4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fast bike with a couple of quirks., February 12, 2009
By A. Walker (Kansas City, KS)
I've ridden this bike for 4-5 months, a few miles a day. It's a nice (fast!) commute bike, best for roads (but it's fun to drift around on dirt), and it has good, quality parts. I haven't yet gotten the derailleur set correctly, but for the most part I don't care and I'm too busy. It hit the good-enough point and I'm content.
Coming off of a cheap WalMart mountain bike, this thing is heaven. If anybody's looking for a step up from a basic ride-it-sometimes bike, this one is nice. If you're still only going to ride it sometimes, then why bother?
It's a little heavy to be called a road bike, which is probably why it's not, and I'm still wondering why exactly there needs to be a suspension (which must have added a fair share of useless weight). Also, the handlebar isn't as adjustable as most would like, and if you're 6' tall and one of those people who likes their legs to be fully extended when pedaling, it might not be possible on this bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice frame, but beware of some cheap components, July 6, 2009
By Cattivo (Chicago, IL)
Beautiful bike, has all the right features for a city commuter bike.

The bad:
The free wheel (or AKA "cassette") arrived defective. This is the part that your chain wraps around and has several gears (7 in this case), next to the rear wheel. Some of the gears on the free wheel were bent, cause the gear to slip. Very cheap made in China crap. The good news is that for $20 a bike shop can replace it for a nice Shimano free wheel. Then 1 pedal bent within 30 days (it looks like metal but interior has plastic).

The good:
Had the pedal and free wheel not being so crappy, I give this bike a sure 4 stars after a little money pured in for a free wheel and a pedal. Frame feels very solid and strong, yet lightweight aluminum. After a professional tune-up (and the 2 components above replaced), the bike is handling great.
The shifter is a good Shimano shifter (but not their best of course, this is a $240 bike). The gear changer is a basic Shimano touring, but still a Shimano.
Very easy to assemble. It is mostly assembled. This is the first bike I ever assembled right out of the box. It took me less than 2 hours, going very carefully. As long as you have a basic set of allen key, 1 regular adjustable wrench (for the pedals), and ONLY IF replacing the seat, a ratcheting wrench will be very helpful.

You WILL NEED to have the brakes and gears adjusted, and the wheel trued. If you can't do it, it is worth spending the $50 for a professional shop to do it. The difference afterwards is like night and day.

Conclusion:
This bike should be advertised as great bike that needs some additional parts purchased (to replace the 2 cheap components that will break easily)!
I added a nice comfortable seat, rear and front lights, splash guards (I know they aren't pretty, but necessary on a commuter bike, and actually looked pretty good with it). I might even add a rear rack, since this is now my official commuter bike. Once I poured some money in on repair mentioned above, accessories and a tune-up, I love this bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn Midmoor Men's Hybrid Bike, March 10, 2011
By Birdlegs (Sacramento)
10 years ago I wouldn't be caught dead on a bike like this, but time marches on, we get older and less inclined to ride a bike bent over at a 45 degree angle playing chicken with cars and rocks at 60 mph. In the past I have had a Nishiki road bike and a Specialized Rock Hopper mountain bike, both medium priced and much more expensive than this bike. Recently, my girl friend has been pressuring me to get a bike to accompany her on the American River Bike Trail here in Sacramento, and also for a trip to The Grand Tetons/Yellowstone this summer. My gonzo biking days are over, so I wanted the cheapest, most decent, most comfortable bike I could find. Consumer Reports rated this a best buy, so I decided to buy one from Amazon.

It arrived 3 days after ordering in a box measuring 54" length, 29" width, and 7.5" depth. The bike was very well packed and the exterior of the box had only minor shipping scuffs. The box was so well packed that it took me 20 minutes to remove all the foam, cardboard, and protective do-dads. It came with the rear wheel attached to the frame, and the only assembly required was the handlebars, front wheel, pedals, and the seat. The front wheel quick release was packed separately and had to be installed, which only requires pushing it through the hub.

The assembly was not a problem for me as I have completely overhauled bikes in the past, but if you are not mechanically inclined, you might want to have a bike shop assemble the bike and perform minor adjustments. I did have to tweak the rear brakes, as they were not centered, and I noticed the rear wheel was very slightly off true, but not too bad and that can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the spokes. It is better to have a bike shop do that. Surprisingly, all the gears shift with no adjustment at all.

As for fit, I am 6' 1", and standing over the bike with my feet on the ground, there is 3.5-4 inches of clearance between the top tube and my crotch, which is perfect for me. I think this bike would be OK for any one 5' 9" or taller, just make sure there is clearance between the top tube and your crotch to minimize damage to the family jewels. Sitting normally on the bike, I ride in a nearly upright position, although the handlebars can be adjusted to lean forward more if that is your desire. Some people complained about the seat, but I find it OK for the intended purpose of this bike and plan to keep it. The pedals don't impress me much, and I may change to these< ['] or something similar. Strapless toe clips would help too, but clip-ins would be overkill on this bike.

I have been riding the bike around town for a week and everything works with no problems. People that I meet are amazed that I only spent $229 for this thing. I do have some concerns however. The front wheel quick release is a little rough, which wouldn't matter that much, except I have to take the front wheel off to get the bike in my Honda Civic. Also I am concerned about the fact that the wheels only have 24 spokes, which is about half of what a normal bike has. The spokes are thicker than normal, but I think it would be pretty easy to taco the rims with rough treatment, so no riding over curbs and catching air.

Except for a few relatively minor concerns, I think this bike is an amazingly good deal and comparable to a bike costing twice as much. Just keep in mind its intended purpose. This is a hybrid/comfort bike and meant for bike trails and pavement, and maybe smooth dirt roads. It is not meant to be taken down ski runs in the summer. Yes some of my friends do that, with burly mountain bikes of course!

Edit 5/10/11
Just wanted to add that I am still very happy with this bike, although I noticed that the price has gone up. Even so, it is still a good value at the current price. I have made a few modifications that people may be interested in. I replaced the stock pedals with the highly rated "MKS Sylvan Touring Pedal Double Sided" and added "Delta Bicycle Strapless Toe clips" strapless clips. Excellent 5 star Japanese made pedals--a perfect match for this bike, and worth the cost. The Delta strapless toe clips are a little small for my size 11 shoe, but otherwise work great. I replaced the stock handlebar grips with "WTB Comfort Zone Grips" purchased at REI. Now my hands don't tingle on long rides. They appear to be similar to the inexpensive Avenir Comfy Soft grips available from Amazon. Another tip--I don't care what Schwinn or the tire company says, don't inflate the tires more than 30 lbs, unless you want to get a lot of flats. Always carry the "Park Tool TR-1 Tire and Tube Repair Kit" and a small pump like the "Topeak Masterblaster Bike Pump With Gauge". Both the patch kit and the pump are highly rated. All the add-ons are available from Amazon. Good Luck!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable ... except for the seat, October 15, 2008
By T. Lo (New York, New York)
Overall this bike is a great value. Relatively light weight for its price and easy to assemble. There is very minimal assembly needed, which means much of the bike is pre-assembled.

