4.0 out of 5 stars.  Adhesive works better than clamps..., January 29, 2011
By The will to win is nothing without .. (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
A rear view mirror is a MUST for anyone riding with traffic.

HELMET mirrors are NOT for everyone as they do require some getting used to. It took me at least 2-3 rides before I got used to it. I've been using one since 2003 and do not feel safe without one.

Helmet mirrors do a better job as you can still have a blind spot with the bicycle mounted mirrors - I have my helmet mirror set so I can see my shoulder and the side of my head. This gives me a clear view of traffic behind and to my right. By turning my head 30 degrees to my right, I completely "sweep" to all lanes on my left side.

I've tried this and the Blackburn helmet mirror. This one is definitely better.

MINUS
- Does not remove (the Blackburn pops off the base so you can remove it offroading, for example. Don't lose it!)

PLUS
- Shorter arm is stiffer than Blackburn (it's an I-Beam section)
- Adjustment range is better than Blackburn
- Lighter mirror vibrates less than Blackburn

Note: The helmets I have used them on are the Giro Atmos, Giro Animas, Bell Forza II and Bell Phi II

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Sticky adhesive isn't enough., September 4, 2008
By John Dow (Indian Head, MD USA)
I didn't really "get it" with this item. The mounting pad is relatively large and stiff and doesn't conform well to the curves of the helmet. Two 3M "stickies" are provided, but it's very difficult to remove the paper protectors from the adhesive double sided tape without damaging it (I ruined the first piece just trying to get the papers off of it). There need to be more instructions on handling the adhesive material, and discussion of strategies for selecting a good attachment location. When you finally glue the large paddle-like pad onto the helmet (in my case, a Bell Metropolitan), various air vents and curves make for a less than perfect attachment, and off it comes after a day or two. While it WAS attached for a while, the mirror worked well enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Third Eye Helmet Mirror, May 17, 2009
By D. Brian Youens (Murrieta, CA USA)
Although I messed up installing the mirror the first time, once installed I have used the mirror for over six months, traveling over 1,000 miles, with no problems. It has stayed attached to my Trek helmet perfectly. Unless I hit the mirror, in my clumsy fashion, it always stays in position. Parts and repairs are readily available. I would never bike without a mirror of this type--it can save your life!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Too difficult to align, August 14, 2009
By Ed Arildson
I've used a handlebar mounted mirror in the past, but it seemed that a mirror attched to my helmet would give me more flexibility in seeing what's behind me. Perhaps it would, but I found it extremely difficult to attach this mirror to my helmet and adjust it without having the mirror come loose from the helmet. I've gone back to a handlebar mounted mirror.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  tim, September 15, 2008

