4.0 out of 5 stars.  Highly visible... great light, July 19, 2009
By CD (Japan)
This is an upgrade version of another tail light Cateye makes.

Changes for the good...

It seems to be a bit brighter than the previous model. And both were pretty bright. It really does a good job of getting people's attention.

The attachment mechanism does not require any tools. Just thread the strip into the slot and start screwing the knob. Makes it easy add or remove the light and move it from bike to bike.

Been through the rainy season with mine and I can vouch for the fact that it is sealed well against the rain seeping into the unit. Both this new one and old model seem very well designed to keep moisture out. (unlike many lights out there that I've tried that get ruined after a few rides in the rain)

Reliable... I've never had this light (or the previous model) stop working in the middle of the ride. Many other lights I've tried don't secure the batteries well so ...hit a bump and you have no light. Worst of all, with a tail light... you won't know it is off till you get home and see that it isn't functioning and then realize you've been riding in the dark in traffic with no rear tail light. Not good. Not so with this one! Having a tail light that you can rely on to stay on and not go dark on you in the middle of a ride is a real comfort.

Changes for the not so good...

They placed the on-off button on the side and it is indistinguishable from a similarly shaped piece of red rubberized material placed in the exact location on the other side of the light. So I used to find myself pressing on the 'decorative' button on the opposite side of the light instead of the functional one. Got annoying so I marked the right side with a piece of tape.

The button itself is rather small and it is difficult to be certain you're pressing it. A bit annoying.

They changed the way you turn the light off. Used to be you press the on/off button several times(rotate through the functions) until you come to the 'off' function. On the new light, you have to press the button for about 3 or 4 seconds to turn it off. For me, I liked the old way better. I could turn it off in a second...vs 3 or 4.

Conclusion... the good far outweighs the little problems. The light is bright, gets people's attention, is reliable and can take the rain without being ruined.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent product, but something missing from product description..., June 15, 2010
By M. Faries (San Jose, CA United States)
I purchased the "white" version of this Cat Eye bicycle light, thinking the LEDs were also white. No--they're red color lights behind a clear casing, housed in a white-colored frame.

Amazon and Cat Eye should augment their product description to state that the LED lights (for this specific product) are RED color.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bling-bling for night riders!, May 20, 2008
By Ronald L. Jose (GROVER BEACH, CALIFORNIA United States)
I got this for my 26" bmx cruiser and ride at night. Its highly visible, and really gets attention. i mounted it vertically along the seat post, use the "knightrider" flashing mode and it really looks awesome. The unit is nicely built and holds up very well. A white LED version of this would be so cool for the front!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  While the body of the TL-LD610 has improved, the mounting strap is bad, March 29, 2010
By R. Rohan (Houston, TX)
Summary: Body of light has improved, but mounting strap is flimsy and sticks out 3/4 inch.

I have owned a very similar Cateye model in the past that I really liked. So I thought that it was a no brainer to get the upgraded model for another bike.

The body of the light is a slight improvement with an easier to reach button and it seems to be a bit more weatherproof.

It is average in brightness. For those who ride alone at night, you might prefer something brighter. But for early mornings, especially when your with a group, it is bright enough.

However the strap Cateye switched to is flimsy and is hard to tighten down. After one ride I noticed it loose.

Furthermore, the end sticks out 3/4 inch. I prefer the tail light mounted vertically and you cannot do this if you mount it on one of the stays. So I had mounted it on my seat post. The end rubs up against my leg as I ride which is very annoying. The older model had a much more secure mount and did not stick out more than an 1/8 inch.

If Cateye goes back to the older mount then this would be a good tail light. But I have taken it off my bike and replaced it with a Planet Bike Superflash (hopefully the Superflash won't annoy the friends I cycle with for being to bright).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good light, September 25, 2008
By John (Denver Colorado)
now that the weather is getting darker, earlier i picked this up. its great and super bright. i cannot imagine anyone not seeing you with this on your bike. i wear a headlamp on the front and it has proven to be a good combo. a nice plus is that it is super easy to take off/put on so it doesn't get stolen!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  TL-LD610 another good cateye product, January 19, 2008
By Keith (Mobile, AL)
So far so good. It is quite visible from behind. I ride early mornings before the sun comes up and this light is quite visible. I put this light & a planet bike superflash on the back of my bike - good combo to get driver's attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Cateye 5-LED Rear Bicycle Light - #TL-LD610-BR., May 26, 2009
By Philip Grocki (Troy, MI)
A very well made rear light assembly meeting all my positive expectations. It's a real traffic "attention-getter". I highly recommend this unit.

No matter how good your bicycle safety equipment is, ALWAYS ride defensively! NEVER trust the automobile driver to see you, nor for them to make the safe decision. Think the unexpected.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Like it, with one small caveat, November 7, 2010
By DZ (Hawaii, USA)
Overall, this is a great light, extremely bright, with a variety of flashing modes. I understand it's waterproof, which is important where I am. I have the older model this replaced as well (LD600) and the LD610 is MUCH brighter and visible from further away. While the on-off button is different as others noted, it's much less prone to turning itself on or off from a hard bump as the old design did, though it's tiny, and hard to find sometimes in the dark.