If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I would suggest having a shop take a look and tweak the brakes & gear shift as I found that it isn't overly ideal.

Not to mention with a new bike it is a good idea after the first month to bring it in to get the brakes adjusted (brake cables stretch).

Everything is great except for the seat. They definitely could've put a more comfortable seat on this thing, however you get what you pay for and that would have increased the pricetag on this otherwise good city bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Seat Too High!!, May 26, 2009
By Lee (Northfield, MN)
Great bike overall, but the seat height is a few inches too high for me. I have it set as low as it can go, but my feet still "dangle in the air" when I try to stop. I had it assembled at a bike shop, so I'm pretty certain I'm not overlooking something...

I'm 5'9" with short legs, and I don't advise this bike unless you have average-long legs.

Hope that helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  ok if it fits, September 15, 2009
By Caitlin Regan (chicagoland, IL United States)
I was interested in getting this bike for myself and a friend. To my surprise, there was only one size(?!?). I got it and it ended up being a little to big for me, so even when the seat is all the way down I can barely touch the pedals. I did have to take the bike to a bike shop for professional assembly, which was more expensive than I thought it would be, but it is working great. The only things I don't like about it are the weight, 31.2 lbs, and the front shock that bottoms out often. When this happens, the bike jolts up awkwardly. Oh, and the mechanic at the shop told me I would need special inner-tubes for the bike because the rims are a deep-V style, and I guess these can only be purchased at bicycle specialty stores. oh well. In ending, I am going to get a different bike for my friend that hopefully will not have the same issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I bought the Avenue, which is basically the same, August 27, 2010
By Gadget Guy (Baltimore, MD)
Amazon was out of the light grey ones, so I ended up buying the Schwinn avenue from wally world in a box and assembled it myself.

The bikes are virtually the same. I am very pleased with my purchase. For the cost, I feel that I got a solid, quality feeling bicycle.

The bike comes about 80% assembled, and all you have to do it put on the seat post and seat, install the front wheel and quick release axle, and handlebars. It took me about 20 minutes until I was riding.

I inflated the tires to 70 PSI, and haven't as of yet experienced the dreaded flat tires that people are talking about. The same store I bought the bike from has an abundance of the the tubes needed for this bike so I bought an additional two tubes just in case. I think think they are 700c, 38 x 45, with copper presta valves. The 700c is the diameter of the tube, the 38 is how many millimeters wide the tube is, and the 45 is the lenght of the valve stem or presta valve.

The seat looks like it is made well, yet is pretty uncomfortable. I replaced that with another. It helps if you adjust the horn of the seat down a little so the seat is slight declined so when you ride, that part doesn't hit your pubic bone, and cause soreness. That was your buttocks sit on the back of the seat.

The pedals are plastic junk, I replaced them with some Avenir alloy pedals with better grip, as my feet kept slipping off of those plastic platform pedals that come with it.

YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE THIS TO A BIKE SHOP AND GET IT "TUNNED". Do it yourself, it couldn't be easier to adjust everything. If you have any questions, comment on this review, and I will try to answer you quickly.

I think this is a good buy. It feels as easy to ride as my 20 year old aluminum racing fuji 10 speed I had as a kid. It is very fast, and easy to ride up the hills. The suspension helps smooth out the bumps and it is exaclty what I was looking for!

Mark :)

UPDATE AS OF 10/10/2010

I have had no issues at all with this bike since getting it. I ride it about 3 times a week on short rides each time (about 5 to 6 miles)

I haven't experience any of the flat tires I was expecting (pinch flats, I think someone said)

I have had no issues what so ever finding the intertubes in the Walmart I bought the bike from, real bike shops, or REI.

I have replaced the platic pedals with Avenir aluminum and steel pedals, put on a headlight, and tail light, put on a water bottle cage, put on a bell, speedo, and a compact air pump, and of course a comfortable Gel seat. I have been riding it without issue.

I probably have about 200 miles on it as of now. I am very pleased with this purchase.

ONE THING I DO RECOMMEND HOWEVER, IS TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK. FOR SOME REASON, THESE TUBES THAT CAME WITH THE BIKE LOOSE AIR RATHER RAPIDLY. I think this might contribute to people getting flats, because they don't recheck the airpressure and the tire gets low, and then they get the pinch flats.

Mine lost 10psi over 2 days. It didn't go flat, but it went from say 70psi to 30 psi in about 2 weeks.

Maybe the next intertubes I put in there will be better, but for now, I will just get in the habit of checking tire air pressure once per week.

UPDATE 7/21/2011. I have started riding this bike along with my wife on the NCR trail for 32 miles rides. It rides great, but the back gear set(freewheel) is starting to make a high pitched grinding noise. I ordered a 28T-13 Shimano on here sold through Niagra Cycle works for 20 dollars with shipping. We'll see how that goes.

Tool info:

1. You need the Park Tool, Item # HCW-11 adjustable cup wrench to tighten the bottom bracket bearing without taking off the crank arm.

2. If you do wish to take the crank arm off, you will need the Park tool, CCP-22 to get the crank arm off.

3. To true the well, and tighten the spokes, you will need the BLACK, Park tool, spoke wrench

4. To take off the Freewheel, you need the park tool FR1.

If you want more information about the Schwinn Hybrids, type Mark D Fellows into google, and go to my website.

Mark :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Value, November 29, 2009
By CW (Seal Beach, CA)
I purchased my Schwinn Midmoor bicycle about 8 weeks ago and have put 450 miles on it. It arrived safely, and I slapped it together and brought it to a local bike shop for a safety check (which is cheaper than a tune up or assembly). Since then, I had a friend who is a bike mechanic tune up the shifters, which makes a big difference.

I have removed the silly reflectors mounted on the front and rear spokes. I also removed the plastic front and rear sproket protectors (which make the bike look like a department store bicycle).

To make it a real commuter bike, I added a rear rack, two water bottle cages, a pump, a bell, a mirror, front and rear lights, a bike computer, an underseat bike bag (in which I store a spare tube, a repair kit and a bike multi-tool) a small pannier bag for the cross bar, a new seat, and new pedals with toe clips and straps.

I haven't added a chainguard or fenders. I have pants clips so will probably do without the chain guard. I live in Southern California and don't have to ride in the rain or snow, so I can also do without fenders.

