The company has developed such innovations as the JowBlow floor pumps with SmartHead technology, which sense and automatically adapt to Schrader and Presta valves without swapping out parts; the award-winning Morph series of mini pumps; the ALiEN multitools, which separate into different parts so cyclists can bring only the tools they need; and the Hexus mini tool and Bikamper personal shelter, which received the prestigious Red Dot award for outstanding design. The most important part of the Topeak story, however, is the passion of the founders and employees, who are cyclists, too. The company is dedicated to making the ride better, and focuses on creating products and accessories to help facilitate an escape from the traffic jams, cubicles, and mind-numbing meetings of everyday life.

Topeak rigid side MTX trunk bag, April 20, 2009
By Darrell Burson (Alameda Calif.)
|
|
This whole product line from Topeak is great. The rack is set up so that the bag can be removed and carried with you (shoulder strap provided!) quickly and easily, and snapped securely back into place. The ones with the fold up pannier bags make for a very versatile and compact cargo unit that can handle, one way or another, just about anything. I chose the model with the rigid sides because, apparently some of the earlier models with soft sides kind of scrunched when the pannier bags carried heavier loads. It seemed a reasonable upgrade and worth the price different. I haven't yet really tested the load limits, but so far it has been able to handle everything I have needed for around town shopping etc..But it seems as though it would be perfect for commuters as well, with room for extra clothing, shoes, lunch, laptop, and whatever. They deserve a design award for this baby. They have pretty much thought of everything.

Redesigned for the worse, August 18, 2010
By Gabor Lukacs (Amherst, MA United States)

Years ago I bought this bag with the same name and I really liked it (that was a 5 star).
Eventually one of the zips wore out, so I decided to get a new one. This time around there seemed to be less selection, but I found my bag with the same name, and the shape on the little picture was even more elegant. Great.
After I received it, I noticed, that the velcro clips were not present any more, so I only could use my new bag on the bike that had the topeak rack, the back basket was not present any more, the top area was simplified and I didn't have place for my tools there any more, and the whole body of the bag was quite a bit smaller. The items that used to fit don't fit any more (like a half-gallon or gallon of juice for example is now too tall. The expandability was retained (still too small) and the side paniers were there too.
All in all, the company is going towards cheapness and occasional use, and the bag is much less appropriate for commuter use with the left-out features.

Poor quality, October 2, 2010
By lk

|
The design of this bag is really great. It would have suited my needs as a grad student perfectly if only the quality was better. It held my lunch, a change of clothes and my laptop perfectly. I went all out and purchased this bag along with the bike rack and rain cover and it ripped after the 6th use! The material used for the side panniers is thin (almost paper-like) and feels very cheap. This bag would be perfect if it were made out of nylon or some other sturdy material. Now I have a rain cover I've never used and a bike rack designed for a bag I can't use because of the huge hole in it. It was a huge waste of money and I'm seriously considering going back to the milk crate/bungee cord method I was using before.

Great Topeak MTX trunk bag!, April 28, 2009
By jack of all trades (Huntsville, AL)
|
|
The rack is interesting and well designed because it mates perfectly with the Topeak Explorer rack. What I mean is that the bag has a hard plastic spine on the bottom that integrates itself with the Explorer bike rack. The bike rack and bag are like puzzle pieces that slide together and interlock perfectly. The rack is set up so that the bag can be removed and carried with you (shoulder strap included) quickly and easily, and when ready to ride, snapped securely back into place. The bag has the fold up pannier sides for a very versatile and compact cargo unit that can handle locks, food, shoes, and other miscellaneous stuff. I chose the model with the rigid sides because some of the earlier models with soft sides deformed when the pannier bags carried heavier loads. It seemed a reasonable upgrade and worth the price difference. I haven't yet really tested the load limits, but so far it has been able to handle everything I have needed for day trips on the streets and trail.

Topeak Rack Required, January 12, 2010
By A. Belback
|
|
I bought this for my commute and for trips to swim laps at the local pool. All the previous reviews sounded great, and it seemed to suit my needs perfectly. I was a bit confused by how it was going to attach to my existing rack tough. I did notice that a "MTX Pannier Side Frame" is required for the racks that only attach to the seat post. But, I assumed this was so that the bag don't get caught in the spokes, and no other part is listed as being required. After rereading the description, I still don't think it is clear that you have to have a Topeak rack because they have a special track that this bag slides into and secures at the end. My existing rack (despite appearing to be nicer than the Topeak ones) does not have this special track, so I have to either look for another bag or spent another $30-40 to get a new rack that looks cheap in comparison.
That being said, if you already have a compatible rack, it is a very nice bag.

