About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great blinky, night AND day!, May 20, 2008
By Carbon Fibre
I bought this light after seeing it on another bike during the middle of the day... the blinding flasher was visible even in bright sunlight! And at night, it's killer good. Now that I've got it on my bike I run it night and day. It's good on batteries, and even if it wasn't , who cares? For the cost of a couple of triple A batteries this light does a great job of increasing my visibility and keeping me safe.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Super Bright Light - Bad Mounting System, January 25, 2010
By An Average Guy
I've had the same commuting setup since '03 and it was time for a light update. The various Internet forums said this is the favored light right now, so I bit.

The good:
This light is awesomely bright compared to my old Cateye blinky from '03! Plus it only takes 2 AAA batteries so no more trying to figure out what to do with that odd battery.

The bad:
The mount is horrible. I have racks/panniers and use an under-seat bag when just around town for the usual essentials (spare tube etc).

My old blinky just has a threaded hole to screw it to the rack. 30 sec and you're done. This unit has a click quick release, so it needs to be taken off the bike every time you stop or it will walk away.

To add insult to injury, the stock light doesn't even come with a mount suitable for a rack. That's a $5 extra option. Between my rack and my saddle bag, there is no suitable place to mount the light with the hardware provided.

This is bad design for an easy problem and the reason for my 3 stars. Planet Bike, please drill a hole in the unit for those of us that just want to mount the darn thing and not have some quick release system.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  not a "white" light flasher, February 23, 2008
By A casual stroll through the lu.. (Prague)
I got the Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash - (Clear / Black) thinking that it was a "white" light flasher so I could put it on the side or front of my bike. Turns out it's just a different New color scheme for the Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Tail Light Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Tail Light. It has a red flash pattern, in Flashing red and steady red modes. Runs on 2 AAA batteries (included). Pretty good light.

Use in conjunction with Blackburn Mars 3.0 Flasher Rear Bicycle Light and you should be set. Use a High Visibility ANSI Class 2 Safety Vest to be seen in the dark as well. GLoWEAR Class 2 Economy Vest, Lime, L/XL #21025 / 8210HL.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just the Best, June 11, 2009
By Trent Austin
I'm a year-round, all-weather, night-and-day bike commuter. I don't need the lightest, newest, top-grade drivetrain components or a custom titanium frame, and I'm not about to pay for them. But good lights are one thing I do need, and I don't mind paying top dollar for the added safety. (I have a top-of-the-line Dinotte combo for my bar/helmet lights.)

Happily, though, I don't seem to need to shell out big money for a tail light. I've tried various models, but this little guy is just the best. I could pay a LOT more and get the ridiculously bright Dinotte tail light, but why? This little Planet Bike is already insanely visible, and dirt cheap.

I've had mine (the Stealth) out in all weather, all year, and the thing just. never. fails. I see others have reported switch problems, but none here. Besides, they're so cheap, just buy 2; toss one in your blowout bag and you've got a backup tail light every bit as good as your main, that clips instantly onto the same mounting hardware. Buy the non-Stealth model for your backup. It's even cheaper.

A couple of other nice features:

1. It seems to be extremely easy on batteries. After several months, I finally changed mine out just because I thought surely they must be getting low.

2. The Stealth model really is virtually invisible when it's not blinkifying. Mine's mounted on one of my seat stays, and if you're not looking for it, you just don't see it.

In short, I love this thing. It's one of those extremely rare consumer products that does exactly what it should do, does it extremely well, and costs what it ought to: it's the Craftsman wrench of bicycle lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  To be seen..., August 17, 2008

Planet Bike 3034-1 Blinky Superflash .5 Watt LED with 2 Red LED Tail Lights (Black/Clear Case)
Great tail light for your bike for a good price... Look up some videos at YouTube if you don't believe how great it is. I recommment it to everyone who rides a bike. Sometimes I clip it to my backpack to make sure cars see me in the evening/night when walking at places without pavement.
To make sure... this is a red LED light, not a white one, it just has clear case. I also bought the one in red case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KBEH1W) and it works and looks the same (except the different color of the case). One is for my bro...
I'm very satisfied... 5 stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice light. Missing design feature., October 30, 2008
By simul iustus et peccator (Dallas, Texas USA)
This is a great light in almost all ways. Super-bright main LED, attention grabbing alternating secondary LEDs.

But its mounting system sux. The Bike Industry seems to have abandoned the old universal style of mounting bracket (I see this on other lights, and racks, too), and seem to be designing lights to be mounted to either the seat post or the chainstay... neither of which work if you have a seat bag and racks with panniers.

What would have been 5-stars for a nifty little light gets only 3.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Beautiful light - horrible mounting system, November 9, 2008
By Bruce K. (Palo Alto, CA, United States)

The light is bright like everyone is saying.