I am just under 6' tall and weigh 205 pounds. I am very happy with my bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn Midmoor, July 19, 2008
By Razor 1998
Good product. You pay for a $200 bike, you get a $200 bike. Easy to assemble with basic hand tools. The bike is solid but relatively light. You definitely want to stick to the paved trails. Take the necessary tools with you on the first ride so you can dial in the derailers.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike !!, July 15, 2009
By Wilson (North Jersey)
I wanted a nice dureable bike just to run local chores but once I started riding this bike I found myself taking longer and longer rides. I did the 42 mile NYC bike tour on this bike. Aluminum frame makes it light weight for this type of bike. The wheels/spokes give it a distinct look. The seat could have been softer, but other than that it's a great ride. I purchased the bike in February and up to this point it has been completely trouble free. I'm glad I didn't pay the extra $150 for the Schwinn Voyager

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good value, July 16, 2010
By Rob (Maryland)
I would say that this is a very good mid-grade bike, great for recreational riding on paved and light/moderate off-road surfaces. It is light and has a quality build true to Schwinn's reputation. 30 minutes and easily assembled right out of the box. Spend the extra $75.00 and let a bike shop tune it up, to make sure all critical pieces are tightened properly, the wheels are trued, brakes are adjusted properly, and all mechanisms are lubed and synchronized- then hit the road! This bike is also a Consumer Reports Best Buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Value, but Quirky, September 2, 2010
By Slane
Overall, this bike is a really great value for the money and is definitely a step up from the bottom of the line bikes found at most of the big chain retailers. I'm 6' 2", and I can ride it quite comfortably, which is nice. It's a big bike, so it's definitely going to pose a challenge for anybody that's shorter (I would say anyone 5' 8" and below would start to have some problems.) As others have said, the pedals are plastic and terrible--order a nice set when you order the bike and save yourself some trouble. Unlike another review though, I've had absolutely no trouble with the rear cassette, and I've put about 100 miles on the bike so far. Out of the box, the derailleurs were set just right and shifted nice and smooth without any hesitation, but the brakes needed some tweaking to fix some minor issues (Some of the springs needed tightening to prevent rubbing on the wheel when released.) Wheels actually showed up pretty true, which was nice, and from the box to the street I had the bike built in less than an hour.

My only gripe, and my reason for giving the bike a four-star rating, is the really crappy SR Suntour suspension fork up front. It seems to be quite literally one of the cheapest suspension forks I've ever seen. I'm not a small guy, so when I sit down on the bike, the fork comes within about an inch of bottoming out. Usually, one could adjust the preload to compensate for a heavier rider, but the fork offers no adjustments whatsoever. That being the case, I have a feeling another couple of weeks of bumps from the lack of travel will have the fork completely shot from all of the bottoming out, which means I'll have to replace it over the winter (Probably with a rigid fork to save money and save weight--suspension forks really aren't needed on an urban bike.) Aside from that and the pedals though, the components of the bike all seem really reliable and strong.

Summary: Great hybrid bike for a commuter that doesn't want to enter the realm of boutique bikes costing twice as much from a cycle shop.
Pros: Priced Reasonably, Fairly Lightweight, Easily Assembly with Minimal Tweaking, Comfortable Ride
Cons: Plastic Pedals and Useless Suspension Fork

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Watch for sizes, August 23, 2010
By Burbank Steve (Burbank, CA)
It's a consumer digest best-buy and have lots of positive reviews. For the most part, it lives up to the accolades. Amazon has very little description of this bike and does not list the size/fitting chart (or have only 1 size). It's a big bike and too high for me (5ft 8).

So try it out at the retailers first to see if it fits you.

Very nice bike for the money. Light, smooth ride and fast. Be ready to take to a bike shop for adjustments (unless you have the knowledge as far as adjusting derailleurs, and other components goes). I put mine together in about 45 min.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  What a trip!, July 2, 2010
By More of MidMoor
I have owned this particular bike for 3 months and probably have ridden it in excess of 1000 miles on paved roads and I have been unbelievably satisfied with its smooth ride, durability, and speed. I have taken this time out to give this critique because I really appreciate the performance of this bike. Prior to purchasing it, I rode my "sidewinder" Schwinn which I also grew to really love, although it is more of a mountain bike. The derailleurs and gears on the Midmoor change very nicely without hardly a click. Yes, in agreement with the other commentators, it would be better to be at least 5'9", although I believe shorter riders could still touch the pavement with the front part of their feet and balance this bicycle.

I ordered this bicycle on line and it comes almost assembled. After assembling it myself, with little difficulty, I did hear a scraping noise by the chain rubbing against the guide. I took it in to my local bike shop and had them professionally "tune up the derailleurs" and brakes for a minimal amount. It was like tuning up my Classic Mustang and it really hauled. The problem causing the rub is that the derailler came from the factory a bit low on the frame and caused the chain to rub against the metal guide. It was a minor adjustment and a person unfamiliar with bikes really needs to make absolutely sure that the brakes are adjusted properly, especially if you ride fast like I do. I have been able to outrun many mean dogs on this bicycle out in the country, but would not recommend you have this type of encounter. Best of Luck to you bicyle enthusiasts. You are in for a real treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike for the money, May 13, 2010
By Nosferatu (SRQ FL)
For the money this is great bike , please don't expect that all the parts on the bike will be top quality parts. You probably will have to spent $40 to upgrade few things. first one will be to get some quality pedals , the ones that comes with the bike are plastic. also i didn't like the way the handlebar was curved so i end up replacing that , total coast under $40. bike requires some adjustment, like breaks and wheels if you not sure how to do it have a bike shop do it for you. overall this is great bike for the money .
For those of you looking for some specs. on the bike frame is 17.5 and 700cc (28inch)wheels

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice features, great price, October 11, 2009
By A. Campbell
I am very happy with the bike. Fairly simple to assemble provided you know at least something about bikes and have the correct tools. Open end wrench and allen wrenches basically. My only complaint is that the handlebars don't feel right no matter how I adjust them... width feels too small. Will be ordering bigger handle bars but for the money this item is well worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent, February 28, 2010
By Colby Tse
I bought this Hybrid for myself a few weeks ago and I must say I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The box it came in (was rather large) had all of the parts separated and organized well. It only took me about 2 hours to put the whole thing together and some parts came pre-assembled. (tubing, half part of the handle bars, exc) This bike is very fast and gets me in and out of classes with time to spare. It's a bike, it does what it's supposed to. It is very sturdy and the brakes work well. It has a very nice smooth and laid back feel to it and has been reliable.

The only thing I'd recommend adding is a rear bike rack for those rainy days to stop the water from drenching your back. (about 20-40 bucks for one) I added one and had a little bit of trouble putting it on; there's no place to screw it in under the seat so i had to screw in the rack securely with the screws on the brakes. it works well and is sturdy enough to hold about 40 lbs of books on it+ my laptop but just a heads up before you buy a rack.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good so far, July 26, 2010
By Steve Hernandez (utah, USA)
I got my bike almost a week ago now. I've put minimum 6 miles a day on it. The only problem I have encountered is shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It either has a hard time getting to 3rd or doesn't make it at all. For me it's just a matter of getting a tune up done on it. Since I don't know the first thing about adjusting the re-railer?