Enjoy the Bag- Hate the zippers, January 12, 2011
By Researcher (Oklahoma, USA)
|
|
I bought this bag for my commute to and from college everyday. It holds my books for the day, computer if needed, and a lunch in the top along with pencils and the bike tire tools. Quite a lot of space and I'm not ever concerned of overloading it. The only thing that I don't like are the zippers. They appear to be cheap and bind if you don't get everything lined up exactly. If they break I'll try to replace them because I like the bag and really like the track system to lock it on.
It is a pretty easy bag to carry around when loaded, but even loading is essential. The pannier frames were not necessary for me, just the bag rack. I also got the rain shield which is nice, but the bag is resistant to sprinkles by itself so I've only experienced a couple of hard rains which required it.

Great Trunk/Pannier Combo for Commuting, September 22, 2010
By KP
|
|
I've been using this for a month now, both around town and for my 28-mile RT commutes to work. This thing just rocks. I even took it up on some really rough backwood logging roads last weekend (in the rain, mind you) and it performed very well (while keeping everything inside dry). I love the fold-out pannier set up, so that they are there only when I need them to be. Others have mentioned stitching problems with the panniers, but I have not eperienced anything of the sort.
One thing to note: because my commute can be on some pretty rough road, the trunk will move a few cm's making a bouncing sound that bugged me a little (although it was firmly attached). So I bought a mini 8-inch bungee cord and ran it through the upper loop on the back of the trunk and around the lip of my rack. Worked like a charm. This is a really great product.

Great, great product., June 12, 2009
By Mr. Robert Hebron
|
|
This is an outstanding product but it has to be paired with the custom rack. Together they can't be beat. Slides on and off easily and is completely secure while on the bike.
I can't imagine one without rigid sides either.
The only gripe I have is that the zippers are very likely not going to hold up as long as the rest of the piece and I would have gladly paid more for them to be a better grade. (see review additon below)
I have owned TUMI bags my whole life for this very reason and the zippers on this bag are the only weak link.
I bicycle commute daily 15 miles round trip in Brooklyn, NY so between the elements and riding style necessary to stay alive out there it will need to be tough and I am confident that it will be. (except possibly the zippers...)
One final thing: I ALMOST bought the one with an expanding top but I was afraid that it would have been too big. That was a minor mistake on my part. The bags look much larger in the photos on Amazon than they really are. It is just the right size and I LOAD it up with clothes, computer, food, large Kryptonite lock, camera, dog (just kidding...).
Great product. Well done Topeak.
ADDITION 9/24/09: I have used this bag daily for 17 mile round trip rides in brutal New York City conditions and the zippers and the rest of it have held up beautifully. One of the zipper pulls came off but the zippers themselves have been no problem. I came back to this page as I now need to order the rain cover, something that should really be ordered as part and parcel in the beginning as you will want it if you spend any time at all riding in the rain. The bike's tires kick up all kinds of road dirt and other junk and the bag arrives at the end of the rainy ride filthy and soaked. An almost must-have for anyone who rides with this item in inclement weather.

More room then all the rest!, October 27, 2008
By Greg
|
|
If you want a trunk that secures better then the four velcro strip types and has the option of a ton more room for everyday riding around town or even a two day tour this is the bag for you! It secures perfectly on the Topeak sliding rack and doesn't make any noise on the road. The truck is roomy enough and you can even put some items in the side pockets when they are not down.
I installed them on both mine and the Wife's bikes. We intend to use them for short hotel tours in North Texas area.

Exactly what I needed, October 4, 2011
By AMDombroski
|
|
I've had this bag for about a year, and its exactly what I was looking for. As a bike-commuting grad student, I needed everything to fit and be protected. I could easily fit my 16 inch laptop, several books/notebooks, water bottle, coffee mug, and a lunch in all the compartments. I never sustained any water damage to my possessions when biking in the rain, which is great. Its incredibly sturdy, and hadn't yet shown any signs of wear. The molded panels help the panniers from getting weighed down, and protect the sides from swinging too much. The bag itself isn't terribly heavy, so it doesn't slow me down when biking without all my school items. I love the sliding track (but you have to already have the Topeak rack) and that it locks in place; even on the few occasions I took a spill, the bag stayed on the bike. I definitely have gotten my money's worth out of this.

