5.0 out of 5 stars.  STRONG SHIELD !!, August 29, 2008
By Paul (Williamsburg,VA USA)
Just got the 45mm black cascadias for my Giant Cypress hybrid with 700c, 38mm tires last night and installed them easily - they were just wide enough. I had to do some minor re-engineering with my rotory tool because I used a bolt at the chain stay bridge instead of a zip tie as suggested by the instructions. I simply cut the zip tie notch out to the end of the fender so it could slip over a pre-installed bolt. My bike had an existing threaded hole at the bridge to accept the bolt. Beside this, installation was still easy. The polycarbonate is strong but flexible and easy to work with. The stays are very sturdy and the smart hardware set-up allows for easy and quick fine tuning. Got up this morning and noticed the wet roads outside so I couldn't wait to try them - Wow! what a difference! Kept me and my bike clean and dry and they look great!
--------------------------------------------------------
Update - 22 Dec 08: It finally happened... A stick jumped up and caught the rear fender stays. The fender folded in three places and was tightly stuffed under my rack. I thought it was destroyed but removed the rack, pulled the fender back out, adjusted the stays and was on my way. Three creases are still visible but it did not break and still works as new - I bought a set for my wife's bike! By the way, my black fenders have no "Planet Bike" logo on them but the silver fenders I got for my wife's bike do... on the rear fender only and I think it looks cool. The logo is white and has a shadow effect against the silver coloring inside the polycarbonate.
--------------------------------------------------------
Update - 16 Dec 09: More of the same... these fenders continue to perform flawlessly. I would not own a bike without these fenders installed.

Update - 8 Mar 2011: Still working great but wanted to say that it looks like the description here has changed. When I bought my 2 sets there was no mention of "ALUMINUM" in this description. It seems that recent buyers are expecting aluminum and not getting it. To clarify what I have - they are 100% polycarbonate with stainless hardware and attachment points - no plastic except maybe the softer mud flaps. Bummer for the reviewer who got plastic attachment points... Yikes... sounds like a big change in quality. Hope this helps and as always - Buyer Beware! The polycarbonate has proved to be of excellent quality on my fenders.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fenders - 700c NOT 26", October 14, 2007
By zip22
Despite the name, the planet bike cascadia hybrid fenders are 700c size (road bike), not 26" (mountain bike). Aside from the wrong name, the fenders are excellent. The mud flaps reach very low which is exactly what you want fenders to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Full Coverage Fenders, November 11, 2008
By Lover of great Science Fiction, Mysterie..
Good product, easy to install. No rattle.

The attached mud flaps are much better than the PB Hardcore ATB fenders and look better too. Rear mudflap goes about six inches longer than on the PB Hardcore ATB fenders. If you are trailering your dog or kid behind the bike I'd go with these to keep from throwing road crap in their face.

There is a PB logo imprinted on the rear fender which detracts from the clean look otherwise I would have given them five stars (but the logo is dark purple and not too visible) .

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, excllent company, August 15, 2009
By http://www.jimcarson.com (Bellevue, WA)
I've had these fenders on my road bike for the last ~2 years, some 10000+ miles, and they're great: the flaps minimize the gunk splattering and the fenders have stayed adjusted. (And they look good.) I'd been experimenting with slightly wider tires and didn't realize it had worn off part of the rear clamp. Fortunately, Planet Bike is awesome in its forward-thinking and makes replacement parts available for a very reasonable fee. I've since picked up a second set of fenders for my long-distance bike.