Putting the bike together was a breeze, I thought it was going to be a two beer project, it turned into a half a beer. I continued on to the 2nd beer just because it was soooo easy to put the bike together i still had time to waste. HAHAHAHA

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Disappointed, January 1, 2011
By nosirrah (nosirrah)
I received the bike and had trouble finishing the final assembly of the upper fork into the bike frame. I noticed that the upper fork tube was not oval and was not fitting properly. I called Schwinn and explained to them the problem and they advised me that the upper part of the front forks should be oval. I couldn't believe they shipped it to me in this defected condition. In all fairness it may have happened in shipment, but the outside box did not look damaged. Shhwinn was very pleasant sent me a new fork after I gave them all the bike numbers. The forks were different than mine but did work. I'm not sure if it is an older design they had left over or a newer version...or just the wrong version from another bike model,(I have been unable to contact them because of the holidays). In any event I took the bike to a bike shop to make sure the bike was safe to ride. The bike shop pointed out a freyed shifter cable upon my arrival. I will get my bike back on Monday and I hope to update this sad saga then.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Hybrid-it is just that, March 8, 2011
By grafixkat21
I used to ride my dad's old Schwinn street bike, but when I moved out I purchased a cheap $99 Mongoose mountain bike at Walmart because it was all I could afford. I figured it would be great for trail riding which I could not do on a street bike. It was a 26" model which at the time was the largest size they had. What I failed to know was simply how terrible it would be for riding through the neighborhood streets. I couldn't get any speed or coasting ability with the shortened frame, and the seat wouldn't go high enough for me to extend my legs so it felt like riding my little cousin's BMX bike. I just hated riding it, and it has pretty much collected dust, so I made the effort to do some research on hybrid bikes-with the narrower tires and suspension in the front. My budget was only $250 which is very limiting in the bike world, and I was not prepared for all the different sizing charts between companies-26", 28", 700, 15, 17, 19...

I leaned towards the Midmoor due to it's customer reviews, though I was concerned that by buying another 26" bike I would be in the same position as before. However upon reading reviews I noticed several had said that the bike in fact was quite tall and not really for someone under 5'9" or so. I am 5'8"-5'9" so I chose it over a similar 28" Schwinn at Target. I was also paranoid that by saving money having it shipped to me that it would get damaged in delivery. There was a very minor bang on the box and I could see where it had rubbed the tire, but overall it was fine. Putting together was a breeze, and I'm not mechanically inclined. The only thing I've had trouble with are the brakes getting properly set, and though I should probably have done like many others on here and taken it to a bike shop, I'll tweek it on my own.

I can say the bike seems huge compared to my 26" mountain bike and I can easily adjust the seat high enough to straighten my legs out. It in no way allows me to build the speed or coast like I could on my dad's old street bike, but is light years better compared to the mountain bike experience. Works fine for the road and is able to withstand the bumps of going through the grass and whatnot when cars come along. I wouldn't go off road heavy duty, but overall so far I think I will get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike for the Casual Rider, September 2, 2010
By Steve (HOLDEN, MA, United States)
My fiancee and I go for bike rides most days after work, somewhere between 5-15 miles. This is the bike that I take on these rides, and it has been great so far. I'm going to break down my experience in a few different areas:

Setup: Pretty easy as far as bikes go, although it will likely be tougher than you think if you've never put one together before. If this process intimidates you at all, it may make sense to bring it to a bike shop for setup. I was able to put it together with only a few missteps and tough sections.

Construction: I am not a bike expert, but once put together this bike seems solid. Shifting is easy and smooth and the brakes are responsive and easily adjustable. I was able to mount two different waterbottles on the frame without any real difficulty.

Ride: This bike has been great so far, and this bike is very fast! The shocks help to provide a smooth ride, and the bike handles well going up and down hills. No real complaints here, I've been very satisfied. The only thing I would mention is that the seat is not very comfortable at all, but I've never really had a bike with a comfortable seat.

Overall: I'm definitely happy with this bike purchase, it's been great for our casual cycling. If you're looking for a bike for casual after-work rides, or maybe longer ones on the weekend - then you will probably not be disappointed with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Hybrid Bike in its Price Range, August 5, 2010
By Weili Cheng
This bike is just what I was looking for. I was looking for a bike that could speed on the roads while at the same time handle dirt roads. This bike handled both of these aspects perfectly and its FAST. But its also really big so if you're going fast you'll make huge turns. I built this bike in an hour and will post later about how it performs long term.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good bike, but assembly is a hustle., May 6, 2010

The bike is fine, though takes some getting used to if switch from mountain bike. It felt flimsy & insecure at first. Assembly is not difficult, but instructions are useless. It took me several hours, & I've been using & fixing bikes for 23 years.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Priced Great, October 15, 2010
By loomijj (Bowling Green, OH)
The bike is a very good upgrade from the cheap bikes you would find in someplace like walmart. The only real downside is the brakes, but that's an easy fix. Overall very happy with it. If your looking for a road bike, look elsewhere, but if you want a bike to say, get you to and from class, and take it on the occasional bike trail, then this bike will suffice.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn Midmoor, September 1, 2010
By Phil (Houston, Tx)
I needed to rehab a foot injury and decided to spend $ on a bike instead of a rehab center. I was not willing to spend a thousand plus on a bicycle. I had Schwinns as a Kid and so checked this one out. It also was a Consumer's Report best buy. As with others that made a review on the bike, getting the gears to adjust for proper shifting requires a little patience, but that is all. Love the bike. Ride is great. It is light weight. Wife wants one, so another is in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a good bike., April 10, 2011
By GreenMushy
I have had this bike for more then a month now so I figured it was time to share review of it.
So far, I really like it. It is very fast and light and fits me fine. I'm 5' 10'', 170 and everything seems to be the appropriate height for my size. I have never put a bike together before, and I was able to get everything together even though the directions were no help whatsoever. As other people have stated in reviews, the pedals do appear to be made of children's plastic, but I don't think anybody really notices, and the handlebars have a strange rounded orientation that I'm not a fan of. I didn't have to do any altering of derailleurs or take it to any shop. It shifts gears correctly right out of the box, but I did have to increase the rear brake-line tension. I ride nearly every day to school or to do errands and it has been 10times better then the cheap mountain bike I had before. I'm happy with the purchase. I only gave it 4 stars because of the plastic pedals, my subjective distaste for the shape of the handlebars, and it's slightly high cost(it was $235 when i bought it).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A Good, Big, Bicycle, March 13, 2011
By Hank
I have been riding my new Midmoor for a couble of weeks, now. I do not know how many times I had read that it was a 26" bike, but in reality it is more like a 28" bicycle. In order for my leg to be nearly straight on the down stroke of the peddle (I am 5'10" tall), I would have to jack the seat up to a very unnatural height. So, I have decided not to worry about the position of my legs on the down stroke and to set the seat at a level where I can get on it. The bicycle is definitly made for a bigger man than I.

Putting the bicycle together wasn't too difficult. The major problem with assembly is the owner's manual. It is a generic manual that covers, primarily most of the mountain bikes and the road bikes made by Schwinn. In all cases, it couldn't even relate the correct sizes of the various nuts and bolts of the Midmoor that must be adjusted. One would think that a company such as schwinn could extend its quality assurance protocols to the owner manuals that accompany their excellent bicycles.

Shipping was not a problem. I received my bike with no damage. I did have some concern when I examined the box in which it was shipped as the axle of the front wheel had punched through the box, but there appears to be no damage.

I bought this because it was a consumer reports best buy. It arrived in a box, with free shipping. I assembled it right in my living room after going to Walmart and buying a bicycle tool set. I watched a you tube video on how to assemble a bicycle and had it together in no time. Rides very smooth and is comfortable. I hope to enjoy this for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn Midmoor bicycle, November 23, 2010
By ducky
Took the bike out of the box, put on the peddles and front wheel, and rode away. The gears are perfect and the feel of the bike is really nice. This is a Consumer Report Best Buy and is, indeed, a best buy. compares with bikes I have ridden at 2x the price. Could not find it anywhere but Amazon - apparently Schwinn isn't making the model or/and has repackaged it with another model at a higher price.
Nonetheless, I really like this bike and feel I got a great deal.