Topeak or not Topeak?, March 19, 2010
By Cycle Commuter (Alexandria, VA, USA)
|
|
If that is the question, the answer is Topeak! :) I got this bag over the holidays. I use it with my Topeak Explorer rack and love the MTX system. Very convenient. I use the bag for commuting. I find that I can almost always fit everything I need for work (lunch, change of clothes, wallet, ID, etc.) in the main compartment and one of the panniers. That's great b/c it leaves the other pannier available for those quick grocery stops on the way home or to carry home goods from Amazon delivered to work. ;) I can also still easily bungee cord bulkier items (fleece jacket, e.g.) over the top, too. All in all, a GREAT commuter rack trunk.
The panniers fold up and away nicely if you just want a truck and no panniers, which has been my usual configuration for weekend rides.
It's solidly constructed and the zippers and seams have already held up remarkably well to some abuse. I got a rain cover for it, but have only used it when it's REALLY pouring down, b/c for a passing shower, this bag is certainly enough to keep items inside dry.

I recently purchased a Topeak MTX Trunk Bag to go on the Topeak Bike Rack that I also purchased at Amazon.com. The trunk bag snaps securely onto the bike rack. I purchased these items for my son in college to commute to his classes on campus. The MTX bag holds his books and other personal items to get through a full roster of classes. PERFECT for commuting!, August 26, 2010

This bag attaches and detaches so quickly! REALLY makes loading up MUCH easier! Previously, I had saddle bags that straps with plastic latches and it took WAY too much time to hook up. This bag is a breeze. Just make sure you get the rack (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI6WSG/ref=oss_product) and pannier frame (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI6WRW/ref=oss_product). Sure, it's some extra money but it's worth it!

Versatile - one item that fits many needs., October 5, 2011
By T. Filter (Kentucky)
|
|
Started shopping for a rear trunk bag, then I decided I needed more space for my commutes to work, so I started shopping for panniers. Before long I think I was looking at about $250 in just bicycle storage equipment. Then I saw this item. A trunk with folding out panniers for the days when I want to carry extra stuff. This trunk is not the most spacious item out there but it is versatile in the way it carry luggage. In the trunk I like to carry a light jacket, extra tube, pump, light, bike lock, and there is more for a day snack. With the Panniers I like to use for my commutes to work and carry extra shoes on one side, and in the other side, dress pants and shirt and I still can squeeze in a portfolio. Have not tried a laptop, I think it would be possible for a 15", and would want to use an extra padded laptop carrier bag. The material is durability enough to handle most travel conditions. It is water resistant which works for most conditions. It is not water proof. If you planning on being in real wet conditions you better look at the extra rain jacket or shop for true waterproof bag. Most of my biking is in dry or mild drizzly weather and the water resistance is acceptable. The zippers work. The exterior side panniers are rigid enough to support your luggage against the bike rack. There is a handle and shoulder strip to carry the bag once off the bike. Reflective strips for safety. Overall this is a good price and value for what you get.

Best commuter pack!, July 5, 2011
By amytee (Washington, DC)
|
|
I waited a very long time and read lots of reviews before selecting this and I am very glad I did. This bag is exactly what I was looking for. You can install and uninstall it in seconds when paired with the Topeak Explorer Rack. The included shoulder strap makes carrying it around much easier. Although it is a bit bulky when full packed with the paniers out, wearing the strap over your head and across your chest makes it more comfortable and helps distribute the weight better. The paniers are the most versatile you will find. You can have them both fully extended, have just one extended, or have both tucked away neatly when not in use. And when they are extended they can be secured to the rack with the included bungee cords so they won't flap when you ride. There is a plenty of space with all the included compartments. To give you a good example of what it can do, here's a list of the items I needed to carry around on particularly busy days:
-flash drive (fits in mesh bag on underside of lid of trunk compartment)
-wallet (fits in second mesh bag on top of lid of trunk compartment)
-lunch in cooler pack (fits in the trunk compartment)
-bike tools (also fits in trunk compartment, can position the removable compartment seperator to seperate the bike tools from the lunch)
-laptop and charger (right panier)
-change of clothes and shoes/sandals (left panier).
I don't agree with some of the other reviewers regarding the quality of the panier bag material. I feel very comfortable toting my expensive laptop and other valuable items in them. And I have biked in moderate rain twice with the pack without the special waterproof cover available for seperate purchase. All of my items were just fine and dry. So you probably only need that cover in fairly heavy downpours. All in all, one of the best purchases I've made for my bike.