the sticker never holds this mirror mount to the helmet. Although I get Gorilla Glue and glue it in the helmet where is stays-put beautifully. Mirror works well.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Short Lived Usefulness, March 29, 2010
By Bill (Colorado)
This mirror worked OK for about a month before the joints started working loose. After that time it would not stay in adjustment for more than a few miles. A real pain when you really need it. This product is cheap and I would never buy another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor Adhesive or poor installation, August 24, 2007
By David P. Bullard
I had problems with the mirror very soon falling off the smooth plastic helment shell. I can't honestly
determine whether it's poor adhesive or poor installation on my part.
Other wise it's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice for the price, September 15, 2011
By kellykungfu
Great mirror for the price. One thing that I didn't see anyone talk about is getting it on the correct side of your helmet. I'm a right hand and right eyed person, but thinking that traffic would almost always be on my left, I stuck this on my left, bad idea. If you do not use your dominate eye for this mirror, it'll be almost impossible to focus in on whats being reflected in the mirror. Good thing, this product comes with two double sided tapes :)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works pretty good, September 11, 2010
By mwillard
Took some time to get used to since the mirrow isn't big and is close to your head. Allows you to see people coming up on you but hard to make out faces. I used it to keep an eye on my wife who usually is riding behind me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Third Eye Pro Helmet Mirror, July 4, 2010
By Bill
This very light weight miror is positioned so that I never really need to turn my head more than a couple inches to see what might be coming up from behind. The purchase of this mirror has turne out to be one of the most valuable pieces of my cycling gear. I will never ride without a mirror again. I use the same bike helmet for roller skiing, and the same is true under those circumstances. The one thing that I did differently than instructed is that I actually used some small sheet metal screws to more securely hold it to the inside my helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  third Eye Pro Helmet Bicycle Mirror, July 4, 2010
By Richard
This is the second one of these I have owned. I've used this same product for a few years now and find it great for touring, riding in traffic and even on bike trails. My first one is still on my older back up helmet. The only tricky thing is that when I mount it inside my helmet(which I recommend) I like to use a short flat head screw to give the supplied double sided tape a little help holding the flat attachment tab to the slightly curved inside edge of helmet. This style of tab mount (in my opinion) doesn't work well at all on the outside due to the irregular outside surfaces and openings in most helmets. I love the way it works once mounted and wouldn't recommend anyone ride without one. I've recommended this mirror to several of my friends and they think its great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fan of 3rd Eye mirrors, May 7, 2010
By J. Carrera Ventura (Spain)
This is the second mirror I purchase from 3rd Eye, I've never had a complaint and that still holds (in fact, I just bought my third mirror). My first purchase was the hardshell mirror (mechanically attached to the helmet): worked fine, didn't fall no matter how hard I rode, gave me a permanent security boost and made me be safe at places where most bicyclists risk their lives on a regular basis.

Realized how much I liked the mirror and how used I was getting to it when I first started to look for it instinctively even when *walking* down the street.

I no longer ride my bike without it. It takes no time to learn how to use it, and after that you simply can't remember when you didn't wear it. Same difference as going from not wearing to wearing a helmet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, easy application, October 5, 2009
By Marc A. Thomas
This is a great product. I was able to put it on my helmet in about 5 minutes (after reading the instructions, then finding the optimal place to put it.) I have not gotten much use out of it however, because a week after I got this, my bike was stolen. for the 2 instances I was able to use it, it worked very well.. I was able to clearly see oncoming traffic. My only beef with this product is that the sticky applicant it is supplied with appears to fall off. I suggest adding some superglue, or addition adhesive of some sort as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  this is a "have to" item for me, December 15, 2008
By Vonniepedals (Kansas)
i don't drive a car at all, i transport myself 100 to 150 miles a wk, so i have to have 2 mirrors, one on the handlebars and one on my helmet, no options
this mirror helmet went through a year and a half and i have replaced it now
it is good
yeah it moves around in my helmet, (i don't use the sticky tape, i just push it in between the styrafoam and hard helmet plastic) i can reach up and adjust it without too much hassle (bell skater type helmet)
since i am not always sitting, i have to have a "standing" mirror

stay safe

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Installation, February 12, 2007

You really have to be very carefull when installing this product, the instruction said that it goes inside the helmet, this way makes the helmet uncorfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good product but beware: Doesn't fit all helmets, January 18, 2012
By Andrew Fetherston
A nice enough mirror that adjusts easily and stays put. But be aware that although the listing says "attaches to any helmet," it doesn't. When it arrives, the packaging says "glues to smooth hardshell helmets." If you have an aerodynamically-shaped helmet -- the most common kind where I ride -- the mounting pad won't stick.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very pleased overall., September 4, 2011
By Scott
Overall I am very please with this. I ended mounted it to my BMX helmet with screws as the adhesive tape didn't work out, even the 3M two sided foam tape came loose. Not surprising since it has been over 100 degress here in Texas for over 60 days.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, but hard to attach, May 31, 2008
By cyberex11 (Mountain View, CA)
I am echoing the comments left by David B. regarding the challenge of keeping it attached to the helmet. Third Eye now has the same mirror that attaches with a clamp; go with that one I think.

