4.0 out of 5 stars.  Had it a week, March 23, 2009
By Anonymous_me (chicago, IL United States)
Actually, it might deserve a 5 star rating. I'm still afraid to just hold on to the counter top, not holding on to a chair w/ other hand. Watch the videos at YouTube. I think they're good.
----------------------------
When it came (quite quickly), I sprayed the whole thing w/ a silicone lubricant. (It dried, and I think it'll act like a wax job). I assembled it easily. In the past, I played w/ a lot of bikes, so it was all very obvious, as to assembling the thing. We all have different backgrounds, so maybe it would confuse some people. There are no instructions. Understand that the left hand pedal must go on the left side. This is so that when you pedal, it will tend to tighten that pedal( a bit). If they didn't make the pedals that way, you might ride the bike and literally unscrew the pedal. That wouldn't be good. All bikes are made that way. For the left pedal, righty-tighty/lefty loosy is reversed. Look at the pedals. Somewhere, one pedal has an "R" on it, the other, an "L". This means there's a front and back to the unicycle. Remember, or mark one pedal as left or right. Put the saddle on in the appropriate direction, I think the fatter part of seat should go towards rear.
--------------------
A little logic, don't panic, and I believe assembly will be obvious. Anyone who's ever messed with bikes can help you. The seat post is very much like your older bikes, look at an old Schwinn (or any older, 2-wheeled bike) and see how the seatpost clamp fits.

