1.0 out of 5 stars.  WON'T WORK!!!!, September 29, 2010
By c3100
I ordered this pin for my 2011 Chevy Silverado HD 2500. The description said it would work on the Chevy/GMC 2500 & 3500 series trucks. I can absolutely tell you the pin is TOO short for the new factory hitch. Don't buy this pin if you have a 2011 Chevy or GMC 2500 or 3500 pickup.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid, March 10, 2010
By Drew (Virginia)
Very solid design and a good weather cap over the keyhole give me confidence that this lock will last. The extra length of this lock as compared to most other locks on the market ensured that I had no problem fitting it onto my hitch. Fits the stock trailer hitch on my Toyota FJ Cruiser perfectly.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  New O-ring and grease really helps, December 9, 2010
By K. MCRAE
Very sturdy product. My last one was chrome and not nearly as beefy.

Only challenge is the o-ring that comes on it is too big, or maybe it has stretched out during storage and shipment in hot environments. So when you push the shaft into the lock the o-ring doesn't seat, so doesn't seal out moisture as it is intended. I went to the hardware store and for 30 cents got a new one for both of my locks, (I use two for an adjustable drop hitch.) Put a little lithium grease, or even vaseline, on the oring and it seals the lock chamber perfectly.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Look elsewhere, July 16, 2011
By JW (Portland, OR)
Master lock has done a disservice with this lock. I have not had to buy a lock for quite some time and Master Lock used to be a reputable brand. Have things changed that much? As other reviews for this or a very similar product showed, the "O" ring on the shaft of this lock fits poorly. This is supposed to seal out dirt and moisture? Come on, it is not rocket science to know the "O" ring must fit properly. This ring is so loose on the shaft that when you put the lock on it pinches a portion of it out of the lock. A cheap piece of rubber and they can't get it right! As to the lock being "push to lock" as the package describes--not without the key and having to turn the key to lock. Maybe I am doing something wrong or the lock is not working properly (if the later, yet another black mark for this product). I am sure it will do the job and being stainless, I suppose is a plus, but there are better products out there for the money. Keep looking!

UPDATE: After contacting Masterlock, I was informed they "redesigned" the "O" ring and would send me a replacement. Not sure it needed to be redesigned rather then simply putting on the correct size! I received the replacement (actually two of them) promptly and it fits much better. Now it is almost too small, so we'll see how well it will seal dirt and moisture out. Kudos at least to their customer service!

Installed on a class IV hitch 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (wj), fits with room to spare. I like how the key lock is at a 90 degree angle.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  F-150 Approved!, December 20, 2010
By Michael D. Adams (Jeffersonville, IN USA)
I recently purchased the Master Lock 1469DAT 3" Stainless Steel Heavy-Duty Receiver Lock to use on my 2006 Ford F-150. I was looking for a solid receiver pin, and wanted something with a lock to ensure that someone could not easily make off with my trailer or other accessories. Aside from the trailer, ball mounts and hitch covers are far too expensive to be replacing every time some jerk decides to run off with yours. Yet removing them every time you go to the store is also a pain.

I ordered the 1469DAT via Amazon, and it arrived very quickly. The construction is solid, and the price from Amazon is better than what I found in local stores. I had no issues installing it or locking it. The pin length was fine for my F-150, and in fact it left a little room to spare. The stainless steel construction is sure to hold up and not rust, which is great. There is an O-ring which fits into the locking mechanism that seems a little loose. There is a shorter version of this receiver lock sold on Amazon that has photos of this issue. See: Master Lock 1480DAT Stainless Steel Receiver Lock for 5/8' Receiver Hole. O-rings are easily replaced, though, if it ever becomes an issue.

As noted by another reviewer, I was a bit surprised to find that the end cap (the end opposite the lock) was PINK, not red as shown in the photo. For the most part it doesn't stand out too badly (my truck is copper colored). Still, I would think for a truck part Master Lock would show a little more attention to detail. But overall that does not detract from my appreciation of the construction of this lock and the convenience it provides.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Does not fit new trucks., December 13, 2010
By Sierra2500
This lock does not fit a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500.