They're a great product and essential for year-round commuting in the Pacific Northwe't.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Doesn't fit all bikes, October 10, 2009
By Thomas P. Mcfarland
First off, these appear to be durable and high quality fenders. However, if you don't have mounts on your bike for fenders (look for little tabs with a hole drilled through them on the frame near where the wheel connects and a hole drilled though the very bottom of the post your fork is on- right above the front wheel) they can be tricky and messy to put on, plan on using a bunch of zip-ties. I managed to mount them on my bike with zip-ties, but they didn't feel very sturdy and they rattled. I am sending them back and got clip on fenders instead (Topeak DeFender FX Bicycle Fender or Topeak DeFender M1 Mountain Bike Fender (Front) for the front wheel and SKS X-Tra Dry Rear Bicycle Fender (Black) for the rear wheel). if you don't have fender mounts you may want to consider this option even if the clip on fenders probably aren't quite as durable. If you do have mounts on your bike for fenders, these are probably a great option. One final bit of warning- you won't be able to roll your bike around on only the back wheel with full length fenders on, this seems pretty obvious if you look at fenders. Probably not a big deal for mort people but if you have to navigate your bike around tight garages or anything it can be an issue.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Good fenders, January 27, 2009
By John Williams (USA)
I like these fenders although I have to agree with the other person who responded with the "Planet Bike"logo on the fenders. It is quite large and realy does detract from the fenders and it can not be removed without repainting over it. Also Amazon did not pack this very well and the tape holding the box shut came open that with the fact that the fenders come in a plastic bag caused me to lose one pice of hardware. PB sent me a new part right away.

They install in a snap and can be adjusted to fit very nicely.
I recommend them but would also give them higher rating if they did not have any crap Corp. logos on them and packed in a plastic bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent bicycle fender for my old Trek touring bike, December 29, 2008
By Alam (USA)
Very useful on rainy days, no more splashes on my back- even protects the lower part of the frame, chain and other components from excess dirt and water. Now that I have it on bike, I wonder why didn't I use it earlier! All of my other bicycles are getting their own.

It came with all the necessary hardware and took only about 30 min to install, very easily done!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for a commuter bike, May 2, 2009
By D. Reid
I commute to work in Seattle, so fenders were a must. I managed to fit these on my Trek 1000 road bike, though it is a very tight fit. Once they are on, they work very well. I still have trouble positioning the rear fender tightly, but it is due to the low clearance on my brake calipers. I can see these working perfectly on a touring or cyclocross frame. Overall, I am very happy with these fenders.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Fenders, what can you say, June 23, 2010
By Benjamin T. Caudill
The fenders are well designed and constructed. The two rivets keep the mudflap well aligned and the mudflap is large and effective. Great built in adjustment in the fender design. The only complaint is that they don't have a extension for the tab on the front fender for suspension corrected rigid forks. One is easy to make but it would be nice if the influded one for the extra 60 cents it would add a lot of value.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Work great; annoying logo, June 11, 2009
By Mbirds (Alexandria, VA)
I just tested these on my Surly Long Haul trucker with 26x1.5" tires. They fit perfectly and mount fairly easily. The mud flaps are great. Last weekend I rode 100 miles on the dirt and mud C&O canal trail. There were many 50-foot long 3" deep puddles, and these kept me and the bike almost dry with only a little mud on my feet and the bottom bracket.

It was great to ride through a long muddy puddle and just watch the water stream out of the fender, instead of covering my water bottles, legs, back, and derailleurs.

They have already made themselves worth the purchase, and will be great for commuting.

As mentioned by the other reviewer, the Planet Bike logo on the rear fender is huge and cannot be removed. I may cover mine with a strip of reflective tape.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Coverage, but Logo too Big, April 1, 2009
By Ian T. Hegarty (NYC)
I commute to work in NYC, 12 miles RT. These well designed fenders are just what I needed for my 1986 Peugeot with 26" wheels. I had to do a little bit of fiddling to get them to fit perfectly, but that's always the case with full coverage fenders. These things really do what they're supposed to do. I've had a few rain rides and these babies virtually eliminate road spray on your feet and legs. I've also driven through plenty of nasty garbage water (the real reason for fenders on a commuter rig) without getting crap on my clothes or my frame.

My only complaint is with the logo, the prominence of which is not made clear in the photograph here. I love Planet Bike and everything, but I'd rather not make my bike into a rolling advertisement, thanks. I realize that most people don't care about such things but I thought I'd point it out for folks who are concerned about the aesthetics of their ride.