Go to YouTube, type in "how to build your unicycle". Its a very nice video, done by a British man. Towards the end, he'll talk about quick-release-lever for seat. I don't believe this uni has a quick release, but everything else in video is perfect, it will help if you're lost. The part about the quick release comes towards the end, so most of the video will help you a lot.
-----------------
The bike comes w/ a warning that its not intended for rugged use. No kidding. Why would a beginner wanna do stunts anyway? I figured if I don't learn, or I do learn how to ride, and wanna move up, I can probably get back most of the purchase price. Or, I could keep this bike for specific purposes. Most of the videos at YouTube advise you to start w/ a 20" wheel.
----------------
My bike came w/ all the right parts. As for the man who bought one for a kid, I don't blame him. Poor guy got all excited about giving it to this kid, then found out he had all the wrong parts. I'd be as mad as he was.
-----------------------
I've dropped the uni several times on the kitchen floor, the seat seems to withstand the damage easily. Concrete or asphalt would probably be more abrasive, maybe scratch the seat. I don't know.
------------------------
One can find old Schwinn unis, but the catch is, the old Schwinn rims required you to buy only Schwinn tires. So, you're stuck buying only Schwinn tires. Few or no options. AND, if you wanna buy a colored tire, to avoid marking up the floors in your place or any building, I doubt you'd get them in an old Schwinn tire. Schwinns are now made in Asia, and they no longer make the rims to trap you into buying Schwinnn tires. But this means you'll be buying ancient technology tires, any new tire technologies won't be incorporated into these old Schwinn tires. Most likely, they're just using some ancient molds. This problem only involves older Schwinns, I believe.
------------------------------------------------
Also the older Schwinn unis have seat post adjustment where a bolt goes thru some holes drilled in the seatpost. Kinda like a belt, what happens if you actually need a hole between two of the holes? I felt that this Avenir might be better than buying an older Schwinn. If you're really short, the seatpost might go down so far it rubs the tire. Then, take a hacksaw, remove a few inches from bottom of seat post.
-----------------------------
Placing the fork on the wheel wasn't obvious at first, just stop look, play with it, it becomes obvious, as it can only go on one way. There are 2 "u" shaped clamps, these hold the frame onto the wheel. On each side, tighten each bolt a bit, going back and forth between the 2 bolts. Don't wrench one down all the way, but go back and forth, keeping about the same tension/tension/tightness on each bolt. Get both bolts on that side nice and snug.Don't forget to use the lockwasher on the bolt. A lockwasher is a washer with a "cut" in it.
-----------
Again, this bike is NOT intended for jumping curbs or any tricks. This bike is suitable only for riding up and down the street, don't abuse the thing. But this is a beginners bike, so you won't be hard-core yet anyway.
--------------------------------
I suspect you'd be happy w/ this uni if you're a beginner, can't guarantee it, but I think so. Then, if you learn to ride, figure out what type of riding you like, spend the money and buy something really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good little unicycle, great price!, October 7, 2008
By Smartee (Colorado)
Bought this unicycle for my 11 y.o. son. Had some trepidation in picking 20" vs 24" wheel. Glad we picked this size. He's tall but friends all recommended starting off on a 20". I now agree. We adjusted the seat as low as possible without the bar touching the wheel. Assembly was fairly easy, but no instructions were included. Be sure to note the left (L) and right (R) pedals and install them on correct sides. Otherwise they will twist off when riding. They screw onto crank arms. If you're short, you may need to hacksaw off some of the pipe the seat attaches to. We just managed with the shortest setting. Friends with unicycles suggested duct taping the seat for protection as the cycle falls a lot when a beginner is starting off. Seems a good quality cycle and a great beginner one. Would recommend to others. It took about 10 days for my son to learn. Helpful videos on learning to ride unicycle on uTube.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great unicycle., April 9, 2009
By max
I bought this unicycle with money that i had saved up and let me tell you it is well worth the money. At only $60 it is a steal. Also, other reviewers have stated that the pedals didn't fit, but that is no longer a problem as the manufacturer has resolved that issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This Beginner Is Completely Satisfied, November 6, 2009
By GaryM
I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. The primary reason I decided to learn to ride a unicycle is to help combat one of the preventable effects of aging, now that I'm in my early fifties. I've noticed that some older people seem to start losing their sense of balance, and I can't think of any better exercise to prevent or even reverse that loss than unicycle riding.
-
The product assembled quite easily due to the simplicity of a unicycle, and all necessary parts were included and correct. Unfortunately, the amount of torque needed to tighten the seat clamp in order to keep the seat from twisting off-center would seem to hinder quick readjustment to accommodate different-height riders, but for me that is just a good excuse not to have to share my unicycle ;-)
-
I've been learning to ride in my apartment on light tan carpet, and there are no signs of any black marks from the tires, although once I take it on the street it will have to be an "outdoor only" cycle. I hadn't even counted on being able to ride it indoors, but once I put it together, indoor use seemed quite doable, especially with the smaller size and greater maneuverability of a 20" wheel. Riding down a hallway may even be the perfect place for early training. It worked well for me, and I've even managed to keep from putting any marks on the wall.
-
It's been a long time since I've been this happy with a purchase. This Avenir unicycle seems like the perfect opportunity to discover the benefits and satisfaction of learning to ride a unicycle, and for a very reasonable price. Be sure to let me know if there are any unicycle gangs for seniors that I can join ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  just one problem, December 3, 2008
By Rebecca A. Swavely
Everything seemed to be fine until my husband went to put the pedals on. The fittings were the wrong size and he had to go to a bike shop to buy the right pedals, making this not the best deal afterall. Another reviewer had the same problem. We are happy with unicycle, and it was shipped promptly.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Birthday Disaster, November 2, 2008
By B.D. (Bismarck, ND)