Decent bike, but needs a lot of set-up and adjustments. I recommend that you either buy it from a local bike shop that can correctly set it up or find a shop that will professionally set it up after you get it.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Major assembly issues, October 6, 2011
By Trying2Commute
Bike arrived super fast. Box was undamaged. All pieces look present and accounted for.

Instructions are a disaster. As other reviewers noted, your best bet is your own knowledge on bikes. I know the tire goes in the front and it attaches to these screws, which look nothing like the ones in the instruction manual. I know the handlebar goes in the front but the instructions show 4 different types of handlebars in French, spanish and Japanese. Not helpful. There are literally 6 different pieces of paper with instructions on them printed both sides with diagrams and words but most of the detail is on maintenance for pre-installed parts. Perhaps a half a page on installing the bike itself. NIGHTMARE. but that's not even my problem. I already knew where the major pieces go.

My problem was when I went to install the front tire to the fork, I couldn't get the bolts off the tire. I finally managed to get one of them off and the other is so tight it might as well be welded on. But that's not even the real issue. The axle screw is TOO SHORT for the width of the fork. The only possible way was if I let the fork rests on the very end of the screw beyond the bolts resting on the threads. Am I SUPPOSED to ride on the threads? Is there supposed to be no exterior bolt to hold my tire on my bike? Something seems majorly wrong.

To make matters worse in the several hours I was trying to make this work, mini ball bearings inside the wheel axle are falling off of the interior of the wheel while I'm trying to make it worse. There were 20 bearings, I already lost one cause it doesn't FIT!. TO make matters worse none of the bicycle washers mentioned in the instructions even exist or would fit where they tell me to place them relative to the fork. Hours later, I think I finally realized this "simple instal" is anything but. I need to call Schwin and let them tell me what my problem is. I envy all those who said they were done in 15 minutes. Perhaps they shoudl have sent me the quick release style cause the bolt-action is BROKE.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid Bike with some Drawbacks, July 15, 2011
By scotwlcx
I have had the Schwinn Midmoor for about 1 month now and have ridden it approximately 50 miles. Out of the box, the bike is fairly easy to assemble. I had to make one call to the Schwinn Customer Service while assembling the bike. They were very helpful. Im just going to split my review into pros and cons.

Pros: Affordable, Good bike for larger riders(Im 6'3"/200), Fast, Well Constructed, Light, Good for road riding, Comfortable seat, Good Gear Shifters and Brakes.

Cons: NO Fork suspension adjustment(I may purchase a rigid fork soon), The back hub was overtightened from the factory, Seat moves a bit, May require a safety isnspection from your local bike shop after assembling

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Bike, Great Value (Black), July 4, 2011
By Nolan Alston (Birmingham, AL USA)
The bike is a great value. The ride is smooth. I don't know the frame size. My inseam is 30 and the frame is to high to comfortably stand up straight. I just lean the bike a little and problem solved.

There are a few things I would like to point out:

Installation was quick. The installation manual is for all the models, but it gives you the general idea of how to put it together.

Other reviewers mentioned having to replace the petals. I have this to be true for me too. I was 10 mins into my first ride when the left pedal bearing failed. I replaced the stock petals with Avenir Alloy Pedals, Silver , 9/16 Inch Axle. So far, they are performing very well. They also have a better grip on shoes than the stock ones.

My derailers needed adjustment before riding. They ship a front and rear derailer installation manual with the bike. If your going to adjustment them yourself, I sugguest you read over the front, rear and the bike manual over before adjusting. Neither one is clear to a newbie, but in combination it makes more sense.

The only other thing I had to do was adjust the brakes. They were a piece of cake to adjust.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Upgrade, June 30, 2011
By Just Bill (Frederick, MD)
I'm not a guy who knows every little thing about bikes and rides all the time. I rode a lot as a kid, and I've had a mountain bike that I hadn't taken out of storage for about six years before the bicycling bug bit me recently. I spent plenty of time on the mountain bike before deciding that I was definitely into riding now and started thinking about a new bike. I wanted something a bit faster on the street but still capable of riding around the back yard or over light trails. This bike fits the bill perfectly.

My mountain bike is a Pacific Python that I purchased from Toys R Us for something like $99 in the early nineties. Serious bike riders will sneer at this low dollar box store bike, but it served me well until I let it sit ignored in a shed for six years, now it has trouble shifting but is still ride-able. I only mention this so readers of this review can know how to judge my opinions on the new schwinn.

First of all, it is definitely a fast bike by comparison. It's much easier getting up to speed and I love the shifters... very easy to quickly cycle through to whatever gear suits you. I'm not sure about the front fork suspension just yet - never had a bike with that before and it feels a little weird to me at first, but I'm getting used to it. I like the suspension in the seat however. The derailleurs could use some adjusting to really make it perfect, but they were satisfactory right out of the box. The seat is a little tough to sit on for long term, but that was the case with the mountain bike too, nothing a gel seat cover won't fix. I wish the handle bars were a bit more adjustable and my personal preference would be for them to be even more straight bar than they are, but neither are really a big issue. As another review said, the pedals do seem pretty cheap compared to the rest of the bike, so that will probably be something I upgrade later. My final issue with the bike is the placement of the screws for accessories. They sort of face each other on the inside of the frame and it's rather tight to get both of my bottle holders in there. (The mountain bike had them over and under each other making it easy to carry two bottles.) Again, not a big issue, I'm just settling for one bottle holder.

As far as shipping condition and assembly - With Amazon Prime it actually came a day sooner than expected, which was a nice surprise. The bike arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. I did have a couple of issues with the assembly instructions as it wasn't model specific and this was the first bike I ever assembled. Still, I got through it in about an hour taking my time to make sure I was getting it right, and I was off for a test ride shortly thereafter. Going from the big fat mountain bike tires to these thin ones, I was concerned about how they would handle off road and with my weight (I'm 211 lbs) but those concerns were unwarranted as both the bike and the tires had no issues at all. Now, I'm only a few days into the bike, but I see nothing that will cause me problems or issues so far. I'll come back and update this review should anything ever happen.

Overall, it's a sleek, good looking bike. It's fast on the road, nice off road on trails and grass, and definitely a good buy for someone looking for a nice bike without breaking the bank.

**** July 26, 2011 Edit**** - I have been loving this bike, BUT I had a very disappointing camping trip recently where I was all excited to go riding at a beautiful state park. I made it exactly three feet and the front tire blew. And when I say front tire, I don't just mean the tube - I mean the whole freakin' tire. A hole blew out of the side of the tire from the force of the tube blowing. When I got it to a bike shop for a replacement, they told me that the tires were really not that great and fairly cheap - but what caused the forceful blow-out in the first place was a loose piece of aluminum within the wheel that punctured the tire. This was something that clearly had been there from the manufacture of the bicycle and it was just a matter of time before this happened. I was lucky that it lasted as long as it did and that it didn't happen when I was flying down a massive hill or something.