My problem is one day I looked down and it was gone - jumped the mount.
I was riding over a lot of rocks and I guess it popped out. That had me
really steamed. I also had a air pump that shook apart too.

All the mounting systems are very similar, but I cannot afford
to spend whatever it is for a light, nice as it is and have to take
it off all the time or buy a new one when it falls off.

Someone should come up with a flexible mounting standard,
all of the ones I have seen are terrible.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bright, attention grabbing, works!, November 15, 2008
By Robert M
The light itself is great! Approximately 2x1x1", sturdy, relatively water resistant, and doesn't seem to be prone to damage. The 'button' is well designed covered by the plastic case (press lightly on the case, which will then press the hidden button). As for the light, works very well, grabs attention during day and night! Focused to point in a straight cone, but has light to the sides and top/bottom (spill light on side only visible at night; spill in day is hard to notice). Blink pattern is 'blink blink blink BLINK BLINK' (very fast blinks, three times from the 2 small LED's and then twice from the larger LED). Also has steady ON mode.

The mounting mechanism is quite good. Though it's not sleek on the bike, it works well. There is a larger binder (designed for the seat post) and a smaller one (for seatstay). It connects well, light does not slip out when going over bumps or rocky paths.

At between fifteen and twenty, you can't go wrong with this blinky light. But if you want to try something else, go for the Cateye TL LD1100.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best blinky out there, July 27, 2008
By A. Wilson
This light is the brightest rear flasher I've ever seen. I even use it during the day - it's that bright. You can't beat the price and the new color scheme (clear/black) make it more inconspicuous when it's off. It's the best deal for the money, for sure.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Not waterproof -- Not recommended if it rains where you live, May 26, 2010
By dripton (Ashburn, VA)
I own several Superflashes. They're light, they're cheap, they're bright, and they have good battery life. The blinking mode is very visible but also very obnoxious to following bikes, but you can set them to solid on mode for group rides. And they're easy to mount to the seatstays, which is a convenient location on bikes that have a bag blocking the bottom of the seat and lack a rack or fender.

So why one star? Because they're not waterproof. In heavy rain, a Superflash will go out without warning, which can get you hit from behind and killed.

On a recent 400 km brevet, one rider had 2 Superflashes, which were both intermittently failing as water got in, then coming back on as the water drained out, then failing again. Luckily he had a third taillight that was more waterproof.

If you live where it rains at all and insist on using a Superflash, you should also use another taillight of a different type. But honestly I recommend not using these and using something else.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  need a better button, November 28, 2009
By X (Boston)
It was a good and bright light, but the on and off button is junk. The product really doesn't have a true on/off button. You just have to guess exactly where to push. After about six weeks the on/off button area seem not to response to the pressure of my finger. I had to push harder and harder to turn the product on/off. Now, I keep the light positioned "on" and just take the battery out to turn it off, which is a pain since you need a tool or a coin to open the compartment.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Little Light!, October 6, 2009
By Geobikee (Central California)
I bought two Planet Bike Superflashes for a recent bicycle tour of Coastal Oregon and Northern California. My intent was to mount them to the flat light bracket on my Tubus rear rack, but there were no provision on the Superflashes for mounting to a flat surface... What to do? After trying several options I cut an old inner tube to the length of the mounting plate, split that section of inner tube, and then slipped it over the mounting plate. This worked something like an elastic waste band and the two Superflashes clipped easily and securely to the rubber-covered light mount. I checked the configuration a couple of times during the tour and it held up well; no adjustments required. The superflashes worked superbly during the tour. We cycled during conditions that ranged from rainy, to foggy, to low light (under canopies of Redwoods), to sunny and the superflashes were always on while we were on the bikes, which was seven-to-eight hours per day for two weeks. The lights always worked reliably and the batteries lasted for the entire two-week tour. I can't say enough good things about these lights and how they enhance rider safety. Having two of them mounted to my rack was an added plus. They absolutely generate a second look from motorists. So in sum you have a nice, reliable product at a good price. What's not to like?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Sleek, bright rear flasher, June 24, 2008
By VRP
This is a bright, red rear flasher with a unique flash pattern that catches attention when it is switched on. It has flash mode, constant on, and off. The mount is sturdy but it did loosen up the first time since I was too careful about overtightening and scratching the frame. I used some black electrical tape on the frame and remounted, and now it's working great.

Also, I like the "stealth" look it has when it's off...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  They can't miss seeing me, March 4, 2009
By Katy (Sacramento, CA United States)
I have almost complete faith that, if I am seen by someone coming up behind me in a car, they will make at least a minimal effort to avoid hitting me. The trick then, is to make sure they see me.