All in all, a great fender at a fair price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Stylish and Functional, February 22, 2008
By Belal Homaidan (Boston, MA USA)
I recently purchased these fenders for a modified magna mountain bike I own with dual suspension. I was a little skeptical at first that I would be able to attach these to the bike, considering the model type and the fact that my bike has 24" wheels instead of 26" wheels and the mounting brackets on my bike aren't considered standard. I had to use some of my own screws and re-bend the rods to fit correctly. (I doubt a user would have these problems with a regular bike.)

Once I hooked them up, they worked amazingly. The silver color goes well with the yellow black frame, and it contrasts nicely with the tires. The rubber pads at the bottom are also a nice touch. I've recieved lots of compliments already.

As far as working the 26" fenders down to 24" tires... I did have to put them under tension while I fastened them. And I plan on shortening the rear fender soon because it is too long for my bike.

If you're worried about the fenders scraping against the tire after a fall, the metal rods can easily be bent to re-align the fenders.

And They don't rattle!

I would recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  really great fenders, June 30, 2010
By T. Burgess (Tulsa, OK)
I've just posted a few pictures. I bought a set of silver fenders at my LBS, and really love them. They fit very well on my wife's Trek Pure deluxe bike, and the silver color really enhances the look. I didn't have too much trouble putting these on, I had to take another set off first which I bought here and they didn't work. (SKS Beavertail Bicycle Fender). Because of some details on the bike, like mounting holes, I could not use the long screws to mount the top part of the rear fender to the cross bar on the seat stay. I had to use a short one supplied, however, this led to a shortage of screws for mounting the fender brackets to the wheel hubs, so I had to find one of my own, but it was a tad long, so I mounted it in from the inside of the hub frame. (I did email Planet Bike a few days later and they sent me 3 more screws which were actually better since they had an attached washer). Their customer service is wonderful. Personally, I think they could have included an extra screw or two for those bikes with different configurations.

But apart from that, I and my wife love these fenders, and they do work at keeping all the rain and mud off of everything, especially me when I ride behind her.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Fender Fail (Doesn't Fit Sirrus), December 7, 2009
By Stacy D. Rosenstock (New York, NY)
UPDATE: May 1, not quite five months since I finally managed to install these fenders, the front fender failed. I was making a slow turn into a bike lane when I experienced the much dreaded toe overlap - where the rider's foot interferes with the front wheel. This isn't uncommon with small framed bikes that have large 700c wheels but it's usually more of an annoyance than anything else.

Maybe it was the pressure from my foot on the thin plastic that caused the front fender to fold under itself which resulted in the bike coming to an abrupt stop, causing me to fall. I can only be thankful that it happened in a buffered bike lane rather than in traffic, and that I only sustained a sprained wrist. I'll be removing these fenders as soon as I regain use of my left hand.

==============
Original Review

Its been two days since the fenders arrived and I began trying to install them on my '04 Sirrus. I had previously used Planet Bike Hardcore Road Fender so I presumed these would be similar. Right out of the box I noticed they appeared quite slim and although they're recommended for tires up to 700x28 they're a close fit on my Armadillos 700x25.

The 42m bolt supplied was a bit too short for my Specialized Sirrus fork so I would up using the old bolt that originally came with the Hardcore Fenders. The plastic clip that secures the rear fender to the brake bridge was a press fit on my old Hardcore fenders and held the the fender firmly in place. On the Cascadia the same bracket has a loose fit and will slide up and down the fender. More importantly these fenders lack the metal tab that hooks onto the chainstay connector and helps keep the bottom portion of the rear fender in place.

Like others have mentioned, I also had a bolt in the chainstay connector so I cut a slit to slide the fender over the bolt. What I didn't anticipate is there's very little clearance with the front Nexave Derailleur. As a result the fender is pushed back and winds up rubbing against the rear tire. While this worked perfectly well with the old Hardcore fenders, (secured by previously mentioned clip) apparently it wasn't sufficient for the Cascadia. The rear fender immediately began to rub against my rear tire.

Further reading on Bikeforums indicates some Sirrus owners have gotten around the front derailleur problem by upgrading from Nexave to Tiagara which is a bit more work that I envisioned when I decided to add fenders. Maybe I'l just cut them back a bit and bypass the whole derailleur area.

