4.0 out of 5 stars.  Kickstands Return!, November 6, 2008
By fanatix
Before I bought my expensive road bike, I had a my hybrid bike and put a kickstand on this bike. Face it, kickstands are PRACTICAL. There are too many places where you get off the bike, but there is nowhere to stand the bike, except on the ground.

I bought a road bike a few months back, and alas, no kickstand. I had difficulty standing it against things, and people kept telling me that I shouldn't lay it on the ground. Enter the flashstand! Now, when I go for a ride, I bring it, and when I need to get off my bike voila - instant kickstand!

The flashstand is lightweight and compact. It folds up into about a 6 inch strip, so you can just put in your bento bag or pocket.

When I went to my local bike store, one of the employees saw me using it, and he ran up to me, asked to borrow it, and showed it to his manager (they don't sell the flashstand at this store).

I do not know of any other contraption that would allow me to have a kickstand on my carbon frame bike, so I'm pleased with the flashstand.

True, what they say - it's not compatible with all bikes. I have a Madone 5.1 WSD and it works fine with this. According to the manufacturer, it is compatible with "Shimano® Dura Ace, Ultegra or 105 non-drive side crank arm with a dimension of 35mm x 80mm to securely hold a 700c road bike".

Somone also mentioned stability as an issue. It is not as stable as a good kickstand, but it's workable. When using it, there is better stability if you turn the front wheel in the opposite direction of the side the flashstand is located.

All in all.....for me, it's a must have, and I give it a 4 of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works fine for what it is made for.., May 8, 2011
By Bill
I just bought a new road bike and it was not made to have a kick stand mounted to the frame (I have yet to understand why this is, but hey...), so I bought this flashstand slim. Used it many times this weekend on a small bike tour, and I have to say it works beautifully. I had no problems with it, and the bike was very sturdy when in use. I have a larger frame bike, so I had to use the adjustment screw located on the bottom of the flashstand to fit my bike frame. I read the reviews here before I bought this, and I haven't figured out why everyone did not rate this a 5 star? This is just as stable as a real kickstand, so if you are in my position, and have a road bike that you cannot mount (or just do not want to mount) a real kickstand to, this comes highly recommend from me. If you do not like the "Flashstand" idea, the only other thing I found that might work (if you have a heavy load on your bike) is google "click stand", and see what you think?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bob W. Orlando. Fla., December 31, 2010
By Robert Weidler
This thing is great!!!!!!!!!! I have a a Kestrel Talon road bike with shimano 105 components and this thing fits like a glove. It has a plastic liner so it dosen't scratch your cranks. It also has an adjustment so you can get the right amount of lean so it dosen't fall over. It has strong legs and folds up and fits in my seat pack very well and is very light weight . I will never have another bike without this kickstand. All of the guys I ride with got one as well as the guys at my local bike shop as soon as they saw mine. Great product get one you will love it!!!!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice product, doesn't fit all pedal arms., June 12, 2009
By CRCHAIR (Shelton, CT)
I was excited when I got this item as I thought it would be the perfect solution to adding a stand to my Dahon Matrix folding bike. It is sleek and seems well made. Unfortunately, it does not fit over the end of the pedal arm on my bike. Make sure before buying it that the pedal arm on your bike is not too wide.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  works well, May 24, 2009
By biker
I've used this very compact and light stand for over a year now on my road bike. I mostly use it when I park the bike in the garage. It works great for that purpose, keeping the bike upright and not leaning. It is not as stable as a regular mounted kickstand but it is stable enough. I've found that I need to turn the front wheel so that it rests pointed away from the stand for optimum stability. This stand is light enough and can easily be carried along for rides where the only other options for parking a bike are leaning it or laying down. I recommend this stand.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Disappointing quality and stability, December 6, 2008
By CraftyInstigator
I ordered this product as a substitute for a kickstand for my Specialized Sirrus. In theory this was a good idea. The problem with the FlashStand is that it lacks the ability to be adjusted for bike height and pedal length. The result a constant fear that the bike will fall over even on a flat surface. I would not trust it in the slightest of wind gusts, and you can forget slopes. After about two months of use, the plastic foot came off the stand and had to be glued back into place.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Cool looking device which I never use., November 10, 2009
By Timothy Germann (South Orange, NJ)
PROS: Nice looking metal stand with fairly solid construction. Nice fit and finish. Designed for bikes that don't have a kickstand.

CONS: It's kind of like a solution in need of a problem- There are very few situations where one can use this thing conveniently. It's too big and heavy to take with you riding (might as well just get a kick stand.) And even at home, it's is much easier to just lean the bike against something rather than futzin' around try to get the bike balanced just right with this thing so it won't fall over. (Which brings me to my biggest issue.) Only works well with certain bike geometries. The cranks on my Specialized Tricross were just barely long enough to use. It always was on the verge of falling over and would do just that if you even brushed against the bike. There might be a certain bike with long cranks or a low Bottom bracket that would work just fine, but I recommend trying it out first at a bike shop instead of buying online.