I bought this unicycle as a birthday present for my son. It came just in time. The unicycle came unassembled without any instructions. Fine, I can get past that. However, when we tried to put the pedals on, we found the stem that screws into the assembly (on the pedals) was too small. The pedals did not fit! I took it over to a cycle shop in town-they had pedals that fit for $20.00! Rather than do that I ended up buying a unicycle locally and packing up the whole stupid thing and sending it back. Obviously, whoever made this thing is seriously lacking in the quality control department. I would reccommend you most certainly NOT buy this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pedals Not A Problem - A Great Unicycle, December 27, 2008
By John Karol (Orford, NH)
I purchased two of these superbly built 20-inch unicycles - one for me and then one for my son. Both came with pedal threads too small for the cranks. A quick call to Raleigh America Inc. at 1-800-222-5527 (ask for Tyler in Customer Service @ Ext. 346, or Tony in Sales @ Ext. 250) set everything straight. They immediately shipped the proper pedals free of charge. Raleigh America is aware of the situation and has taken steps to correct it. This is a great little unicycle at an unbelievably reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fun for a beginner., June 8, 2011
By Jimmy Salvatore (Chicago, IL)
If you're looking at this, you're probably either a beginner or someone buying a unicycle for a beginner. There *are* cheaper unicycles on this site, but you will get what you pay for. I've had this unicycle for around four months and have used it daily. I fall off of it a lot. So far, besides some scratches on the seat (which people tell me can be avoided by taping the seat up somehow) there is absolutely no damage to the unicycle -- it is an extremely strong little thing!

I'm also a short guy, around 5'4", and I'm near the lowest possible setting for this unicycle. I'd worry that maybe someone much shorter than me wouldn't be able to ride it. Other than that, I highly recommend this. It's a lot of fun, and don't get discouraged if you aren't able to ride it at the beginning -- it took me a week to be able to go more than a few inches!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't last, April 29, 2011
By Don Carter
My first impression of this unicycle was very good, but it turned out my 12 year old son quickly learned to ride it and rode it often. Now it's 4 months old, and one of the pedal arms will not stay tight. For very light use, it my be fine, but if one of your kids really takes to it, it won't last long. I do like the seat design and it has held up well, but the design of the shaft and the way it mates to the pedal arms isn't good.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Unicycle, January 16, 2009
By Marsha Lot
I was really excited when I first got it in the mail. After I screwed in everything and pumped up the wheel, I tried to get onto it and being unexperience, I'm not sure if it was just me or the unicycle was too tall. I put it at the lowest it could go before the bar started scraping the wheel and it was still a bit tall. And I'm not sure if the wheel is supposed to flatten like it is but I always pump it up to the max but it still flattens. It's still a great ride though!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice cycle, February 24, 2010
By jbrooks544
This unicycle works great. I got one for my 9 year old daughter, who has a 25" inseam/instep whatever it is called (measurement from the floor to crotch, using regular sneakers. As other posts say, this could be used down to 24" inseam. I just had to hacksaw off a few inches of the bottom of the seat post, so that it would go down far enough and not hit the tire. This takes 20 seconds. This cycle is good quality, far better than she was using at school. It has a really nice hand hold on the front of the seat. She is very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect UNI for the beginner!, February 5, 2011
By BoWiiVille (VA)