So far the only good thing I can say is that Planet Bike provided some long bolts that allow me to mount the fenders in the same eyelets as my rear rack. Now if I can only get the fenders installed securely that should be a real plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, even if description is odd.., November 18, 2008
By C. Roush
The product is very nice, as described, though it's black--this is mentioned in the text, but the photo is of the chromoplastic set.

As with most bicycle parts, it took a little tinkering to get this fitted to my liking. It could use longer arms in the front for taller forks like mine.

I ride a Trek 7100 converted for commuting (drops, saddle, tires, wheels have all been changed out), and these are a great addition to my 75 mile-per-week commute.

Logos are fairly discreet (which I prefer), and the product seems very solid.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent fenders for keeping dry, August 29, 2011
By Seth Horning
I've been using these fenders on my bike for the last year. I ride year round so I needed something that would keep my bike mostly clean and my feet and back dry. These are a good solution. They are fairly easy to set up taking 20-30 minutes. The harddest part was getting them to fit closely to the tires without touching at any point. It took me some finagling, but after a while I was able to get it set properly. Other than that, they are well constructed, come with plenty of hardware to make them work with your bike, and the instructions are clear. They also come with a mudflap for the front and back fender which greatly reduced spray near your chain and feet. This is a big plus for me. It didn't seem to interfere with turning, or getting caught going up and down stairs either. Overall, great set of fenders.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great 4-season, 700c/26" solution, July 14, 2011
By David Bump
I thought the original Freddy Fender ATB fenders (now marketed as "Hardcore", I think) were awesome when they came out. I've ridden with them for more than 5 years on two bikes, all winter, into downtown Denver. They only had two drawbacks: they were not designed for disc brakes, and the mud flaps would twist, and then catch on the lugs and studs of my winter tires (26x2.1).

The Cascadian resolves both of those. The very simple extension tube mount works great with my disc brakes, and is very securely mounted. The mud flaps are much longer, but are also better secured, with two rivets, and they appear to be a firmer and thinner material, so the tolerance between tire and fender can be that much closer. I haven't ridden with my winter tires yet, but I have spun them up on the repair stand, and there's no chance they're going to catch the flaps. Part of that is the clearance afforded by the 29er diameter of these fenders.

For an all-weather commuter, that is the best feature--these fenders easily accommodate both 700c road tires and the tall lugs of the 26x2.1 Nokian Extreme, without adjusting the fenders when swapping wheels out. The second best feature is the extended mud flaps, which significantly reduce the amount of spray from the front wheel that soaks your shoes. I just rode through rain that would normally have soaked my socks, but instead I had dry socks, and lightly damp shoes, which may have been caused by cars splashing, rather than my own wheels.

There are two minor differences, aside from the flaps and disc mounting hardware:
First, the Freddy's used a spring clip to secure the front of the rear fender to the chainstay bridge. The Cascadian's simply have a hole drilled in the fender, and instruct you to secure that to the bridge with a ziptie (included). I don't think this is a bad thing, but it is different. The spring clip is metal, and does rust, and occasionally comes loose on particularly jarring sections of road. As long as the zip tie doesn't snap in the cold, it'll be more durable, and more adaptable to different frames.
Second, the Cascadian comes with V-shaped fender stays, instead of two separate stays for each side. This is very nice--instead of doubling up two stays at each frame bolt point, there's now just the thickness of one stay; it's more rigid as well.

I don't expect any problems with these, as they're otherwise the same materials as the Freddy's, which I've ridden on extremely rough, potholed roads for many seasons.

I've uploaded an image of the front fender mudflap, with notes. It should be obvious how much longer it is than the older Freddy style flap.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  perfect, May 14, 2011

4.0 out of 5 stars.  29er with Disc Brakes (65mm Fenders), April 21, 2011
By Jaun Carlos
The wide 65mm fenders provide adequate coverage for the 700x50c knobby tires and 700x40c smooth tires I run on my 29er. The kit includes spacers for use with disc brakes (to let the stays clear the brake caliper), which is great because my bike has disc brakes and it would not work without these spacers.