How much work clothes can you fit in it?, July 1, 2011
By Matt (Fairfax, VA United States)
|
|
The reviews for this item were very accurate. This is a well made product. My intended usage for the product was transporting work clothes to my office when I ride to work. So, will they fit?
The main compartment will barely fit two size 13 dress shoes. This is with a little shoving. Size 11-12 should fit perfectly. However, there was then no room for anything more than a single pair of pants. No room for the shirt. I was going to have to unzip one of the side panniers.
A single side pannier fits both size 13 shoes. They take up approximately 3/4 of the horizontal space in the pannier. There is still approximately 2-3 inches left vertically. The front-back depth fits them comfortably with no shoving, pushing, or any stress at all on the material or zipper.
Putting both shoes in side pannier, now leaves the main compartment free for comfortable packing of pants, shirt, belt, wallet, cell phone, etc. I still have the second side pannier completely free for "incidentals.
One final note: The side pannier will in fact fit a 17" MacBook Pro laptop in it. If you intend to do this, I would get a padded slip cover for it, as there is very little protection on the side. But, it is nice to know it fits!

Works well, perfect size for commuting, November 7, 2011

Like most of the other reviewers here, I bought this bag with the Topeak Bike Rack. Mounted easily, and it stays put when I commute to work. When I run to the local market or go shopping, I just drop the saddle bags for extra storage. Very convenient expandable sizes. The supplied shoulder strap is also nice to throw on once I get somewhere.

Is it a robot in disguise?, August 11, 2011
By Nick C Davis (Willmar, Mn United States)
|
|
Bear with me. I may still be on a honeymoon with my bike. I started commuting via bike this year and it's all still very exciting to me. I first bought a Topeak rack and just recently this bag. My previous experience with carrying a bag was primarily using bungee cords and backpacks. Lame, scary, inefficient.
What initially allured me to Topeak was the QuickTrack setup. No tying anything down or bungee cords or anything. You simply slide the bag in place and ride. What interested me in this specific bag was the side bags, which can fold into the bag. This is excellent for picking up a few groceries, transporting books, you name it. On a normal grocery run, I can carry the bag on me into the store (via included shoulder strap), with side bags put away. When I am ready to ride; bags come out, groceries in, click and go. Sooo easy.
When the side bags fold out, they Velcro to the hard flap which contains it when zipped. The bag also ties to the bottom of the rack. In the end, the bag is tied down and doesn't slide around at all.
My ONLY beef with the bag is that when I bike, my foot will occasionally brush the bag if it's full. This hasn't been a huge deal, but a slight annoyance.
Otherwise, everything else is great. Lots of space to store stuff, good quality, portable. Everything I could currently ask for!

Great bag for the money, Almost fits too much stuff, June 30, 2011
By Quinton Baker
|
|
Yes, this bad does seem a little smaller in person that it does online. But it is still plenty big. I have been using this bag for 50 mile commutes on weekends from Madison to Whitewater, WI and I've been able to fit all of my personal items and upwards of 5 changes of clothes in the bag.
I only wish the panniers were a little bigger so I could fit my 17 inch laptop. Well, it fits just I am not able to zip the bag completely shut. I have ridden with my laptop in the pannier and the bag held up just fine (laptop was secure and the zipper hardly budged, if at all).
To be clear, I was NOT able to fit 5 changes of clothes AND my laptop at once, the clothes took up both panniers and the main part of the bag held my other items. The main part of the bag is big enough to hold a spare pair of shoes and some swim trunks and a few other things... making it decent if you are training for tris I guess.
Overall, a great bag and works wicked awesome with the rack it is compatible with. For more information, read the product descriptions on Topeak's website.

Topek manufactures quality, well designed bicycling accessories. Quality and materials are fantastic, very well thought out design. On a scale of 1-10 encompassing price, quality, durability, aesthetics and utility, this would easily be a 9, if not a 10. Works well with the Topek bike rack, just slide it into place and CLICK it is secured. No shock cords to dink with and it's expandable.