During this review, keep in mind that this is my first unicycle and I am still learning to ride. I believe this unicycle is very well built. The frame is very sturdy and well-designed. It was easy to assemble (10-20 minutes) and included some brief instructions. The instructions said that you need an 8mm and 15mm wrench. Well, you really need a 10mm wrench (wheel), a 15mm wrench (pedals), and an allen wrench (seat). Other than that mistake, the instructions were straight forward. I feel that most people could probably do the assembly without instructions anyway. All the parts arrived and were packaged well. My shipment came in an unmarked box unlike some other reviewers here. The unicycle box (which is marked) was actually packaged inside an Amazon box. This unicycle looks like it can take all the abuse that a beginner will normally dish out. The pedals are plastic, but they are very hard and thick. The seat is well shaped and has soft plastic bumpers for the normal "falls" associated with learning. The bumpers are actually removable, so I'm assuming they could be replaced if you beat them up too much. The seat felt comfortable at first, but your butt is going to get sore during the learning process. There isn't an abundance of padding, but it is sufficient. I feel that over time you will get used to it and when your riding technique improves, the discomfort will probably go away. The tire definitely looks like more of an indoor tire. I haven't taken mine outside yet, but it appears that asphalt could wear down the tread quickly. I also feel that the tire is a little on the narrow side. This probably makes it easier to turn, although I can't say for sure since I can only ride in a straight line for about 4 feet. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The quality of this UNI is well worth the price.
--------------
Update: 2/08/2011
I've had this UNI for 5 days now. The UNI has had several falls and is holding up well. The seat bumpers are great and only show some minor scuffing. The rest of the UNI still looks brand new. Right now I am riding on hardwood and linoleum floors. The tire works very well on these surfaces. One tip I will give to beginners trying to learn: Try to squeeze the seat with your thighs. This really helps you feel more attached to your UNI and also helps you keep more weight on the seat and less weight on the pedals. It also helps you turn when you get to that point. After 4 days of constant practice, I've ridden 30 feet unsupported several times. I still feel this is a great UNI to learn on.
---------------
Update: 2/14/2011
I've now taken this UNI outside on a few tennis courts. As expected, the tire already shows a little wear on the tread, but not too bad. The seat bumpers are still protecting the seat from most of the falls. One small issue I have found is that the seat can get turned slightly if it falls a certain way. I've never had a problem with the seat moving during riding, but since the post is completely smooth, there is not enough friction to keep it from turning slightly during a hard fall. It really isn't a big deal, and I would still rate this UNI 5 stars considering the price. After only 8 days, I was able to ride at least 200 feet unsupported without falling. Tennis courts are great for training because they are flat and you can estimate how far you traveled.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great unicycle. Worth every penny., July 24, 2010
By Charles Metz (Elgin, IL)
I received my unicycle on Thursday night and by Friday night my son and I were already riding about 1/2 a block on it. I bought this for both of us but we are going to order another one today. We have already gotten our money's worth and it is a lot of fun to learn. I am 43 (165 lbs.) and my son is 13 (120 lbs.) and the 20" unicycle is a great fit for both of us. Everyone told us we would get hurt but so far it has been one of the safer things we have tried. You just step off and try it again. After slamming it and dropping it on the road a couple of hundred times we have not damaged a thing. The seat protectors are a big plus. The only thing I would have liked is a quick release seat post. Overall I would rate this unicycle an A++. It is a lot of fun and a great workout.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Uni Bicycle, February 15, 2010
By A casual stroll through the lu.. (Prague)
I bought a unicycle to ride to work in the Prague city center, as I thought it would be easier to move amongst people than a bicycle. The unicycle came unassembled without any instructions so it took me about 6 months to figure out how to put it together. It didn't come with a unicycle chain or any reflectors, horn or mud flaps, so you're just getting a basic unicycle.