Keep in mind if you are buying these for a bike with disc brakes: Getting the fenders lined up correctly is a chore. You have a couple of options: Bend the stays on the brake side of the wheel (what I did), or go out and get extra spacers and bolts so that the stays are mounted equidistantly from the wheel. In lieu of using extra spacers, one could get 2 extra 42mm bolts, 4 extra washers, and 4 extra nylock nuts and simply clamp the stay in between a nut, washer, washer, and the head of the 42mm bolt, and then use another nut+washer at the base of the 42mm bolt to secure it to the frame (prevent it from slipping). If you take this route make sure you get Nylock nuts, or if desperate, use loctite. Do all of this at your own discretion of course.

My kit had: 3 x 42mm bolts (5mm alan head), 7 washers, 4 x 12mm bolts, 2 x 8mm(hex head size) Nylock Nuts, 2 x 25mm bolts, and several zip ties. The zip ties are included for use with bikes that don't have eyelets on their brake bridge or chainstay bridge (or for bikes that don't have a brake/chainstay bridge).

A note on durability: I have owned these for a limited amount of time, and am not an avid off-road rider, so I cannot speak with authority as to their worthiness for mountain biking, however, I can offer my observations from standard road use: The fenders handle vibrations and rough roads just fine. There is a bit of shaking on rough roads, but this is to be expected. The polycarbonate material seems to be fairly resistant to impact, however the aluminum stays that support the fenders are somewhat pliable, and will most likely bend if the fenders receive a significant impact from above (don't step on them).

What would make these perfect: thick, flat polycarbonate or carbon fiber stays instead of thin aluminum, and the ability to mount and perfectly align these on a disc brake bike without any bending (just include extra hardware).

3.0 out of 5 stars.  45mm Silver Version, February 24, 2011
By Eric Bohn (Largo, FL)
I just ordered, recieved and installed these "Planet Bike Cascadia Front and Rear Bicycle Fender Set with Mud Flaps". I would have oredered them in black, but they were only available in pink and silver. What I receieved from amazon was the 2009 model 7056, this is not identical to what you see in the picture. The model I recieved looks exactly like what you see in the picture for the "Planet Bike Cascadia Full Hybrid/Road Bicycle Fenders - 45mm" advertised here: http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Cascadia-Bicycle-Fenders/dp/B0046JL172/ref=pd_sbs_sg_8.

I ordered these "Planet Bike Cascadia Front and Rear Bicycle Fender Set with Mud Flaps" even though they were $6 more and not available in the color I wanted because they were advertised to be of aluminum construction. As the previous commenter noted, these are not aluminum, they are polycarbonate. However, contrary to what another commenter noted, the model 7056's I recieved have plastic breakaway tabs for the front fender (but not the rear) just as can be seen in the picture I linked to.

I plan to install a front pannier rack on my bike as well, but my front fork only has one set of eyelets to use as attachment points, so I will need to attach both the fender and rack through the same set of eyelets. The problem with the plastic tabs is that I don't think they are strong enough to withstand the torque necessary if I want my rack to be secured tightly.

One more problem is that the hardware only includes 7 flat washers (in accordance with the inventory on the included instructions). The kit should include one washer for each axle eyelet, 1 washer for the bolt that attaches the front fender alignment tab to the front fork and one for the nut, and again 1 washer for the bolt that attaches the rear fender alignment tab to the rear frame and one for the nut, and again a washer each for the bolt and nut used secure the rear fender to the frame bar behind the bottom bracket. I had kickstand installed on my bike so I zip-tied the rear fender bottom brack tab to the frame instead and used one washer each for the the other frame tabs. Since some of the nuts are being screwed directly against the frame, I plan on filling around them with rubber cement or something to prevent the exposed and scratched frame metal and bolts from rusting.