The flash this light puts out is hard to miss. Unlike the blinky which just blinks a red light, this little light strobes a very bright white light and then blinks. It is very attention getting. It can readily be seen even in daylight. I recommend this for anyone who finds themselves riding at night, dusk, dawn or in cloudy weather.

It won't save you from drunks or psychopaths though, so keep an eye out for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  FOR DAYTIME USE !! STAY ALIVE! USE THIS TAIL LIGHT!, December 26, 2008
By Jackrbike (Clifton Park, NY)
June 23, 2011 Edit--this Superflash has been superceded by the vastly better and brighter one watt models: Superflash Turbo, Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 (current favorite) and Blackburn Mars 4.0 models. The Serfas has been discontinued.

Original review applies: Almost our entire cycling group (varies from 8-15/ride) uses either this Planet Bike Superflash taillight or the now discontinued Serfas TL1000 taillight on DAYTIME rides, because either one effectively calls attention to our presence from 1/3 to 1/2 mile away, EVEN IN SUNLIGHT. Daytime use started with one person in early summer. Within a few weeks everyone realized the value of these lights in enhancing safety during our one to three hour daylight rides and got one or the other.

Any blinky light works reasonably well in the dark (except in brightly lit urban environs.) What's needed is something that calls attention to us during the daytime.

Only these do the job well; the others are barely noticeable. Both come with seatpost and with seat stay mounts. Neither is made for non-cylindrical attachment points, such as the aero seatposts and stays on triathlon specific bikes. However, copper pipe insulation foam around non cylindrical seat stays makes it possible to mount the Superflash on such bikes. Get one for your bike; your survival chances will improve -- if you use it!

These remarks also apply to the Superflash Stealth model, which has a clear lens even though the lights are red.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  VERY BRIGHT LIGHT, November 9, 2008
By Javi (San Diego, CA)
EXTREMELY BRIGHT LIGHT. Viewable distance is excellent. But the best part is the flashing scheme. It does not flash like any ordinary flasher. It has 2 smaller LEDs that flash together and there is big strobe LED that flashes out of sync from the other 2 LEDs. This light pattern catches the attention of drivers much better than a regular flashing LED.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  My no frills review: this is the best bike tail light you can buy., October 29, 2008
By S Michaelis (Austin, TX USA)
I am a bike commuter. The Planet Bike Superflash is simply the very best bicycle blinky tail light you can purchase. Amazingly, it also is dirt cheap. Look no further. Buy several and give them to your friends. I have both clear and red ones, and they both perform the exact same. The battery lasts forever, and the lights themselves are indestructible.

The only thing better than one of these Superflash tail lights is TWO Superflash tail lights.

I have one on my helmet and one on my rear rack. I have had cars stop me in the pre-dawn morning to tell me that they could see me two miles away. They had no idea what the bright red light was, but they saw me. Seriously, WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR A NON-BICYCLIST IN A CAR TO STOP AND COMPLIMENT YOU ON YOUR AMAZING BLINKY LIGHT?

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Be Seen & Be Safe!, October 3, 2008
By D. Lester (E Wenatchee, WA USA)
If you are looking for an inexpensive, long-lasting, very bright, eye-catching rear flasher, then it is hard to go wrong with this one. It is easy on batteries, easy to mount, and easy to remove. There were some other reviews I read before purchasing this that claimed the mount was inadequate and easy to break. I don't see how that is true. Mine is mounted to the seat post, solid, and I ride like a maniac over railroad crossings and other road imperfections. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the switch is a little awkward (it is a pressure switch instead of an actual button) and the batteries are a little awkward to replace (you need a coin or screwdriver to pop it open). Overall, really insignificant details when you consider the price and how much more safe you will be while using this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  SuperSuperFlash, May 30, 2008
By Dr. Gonzo (Chicago, IL)
Got this tail light today, it was defected. 1 of the two weaker LEDs was not working, not a big deal. Let Niagara Cycle know and they got back to me right away told me they are going to send a new one, with paid shipping to ship the old one back. Which is really cool, not having me send the old one back first and waiting all that time.
But even with that one LED out the light is still super bright! It hurts to look at. Makes me feel safe knowing that I blind the cars in back of me, but at least they know I'm there and not to get to close.
The flash pattern is very unique and visible between all the lights you would see on a street in the city. It's almost like a little cop light on your bike. All and all this is a great light and is a must for night time riding. If you're like me and have a solid black bike, you need all the lights you can get!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  I bought one...I wish I had bought three...Excellent rear helmet light, March 20, 2010
By K. Kelly (San Francisco)
I was looking for a small, bright rear light for my Bell Volt Bike Helmet and I took a chance that the Blinky Superflash would somehow fit in one of the back crannies of that rather alien-looking helmet.

The Blinky Superflash did fit on the back of my helmet, albeit sideways and attached with a couple cable ties...And it is SUPER effective being up that high.

