk of metal that will hold your handlebars mostly steady. Not rock steady, but mostly steady, good enough for front brake and wheel work.

Hecho en USA, if anyone cares. And blue.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  works but...., March 18, 2011

it doesn't fit over taped handlebars, but it still will hold bike in place, so I'm overall pleased and would purchase again as I needed that tire to be in place.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It works, January 29, 2011
By scr1900
This was a nice addition to my Park Tool repair stand. It holds the the front of the bike perfectly inline. I used to use a bungee cord, but for <$17 you can't beat this. Yeah, I guess they are making out on this, but what can you do.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  it is worth buying, January 28, 2011
By D. A. Walker (Trinidad)
After ordering this I started to have second thoughts about whether it was really necessary or worth the money. Now that I have it, I am quite pleased with it. It does make work on the front of the bike easier, and as other reviewers have mentioned, perhaps a homemade version would damage the bike. My only criticism would be that for oversized handlebars or handlebars that have accessories attached (computers, lights etc) it is a bit inflexible. It doesn't really affect the use in any way, it just could be designed with these things in mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  park tool hbh-2 handle bar holder, January 16, 2011
By Mr. Frank R. Straub (Ellenville NY)
Simple tool to assist in maint./cleaning of bike. Sure, you can wrap a bungee around the handlebars, pinch your fingers or accidentally release the bungee so it smacks you in the face. I do a lot of maint. and cleaning and this holder saves time and prevents injury. What price for safety?

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Ahh...., December 9, 2010
By Manny C. (Miami , Fl)
To be fair, it is what it is. What they say it is. So , no wrong doing by Park Tool. That is why I gave it four stars. As far as buying it, it will not be your favorite item , but for +/- $16.00 I don't mind. But I have almost every tool. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Handy to have, September 6, 2010

Okay so there may be cheaper ways to keep a handle bar from moving, but this doesn't really cost THAT much, and it's easy to fit onto the bike. Does it's job. Nothing to complain about.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  handy tool for regular handlebars, November 3, 2009
By G. Powell (Seattle, WA USA)
I tried the coat hanger first and it works but not as well. So I sprung for this gadget and I am glad I did. I just got done servicing the kids bikes for the winter and this bit of wire helped keep the front wheel from swinging around and whacking me. I used Velcro strap just to hold the bracket in place, it has a bit of elastic on it, so no problem with cables etc, or various frame sizes. I can see though that it's bent to fit standard mt bikes and road bikes and probably not super aero triathlon handlebars.

Pro:
Does what it is designed to do very well.

Con:
It is just a bit of heavy duty vinyl coated wire with a piece of elastic and Velcro. You could make one, if you are good at these sort of things.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  It works but is expensive., October 22, 2009
By Hooty Hoot (Amish Country)
This is good when you need it and have not made something to do the same thing; it must work differently with each bike so I give it a 4 due to limitations and price but Park Tools does make quality it is the different configurations that will make this a useful tool for your habit!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A bit expensive, yes, but...., September 14, 2009
By JWW (Ottawa, Canada)
It really does the job well. I have tried home-made hanger contraptions before, and they have never really worked well, or have ended up scratching the finish of my bikes. This is vinyl coated heavy gauge steel. It's worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Helpful Tool, August 25, 2009
By mbzxman (San Jose, Ca.)
Sure, there are multiple ways to save a buck or two in order to obtain the same effect to hold your handle bars from swinging from side to side while you make repairs ------- but then there is "convenience". This little tool is convenient. It matches right up to your bars and top tube to hold everything in place so you can wrench away. It is easy to remove on and off and won't scratch your pretty paint job - so I am sold on this sturdy accessory. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricey for some bent coated metal but then I guess someone has to be paid for making and designing the little bugger.

I bought this along with the adv machanic tool kit and bike stand(all park tool) and it does as advertised. I think the price is a little high but you dont scratch your bike and it has worked all the bikes that i've used it on(5). Good buy but a little pricey for one on a budget....thats the only reason i am giving it 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I Love This!, September 12, 2011
By CDB (Phoenix, AZ)
I use the handlebar holder on my Tommasini. It's a basic drop bar setup like in the picture (no aero bars, no crowded bars, no re-cabling -- I'm not using it for bike repair afterall). It works for it's intended purpose. It holds the bars securely. The bike stays put. It doesn't fall over. And I'm not whining because I have to take it off before I go riding, or put it back on when I'm through. End of story.

Oh, and btw, I'm ordering another one for my cross bike!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  bike handle bar stabilizer, October 13, 2011

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It works., January 29, 2012
By Mr. Bigshot (Washington, D.C.)
I used this in conjunction with my home stand, also from Park Tool, when performing any standard maintenance. It's great for keeping the fork stationary whenever I need to tighten some parts or inflating the tires. Without it, any energy generated through my force would cause the fork to really get in the way. Overpriced? Yes. Is it worth owning. Yes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Does the job., May 15, 2012
By Greenman
This does the job, but I wonder if something like this could be better designed. The velcro strap actually pulls the front hooks up off the handle bar under some circumstances. You have to get creative with how it's clamped to the bike when you have a lot of attachments (bell, etc.) on your handle bars. It's just nice not to have the front wheel not flopping around when it's up on the rack.