The new heavy duty hitch is too wide for the unit to lock.

It is a solid unit and seems to be built well, it just doesn't fit.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pink?!, September 22, 2010
By J. Jenson
It seems to do the job ok. The locking nut doesn't slide off and on as well as I would have hoped and there's an O-ring on the shaft that is loose.

Rather annoyed that the end opposite the lock (the part you can see the master logo on in the pic) was PINK when I got it. My truck is blue granite and that while minor really annoys me considering the picture shows it all black and chrome.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Embarassing flaw., July 4, 2011
By jv (USA)
Everything about this is 5 star and except two things, one cosmetic and one pretty much ridiculous.

The o-ring that seals out the lock innards from the elements is too big and gets pinched when the lock is pushed on the base, so it not only is visibility pinched and hanging out somewhere, but it's obvious the seal isn't what it should be. The fact that master lock can't put the correct size o-ring on this thing is pretty amazing. Instead of returning mine I will probably just go and buy the correct o-ring at a hardware store. This issue is so obvious and so easy to fix from the manufacturer's end I'm deducting all stars for it. This problem has been mentioned before on reviews for the product and they've either not bothered to fix it in a timely fashion or I got a lock that had been on the shelf for a long time.

The other thing was that the colored part appears red online everywhere and the one I have is pretty much pink. It just doesn't look right on my truck. If I intended to use the lock more than a few times a year this would have been a deal breaker.

Other than that it fits my Curt mfg 13333 receiver hitch put on a Dodge Ram Sport (OEM type) fine, the shorter one would actually work (this one is extended length) but there isn't any harm in having this one so down the road it can serve more vehicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great lock, June 22, 2011
By Old'nCranky
Just received this lock and put on my hitch. I have a 2008 GMC 2500 with a 2 1/2" receiver, it fit with ease. It also locked and unlocked very easy. I believe this is well worth the money spent knowing some clown won't be walking off with my trailer, at least it won't be a cakewalk! If this is not what I think it is, I'll let you all know when that happens! Happy trailering.....

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't leave it on during the winter!, June 18, 2011
By JD (Green Bay, WI USA)
As with all other locking hitch pins, don't leave it on for any extended period of time during the winter.
This one is no exception, as it will collect salt and corrode thus seizing the lock.

It is definitely a strong lock, as it took a locksmith 45 minutes to drill it out when mine got corroded.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well Built, May 23, 2011
By Jason Wishard (Round Hill, VA United States)
I've never left it on during rain or snow, so I'm not sure if it will corrode quickly, but it seems incredibly durable. The only downside is that the keyhole cap doesn't go on the whole way. The one side is slightly raised. It never comes off to uncover the keyhole, but I'd imagine water could get in that way and over time, corrode the locking mechanism. Outside of that, I love Master Lock products and this one has yet to disappoint me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Receiver Lock on '03 Dodge Ram 1500, February 16, 2011
By D. Hollinrake
I got this lock to make sure my adjustable drop hitch wouldn't walk off.

It is more than long enough to fit through my receiver. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. I can't be sure but it seems like the reviews that say this is too short are talking about Master Lock 1480DAT Stainless Steel Receiver Lock for 5/8' Receiver Hole. It looks identical but has a blue end instead of a red one.

As far as durability, I've only had it on for about a week now, so I will try to remember to update this review in a few months.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Looks super strong! High quality look and feel!!, September 3, 2010
By Brandon (Iowa)
If you are looking for a QUALITY receiver lock this is the one! Looks like its built to last a lifetime. All Stainless steel, IMO you shouldn't skimp on one of these you are only asking for trouble and ALWAY get QUALITY stainless steel!! If there was one improvement, I would like to beable to install this with out the key but you need the key to both remove (duh!) and install the pin, a minor inconvinience but its easy to deal with.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poorly made, September 27, 2011

Bought this lock for my 2006 Tacoma, I needed a lock with a long shaft to span the Tacoma stock receiver. This lock was broken right out of the package. The keys are VERY soft metal, they bent and when the lock was engaged the mechanism would not lock. I thought because it was a Master Lock it would be decent quality, it was not.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Receiver Lock on '03 Dodge Ram 1500, February 16, 2011