So why did I give the product 3 stars? Well despite the problems I experienced, they are still fairly sturdy, easy to install, and look almost as if they could have been stock if you adust them good. You'll need an 8mm and 10mm crescent wrench or a small adjustable crescent wrench to work with the adjustment nuts. The crecent wrenches are not included, but most people have that anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  read carefully, February 23, 2011
By groundrules
This is a pretty nice bit of kit, but the description makes mention of aluminum in both color and materials description. I didn't read carefully enough to note the use of the word 'aluminum' though. Make no mistake about it however- these are polycarbonate fenders, not aluminum. The only metal is in the mounting hardware. I'm sure they're fine, just not exactly what I thought I was getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fabulous Fender Fitment!, January 16, 2011
By Danielle S. Glaser
This is a bit early since I just received these fenders the other day, but I've already installed them (45mm) on my 1984 Centurion ProTour and given them a few good rides. I can't imagine the installation being more painless. The instructions were clear, with all hardware you might need included. Without a bike stand, this is definitely a two-person job! While the instructions showed the front fender being put on with the wheel left in place, I had to remove mine. The only other variance was that I had to bend the mounting tab that attaches to the front fork. I used pliers to tilt it forwards some so that it wouldn't rub on the bottom of the head tube while steering. The rear fender was straightforward with no issues whatsoever. Once you get them dialed in so that they don't rub and then tighten them up, the fenders stay in place and look great too! Some reviewers have complained about logos, but my black pair didn't come with anything except the PlanetBike symbol stamped into the mudflaps (uncolored). The rain just started up again, and these give great coverage - no water sprayed onto me, my bike, or back onto my kids' trailer. I've gone over speed bumps and other turbulence at nearly 30 mph, with no rubbing or rattles. The fit is so flexible and sturdy, with such little added weight, that it seems like they aren't there at all! Lastly, I couldn't find a better price anywhere else ($26.90 with free shipping for black 45mm ones, do an Amazon search for 'Cascadia Fender' without including 'PlanetBike') I will be sure and update if I have any problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Full Coverage Fenders, January 11, 2011
By beathiswon
After comparing the coverage and features of other fenders available, including the SKS version, I find that these are among the best lightweight full coverage fenders to be found. The included mudflaps really help to give extra coverage in the rain and mud and these give the greatest amount of coverage of any fender I have seen. These have plenty of adjustment to fit almost any bike and as aftermarket fenders go, are very easy to mount with the hardware provided. Anyone with a minimum of mechanical skills should be able to mount these themselves. Very sturdy and well made. You would have to buy aluminum or steel fenders to find anything sturdier. Planet Bike also sells spares if any of the parts need replacing. I do have 2 minor complaints. The first is that I wish they had a mounting breakaway feature for the front fender such as what SKS uses so that if something jams between the wheel and fender the stays break away from the mounting points preventing crashes due to a locked up front wheel. The second is that PB uses a plastic rear brake bridge mount which is probably OK for most but metal would be more durable and bends rather than breaks. Although PB claims the 35mm Cascadia can handle up to a 28mm tire I think that some brands (Michelin for sure)will be too wide for this size fender and would recommend going to the next wider version.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fenders, November 7, 2010
By Audioengineer
These are really nice fenders for the price. They are easy to install and they work well. It's a bit tricky to align them properly, particularly if you have wider tires, but once set up they don't rattle and do their job.

I have 38c Specialized Hemisphere tires on my bike and these fenders are just barely wide enough. I wouldn't really recommend them for anything over a 35c.