The unicycle frame is steel. It's okay for a cheap unicycle. Unfortunately I had no idea how to ride it and the very first times I tried, I crashed badly, once into a few light posts. So you may want to try to practice on soft grass or pig mud before you head out into car traffic.

After a few months of riding it, I found out that it is basically not feasible to ride to work because you spend more energy just to go a short distance. After a few more months and crashes, it was run over by a bus.

So, if you're in the circus it's an okay at home training unicycle. If you're a midget be warned, this is a large size so your feet won't reach.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  For the people overseas and others, April 28, 2011
By Ji
I live in an APO address and I was thrilled that I didn't have to pay for shipping because of the FREE shipping saver or something like that. After I placed my order, it took about 11 days to get here. It took me about 30 minutes to find out how to assemble it: First I pumped up the tires, then attached the forked metal thing to the tire by using the small cradle-like metal, the bolt, nut, and the flat, light, piece which I placed between the nut and bolt. After that I screwed in the pedals and fastened it more using a wrench. The seat part and how to correctly put it on the body confused me the most but I realized it was pretty simple. Just place the seat at a desired hight and put the post collar and set crew at the conjuction of that and the forked thing and tighten it really, really well using the wrench. When your done with all that, your good to go...kind of. I'm currently still practicing by using a railing at a nearby bridge for support. You have to remember to place 90% of your body weight onto your seat and NOT your legs. Of course this might hurt your privates. Just practice, practice, practice and your bound to be good at it sooner or later.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good beginner unicycle, March 24, 2011
By Lisa
I purchased this unicycle for my 13 year old daughter for her birthday. Amazon was good enough to put the box inside one of their own shipping boxes (otherwise she would have seen a box arrive that read "UNICYCLE" on it and the surprise would have been ruined!) It is a nice size for her to start learning on. She has been riding it inside on the carpeting in our great room until the weather breaks. I'd recommend it for any other beginner. I also purchased "Unicycling - First Steps, First Tricks" for her. With lots of pictures and descriptions, it's a good tool whether you learn best by reading or observing.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  well, lots of fun, February 23, 2011
By Karen (Beautiful Southern California)
I love it. I just about killed myself trying it out, but I even laughed as I crashed into the printer. I was trying it out in the office right after my husband put it together, and I crashed. As he pulled me to my feet, wide eyed with concern, I could not help myself, and laughed. Yes, in spite of the goose egg on my head. Glad I wasn't hurt, my boss would be very UN-impressed.

It must be very well made, because my nearly 300 pound husband can sit on it, and nothing even creaks. I can't undertstand how some people have theirs falling apart, unless they didn't tighten it up properly. This thinkg was a piece of cake to assemble. I think it took 5 minutes. It took longer to figure out the included stand. Place one petal through the stand, and have the hook touching the fork. the wheel sits across the base of the stand, and Voila! nothing to it.

I can't wait till my daughters birthday to give it to her. Oh yeah, I almost forgot it's for her....maybe!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  solid product, June 16, 2010
By North Sunny
This is not a heavy-duty unicycle. The frame and bearings are pretty strong, but the tire is a little weak, even though for my weight (about 150 lb) it is more than enough. If you plan to do a lot of jumping, you will need wider tires. The build quality is good. Assembly is easy. It took me about 7 minutes to put it together. This was without somebody else to hold the pieces while I tightened the screws. Had I had help from someone else, I would have done it in less than 4 minutes. Of course some tools are needed for the assembly -- some wrenches and a screw driver are good enough. There is no need for instructions. And indeed there isn't one.

Once assembled, it's ready to go. For teenagers, learning how to ride the unicycle may be easy. I am a half a century old, therefore, I had a hard time learning how to ride this thing. I don't want to rush, so I plan to build training wheels and mount them to the unicycle. I have a very good design but yet to find the time to build it. Once that is done, I will be busy practicing it.

In all, I highly recommend it. The price is right, and the quality is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good uni, short seat post, July 3, 2009
By Kirk Rogers (Guinea)
Good unicycle overall, at least for kids. No instructions came for assembly, but it was really very easy to put together if you have the wrenches and minimal mechanical skills. The seat post is way too short for me and my teen son, both about 5'11. So this is a good choice for kids and short people to learn on. Later we ordered a 24" Torker from ebay (at that time the price was better than Amazon). Torker unis are excellent quality for the price. And the 24" uni is a much better ride than this 20" "toy." If you already know how to ride, and aren't short, get a 24" Torker! And if you are tall, a 24" uni would be the best choice for learning on as well. It comes with a long seat post which can be cut off to desired length. Much better design!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice for the price, seat twists too easily though, January 12, 2009
By J. Kelley (Phoenix, AZ United States)
Got this for my son for Christmas, he is big for his age at 8 and it fits well. Had to cut the seat shaft so we could lower the seat to his height. Only complaint is the seat height adjustment is done with a wrench/nut, not the handy manual lever and even though I crank it down hard, the seat eventually twists out of allignment with the wheel. My son has rounded the edges of the nut also, I'll have to put a new one on the next adjusment.