So I wound up replacing BOTH tires to better quality tires... adding about $75 to the cost of the bike. I still love the bike, but I think you should keep the potential additional expense of better tires in mind when thinking about this bike.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  It looked good on paper, June 6, 2011
By scott burbank
I have owned the bike for 3 months and I must say I am disappointed. I did a lot of research into different hybrid bikes and I thought this bike looked like a good choice: good reviews, reasonable price, and made by Schwinn. Less than two weeks after buying the bike, the rear cassette came loose and fell off, leaving bearings scattered along the bike path: 35$ fix. Last week, my front tire went flat. The tube tore along the seam next to the rims: another manufacturing defect. Because the tube stems are longer than standard stems, my local bike store doesn't carry the tubes in stock, and had to special order them.
Conclusion: I like riding the bike, but I wasn't expecting it to fail twice within the first three months. Be aware the tubes are not standard for even a local bike shop.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cruising Bike, November 2, 2010
By Satisfied Customer
If it were not for the great customer service that I received, I would have given this review one less star. The bike arrived with some minor damage and the customer service response was great. They offered to replace the bike at no charge to me (including return shipping). The damage was so minor, I just accepted replacement parts and fixed it myself. I didn't want to bother with boxing this thing back up. Their response to my problem was quick and they seemed genuinely concerned. Overall the bike is decent quality. I didn't pay top dollar for this bike, but still feel like I got more bike than I paid for. I just bought this bike for cruising around the neighborhood, with the dog, on paved roads. Anything other than that, might be beyond the bike's abilities (not made for trails even though they call it a hybrid). I also think it would be a good commuter bike. There is some assembly required, but nothing too crazy. If you have put together furniture before, then you can do this no problem. FYI: I am 6'1" and 225lbs. So far, this bike handles my size and weight with ease.

If you want/need an excellent bike for normal riding than this purchase will make you feel great. The bike comes in a box in 3 pieces. Its extremely easy if you have some amature skills with bikes. Had the bike riding out of the box in 1 hour, it works flawlessly. Its the best bike for the least amount of money
I ever had, and the best bike also. I am astounded that its performance matches bikes twice its price. It looks like an expensive well built strong bike...Schwinn is a good brand name, try it you will love this one!

We were looking for a bike for our grandson, but were not prepared to spend what we had on our own hybrids. As a child I had owned a Schwinn, but I had no idea if it was still a good bike. I was encouraged by its ratings, both here and elsewhere. It arrived in good shape and was surprisingly easy to assemble. Once assembled, it is a very good looking bicycle.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Initial Review of New Schwinn Midmoor Hybrid Bike (men's), October 15, 2010
By I Love Latin Music! (Tampa, Florida, USA)
Bike arrived yesterday: Initial task was to remove it from its shipping carton and tear-up carton for recycling. Today, I was going to assemble the remaining parts...beginning with the front tire inflation. However, the stem leaked --as I had read some Schwinn models apparently ALWAYS do. I'd hoped the problem had been corrected---WRONG! Whatever is "wrong" with the front stem/tube, is undoubtedly wrong with the rear stem/tube; I've decided to take it to a local shop to have the tubes and stems replaced with something which works. (I hope there's no problem with the bike shop having tubes/stems which work with these wheels.)

The rest of the assembly will have to wait. I will update this review in due time....

1. It gives a pleasant ride. I am in my fifties and moderately active for my age. This bicycle is EFFORTLESS to ride several miles around my neighborhood. The gears work well. The brakes are smooth. The gears and brakes are better than other inexpensive bicycles I have owned. I use it to go to the store, restaurants, for outings, etc. I have not ridden this bike off-road so I cannot comment on its performance there.
2. The price is great. Watch for sales and you can purchase this bike for less than $250.
3. This bike fits my body better than ANY other bike I have ridden. I am 5'7". The bike looks big - but is a good size for an average sized person. My son is 5'10" and he is also very happy with the sizing. It is a more European sizing - I always find the sizing recommended for me in the US to be too small.
4. It is relativity study. My son has had several falls on his bike and while he is scraped up (even with lasting gear imprints on his leg) the bike is unscathed.
5. It was EASY to put together - maybe 15-20 minutes.

Here are the downsides.
1. It is a bit heavy. But you can probably see that by looking at the picture.
2. The inner tubes require unusually long stems - you will have to jury rig an off-the-rack inner tube purchase. We have done it but for the future I will just order several spare inner tubes from Schwinn.
3. The seat comfort is only fair. Eventually I will probably buy another seat for more comfort. (Again, I am in my fifties)

To sum up, I highly recommend this bicycle. It is comfortable, sturdy, inexpensive. Overall, a great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome Bike!, August 24, 2011
By Allan Limbo (California, USA)
Pros:
1)Easy to assemble with the proper tools.
2)This Schwinn bike is very fast for a hybrid. I found myself catching up to other bikers in the streets who pass me by.
3)It doesn't weigh much at all! I'm able to lift it up with ease.
4)I recently was bumped by another biker on the streets & basically nothing on the bike was damaged. It's durable.
5)This was an inexpensive purchase.

Cons:
1)Before & after I installed my front & rear lights on the bike, I started hearing a clicking sound coming out of the pedal and/or gears of the bike. This occurs sometimes, but I can live with it. Though, it is somewhat annoying to hear the clicking. It can be adjusted though.
2)There are times when I try to shift gears & the chain takes a while to hook to the desired gear. I think this can be easily adjusted too.

