You have to flick your thumb in order to ring this bell. When your coming up behind people and your ringing it they don't even realize the noise. As I was ringing the bell, I passed someone and they were like "oh I didn't know what that sound was"...So if you want a loud recognizable bell then don't get this one. It's not worth it.

Perfect only for pedestrians and bike paths., July 31, 2009
By Desert Rat (Tucson, Arizona)

This is a really nice bell with a sharp, crisp, pleasant sound. I actually installed two sounding devices on my electrified bicycle. The "very loud" AirZound air horn (for those insulated inside of cars with their windows rolled up, listening to their iPods, talking on their cell phones while drinking a cup of coffee and putting on their make-up while slapping the rowdy kids in the back seat) and this Mirrycle Incredibell XL bicycle bell (for pedestrians and bike trails). This bell does get acknowledged by others on bikes or by pedestrians who simply smile and step out of the way. This is in stark contrast to the rude hand gesture that I once received from pedestrian being warned with my AirZound air horn.
The bell takes up very little real estate on the handlebar (right or left side) and can swivel 360 degrees into position for the easy "thumb flip" action. I recommend the Mirrycle Incredibell XL to anyone needing a sounding device for their bike for bike trails and quiet streets. However, this bell would be totally ineffective in city traffic. For city traffic, get the AirZound horn (world's loudest bike horn). Now, THIS is the one that REALLY gets people's attention.

the perfect bell!, September 21, 2009
By ElvisPresley (Saint Paul, MN)

Loud, yet polite. Easy to use. Being able to adjust the position of the "dinger" is a great feature!
The other bells I've purchase for myself and my family have a relatively short life span, due to too many moving parts. I expect this one to last a long time. Sometimes simple is better.

Very nice bell, June 15, 2009
By orbit1star (USA)

Great bell! Simple design makes a nice loud DING noise as many times as you flick it. Unfortunately, it can't make people any smarter. I'm not even sure I really need it, since people ignore me anyways.

Looks cool - sounds cool!, April 19, 2008
By V. J. Grabauskas (Upper Arlington, Ohio United States)

Most bike bells sound like an old fashioned telephone - brrrrrring. This one gives only a single melodious ding when you press down and release the trigger.

sideways hammer, March 10, 2010
By E. Parker (California)

The direction the hammer points is a bit off, other than that the build quality seems alright. I would purchase again.

It's not a horn., December 19, 2009
By Clyde O. Stephens (Borger, TX)
|
|
I found that the air horn, even when used at its softest volume and shortest beep, scares the pxx out of pedestrians. The Ding of the Incredibell is the proper attention getter.

ding ding, October 31, 2009

Love this bell. Easy to install. Does not ring...it just dings. People hear you coming without sounding like a kid on a tricycle. Good buy for the money.

This basic bell has a dignified look to keep your ride from looking silly with some kiddy bell. The sound is also distinct and loud.

Loud but peds don't recognize it, October 9, 2010
By Jake Mayback
|
|
This is a hammer-style bell, where you pull back a hammer and it dings against the metal once per flick. It is a loud crisp sound however it just isn't that classic, recognizable 'ring-ring' sound that you see used in the movies and such. I would personally go with a crank bell that makes the more recognizable sound. I've used both styles of bell both on a multi-use trail and on the road. People turn their heads at the classic, but nobody really notices this particular bell.
note: I have google alerts set up for my name. Please do not copy my comments onto websites that are not Amazon. This is stealing.

Suprinsingly loud for a 'dinger', April 14, 2011

This is a nice bell. It has a loud crisp sound, much better than other thumb bells. It's not too large either and fits nicely on the handle bar.

Kind of small, flimsy and QUIET!, April 3, 2011
By J. Mazor (Taylor, Mi United States)
|
|
I am not at all happy with this "little" bell. The bell is farily small and flimsy, not to mention quiet. If I had know that this bell was this hard to hear I would not have bought it. Save your money and buy a bigger, better bell, one that someone can actually hear.

Good Safety Gear, July 27, 2010
By John Villani (Santa Fe, New Mexico USA)

I've had mine mounted on the handlebars of my hybrid bike for several weeks. It's loud, easy to use, and unobtrusive. Pedestrians get the message....clearly. Definitely a must for bike safety.

Good little bell, July 4, 2011
By Alan Nicoll (Torrance, CA USA)

The bell is small and only dings once per actuation and the loudness is controlled by how hard you pull back on the striker.

Good Things Come With Two Clear Rings!, June 10, 2011
By T. Ruddy
|
|
The perfect *polite* way to announce your presence to others.
It brings smiles and waves from pedestrians and folks in their yards. It confounds the hard of hearing, 'What the h*l was that?!?'. It delights children and pleases their parents. It soothes anxious dogs and draws further disdain from cats.
It's just plain FUN. :-)
While perfect for back rural country roads, it would be near useless on city streets. It is just what you need when you need just enough.

The Incredible Incredibell, September 15, 2010
By dnew54 (Rochester NY)
|
|
It's name says it all; a terrific small bell that will fit anywhere on your handlebar and the hammer (striker) adjusts 360 degrees around the bell to suit your preference. Ultimately reliable, it only has one moving part of any consequence (the spring-loaded hammer). One flick of your thumb and you get one fairly loud and clear *ding* of the bell. I like the fact that it sits unobtrusively on my black handlebar until needed. For less than $15 with shipping and applicable sales tax, you can't go wrong buying this bell. I ordered mine from BikeWorldUSA and had it within several days; great service as always from them. Everyone should have this bell on their bike for their own safety and that of the pedestrians around them.

It works well, September 12, 2009

This is loud bicycle bell, does what is supposed to do. However I am not impressed with it. If you are looking for something loud and inexpensive then this is the way to go.

Not the best on amazon, April 10, 2012
By Ryan
|
|
I bought this bell because I wanted a simple, one-chime sound when passing people on my bike. I bought this before seeing better reviewed one-chime bells on amazon. I now have both, and this one is not as good. First, it is too high pitched, I think it would be harder to discern to people that I am approaching. Also, it is slightly harder to chime than other bells on amazon.