The only thing I find irksome about this light that prevents 5 stars is that the strap that is shown for mounting is the ONLY way to mount it out of the box. So you better want it on your seatpost, and as others noted, the end of the strap sticks out, though that hasn't bothered me personally. However, I have a carrier on the back of my bike and since I want to mount this light onto the back of the carrier, I have to special order from CatEye a tiny plastic piece with the square fitting that these lights use. This trivial piece costs $5 and more yet to ship it to my local bike store (they won't ship to individual customers in Hawaii). Most bike accessories usually include a variety of fitting pieces and I'm sure it probably costs two cents to make. If you want to clip the light to clothing, you have to buy that too (only a dollar plus shipping, but still...c'mon Cateye!)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Cateye Taillight...Best bang for the Buck!!, August 22, 2010
By Joe C
I just purchased a bike about a month ago so it has only been a short time before I needed some accessories. I can safely say after receiving the Cateye LD610 (white) in the mail I am extremely pleased. I live in a rural area but the road I ride to work connects two major highways so I needed a bright light for at night. This easily passes the test with its 4 blinking modes and standard all on mode. If you do any kind of night riding on dark roads this light will be worth every penny spent. I turned it on in my home when the LEDs are literally blinding up close. If someone hits you with this taillight they would have to have been asleep at the wheel!

Pros:
Slim Design
Clear Lens
Good mounting for the most part
4 blinking modes
Brighter then most car brake lights

Cons:
Price - $20-$30

Honestly I can't even complain about the price because its a matter of you get what you pay for and this light is an excellent addition to any night riders bike. If you live in the country or think your roads are too dark for anything conventional, this light will do the trick!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Light but 1 small thing, July 22, 2010
By darrin_n (Los Angeles, CA United States)
This is a great light. It is quite bright. Installing the light is to easy, and that is the problem. It can be uninstalled (stolen) easy. I wish it was held on with some type of screws. So if you want to keep your great light, you have to take it with you.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and Flexible bike tail light, July 9, 2008
By Techno Geek (Baltimore, MD USA)
For the price this is a good deal. The selectable pattern option is nice, along with the ability to select if you want the lights mounted horizontally or vertically. THe twist catch makes attaching the lights a breeze. Took me less than a minute to get them attached to my bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fantastic Light, July 1, 2010
By Donald (Greenville, NC, United States)
This light is very bright & noticeable. Easy to use and easy to install. The only drawback, the light has a hard time sitting flush on some surfaces. When mounting to a seat post it's fantastic and solid. When mounting to a bike rack - not so solid. I've had to add a zip-tie to make this a more stable setup on the bike rack.

Regardless - great light for the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very bright, and very wide, October 14, 2009
By D. Back (Brooklyn, NY)
This thing is bright. Super bright. And big. Like wider than my palms. Which created a small problem: if the light is mounted on my seat tube horizontally, my thigh hits it on the downstroke. Fortunately, the light can be mounted vertically just by sliding the light into the mount that way. No hassle. I certainly don't mind it being vertical.

However, if you're very particular about how your light is mounted on your bike, and you have a narrow saddle, this may not be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very bright, March 6, 2011
By Terry Crock (Massillon, Ohio USA)
This is a very bright light, but it is also very directional in that you must be nearly directly in line with the light to get the full effect. It would be better if the light spread out more. It is bright enough, however, to be useful even in daylight.

I like the shape. It can be tucked up just under the seat to keep it safely out of the way of being knocked around.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This Cateye hits the Bull's-eye !!!, February 3, 2011
By beetdaddy
First of all, be aware that the clear/white lens version of this great light IS a red light just as it's black/red lens brother.

I happened to unknowingly own an earlier version of this light that performed well. I opted for the white/clear this time around for another bicycle. I liked the "new" look of it and I suspected that the leds were red and may actually be brighter than having to filter white led light through a red lens. I dont know which is brighter, this or the black/red lens, but I do know that this baby is super-bright.

I recently had to ride at night up St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans without a rear light. I decided I wanted one and I wanted the biggest, brightest one I could get. I think this Cateye hits the bullseye ! It has 5 big leds arranged laterally and offers the biggest and brightest rear signature that I have found. Folks, it aint gonna get much better than this. If somebody can't see this, there is no hope.

I like the easy and convenient switch that's positioned in the middle on the top, right where that little red lable is shown in the picture. You just press it various times to change the light endurance from constant to several flashing modes. Can't be any easier. I don't know how long the batteries will last but they seem to go for a long time. They're also common AAA size instead of some off-the-wall bs that costs more.

There is nothing wrong with the attachment bracket. It's very simple, strong and allows attachment at several vantage points. You DO need to cut-off the left-over clamp material that may stick-out after installation or it could be a snag point but that should be obvious. The light snaps easily in or out of the bracket and seems very secure.