My only regret is not buying two more to attach to either side of my bike's rear cargo rack. Two Blinky Superflash units on either side of the rear rack plus one on the back of one's helmet...That's a configuration of safe bike lane riding at night.

One star off for Planet Bike not offering an optional universal ball joint clamp/plate mount so the Blinky Superflash can be clipped to/removed from a seat post. Shame on you for dropping the ball on that! :P

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Light, Bracket Could Be Better, July 31, 2009
By Kumo (Seattle, WA USA)
I really like this light. When comparison shopping at my local bike store it definitely seemed to be the brightest. My only disappointment has been that I've had to replace it two times. It seems that the pot hole ridden streets of Seattle manage to make the light snap off from time to time. That said, I do like the light otherwise I would've switched to another one by now.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best tail light under $50, February 8, 2009
By R. Ellington (Texas)
The Planet Bike Superflash is by far the best bicycle tail light on the market that sells for less than $50. Better yet, they can be found on sale for less than $20.

I commute by bike daily. After getting my Superflash, I was stopped at an intersection and a woman who passes me in her car every day rolled down her window to tell me that the thought my new tail light was great. It really got her attention better than my old light.

The Superflash can be run in blinking or steady mode. There is quite a debate over which mode works best regarding visibility by motorists. They are cheap enough to buy two of them and run one steady and one flashing to cover both opinions.

It has a clip and comes with two different sized mounts for mounting to your seatpost or seat stays for a variety of mounting options.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike Flashers for Walkers, January 12, 2009
By Bruce Schreiner (Lancaster, PA)
I bought this flashing light to use for walking on the road for exercise in a rural area. It is always a stretch to use something for other than its intended purchase. As a test I sent my Amish friend Jakie in his buggie in the opposite direction and believe you me he could see me from plenty far way. You don't want to accidently get run over by a horse and buggy during your exercise walks. The flashing pattern catches the eye (different from anything else on the road), the LEDs are bright, you can easily clip it to even heavy clothing with the standard clip, and the batteries last a long time. I feel much safer walking with this product and part of the money goes to advancing the use of bicycles as transportation so both sides win! Buy it if you are thinking about it, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Light, bright and well-designed for mountains or roads, October 11, 2008
By indy (SF, CA USA)
I'm impressed with this light. I do a lot of downhill mtn-bike riding and wanted a light that was bright, as well as durable enough to stay on the bike in the rough stuff. This light is small, super bright and has a pretty solid mount. There are two standard LED's with one super bright one. I actually have the one that has white LED covers (not red), but the LED's are red (not white). It has several mounting options and the mounting clip is... well simple, but also just well-designed. There are only 2 modes (flashing or steady) which is enough and makes turning the light on and off simple. The light is also easy to turn on and off and I can do it while I'm riding.
I'm not one to carry a pack while I do a daily ride, and I don't like stuffing hard objects in my pocket for risk of crashing. The trails are a few miles from my house, so I often return at dusk or in the dark. This light lets me do it without the hassle, weight or need to constantly remove and re-attach the light. I just leave it on. However, if you lock your bike, the mounting bracket has a clip, so you can remvoe the light in a snap.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Unbelievably Bright, And Surprisingly Small, October 9, 2008
By Tobias Falzone (Los Angeles, CA)
If your goal is maximum visibility at night, then this is the rear bike light for you. As soon as I started using this light, cars began giving me extremely wide berths when passing me. One was using the other lane entirely. The main LED is quite honestly PAINFULLY BRIGHT to look directly into, and blinks fast enough to give someone an epileptic seizure. Plainly said, it is simply impossible to notice this rear light at night. I highly reccomend it. It is surprisingly small though, only a little larger than the size of your thumb, but that is to the better because it will fit anywhere on your bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Blinky is the best, August 4, 2008
By BikeTom (Washington DC)
I've tried several tail lights for my commuting these last three years. This is by far the best. It's super bright and has the craziest blinking pattern out there - the two most valuable trails for any light that might save you from getting hit from behind. It's very light and at less than $20 is a bargain. If you're looking for a tail light, this is the one to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple and it works, August 14, 2011
By A Brit. Abroad (Modesto, CA USA)
Replacing an old Niterider system that was wired to a bottle battery. The whole system cost $400+ about 10 years ago and had had problems from the beginning. This light is awesomne and the batteries were installed and ready to go. I must agree with a previous reviewer about the mount. I bought the rack mount but I can see how if you left the bike unattended, someone could just lift the light off if they knew what they were doing and / or on a mission to get a free tail light!.No biggie for me as I am rarely out of eyesight of the bike. Works great though.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best bike tail light....ever.., July 28, 2011
By The Dougster! (Lost Angeles)
This is the first rear light for a bike I have ever been completely satisfied with. Not only is the primary LED very bright, the flash pattern, which is the same used for aircraft strobe lights is very effective in drawing attention.