By J. K. Garland (Newburgh, IN)
We got this for our 12 yr old son, and he loves it. He has almost gotten the hang of it, in 3 days. We got a book to help him learn how. The unicycle came quickly, with all the correct parts. We had to cut the bar down, in order to make it short enough for him, but it was no problem. There were no instructions, but simple assembly. It was a great price, and seems to be holding up to repeated dropping. I would definitely recommend this as a great starter unicycle!

One thing I did not like was that on the outside of the box, in large lettering, it said "Unicycle". Unfortunately this was a Christmas gift and the recipient was the one receiving the package from delivery. So, it was not a surprise.

Otherwise, unicycle was in good condition and works as expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  fun beginners unicycle, August 8, 2011
By LookitsMira
I bought this for my husband and he loved it. It took maybe 10 minutes to assemble. I don't know if this was specified, but it also came with a stand-- an unexpected bonus for us. It fits his six foot frame and we adjusted it to it's lowest setting and I rode it too and I'm 5'4".

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product at a great price., March 4, 2011
By Pablo
My son has this unicycle for about 2 weeks now, and I'm amazed at how much he's worked on it, and how strong this device is.

It was everything we expected: strong in every way (the seat, the wheel, the pedals, the axle). It is withstanding so much work that I'm amazed it does not have scratches and it is still working as expected.

Recommend it without a doubt.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good buy., March 3, 2011
By sideshowgal
This is a wonderful starter unicycle my only wish is that I had more time to ride it.

Pros:
easy to assemble even without instructions ( just takes simple knowledge)

Easy transport

light weight but durable.

stores easily.

cons:

Tires do deflate fairly easily so its good to have a hand pump. (when i say fairly easily i mean a week or two. my bike tire lasts for at least a month or more.)

----

over all this is a great product I even had my friend who already knows how to unicycle try it out and she likes it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Unicycle!, January 21, 2011
By Joel
This unicycle is excellent. The seat has a handle on the front for tricks and the wheel is 20 inches. The assembly was easy but I should tell you - YOU WILL NEED 2 SPECIFIC WRENCHES TO ASSEMBLE. An adjustable wrench might work. If you're like me, you have every size wrench and every conceivable tool imaginable. But most people should be warned they will need specific tools for the assembly. Also, the unicycle's tire comes deflated so you will need to inflate it with a bike pump. Or should I say a "unike pump?" Anyway, great product. Very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  seems to be good, January 8, 2011
By ddddb4
Ordered as a christmas gift....was hoping to write something wonderful - but as of yet, the skills haven't been acquired by the recipient! Size seems to be appropriate - he is in his early 20's. Putting together was not too hard, just need more details - and it seems the tire goes low (but then again, we know nothing of unicyles and not sure what it needs to be). A great additon would be an info sheet for beginners.

I have already had 10 kids try to ride this unicycle and they love the challenge I can not wait until my daughter finally gets the hang of it. She loves it, it was really easy to put together, and its already been dropped on the ground 1000 times, its just an excellent product. Very happy with everything about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great, but make sure you are home for delivery if it's a gift!, December 26, 2010
By Muktown Mom (Mukwonago, MI)
Came with instructions and was easy for my 13yr old to put together with some assistance from my husband. Seems like a great bike for a beginner. Only problem was it was a Christmas present so I ordered it a few weeks before Christmas. Came promptly but big sticker marked UNICYCLE on the package. My son happened to be the first to see the box on the front step so that ruined the surprise a little. Otherwise seems like a nice bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty Darn Good!, September 5, 2010
By ChrowX
I don't honestly know all that much about unicycles but this one is pretty comfortable and easy to put together. I'm still learning how to ride it, after having underestimated how difficult it would be to learn, but it's a rewarding process.