The light works very well, very well. It also looks like the quality it's price would connote. The plastic case is not cheap-looking plain ole white plastic. Rather, it's more of a pearlescent, almost metallic white. I recommend this product. It's not the cheapest thing out there but you get what you pay for ! All in all, it's an inexpensive effort that provides very valuable safety.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cateye 5 LED Rear Light, June 5, 2009
By Vinnie C (New York City)
It Great, everyone will stop you and ask you were you got it and for how much. Nice and Bright and has a Night Rider feature which is cool plus steady on, flashing and random.

One Problem, it's a little wide and when in the horizontal position it was hitting my legs as I ride, so I made an extension which pushed it one inch further back. You can put it in a vertical position if you like.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Cat eye three light, September 22, 2011
By Wj
I bought this light for my wife's bike and I liked it so much I bought one for me also. We ride on a not too busy road but I want the cars to see us and this light does a good job. I like that there are several ways the light can be operated. Best of all you can see me!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best of 3 I tried, September 15, 2011
By Earth Watcher
Note: I have posted this same review to the product pages of all the products listed below.

I reviewed the following products, and have listed them in my order of preference:

1. Cateye TL-LD610-BR 5-LED Rear Bicycle Light ([...])
2. Planet Bike Blinky "7" 7-Led Rear Bicycle Light ([...])
3. Cateye TL-LD150 LED Bicycle Tail and Safety Light (Red) ([...])

1. Was definitely the brightest. It was also the best-built, with the most number of blinking options. It's easy to attach and change the batteries -- all around a good design. The bicycle store clerk also said it was the brightest he had. But they're expensive.
2. Is the best bang-for-your-buck. It's less designed, and not as bright, but still bright enough.
3. I wouldn't recommend this one. It was significantly less bright than the other two.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome, June 23, 2011
By Callie Jones (Marysville, OH United States)
This TL-LD610-BR Red 5-LED rear bicycle light works incredible. I attached this to the seatpost on my road bike and it is VERY bright. The flashing mode certainly gets people's attention. I saw that nearly everyone who past me was turning to look. After attaching it, I stood behind my bike about 20 feet away. It was so bright I could not look directly into the light. It's adjustable in all directions. After attaching it to the seatpost, I angled it up about 5 to 10 degrees, about the same height a driver in a car would be at, and it is obvious when you set it on the flashing mode that it is highly visible.

Highly recommended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Taillight, October 19, 2009
By Terry J. Mull (Dayton, Ohio)
I've been riding with this light for a few weeks now. It installed easily and seems to be very bright. I like running with one of the flashing modes to draw attention. It's my first taillight on a bicycle, but it so far, I think it's a nice light.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Definitely not weather proof..., February 21, 2011
By Topher St-Amour (Brooklyn, NY United States)
Unfortunately, this has been a harsh winter, and I have been toughing it out all season commuting via bike in snow and ice. The Cateye LD610 tail light was no match for it, failing after its first use. I tried to take it apart and eventually got it flashing again, but it drained the battery within a couple of hours. I had to toss it in the garbage. Maybe it would be a nice light if you were to keep it dry; but that's not acceptable for riders like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Taillight My Tail, November 6, 2011
By A casual stroll through t.. (Amsterdam, Holland)
The Taillight itself is very bright, although highly directional. The main problem is the mount itself, it's next to useless and very unreliable and cheap. It won't mount to the seatstay, or front forks if you need it for other light options. Still, a great value for a behind the seat Taillight.

**UPDATE:

I also got the Radbot 1000 Tail Light. I like the Danger Zone tail light better than the Radbot 1000 since it has 2 light lens (more visibility - top LED light, bottom LED light), has a "Flashing mode" and not a Pulse mode (Radbot 1000), and is a bit smaller. The Radbot 1000 is a bit brighter than the Danger Zone Tail Light by only 8 - 15%.

**UPDATE December 22, 2011:

The Danger Zone tail light has failed. For the price I paid, I expected it to be more durable and last longer. I was right about the way to change the batteries. You have to "pry" it open (light lens from plastic). I knew it wouldn't hold up.

Also, my Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 1W LED Tail Light has also failed. For the price I paid, I expected it to be more durable and last longer.

I got the Cateye LD610 Taillight, Planet Bike Superflash Turbo Rear Light and NiteRider Cherry Bomb LED Tailight, 1 Watt Red LED as replacements.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A must have safefy item, November 27, 2011
By Thomas L
This Cateye LD610 is extremely bright and can be seen from blocks away. Most visible when mounted horizontally and on random blink mode. This light is so much more visible than other brands with one or two fixed red lights. It is impossible for a car to miss seeing this light. How many things on Amazon can actually save your life? This can.

This light was intended to replace a light I lost awhile back. It is in fact much better! It is small, but very bright. The mounting system is also very easy to attach, and is very secure. I recommend this to anyone who rides at night.