As for durable, I had the light connected to the back of my tool bag, which has a little strap for that purpose. The strap proved too flexible, and at a bit over 20 mph the light popped off the bag when I hit a pot hole. The light came apart from the force of the landing, and I expected it would be ruined. I collected the two parts of the light and the two batteries, one badly dented, snapped it all back together and it worked perfectly! That was three months ago, and it still functions great, no visible damage and still running on those same batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best LED Tail Light, March 15, 2011
By J. Pope (Philadelphia, PA USA)
I've had this tail light for 2 years now and I love it. It is the brightest tail light I've seen and people have commented multiple times on how bright and visible it is. Easy to install and the mounting system makes it easy to take your light with you when you lock up your bike.

My only critique is that the button to turn the light on and switch between modes doesn't have much tactile feedback. So if you're trying to reach behind your seat while riding to turn it on, it's difficult to know if you've done so. Not really a problem, just a thought.

I wouldn't suggest any other light and this item is a must if you ride at night.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  One of the best for your money, January 26, 2011
By Spanky McSpanksalot (Canada)
There are plenty of video's on youtube, so I'll just add my .02 cents. This is easily one of the best blinkies for the money that you can get.

The alernating flash pattern is eye catching and the more powerfull top led really throws light.

My other light is a Dinotte tail light. Although the Dinotte out shines the Superflash, it doesn't hold the value of the Superflash.

I believe that the Superflash is very effective, and again one of the best values out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I LOVE my Planet Bike Blinky Superflash Tail Light!, August 27, 2010
By Jeff Ehlers
I LOVE my Planet Bike Blinky Superflash Tail Light! It is INCREDIBLY bright (blinding if you look right at it from close up) and thus I feel a lot safer riding before it gets fully light in the morning and/or as it starts to get dark at the end of the day. This is my 3rd purchase of these lights (and this time around I bought TWO of them just in case)-- nothing wrong with the lights, they last FOREVER-- I just broke one in a crash earlier this year and then had another one pop off the back of my bike when I hit a bump at 40+ mph on a descent and hadn't made sure that the light was fully secure before heading home that day. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Superb! Bright red light for night time use, June 11, 2010
By Video Game Fanatic (Sanford, FL)
I stumbled upon this light after researching a lot of other lights for my bike. I read nothing but great reviews for it. I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and all I can say is WOW! I love this light and it is exceptionally bright at night. It was easy to install onto my bike and is easy to remove if I need to. I would highly recommend Planet Bike lights to anyone that wants to be seen at night and feel safer!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yes, it really is that bright, June 9, 2010
By E. Cimino (Hagerstown, MD USA)
Just as bright as everyone says. Even the solid-on setting is pretty bright. I would prefer the blinking pattern to go a little faster, but when the big LED goes off, people know it.

It's a very nice looking product. Clips on and off very easily and is quite small, so it will fit easily into any pocket. No problems yet with the unit falling off, nor with the case coming apart unexpectedly, as mentioned in other reviews. Seems to have a very solid "tight" case.

The only downside I could possibly note, is that the vertical orientation could make the fit difficult if you mount it on a suspension seat post and keep the stock reflector mounted there too. It worked for me, but if yours is adjusted in a low position, you might need to mount either the light or the old reflector in a new spot.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good value for the price. Not the brightest... Dinotte is., March 11, 2010
By G. Powell (Seattle, WA USA)
I have bought three of these, one for my bike as a backup and one each for my kids bikes. I'm a regular all weather commuter and my prime tail lights are Dinotte 400R. I have this one incase I forget to charge my other system as a backup system can be life it self. The kids only ride a little after dark and never in the rain/sleet/slush. As a single unit it's not bad, but cars have to be right up on you in city lights at night to see it. On a dark road it does stand out. The Dinotte is 400 lumins and looks like an aid vehicle when it's going full on. But the cost for all those lumins is 8x this one. As a regular commuter that's worth it. But whether that one light would outshine 8 of these, well yes it would and I don't have that many places to mount 8 lights! But if you only ride in the dark some, and wear a reflective vest like Surveyor Safety Vest w/ Zipper Front, Ultra-CoolTM Mesh - Class 3 - High Visibility - Medium - Lime - ML Kishigo you'll be fine... maybe. At least until you can save enough dough to get some real wattage.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Crazy bright!, July 16, 2009
By chuanha1
This light is great. I have a headlight with 9 white LEDs, but the single 1/2 watt LED in this light is still much brighter. The strobe pattern flashes like the strobes on emergency vehicles and is attention grabbing even in daylight. The clip on the back of the light can clip onto your pants or onto one of two included mounting brackets, one for your seat post and one for the frame next to your rear wheel. Two different size shims are included for the mounting brackets. All in all, a great package.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent!, July 9, 2009
By Chris Beard (Las Vegas, NV)
This light is what I was looking for and at the right price. The clamp they give you for the seat post is too small but in my case it still fit. The clamp is flexible and I had to use a little pressure to secure it with the screw. So far it hasn't broken.