This bag is great. I purchased it for those elusive sunny days we have in Michigan, so I can commute to work. It works seamlessly with the Topeak bike rack. The bag itself is very spacious. I usually put my clothes one one side, papers and folders in the other, my lunch, keys, etc., in the top, and my shoes on the top of it with the bungees. It works great!

Topeak Trunk Bag - w/Rigid Molded Panels, July 28, 2010

After reading the reviews of this product I decided to take the plunge and buy one. I'm so glad I did. I am a newby in bike riding (ok, I did alot 30+ years ago when I was younger)and was looking for something that would take the load off my back when riding into work. I needed something to carry my laptop, paperwork, lunch and work cloths. This met my needs. It slides onto the rack, (I purchased the Topeak Bike Rack to go with this) clicks in and I'm good to go. I have had some issue's with the zipper that seems to be a little sticky, but it hasn't broke.

If you are looking for a bag for a trip (a few days or a little shopping), this is it. If you are going longer, then you may want to consider a bigger bag, this bag is perfect for my use. It actually sits low from my seat so I could put a small tent, blanket, and travel pillow on top. It is a good bag. I bought the explorer rack with it and it went on the bike really easy.

I'm not a professional biker, but I do have high expectations. I have a Topeak bike rack and this bag fits perfectly with it. I love how easily it slides on/off and is secure. The panniers have plenty off space, enough to hold my winter coat! I wish the middle storage was a little taller, but it serves it's purpose and is of a high quality for me. Highly recommend.

Lovin' it!, September 24, 2009

Before purchasing, I went to REI to look at it in person. It's a great bag. Made to last and the foldable panniers definately give me the flexibility I like with carrying different things. I would maybe buy the DXP for the expandable main department because this bag makes me want to carry everything with me

Wonderful little carrier!, July 12, 2009

I recently bought this for use with a Topeak Explorer Bike Rack, and it is quite a match made in heaven.
The bag has a surprising amount of cargo room, good means of securing it, and a secure fit with the Topeak integrated quick-mount. I use it to take all of my camera gear around cities for the most part, and it does it well. If you need something for very high cargo (such as use for groceries and the like), you might want to look for larger, however. Great bag all-in-all!

Great For My Tour!, September 21, 2011

I really liked having trunk bag with me on my 5 day tour. It rode quietly and securely on the Topeak rack it is designed for and is a breeze to clip on or remove. It is compact and the rigid molded panels are a plus. The main compartment is very roomy and the the side panniers are nice and deep. It is VERY versatile with all of the options that come with it. If you are looking at riding in driving rain, it would be in your best interest to pack your goodies in plastic; it will let some moisture in but overall performed well. Very happy with this purchase.

Nice case!, September 17, 2011

This slides right onto my topeak rack. I like how it clicks in place. The side compartments open out into panniers. I've used them to carry my notebook, clothes and groceries. It has made my commuting a much more enjoyable experience. It holds a lot more than I anticipated it would carry. Definitely worth considering if you want to commute on a bike.

Better than expected, September 10, 2011

I use the bag with the Topeak rack. With the sides unfolded I have loads of room. The only thing I have been unable to carry is bulk toilet paper. No complaints about material quality. The only con I've found is that the zippers on the panniers have to be lined up perfectly to zip them up. This really only comes into play if I'm on my bike and want to get something out without getting off my bike. There's tons of room and it's all very sturdy.

Solid Trunk Bag, March 12, 2012
By mvigilan

Been using this trunk bag for my commute over the last couple of weeks. It is pretty solid and secures to the Topeak Explorer Rack easily. It has room to store the essentials, and then some. I keep a tube, patch kit, pump, some tools, a paperback book, plus my lunch - and there still is a good amount of room. My U-lock fits in there as well when I need to bring it with me.
The quality of the "pannier" bags are a little suspect. They appear to be flimsy. To be fair, I have yet to use them. However, I am hesitant to do so because they seem cheaply constructed.
I will update after further use, but, as of now, I am happy with my purchase.

Bag from the future!, February 5, 2012

This trunk bag works well with the topeak rack. Over all I like it a lot. My only complaint is that the zippers, especially the top - main one, are really flimsy. They seem like they should be more sturdy, however I have not broken them so it is just my opinion. So far so good!