Also, consider a handle-bar attached mirror instead of a helmet-attached one if you are prone to motion-sickness, as helmet ones tend to be a little more shaky.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best helmet mounted cycle mirror, May 20, 2012
By Eric ICC GM (Ann Arbor)
I have owned both the Cycle Aware Reflex and the Third Eye Clip on, and Third Eye Pro helmet mounted bicycle mirrors. The new Third Eye Pro is absolutely the best helmet mounted mirror I've used. The larger mirror on the Third Eye Pro is amazing. Excellent optical quality. Great adjustability. I found that the gooseneck adjustment of the Cycle Aware got very loose and would come out of adjustment all the time. THe Third eye has ball and socket joints that are much more adjustable and stable. Also, I didn't think that the optical quality of the Cycle Aware was as good as the Third Eye. The Third Eye Pro also has a larger mirror than either the Reflex or the Clip on. Really amazing field of view.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great mirror, but good mounting well takes some time., May 18, 2012
By S. Green
I have used this mirror on another helmet for years. It has served me well, but I got a new helmet so it was time to get a new mirror. As others have said, forget about the tape that come with it and go right for the super glue. Yes, it is a permanent mount, but that is not a bad thing. (Also why I needed a new one when getting a new helmet!) The new helmet did not have a great place to mount it, so I ended up trimming some of the plastic to make a good fit. (See pictures.) Also use some form a gel glue as the liquid ran everywhere. You can see a little residue form the extra glue. I think the company needs to update their design to match the newer helmet styles. Better yet, partner with a helmet company and make a helmet with the mirror being part of the helmet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good balance between style and function, May 17, 2012
By brownsfan4life (Columbus, OH USA)
Out of all of the accessories I have purchased for my bike, the mirror has proven to be the hardest to get right. I have horns on my bike that do not have a hole at the end that allows for bar end mirrors, so that option was not a possibility for me. Other mirrors that clamp onto the handlebar stick way out and can cause a serious injury in the event of a crash. I tried a couple and wound up tossing them after my first ride or two with them. The only "benefit" I got from them was getting to have the paint scratched off of a large section of my handlebar while mounting and adjusting. I tried to avoid getting a helmet mounted mirror because I think they look goofy and I don't like something extending into my field of vision on one side. Unfortunately a helmet mounted mirror was my only choice due to process of elimination.

This mirror turned out to be the best of the bunch for me. I like the fact that it is compact and the color matches my helmet. You can mount this on the exterior or interior of the helmet. Be careful of sizing in relation to the type of helmet you have. The attachment end is rather large (I would guess somewhere around 3 inches by 2 inches) and you may not have enough surface to attach the mirror to depending on what type of helmet you have. I have a Schwinn Thrasher Adult Micro Helmet and had enough space on the side to mount this securely to the foam of the helmet. The 3M tape provided is pretty sticky, although you may need to enhance the attachment to your helmet depending on how much surface you can get this flush with and if some of the helmet vents are cutting across the attachment point. No problem, just add a bit of Gorilla Glue or perhaps even some small screws like the gentleman who posted pics on this product did. When I first mounted this I did notice that one of the edges kept coming loose from the helmet due to the slight bend that it needed to have to fit flush on the helmet. I slapped some Gorilla Glue on that section and taped it over for the night. I haven't had any problems with that end working itself loose since.

As far as functionality, this is great. There is plenty of adjustment range and I had no problems tweaking it to a good viewing point for me. I have it set up so that I only have to turn my head slightly to the left to see behind me and I have no problem seeing pretty far down the street or trail behind me. The view is clear and is not distorted at all. The fact that this is so lightweight and made out of plastic helps to cut down on the vibration factor tremendously as well. This is so lightweight that I haven't noticed any sensation of the helmet feeling heavier on the side of the helmet that I have it attached to and I love that. I didn't have any problems with the adjustment on the mirror becoming loose and I have not had to adjust this while out riding yet. Once I have it set up to where I want it to be at the beginning of my ride I don't have to adjust it at all even when I am hitting some harsh hills. I can't really speak to the longevity of this because I have only been riding with it for just over a month, but so far so good.