There were no extra parts and everything popped together with ease. The only problem with it is that the seat doesn't stay in place and tends to rotate a little. So you'll be sitting on it, rocking for a while and then realize that it's turned left or right so you kind of have to jam it back into place. Luckily, it stays at the same height you set it at.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great unicycle, June 20, 2010
By Jen (Provo, Utah)
I bought this unicycle for my son's 12th birthday. It was easy to assemble even without instructions, but it was a bit too tall for my short son. My husband just sawed off a couple of inches and now it is perfect. My son had never ridden on a unicycle but learned in 3 days. He loves the handle on the front of the seat and uses it to get up on the unicycle without any support. His only complaint would be that it hurts his uknowwhat to sit on the seat. After having it only a couple of weeks, he will be riding it on stage as an Oomph Loompa in our community production of Willy Wonka. I give it 5 stars for keeping my son outside and happy all summer and for being such a great price. I bought this unicycle at Amazon with free shipping. I even used some of my swag bucks ([...]) so it was even cheaper.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  spurr-of-the-moment, April 7, 2009
By Anna Teixeira
I bought this unicycle for my boyfriend who decided he needed to know how to ride one. There was no reason to get it, and I didn't tell anyone, so no one could help me put it together. Being only around 90 pounds and having very frail limbs, even I was able to get the thing together by myself. It didn't come with instructions, but fortunately it's pretty self explanatory.
There are protective plastic covers on either side of the seat for beginners who fall often. The 20 inch wheel also came in handy because you don't tire as fast as you would with a smaller one. This product is of good quality for the price that it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Everything I asked for, October 25, 2010
By craze0matic
Really not much to say on this item. I shopped around and this fit the description for what I was looking for. When it arrived, everything I need was there and it came together beautifully. The only thing I tweaked was sawing off some of the seat post so it would go a bit shorter if need be. Other than that little modification, the unicycle's been great. I moved a few months back and had to disassemble it for storage purposes, and it came apart just fine. Smooth ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Avenir Deluxe Unicycle, May 24, 2010
By AC
This was the first unicycle I have ever bought and ridden. Let me say, this is great. The unicycle was easy and fun to ride. I mastered riding in less than a day. I started riding at about 1 am and went to sleep, woke up, immediately started riding again, and got the hang of it. The price for what you get is amazing. The quality of the unicycle is great and everything is great. It also has a small grabbing place that was not mentioned or shown in the picture on the seat level. The only bad thing is that you have to assembly the unicycle yourself and it does not come with instructions. But it was very easy to put it together. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. GO AVENIR!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great beginners Unicycle, May 8, 2010
By Joe
This Unicycle has brought much enjoyment to me. I live in a hilly area and it hasnt stopped me from getting a unicycle. I just have been bringing it to the park to learn. I pretty much got it down as of 3 days. It takes a lot of dedication and perserverence to learn to ride the most ridiculous, but fun, form of transportation ever. I started my learning on a handball court, which is a great place to start, the wall is great balance and fences surround it on 4 sides. Then I upgraded to the basketball court for more open space. I have gotten better there. It hs taken much abuse and functions fine. I would NOT suggest taping the unicycle handle because it just comes off anyway and makes a mess. It had shipped in 2 business days with standard free shipping. Very prompt. It came with no directions but [...] is a video on youtube that will definetely help. I am a 15 year old boy that assembled it with some basic knowledge on bicycles. Not difficult at all. So happy unicycling!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great unicycle, great price, April 19, 2010
By allyran (Omaha, NE United States)
We purchased this unicycle for our 9-year old son recently. It was fairly easy to assemble; make sure to note left and right pedals when assembling. Even though he is tall for his age, we did have to use a hacksaw to take a little bit off the height-adjustment pole. The unicycle is fairly sturdy with a good hand grip, occasionally the seat needs minor adjustment after a harder fall. Our son is fairly agile, very determined, and was able to ride several feet within a week. A few weeks later, he is able to do ramps, bounce off curbs, do inclines - this is a great balance-developer! He LOVES it!! This is really a great buy for the reasonable price - we highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  So much fun!, April 18, 2010
By Stephanie (Connecticut)
I love this thing, I've never tried to unicycle before and I bought it on an impulse along with a book on how to ride, and a stand to keep it up. It took me about a week to figure out how to do it. Along with a few falls, and scratches on my legs, this unicycle is great for beginners and I'm very happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very good unicycle, December 27, 2011
By Jeff
This is a very good basic unicycle. Assembly was not difficult, but could have been easier with clearer directions and some actual words rather than just pictures. I've taken apart enough bikes in my life and I'm pretty good at figuring out stuff like this so it wasn't a problem for me. But, I can see some people getting frustrated. (Most important thing is to make sure you've got the R pedal on the R crank and the L pedal on the L crank.) Once assembled the unicycle has been great. The seat is reinforced on the front and back to reduce damage from the repeated dropping you will do while learning to ride, which is a nice touch. I would have given this 5 stars except for 1)they raised the price $15 since I bought it a couple weeks ago, 2)there were 2 lock washers missing, and 3) as I said above the directions could be better. None of these things were show-stoppers but just not a perfect product. Bottom line: I would recommend this as long as they don't raise the price again.