VERDICT: Neat idea & cool-looking, but too inconvenient to use all the time and may not work at all with your bike geometry

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not perfect but serves it's purpose, August 3, 2008
By Joe A. (SOUTHERN, CA United States)
A stand that will help you not to have to lay your expensive road bike on the ground. Considering size and ease of use, it is a worthwhile purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Road Bike Stand for SRAM Rival, March 22, 2011
By Cycle Newbie (Florida)
I'm pretty sure the description states that this is a Road Bike Stand. So I have no sympathy for someone rating this a one star who purchased this for a MTN bike. That being said, I like this stand. The only purpose for this review is that I have a Cannondale Synapse Carbon 4 (SRAM) Rival and it fits nicely.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  OK for a short-term stand, November 2, 2010
By Timothy J. Patton (CLAYTON, OH, US)
This is pretty handy but it doesn't take much wind to make the bike fall over. I only use this when I know I don't need to have the bike stand up for very long.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  A little disappointed but my fault, September 30, 2008
By David Fiorino
OK in all fairness it is a pretty nice stand. The fault is I didn't research the product to find out it works on only a very limited number of road bike shafts. This is not a universal stand for any bike. I didn't see it on the description page on Amazon though it probably was there It was on the Topeak site. It was my fault but I still only give it three stars because they should have made it adjustable to fit multiple bikes.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Tim, September 15, 2008
By Tri Biker
Clever design, but weight should be heavier to better stablilize the bike. If you bump the bike it will fall over, thus it is a bit too wobbly for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  STAND OR DROP YOUR BIKE DEVICE?, September 10, 2008
By N. MONTIJO (BOSTON, MA)
PLAIN AND SIMPLE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS STAND? IT'S NOT MEANT FOR MOUNTAIN BIKES THATS FOR SURE. I EVEN TRIED IT ON AN OLDER MOUNTAIN BIKE WITH A SLIM CRANK SIMILAR TO THAT OF A ROAD BIKE AND THAT WAS TO NO AVAIL. I THOUGHT IT WAS ME. THIS ITEM IS A POOR DESIGN. GOOD IDEA, BAD EXECUTION. I LOVE TOPEAK ITEMS, BUT THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD ON THIS ONE.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great substitute for a normal kickstand, September 3, 2011

Great little extra to have on a road bike with no kickstand because let's face it we all want to stop and take a break sometime. Plus it fits great in my little to peak repair bag!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Handy, Though A Little Unstable, November 29, 2011
By Puck (Arlington, TX)
I found this stand to be VERY handy for my road bike. I ride a heavy duty Dutch bike with a double sided kick stand for trips to the grocery and such, but occasionally I need to take a longer ride to a store and this is VERY handy to have so that I don't have to constantly try and prop it up while packing my baskets full of stuff. It isn't the most sturdy stand in the world, but it serves its purpose well and I haven't found anything better out there than this! Definitely worth it if you're sick of trying to balance your road bike against a telephone pole!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really Handy!, May 13, 2012
By Tony 305
Most road bikes are just leaned against a wall and now with this I never need to lean my bike against anything. Everybody asks where I got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect Fit, May 1, 2012
By Entry Level
As many other people stated i became frustrated with spending (what i consider) a lot of money on a road bike and then having to hope it didn't fall over while being leaned against something. the ounces a kick stand would add to the bike meant nothing to me as i'm not entering and marathons. I am an entry level rider, but still spent way more on a bike then i ever thought i would and i couldn't stand the thought of it falling over and getting messed up. While looking for a kickstand to hopefully fit my road bike i stumbled across the Topeak FlashStand. I read a lot of the reviews and decided to wing it and see if it fit and what it was all about.

Can i just say LOVE IT. No its not as sturdy as a true kickstand but it serves the purpose well. Even with a real kickstand, if you got a good gust of wind the bike would fall over. I find it to be sturdy enough for my needs which is 95% of the time holding it up in my house. When i'm with the bike outside i'm typically riding it, not resting it, so it suits me fine.

I think its a great alternative, compact enough to put in your pocket. Remember to turn the front wheel in the opposite direction for more stability. It fit perfectly on my Cannondale Synapse 6. One happy customer!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works on SRAM, April 5, 2012
By The Squirrel (OH, USA)
I use the stand to keep my bicycle indoors. This fits and works on a SRAM Force road crank. The crank arms are carbon fiber. However, the flash stand distributes the weight of the bike mostly onto the pedal bolt alleviating any concern. The inside is lined with a plastic or rubber to avoid any unnecessary scratching or marring of surfaces.

The stand is surprisingly stable and construction is pretty solid. The folded stand looks like an oversized and folded butterfly knife. It's a bit on the large end to fit into a saddlebag, though.