Overall this is a great product. I would say it's the least goofy looking helmet mirror you can buy and it definitely performs as good as can be expected for a small helmet mounted mirror. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality helmet mounted mirror that doesn't make you look like a complete goof ball while riding.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't work with my helmet, May 15, 2012
By Permanent tourist (Folsom, CA USA)
There was not a place anywhere on my helmet where I could affix this mirror. The instructions suggested mounting it inside the lip of the helmet, but doing so caused the socket to rub against my head uncomfortably. Couldn't find a place on the outside of the helmet that would work, so sent it back.

The construction looked solid enough. Lightweight but sturdy plastic and a good quality mirror.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Addicted to the mirror - (tape is useless have to screw it to Helment), May 9, 2012
By Chris J. Curry
Good mirror. Sticky tape it comes with is WORTHLESS. I only used it to bike 1/2 mile to see if the mirror was in a good position and it just about fell off. I read reivews and new that I was going to have to screw the mirror to the helment which I did and it works fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not for me., April 16, 2012
By Castle Restorations (Raymond, ME United States)
I've been riding with mirrors for years and wanted to add one to a bike that didn't have any traditional mounting options. I decided to try the helmet mount. Other people seems to like them and it's not a big investment. Nope. I tried it for about 2 weeks and felt much less safe using it than I did when I swung it out of the way. The time it takes to locate cars takes your attention off the road. I'm usually glancing in the mirror when coming to a difficult section of road the taking my attention off the road at that moment is just wrong. If you want to look at your shoulder or ear during the ride this would be a great tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Best helmet mounted mirror, March 23, 2012
By cfnyc
I think I tried every helmet mounted mirror out there - blackburn, sunlight, 3rd eye non-pro, cycleaware and maybe even some hat I have forgotten. This one is far from perfect but is the best one available. The mirror is large and flat. The mounting system is flexible enough to adjust just the way I like. The problem is that it falls off. I fixed this by putting velcro on the helmet and the mount. That way it hasn't fallen off and I can take it off when I need to.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  life saver. works well. been using these mirrors for years., January 12, 2012
By Shawn T. Sears
I've done lots of bike riding. This year I rode over 1000 miles, and have ridden across the country in the past. I've been using these mirrors for 10 yrs.
I also do lots of short rides around home. For all occasions, this mirror is in my opinion a must at this point. I'm happily addicted to it. It is just what it says: a third eye. I can see behind me by just glancing, without turning my head, swerving, worrying, etc. I know who's coming (cars, semi trucks, campers w big mirrors, other cyclists, etc.) if they're giving me space, how far away they are, and It's awesome.
I use the mirror so much that when i'm walking down the street w no helmet on, I still look in the spot where the mirror would be to see what's behind me.
The mirror folds back against the helmet and out of the way when you take off your helmet, if you want, which is nice.
Better than a handle bar mounted mirror because those show the vibration of the road and are unclear. Also on a helmet mounted mirror, you can turn your head to see different things/adjust the view, behind you.
One last thing is that you can also notice views behind you that would otherwise go unnoticed, like moonrise or a mountain vista, etc.

Every year or so the swivel joint gets loose, and I replace the mirror with a new one. No big deal.
Also the sticky pad that sticks the mirror to the helmet hasn't always been sufficient for me. I like to use a couple very small screws or tacks to reinforce it's connection to my helmet.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Mounting correctly is annoying, works ok, November 25, 2011
By Iremetal
I installed this on a Trek helmet. I put it on the visor, not an easy feat. Took me a while to figure out the little 3M stickers. The instructions don't really describe the process. Its a thin clear stickie that you peel, then stick to the flat mounting surface. Then you peel the other side and mount it. Adjusting the mirror is weird, but it is highly adjustable. I am still getting used to the view angle, since you really have to adjust it while riding the bike to be in the correct position. This means I have to be really careful trying to watch the road while I adjust. This also means I must readjust every time I get on the bike since I move it when I take off my helmet. The mirror is fine, and with patience and careful mounting, I think it can work fine. I will probably have to try again on a different spot. If your helmet has a lot of contours, I would try to find something more suitable. This was really intended for a more flat or slightly curved surface. The sticker hold VERY well though.