Planet Bike is a great company. They have terrific support, keep replacement/repair parts in stock, and donate 25% of their profit to bicycle advocacy groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fenders, October 21, 2010
By bikerguy
I've been using these fenders for about 3000 miles and have to stop and compliment the designer. They were easy to attach to my 1977 Austro Daimler commuter bike, and the stainless steel hardware looks as good as the day they were installed. I do "bus&bike" in the morning and rest the bus rack clamp right on the front fender. I no longer fear arriving at work with a muddy stripe up my rear end on days when there's unexpected rain. My shoes stay dryer and warmer with that monster mud flap. The narrow fenders I got for this road bike won't swallow the larger commuter tires I've considered, but they are ample for the 1" and 1 1/8" currently used. I feel this product allows me to take the bike on more days that might be wet, and any day that I don't drive is a great day.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  almost all there, October 15, 2010
By skibuss
Received the package and began to put the fenders on the bike and dicovered
one of the bolts for the sliding rods was missing, looked all around the cement area I was working on and can only conclude that it was not in the
package sent, It could easily have come loose during packing.I was able to make
my own bolts and nut to handle the situation
I would suggest the maker add at least ONE OR TWO spares of this special bolt
with a hole in it and the nut because they can come looseas in my case during packing by the sender or after assmebly while riding.
it would be a nice gesture for this product. othewise it is a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Impressive coverage, great materials -- but make sure you have the right mounting holes, September 28, 2010
By LemurTech (Ashland, Oregon)
Silly me. When I checked my Giant Sedona DX (2003) for fender mounts, I was only looking at the back tire and the fork crossbar in front; I did not check the front forks for threaded holes right above where the wheel connects. So while mounting the back fender was easy, the front was a bit trickier. Fortunately, I did have some non-threaded holes on the left front fork so that I could bolt the fender stays on, then use two zip ties to fix the stays on the other side. The fit was secure, and looks decent and symmetrical enough; however, the length of the stays protruding above the fender is different on either side. When I can find the right tool, I'll need to use a pair of strong wire cutters to trim them down. I looked in vain for an online image of the mounting instructions. That would have been helpful before purchasing, but I can't really fault Planet Bike for this little complication.

So the point is, check your bike for the proper mount points, and have a plan in place before you order these really well-made fenders. I can't wait to put them to the test, but just to look at them I have no doubt they will be a real blessing during my short commute to work in the Oregon rain. Others have commented on the Planet Bike logo, but if you order black fenders then the logo is dark enough to appear discreet and even tasteful. They look classy on the pair of black and silver Giants I and my wife ride, and the polycarbonate seems very durable.

I'm not yet well-versed in bicycle-ese, and if you are not sure which size you need and don't have a knowledgeable person handy, I suggest going to the Planet Bike site and checking the wheel measurements they give there.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Value/ A Must for Commuters, September 16, 2010
By Mike on a Bike
I ordered these after trying basically everything else, meaning mud board (awful), cheap black plastic fenders (a big improvement) and Cascadias. These fenders are great. They keep you and your bike clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Heavy duty, August 29, 2010
By Craig S. Prior
I put these on a Trek hybrid as replacements for some Bontrager fenders that lasted all of 3 months. The problem with the Bontragers were these plastic clips securing the stays to the actual fenders. Of course a couple of the clips broke... there are no replacements available... Bontrager customer service could offer no solution other than to purchase all new fenders. Hopeless.

So that was my frame of reference when I decided to go with Planet Bike Cascadias. I put them on, made sure they didn't rub against the tires, and I have not had to think about them since. They are rock solid.

When I received them I noticed they were heavy... at least in comparison to the Bontragers. But the Cascadias are built like the proverbial brick outhouse. The attachment between the stays and the fenders are adjustable and use a 10mm nut. The mudflaps are thick, long, and functional. The rear fender has a long "Planet Bike" logo but, hell, considering how well they work I don't mind doing a little advertising for them. They deserve it: may many see that logo and decide to buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great coverage, no rattles, February 8, 2010
By Lynn (Austin, TX)
I bought the 45mm fenders for my hybrid, which has 700x35mm tires. I've ridden that setup for about 6 months. The coverage has been absolutely excellent. The mudflaps extend quite low and really keep the bike clean and my feet dry.

Fenders are almost always fussy to install. These were easier than most. I like that they came packaged with locknuts for every bolt; on past fenders I've had to go over every single bolt with Locktite. These fenders were very easy to adjust, and they stayed in adjustment with no excess rattling.

The 45mm fenders say that they are for "hybrid/touring" but they did not make the transition to my new touring bike well. New bike (Surly LHT, 52cm) has 26"x1.5" tires. The fenders are just barely not wide enough; although the bike stayed reasonably clean, my feet really got soaked. The fender circumference is also a poor fit and makes an unpleasing visual line around the 26" tires. I've ordered the Cascadia ATB fenders to try because I was so pleased with how the 45mm fenders worked on my hybrid.