One additional note: I didn't see it in the description, but mine came with a stand. Not sure if they all do or what...but I just thought I would mention that since Amazon has the "Frequently Bought Together..." section that recommends a stand.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid frame, but garbage hardware, December 25, 2011
By Tiggie
I don't have any unicycle experience, but assembling this thing was a bit of a nightmare, even though I have built bicycles from parts before. No problem with the pedals, as some have reported, but the bolts that are used to clamp the hub to the frame were just a bit too short to do the job and ended up stripping off due to the small amount of thread that was available.

In conclusion, buy the unicycle but plan on a quick trip to the hardware store for several dollars worth of stainless bolts and nuts to attach the wheel securely!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Missing parts, December 7, 2011
By sandy s. (NJ)
Upon opening box carton a bolt falls to the floor. Looked at my son and said this is not going to be good! Missing part is the one that stops your seat from moving up and down. Called mfg. directly and told me if they had it - it would take a week to get it to me! Said unacceptable and to call me back. Gentleman called me back immed. and had the piece and would FedEx it to me and I should get in 2 days.
Not happy with cycle instructions, very unclear - and missing parts but customer service was indeed helpful.. Have my fingers crossed that I will get parts in 2 days. Will update.............

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Value, April 14, 2012
By Tponty
If your want to learn to ride a unicycle and don't want to spend a whole lot of money, this is it. The chrome finish is not the best but the construction seems adequate to take some abuse. Just be sure to tape up the seat with duct tape for protection against falls. I have no problem putting together the unicycle but the seat post clamp looks cheap and needs a metric hex wrench to tighten. Since you need a fair amount of torque to keep the post from twisting, you can easily strip the head if using the incorrect wrench. The paddles and crank arms are marked L and R so make sure it matches and screw in the direction that the paddle will tighten itself while going forward. The is no recommendation on how much tire pressure you need, but 30-40 psi seems fine I am 5' 6" and it's just right with the seat post adjusted to the very bottom. You can just cut off the excess length if needed. It's also important to invest a few dollars on some good body protections like elbow, knee pads and helmet. Shin guards are a must when learning. You'll know why if you ever (and you will) got whacked on the shin by a paddle going backward at full speed. It takes some determinations to learn but it is not all that difficult - not even for a 63 years old senior like me. All in all I am pretty happy with the purchase and with the free shipping you just can't beat it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Still holding up strong, March 18, 2012
By mason
Everything is solid except for the seat clamp bolt which stripped when I tried to tighten it to stop the seat from slipping down. I imagine a rider of lesser weight than me (@200lbs) might not run into this issue. I replaced the bolt with a stronger one and now the seat stays up! I also taped my seat to prevent damage during my learning phase which was a good idea. Overall great cycle for the price.