The light is very bright and has a flash or strobe mode and a solid mode in red led light. If you buy this light and spend 10 minutes looking for the switch to turn it on... it's located on the bottom and you just give it a light push for each mode, lol!

This gets 4 stars because of the clasp.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The best rear blinky I've seen., April 25, 2009
By Mark J. Anspacher (Upstate NY, USA)
Yup - I own a coupleathreefour of these two...

Pros: Extremely bright; steady or flashing; unique strobe-style flashing pattern; very adaptable locking/quick release/removable mounting system; inexpensive safety

Cons: I can't get my Congressman to buy 'em for me on someone else's dime (I guess you have to already be rich to get a government handout)...

The Bottom Line: This is a VERY nice, lightweight safety light that can be used pretty much anywhere - and can also be removed quickly and stowed in a pocket or bag in case you need to park your bike in the general population (hey, let's face it - scumbags will steal pretty much ANYTHING if given the opportunity!).

I am truly amazed by those who claim they have 'lost' one of these lights that has vibrated loose from the latching mount while riding. The Planet Bike mounting system is the most secure and versatile small bicycle light mounting system I have ever seen. You can mount one of their lights ANYWHERE that a safety light is needed! You can purchase an accessory mounting bracket from the Planet Bike site, epoxy it to the back of your head and mount a flashing light there that is visible for nearly a mile - and your head will fall off your shoulders before the light 'vibrates' loose from its bracket (assuming the light is correctly latched into place)!

At the risk of repeating myself, if you have one of these lights mounted to your bike, pack, helmet, child, shopping cart, etc. and someone says they didn't see it, they are either lying or blind.

This is a cool looking light that works great for keeping you seen. I have the "Stealth" which works just as good as the red one. It it slim and would look great on your seat post, but with the mounts you get, and the superflash mount you can find on here, you can really mount it anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  the best bike tail light I've found, buy one and be seen!, December 29, 2008
By S. Phillips (la, ca)
This thing is incredibly bright, uses standard batteries, is a nice small size, and is easy to remove. I love the fact that it's not red until lit which looks better on my classic beach cruiser. It is also available with a red lens if you prefer that look. It is blazingly bright for a small light that operates on standard batteries. The only possible down side is because it can be easily removed, it can also easily be stolen. Just something to be aware of if you leave your bike locked in urban areas.

A Great Light, buy one and be seen!

I bought 2 of these lights for my wife and I due to high ratings in bike forums. This is a nice bright LED light. The bright flash is directional, meaning you have to be fairly close to in line with the tail light. Though the whole case lights up as well. I really like the clear lens and the black case matches our bike frames. I highly recommend this blinky light for bike commuters. Love it!

There really is not a better product in this price range. If you ride on the street with cars, you will be noticed which is after all the intention. I have this product on my Trek road and mountain bikes and cars really do move out of your way.

The Planet Bike 1/2 watt and 1 watt light for the front of your bike also works equally well for a reasonable cost.

This light from Planet Bike is one of the greatest bicycle products on the market today. Ask anyone who uses them, they are super bright, durable, and good on batteries. The battery size is also a commonly used AAA, not a watch battery or odd size.

Should you have any problems, I've heard customer service at Planet Bike is excellent. I would give this item an A+

5.0 out of 5 stars.  You want to be noticed? This is it!, November 12, 2008
By A. Kim
Other reviewers have raved about this tail light and I have to agree. It is very bright and easily seen by cars approaching you from behind. Where it shine best (no pun intended) is during the dawn or dusk hours. I find riding bicycle during that time the scariest because you think you can be seen but honestly there has been times where I have been scared out of my wits because cars didn't see you even though there was still some sun light left. Having this very bright blinking tail light will definitely get driver's attention and minimize chance of getting into accident.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It's definitely brighter than a blink, October 19, 2008
By Thadeus
The new Superflash is equally as bright as the original Blinky. The clear case blends better with a bike. That's the only major difference I see. I have had 3 different tail lights on my recumbent but switched to the Blinky after seeing it on many club rider bikes.
The flash bulb like blink is what gets people's attention.
It's inexpensive and the battery life is great.
Buy it. Especially if you have not bought a tail light yet.

By phil bach (Seabrook, SC)
Well I bought two of these lights. I've used them several times since purchase. The reason that I bought them and the reason that I like them is that they are very visible. Great for evenings and cloudy days.