Overall, awesome bike. I ride this back and forth around my city with no real problems. There are little adjustments needed on it & can be fixed easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  The price is volatile so shop carefully, October 11, 2011
By John B. Kendrick III (Sheridan, WY)
I just ordered my bike this morning so I have nothing to say about quality. This review is a warning to shoppers that the price on this bike is very volatile. There seem to be about 4 Amazon vendors plus Amazon themselves that are in hot and heavy competition. When I first looked at this item yesterday morning, the price was at $256 (I'm going to round). I decided to try looking at Sears and Kmart who also carry this model and they were more expensive. When I returned to the Amazon site the price had jumped to about $353 almost $100 in 15 minutes. At first I thought I was looking at a different item. A few hours later I looked at the price had dropped to $349. I looked a few more times during the day and by the time I went to bed the price had dropped to $330. When I got up this morning the price had fallen to $249 and I went ahead and bought it. I'm going to be upset though if I look again and see it significantly cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike, February 4, 2012
By Ish
I've had this bike for about 7 months now so I qualify to write a review on here. It is a great bike, really fast, not as fast as those professional bikes I see on the streets everyday but that's why we pay a lot less. Assembling the bike was fairly easy but I did go to bike shop around my way to get it tuned up properly, it was worth the $50. I still haven't had a problem with this bike. For those wondering if the bike is too small, no it's not, it really high, I'm 6"2, 210 pounds and it fits and supports my weight pretty well and I can still extend the sit if I wanted to, I'm guessing you can still use it if you are 6"6. By the way I've lost 16 pounds biking already commuting to work everyday. Don't let the winter stop you, layer up and get out there, 5 minutes riding, you will feel warmer than all those guys in their cars. I can't say anything negative about this bike but i'm not an expert, for 7 months straight, i've been biking to work and go to central park (NY) on week-ends and ride with some buddies, never had a problem, fast and beautiful bike for a great price and it's on par with those more expensive bikes you see out there. If you really want a bike, stop finding reasons not to get one, this one can be a nice first bike for anyone to ride, it's fun, it's good for you and the environment , and save money in the long run. Best decision I've made in a long time for sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good commuter bike for the price, August 9, 2011
By O. orhan (WA, USA)
I owned this bike for over a year now, I have to admit I do not bike that often but this bike served me when I needed. It costs like a second hand bike but does rides like a new. It has some shaky parts and you will need to tighten the screws every now and again, no problem.
This is a hybrid bike and definitely not for the dirt road, don't think you can ride it in trails you will most likely won't. Get a mountain bike for that purpose, this one is great and fast for the paved road.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Crank Broke After 3 Months of Use., August 1, 2011
By okaysamurai (San Francisco, CA)
I bought this bike for a 6-mile round trip daily commute to a local train station. For the first three months, it served its purpose extremely well...until the supposedly solid steel crank snapped off one day mid-ride, leaving me with just one arm and pedal. When I took it into the bike shop to repair, the mechanic called it a "department store bike," made up of a collection of the cheapest materials in order to reach a low price point. He is currently replacing the crank with a higher quality part (also by Schwinn, just higher grade), and I'm hopeful things will run better now. To their credit, Schwinn's warranty department was helpful and did ship me a new crank set within 2 weeks of calling. Still, if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely pay an extra $100-$200 for something higher quality to begin with.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  well satisfied so far, July 30, 2011
By gtbking
Bike arrived undamaged and well packaged. The instructions are a little confusing as there are multiple models contained in them but got the bike together in an hour or so. Have not ridden it a lot as yet as it so hot here right now but it handled well and gears shifted fine without adjustment. Replaced the seat with one more padded but that is just my preference. The pedals do look a little flimsy so time will tell if they hold up.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike for average rider, July 29, 2011
By Joe
I got this bike after researching a lot online for hybrid bikes in the $300 range. I do not ride 1000 miles a year, so I did not feel I needed to spend the money for a premium level bike, but I wanted to stay away from the cheap bikes too. I ordered this bike and had it set up in about 45 minutes. I find it a lot of fun and easy to ride, and have put on about 60 miles in the first month with no problems at all. I do keep a close eye on the tire pressure and it will drop from 70 psi to 55 psi in about 20 miles. This is a light bike compared to what I was used to, and is fast to ride. I'm 5'9 and it is just about perfect for me, if it was any larger it would be too big. I'm very satisfied and the bike arrived well packed and shipped to my house very quickly. I feel the negative reviews are mostly from serious riders that are used to high dollar bikes. For the average rider I recommend this bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice bike, July 26, 2011
By Martin Couture
My previous bike was a 15 years old mountain buike from CCM. Switched to the Schwinn Midmoor his year because I'm no longer doing rough ride. It's a very nice bike. Was easy to assemble, almost nothing to do.

I like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike, But Get The Mens not the Womens, July 26, 2011
By John Mccomas (Milford, MI)
Bought both a Mens and Womens for my wife and me. I chose the Schwinn Midmoor because of a best buy rating by Consumers Report. They are nice bikes for the money - nice ride, comfortable seats, gears change easily. However, there is no place on the womens version to accommodate a water bottle. The mens version has mounting on both the seat stay and the down tube. Another problem with any womens bike is that they are difficult to mount on a bike rack. I had to order a temporary top tube to make it work. Most women these days ride the mens' version anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Assembly Process, July 23, 2011
By toolingted400
Fast shipping from amason no problem there. The bike came well packed in the box ,no damage. I did exstensive research on the product and the feed back was true . Before inflating the tires dismount them and deburr the wheels , a absolute must to prevent flats. Grease all bearings The wheels where to tight. No fasteners in the front brakes.Loose crank.Cheap pedals. Uncomfortable seat.

Now for the good , fast bike, nice shifting, smooth ride ,cool wheels ,good brakes, good tires, good derailers, well made, at $325 it looks like a bike that costs 2 to 3 times more. With any bike You will have to fiddle with it . I am coming off of a Trek 930 that was 11 to 14 years old and wanted something new. This bike flys I am 5'11 ,29" inseam and 235 lbs the stand over is just right about 1 inch. I can bottom the forks out if I bounce on them but normal riding it will be just fine. Seatpost works good.
I am very satisfied and I will update at 500 miles, Have Fun, Ted

4.0 out of 5 stars.  GOOD BIKE - for the price, July 15, 2011
By WHATEVER PEN NAME
This seems to be a nice bike especially for the price i paid. BUT I took it to a schwinn dealer to have it tune up and make sure it was put together properly. I'm glad i did. There were a lot of adjustments need. This can make a big difference in how the bike handles and wear. so I STRONGLY recommend this be done. I recommend this bike for the avg person. who doesn't want to spend a fortune on a bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and Beautiful Bike, July 13, 2011
By Sean
This is the Bike that I was looking for. I'm not professional bike rider and just started biking after long time. Its size and appearance is good. Its setup procedure is really easy ,but I did'nt know that there is a little screw that is covered by a black plastic on top of handle bar's axis , so I had a bit problem to setup the handle bar for first few minutes till I figured out . I was looking for something between mountain and road bike and this is exactly what I wanted. As others said I think I need to change its pedals and maybe the saddle. By the way its front wheel keeps getting flat and I think this is my fault ,cause I rode it for 20 miles at first day whit low pressure .

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Urban Bike, July 8, 2011
By OregonBay (Oregon, USA)
Well, if you are looking at this bike, it's a cinch you are not looking to ride the tour de france with it, but it's a nice bike for riding paved trails and riding to and around town with. I use mine for commuting and exercise, trips to the store and to the beach are a breeze with it. After looking at the bikes available at a local bike shop, and comparing them to this bike, I realized this bike has some better components at about half the asking price of similar name brand bikes. I didn't buy this off Amazon, I bought it at a local retailer so mine was pre-assembled. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:

Pros
--------------
Price - This one costed me $250ish fully assembled, I compared it with 'starter' Trek bikes and they all were in the $500 price range.

Components - It (of course) has mostly Schwinn components, which are high quality. A Shimano drive train/shifter system, 700c wheels, brake systems seem to be quite good.

Quality - It's a Schwinn, one of the best names in the business. And they are not "afraid" to list this as one of their this years lineup of bikes (it's on their website). I've noticed that when manufacturers make a low end bike for retailers, they will throw their name on it, but will not list it as one of their bikes due to low quality. Such is not the case with this bike, which says to me they have manufactured it to their quality standards.

Appearance - This bike looks good. Better than the low end Treks I looked at. You, or at least the bike, will look good cruising around.

Cons
------------
Pedals - These are cheap, and cheap looking. They were the first thing I changed, mostly due to appearance, but I should think they wouldn't have lasted very long since they are plastic.