Awesome bag, January 15, 2012

I got this bag several months ago to use for commuting to work. Its a fantastic bag and it can cary my shoes, clothes, towel, computer, lunch, and bike accessories perfectly. For work purposes, I love how the side panniers zip up so the bag stays nice and compact when you carry it into the office. Now that I've had it for a while, I use it to carry snacks and drinks when I go on rides with my kids and I use it for grocery shopping runs. This is a great versatile and tough bag that works perfectly. I bought the Topeak explorer rack to go with it and the slide and lock feature when you use the rack with the bag is really good. I'm very impressed.

Best. Investment. Ever., November 21, 2011

Purchased this item about four months ago, and I am so glad I did. I've been biking since the beginning of the year, but had been struggling along with a backpack. As I often make trips to the library, the backpack was doing a number on my spine.
This product has been hugely helpful for my chores. I can cram it absolutely full of books, and I've seen no wear or tear from all that weight. I even managed a phenomenally insane trip to Costco, which did involve some rope and carrying bananas by hand, but that was all my fault.
Be a bit careful if you load the bags up, as it will make your bike unstable while resting. That's just physics. But it seems like pure magic when you're on and going, because I've never noticed the weight added on by a full library trip.
Only criticism: doesn't come with anything to secure the back portion to your bike. I've been using a clip, and that's fine, but I'd have like a loop of velcro.

Fantastic Product, May 24, 2012
By Razduck (Oregon)

I purchased this Topeak Trunk Bag a short time ago, and have used it on a couple bike rides. This is just an outstanding product. It was able to hold a rain jacket for both my wife and I, not to mention our bike locks, a small lunch and a couple extra bottles of water. The bag and panniers were pretty well full up, but that was a lot of stuff packed into this trunk bag. The panniers fold up easily, and I especially love how the "Quick Trax" system allows easy attach and detach of this bag. I highly recommend this trunk bag, and look forward to many years of great service from this high quality product.

It's exactly what I needed. Holds lots of stuff. Easy to attach to bike and remove. I especially like the saddle bags, which stow away when not needed, but provide lots of extra room when you do need it.

Fits Everything I Need!, April 26, 2012
By Mike Joe

I bought this bag for bike so I could get my school work to and from campus. The side pouches that fold down are great and hold my large bulky laptop. I also carry my charger, mouse, iPad, notebooks, change of shirt and bike lock. Everything fits and there is still room just in case I need to bring anything else to school. The quality of the bag seems to be pretty good and the zippers are good. Overall great bag!

Performs As advertised!, April 23, 2012
By K. Gray (Northern Chicago Suburbs)

First, the MTX rack + bag combo
The MTX Trunk bag + MTX rack are an awesome combination! I had a more economical rack that could not withstand the 10.5 mile commute. In my quest to find a more stable rack/bag system, I stumbled across the Topeak MTX rack/bag system and was very impressed with some of the reviews. I was skeptical that the bag would remain stable on the rack while riding on slightly bumpy terrain, but it performed very well. The connection to the rack is solid; I picked the bag up while attached to the rack and it lifted the entire back end of the bike! With this system, I am no longer required to use a bungee cord to tie my contents down to the rack. The nice feature about the bag is that it slides easily on and off the rack; I usually keep the bag on my desk while at work.
Now about the actual bag itself...
The quality of the bag is excellent. A Velcro top handle and allows you to carry the bag horizontally and there is also a bottom handle that allows you to carry the bag vertically. The provided strap allows you to carry the bag around on your shoulder. The rigid side panels are very sturdy and provide extra storage even if you don't use the panniers. The cargo net on top is a great place for keys; pens, etc. One of the main features that I like about the bag is how it opens up from the top immediately exposing all the contents in the main compartment. This makes for quick and easy access. The only downside to the bag is the size of the main compartment is smaller than it actually looks. With the molded panels, it looks as though the main compartment is as wide as the entire width of the bag, but that is not the case. My small notebook, kindle and lunch bag have to be slightly tilted in order to completely fit inside. The main compartment does however provide a decent amount of depth, so all of those items fit and there is still plenty room for more stuff. The side panniers are Awesome! I can't believe how much stuff can fit into them. My 13" laptop + charger fits easily in one of the panniers (you may want to add some extra padding as one of the reviewers suggested though; very little protection as the material is thin).
Overall the bag by itself is a good buy; but the MTX bag + MTX rack are an excellent buy!