Another nice feature is it has a clip on the light which allows one to clip it on the back of the bike bag when needed. It does have tube mounts but I do not plan to use those.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  SuperFlash is RIGHT!, September 26, 2008
By J. Li (NYC)
This thing is nothing less than amazing. You WILL get noticed, especially when the sun goes down. Truckers, cars, bikers, and pedestrians will all look over to see what the heck is blinking insanely. Any brighter and it might just be a road hazard to drivers.

I've been biking for a long time now and have tried many different types of blinking taillights from various manufacturers. They were all either too cheap and brittle, or just didn't live up to their claims. Not this little thing from Planet Bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bright light, January 9, 2009
By FireLikeIYA (Gilbert, AZ)
This is a bright little light. I have not checked prices lately but this version with the black/clear lens was listed for less than the version with the red lens when I made my purchase. Not sure why this is as they both flash red and I think this one looks better.

Good:
-Bright light.
-2 modes (Flash or constant on).
-Attention getting flash pattern.
-Comes with two mounts for different size tubing with rubber shims.

Bad:
-Although it comes with two different diameter mounts there is a vast difference in diameter between the two. I was unable to get the light mounted on the tubing of a child trailer with the supplied parts. Luckily, I purchased two of these lights and was able to combine the shims to make it fit.
-Most expensive tailight I have seen.
-Mother-in-law purchased a couple of tailights from the dollar store not knowing that I had ordered these. They are nearly as bright although they only have a belt clip. For a buck it is hard to justify this one....
-Made in China.

Overall:
Happy with purchase. This item has fullfilled my tail light needs although the price is a little high.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  GREAT BUY - GET 1 OR 2, September 10, 2008
By N. MONTIJO (BOSTON, MA)
FLAT OUT - THIS IS A GREAT LIGHT TO HAVE. YOU CAN MOUNT IT ON VARIOUS PARTS OF THE BIKE WITH A LITTLE IMAGINATION AND ADDITIONAL MOUNTING BRACKET (NOT JUST THE SEAT POST). YOU CAN MOUNT IT ON THE FRAME OF CERTAIN BIKES LIKE ROAD BIKES/HYBRIDS LEAVING ROOM FOR BAGS, FENDERS, WATER BOTTLES, ETC ON THE SEAT POST. THE ONLY MINOR COMPLAINT FOR ME IS THE MOUNTING BRACKET NOT BEING QUICK RELEASE BUT I CAN LIVE WITH THAT FOR THE QUALITY OF LIGHT YOU GET PLUS THE LIGHT DOES COME OFF WITH A RELEASE SYSTEM LEAVING THE BRACKET IN PLACE.
IT IS VERY BRIGHT WITH 2 MODES - BLINKING AND ON. PEOPLE WILL SEE YOU UNLESS THEY ARE BLIND OR THEY ARE OUT TO GET YOU - LOL. IT CAME WITH BATTERIES AND I'M STILL USING THE ONES IT CAME WITH AFTER MONTHS OF USE.
THIS LIGHT COST TWICE AS MUCH IN THE BIKE SHOPS. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS ITEM 5 STARS IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE MOUNTING BRACKET. MAYBE THE NEW VERSION WILL BE QUICK RELEASE. ALL IN ALL THIS IS A VERY GOOD DEAL

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Clear case but red LEDs, November 23, 2008
By week starts Monday (Raleigh NC USA)
This sorta makes no sense. The item description clearly states the LED is red and it/they are, although states 2 and there are 3. The clear case begs to be used as a headlight but the LEDs flash red rather than white. This product could be greatly improved with white LEDs.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Flashing, weak construction, October 1, 2011
By Jose Lugo (Augusta, GA, USA)
I first bought the Blinky Superflash 2 years ago, and after a year the light fell off of the clip while I was riding on paved streets. If you are not familiar with the light, the back case is also the clip and it detaches from the main light so that you can have access to change the batteries. Well, I've never opened mine before, but somehow it got loose and detached itself and fell somewhere. Now, all I have is a clip. I bought another one right after (so about a year ago). I grabbed it off of my bike the other day and the light detached itself very easily. I put it back together and tried to see what the problem was, maybe it just got loose and I needed to securely put it back together. I did the most I could do but the light still detached quite easily with a little pull. I don't trust the light to stay in tact if I were to go over a speed bump. Other than that, the light is FANTASTIC!! I feel very safe using all of their products! I love and have had no problems with the headlight for the bike and one for my helmet, as well as the self-leveling taillight that goes on the helmet. I am a PLanet Bike fan but would love to see a more secure design in the taillight division :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A++, March 25, 2012

I liked this version better than the red lensed version. It is bright and is a definite plus for night time street riding. Hey, it's your life. Are you going to scrimp on safety for a few bucks?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and bright!, March 1, 2012

Most reviews only had bad things to say about the on/off button. Seems OK for me... Overall a solid light!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great light, with minor issues, February 23, 2012
By EXP Jawa (Rochester, NY)
I've been using one of these lights on my bike for about two years. For starters, I think that the light's function is excellent. The blink pattern is distinct and attention getting. The light has a few issues, mostly minor.