Seat - Not as comfortable as some people might like. I found that adjusting the seat tip up a few notches from horizontal made the seat quite comfortable and I am happy with it.

Shifting system/Derailers - While it's Shimano, it's probably the bottom of their line. I've adjusted it extensively and it shifts pretty fluid with the exception of the rear gears. When I try to shift from 1 to 2 it will not, I have to shift from 1 to 3 and then back to 2. This is not a major issue for me as all the other gears shift smoothly, and might be an issue with the freewheel vs. the derailer, I might get the freewheel replaced sometime, but for now I'm pretty happy.

Overall
--------------------
It's a good bike for paved and hard dirt trails, around town, and road riding. Gravel and sand of course don't play well with any road bike due to the tires.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  schwinn midmoor, January 11, 2011
By les
received my schwinn midmoor two days ago and it took me almost an hour to it togather (was a no brainer. i did not have to adjust anything but the handle bars and seat to fit my height. however there is a problem with the 2-4 gear ratio not seating properly. i will bring it to my local bike shop and have them check to make sure everything is torqued just right ( all the nuts and bolts) and have them tune it properly. information i read about regarding tire pressure and the tires not going flat makes a lot of sense. I will ride the bike for another three weeke to make sure there is nothing else wrong or needs adjusting, then i'll bring it in for the tune up and adjustments,

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn Bicycle, May 16, 2011
By David K. Bosworth
Obtaining the bicycle is my attempt to turn back the hands of time and become more athletic at age 69. I tenant of my house was helpful in assembling the bicycle and I appreciated his doing this. I have ridden the bicycle in the parking area in my development but plan to do many practice rides in this same area before using public streets. This bicycle has more speeds and features than any bicycle I've ridden previously. I believe the last time I rode a bicycle was when I vacationed on Cape Cod around 1980, when I was 38 years old. I felt much more confident on my bicycle at that time than now. I will purchase knee and elbow pads before using the bicycle, but hope to regain the confidence I had 31 years ago on my new bicycle.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It's a Good Bike!, October 5, 2011
By kumatae (seattle, wa)
I put together my wife's schwinn trailway that we bought brand new on craigslist. I got done in about 30 min and everything was working perfectly. Flash forward one week later when I get my Midmoor. I put it together as I did with my wife's Trailway and for whatever reason, gears aren't switching the way they should be. I follow instructions on youtube and everything else but no luck. I finally give up and take it to a bike shop. Bike shop took 30min fixing the gears and tightening the brakes as well. It cost me $20 but well worth it. The bike itself performs flawlessly. Can get on the road at 15mph with ease. Can't keep up with them road bikes but it still rides very smooth. Makes the bike worth every bit. I ride it often and haven't seen any issues yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike!, October 4, 2011
By Tom (Nebraska)
I wanted a bike that would fit me. The cheap 26" models at Wal-Mart were just too small. I'm 6' 230 lbs, and the Midmoor fits me well, shifts easily, looks great, shipped fast and would highly recommend for novice riders like myself.

I bought this bicycle originally to traverse the somewhat un-wieldy terrain of the Hudson river. However, after trying it out once it seems to have disappeared. Not only did it not seem to float on water, but it seemed to not work in water altogether. I plan on contacting customer service as soon as possible, so as to get this problem fixed, and hopefully they will help me retrieve my bicycle. Besides this the bicycle is rather flashy, and was a quite comfortable ride. Its speed while on land was decent, but its performance in water was enough to bring the rating of this item down to three stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fun Bike - Small Price, December 3, 2011
By Ben M. Deascentis (Camarillo,CA)
Bought this bike 1 month ago. When bike arrived, there were 2 gaping holes in the side of the carton. Appeared to have been made with a fork lift. The driver and myself opened the carton to check for damage. Everything appeared OK. I had him make a digital note of the carton damage into his hand held. The bike assembly went smooth. I took it out for a test run and halfway down the street, I heard a metallic clicking noise coming from the front wheel. pulled the wheel off and found 2 spokes torn out from the nipples. I bought some spokes & nipples & did the fix myself. Installed the front wheel & spun it to check for true. The wheel was bent & had a obvious wobble. called customer service & they shipped a new bike 2 days later. Instead of assembling another bike, I switched out the wheels and shipped the 2nd bike back. I have ridden the bike for about 100 miles, it is fast and comfortable. Added a bottle cage, tail bag, & a hi-vis
rear flasher. This bike rides like some $1000.00 + bikes I have ridden. Time will tell if it stays together. I really enjoy the upright stance of the bars. Now I can see the roses, as well as smell them. I recommend putting tire liners &
thorn resistant tubes to prevent flats. When the wind blows here, the Goat Horns seem to gather near & around the edge of our roads. I did the liner & tube switch, and after returning from a 30 miler, I pulled 14 of them buggers from both tires without a single flat. Hats off to customer service for taking care of my affair with the damaged delivery.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very good bike, November 28, 2011
By Steve Swanson (Solebury, PA)
Purchased as a gift for my 80yr old father, based on the thumbs-up given by Consumer Reports. Glad I did. Bike arrived in a very timely fashion & was very well packaged. Easy assembly too.

As an owner of a very high end road bike, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, and especially the ride of this bike! Known in some circles as a "comfort" bike, it sure lives up to that name. Extremely comfortable & easy to ride. Made me a little jealous, as I think my body would prefer this bike over my Madone for the long rides! And most importantly-my Dad loves it too. Kudos Schwinn!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  poor quality bike - good warranty, November 19, 2011
By Carlos Alonso Zamora Quesada
UPDATE

I received a new replacement bike from Pacific Cycle, the customer service was great and with just a few emails they were able to get me a replacement for my broken bike. I am very pleased with their service.

----------
I had a bike that was very cheap and after five years of use I decided to pay double the price for something better, so I bought this bike on april 2010 and have used at least once a month for 2 or 3 miles every time until a couple of months ago the derailleur suddenly popped out of the frame. It was not a lack of maintenance because every time before my ride I when through the process of oil the chain, check the breaks, tire pressure and the whole thing to make sure I was going to have a safe and fun ride.

At first I thought that it would be a matter of just replace the derailleur and be done but I took it to a local bike shop yesterday and looks like the piece that broke was part of the frame that keep the derailleur attached to the frame and now the whole frame needs to be replaced or repaired and the fix doesn't guarantee that it wouldn't break again. I'm very disappointed with the product. I'm going to call the number on the owner's manual to ask for the warranty and see what do they have to say about it. I will post an update when I know more.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy assembly, November 16, 2011
By World Wide Will
I'm not a "handy man" at all, so I was a little worried when I ordered this bike knowing there would be SOME assembly required. Literally I needed to attached the handle bar, peddles, seat, and front tire to the frame. IT WAS EASY! I took it to a bike shop to do a "tune up" just to check my work and ensure I wouldn't fall horribly on my way to/from work. They bike tune-up was $65 - worth it. I priced a similar bike at REI and they wanted to charge me $1400! I'm extremely satisfied with my bike from Amazon! I've had my bike for two weeks now with with no issues! Love it!