Edited to add: The ATB fenders give much better rain coverage on my Surly. After going through some mud and light rain today my bike was clean and my feet dry. However, the fenders sit very far out from the wheel - almost an inch out. I could wish for a longer L bracket at the top of both the front and rear fenders, and a spacer at the chainstay bridge to decrease this excess amount of clearance and even further improve the rain protection.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Overall, November 24, 2009
By Some Guy (Minneapolis, MN)
These fenders are very solid and pretty easy to install. I had to tinker a bit in order to make them fit just right, but it wasn't that bad. These are the only fenders I have experience with and I would definitely buy them again.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fenders, September 16, 2009
By Kenneth Gilmer
These fenders are high quality, light, and come with great mounting parts. I mounted them on an 80's era steel univega road bike converted to a single speed and 700c wheels and they fit perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent accessory for the daily commute, August 18, 2009
By TimRex (Central NY)
I couldn't imagine biking to work on a daily basis without these fenders. They went on fairly easy and have stayed straight for the most part (had to adjust them though after putting the bike in a trunk at one point).

They keep the spray off your back and minimize it on your feet. Anyone who thinks that fenders will keep your feet entirely dry if you ride through puddles is delusional though. :) But they do help greatly. I would highly recommend these. They're well worth the money I paid for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fenders for a great Bicycle Surly LHT, August 3, 2009
By KDC1956 (Arkansas)
I really do like the looks of these fenders on my new Surly LHT Touring Bicycle. Some people don't like the logo on the fenders. But I don't mind it at all its like when you buy a new car they put there logo on your car so what's the different???To me it just lets people know what brand of fenders you are running on your bicycle that's all.To me these look way better than the SKS P65 Fenders I'm not saying the other fenders are not good at all.I just like these fenders way better that's all.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good buy, June 3, 2009
By Allegra Legrande (New York, NY)
These work well. They even fit my rather large hybrid tires.

My previous fenders had 'clips' that connected the fender to the metal frame/ bike attachment -- this broke easily.

These fenders are very secure and look great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Exactly what I was looking for..., April 30, 2009
By Joe Average (Somewhere, TN)
Update 06-27-09: Still wokring great.

I am building up a medium duty commuter e-bike. Wanted to avoid that dirty stripe down my clothes or wet legs if I get caught by wet roads. Hey - the Dutch folks know how to use a bike... Racks, baskets, fenders, etc...

These fenders fit my the back of Trek 4300 mtn bike perfectly. All the necessary mounting holes and bolts already existed for the rear fender. Removed the back wheel and it was done in 10 mins. Bolts included in the kit threaded into my bike frame perfectly. I did need to shorten a couple of bolts. Go to the hardware store or use a hacksaw. I used my DeWalt angle grinder...

The Trek did not have any of the mounting holes for the front fender. I ended up zip tying the bottom supports to the bottom inside of the fork tubes. I'll look for some rubber lined pipe clamps at the hardware store. Should be the perfect solution if the hardware store has the right pipe clamps. The top mounting bolt was easily added with a drill to the "horseshoe" that makes both sides of the fork work together.

Width was perfect to clear the stock 26" and wide mtn bike offroad tires. Will switch to wide smooth side tires more suited for street use as I install the rear e-bike motor/rim and my spare front rim. When I turn hard sometimes the fenders flex a little and the sidewall tire cleats do rub the fender support wires but no damages and just an annoying rumbling sound. The fenders do flex alot. Metal would be stiffer but heavier, bend-able, and potentially rust.

Looks like I could remove these fenders in another 10 mins to go hit the trails if I wanted. VERY adjustable.

Bike is very functional and looks great with a combination of yellow frame, black cargo frame, black wheels and handle bars, and the black fenders.

Next - mounting the e-bike components...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fenders!, February 5, 2009

These fenders took a bit of engineering to fit properly, but once installed they look like they will work well. They cover a 700 x 42C tire with room to spare.

These are very light. But the length of the wire holders are almost to short. I was able to get the right angle on it so its working. Took about an hour to get it just right.