First, after a couple month of use, the lens started to pop off over bumps. I addressed this with clear tape around the edges, which has to be replaced when the batteries are changed.

Second, I'm not crazy about the clip-only mount. I understand that it's intended to make it quickly removeable, but I'd rather be able to fasten it on. I've got mine clipped to the light loop on my carrier bag, but it doesn't always stay upright or pointed directly rearward that way.

Also, more recently, I've noticed that it occasionally switches itself off. I've seen other complaints about the switch, maybe mine it becoming problematic with age.

But these gripes are mostly minor, and the function of the light outweighs the issues. I'd buy another, especially if PB comes up with alternative mount options.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great tail light, February 9, 2012
By sarahbruce
This tail light is an excellent addition to my bicycling accessories. The attachment is sturdy and the brightness is excellent. The only complaint I have is when I purchased this it was fourteen dollars direct from amazon and when I went to purchase two more, after seeing how great it was in person, the price had went to twenty five dollars. So instead of buying two more I only purchased one of the superflash turbos. The turbo is basically the same light with a different color case and twice as powerfull led. It is only five dollars more currently.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very bright, catchy blink pattern, February 7, 2012
By Jim Chou (Austin, TX USA)
I clipped this on the back of my shirt when I'm rowing at night in bow... it really helps visibility. I got this more than a year ago and it worked great. Alas, I dropped it onto a tile floor one day when changing batteries and it messed up the switch, so be careful when you're doing that. Overall, a great light, RIP.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Hard to miss it when flashing, February 3, 2012
By ReasonableDOOD
This is a compact nicely made light. It does the job of getting the attention from "passerbys" (car or other) when mounted under the seat. The clip is handy to use on one's clothing when its' not in the snap-on mounting that attaches to the bike. It came very quickly in the mail. Glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  super-bright, looks great on the bike, January 29, 2012
By Oleg
this is my third light. I used to have red super-flash for several years until I lost it on a very rough, bumpy road (broke in half). The white/clear one is more stylish, and works just as well. I now have two clear ones for my two bikes (used to swap back and forth). The amount of light superflash generates guarantees you will be seen from far away. It works great even in bright daylight. Very easy to turn on and off (I do it while riding, don't even need to stop pedaling).
Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Bright and finicky, January 23, 2012
By M. Jones (Fresno, CA United States)
This is the second of these lights I've had, through no fault of its own. As others note, what IS its fault, is that despite a supple and clever looking rubber gasket, these things leak like a sieve. I only ride in the wet rarely so this is not so bad for me, but it might be for you. The most annoying thing about these, which I have noticed in both lights, is that the switch is engineered awkwardly so that a finger, much less a finger with a glove on it, is usually too coarse a device to use the switch. I usually need a more precise tool, like a fingernail, in order to turn the thing on or off. What's more, the switch will often operate randomly, so that if I turn it off when I get home I will come out in the morning and find it... ON again. Or, worse, I may set off in the dark confident that cars can see the hella bright flashing behind me, and I'll get home to find it... OFF.

Unfortunately, despite its flaws, I have not found a better light in its class.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice, but watch for curbs, January 8, 2012
By DarkNeutron
This is a nice tail light, but I have had it come apart a few times when coming down off curbs. This could be because I had to mount it upside down with (Tail Light Rack Bracket) due to my cargo rack design. I put a piece of tape over the seem where it opens and haven't had any problems since.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Small, easy to use, works well, December 11, 2011
By Zot (Maryland, USA)
The Planet Bike Superflash Stealth is simply the same old Superflash with a black casing to blend in better with a dark-colored bike.

It's smaller than I expected (it will easily fit into your pocket), but quite powerful. Based on the many reviews I read and different videos I viewed comparing lights, I decided this was the best value for the money. You can get a stronger light, but it will be more expensive or eat the battery more quickly, and it's not really necessary--this one is quite adequate. The quick release bracket works well--it keeps the light secure while riding, but makes it easy to take off and carry with you after you lock up your bike at your destination.

The Superflash mode is good for high visibility at night if you don't have any turn signals, but I think it would make your turn signal difficult to see if you do. The regular non-flashing mode would be better for use with turn signals.

The only problem, which I had read about in other reviews, is the lack of a tangible button or switch to turn it on. You have to press on the bottom, but it's not really clear where or how hard. So it doesn't always turn on at the first try. It's a small tradeoff for getting an otherwise great light at a reasonable price.