Quick Review:

Long Review:

Update (1 Oct 2011):

Well this has been sitting on my truck outside since I bought it and the red end has now faded and basically looks like a VERY faint pink. Not a big deal, who cared about the color anyways? It still opens and locks smoothly. One thing I have noticed is that the O-ring seems to be a bit large. I honestly can't remember if I noticed that when I originally opened it up or not but I just make sure it stays where it's supposed to when I go to lock the head back on the pin. I don't often bother taking my hitch off though either. This might be more of an issue with someone that has to constantly switch hitches.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Less than PERFECT Receiver Master Lock..is NOW fixed!! READ solution!!, April 13, 2012
By D. Harrison (Houston, TX USA)
PRO's:
- rated at 10,000 lbs
- 5.8" dia shaft
- stainless steel
- RED end looks purrrrrety!!
- reasonably priced

CON's: As a number of owners have mention, "Master Lock" went the cheap route, and supplied this lock with a "less than desirable" "O-ring" made from cheap rubber, as opposed to Buna-N rubber. Straight out of the wrapper, I opened up the lock with the key, and when I tried to replace it, the rubber o-ring had already deformed, and wouldn't sit properly [even when I asked "nicely"].

SOLUTION: Since Master Lock was too cheap to supply the right o-ring, you [and I] can go to Home Depot, and order a few with these dimensions:
Nominal ID: 3/8" [this dim. is accurate]
Nominal OD: 5/16"

Home Depot P/N is "Danco #8 O-Ring", qty 10, in the Bathroom faucet repair area, for about $2.30. It's a good, snug fit, but I suggest you either use spit, or "KY" jelly [which ever is most convenient! lol!!]. Contrary to other notes on this thread, do NOT use "Vasoline", or similar, as they are made from petroleum jelly, and since it's oil-based, it will attack the O-ring rubber. OTOH, 100% silicone paste, or spray is OK to use.

Ordered this thinking "Oh a Master Lock, Oh YAH". Once it arrived I found myself very disappointed to find out the O-ring is defective and the key-boot was not as sealed as I hoped... Ended up returning it and bought me a "Trimax T-3BLACK Premium 5/8" Key Receiver Lock Rugged BLACK epoxy powder coat" as a replacement which is 100X better. Sorry Master. Going Trimax from now on.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Hitch lock - be careful if you want to use with Thule Hitch Racks, August 17, 2011
By Michael Ellery (Carlsbad, CA USA)
I bought this to use with a Thule 915XT trailer hitch bike rack that I purchased at the same time - mainly because I didn't want to pay $40 for the Thule hitch lock. Well, be forwarned - you will have to drill a hole on the Thule hitch insert (actually, two holes) if you want to use this lock. I have a drill press and metal hole drills, so I was able to do this without too much hassle - but I suspect most folks won't want the hassle. If you want to use this lock with other standard hitch inserts, you'll probably be fine. The lock itself is solid and a good value.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Deceptive Advertising, August 13, 2011
By Tazman32 (Sunbury, Ohio)
I purchased this lock as a combo offer with a hitch cover. The hitch cover fit both 2-inch and 1.25-inch receivers. No where was in the description did it mention that the lock ONLY fits 2 inch receivers. I, of course, happen to have a 1.25 inch receiver. So this $24 item is absolutely worthless for my application. Looks like a decent lock. Too bad I'll never be able to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, solid product, July 7, 2011
By M. Sharp (Simi Valley, CA United States)
Purchased this receiver lock to secure a bike rack on my 2006 Dodge RAM 2500. Fits perfectly and is easy to lock/release based on the location and design of the product. I have had no issues with the lock and actually bought a second one for a friend when they saw mine and needed the same thing. They found a similar lock at a local store, but could not compete with the price on Amazon.

I've only had the lock for about 2 months, but so far, it has held up perfectly.

If you need a receiver lock, don't hesitate with this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Key broke off in lock first time I turned it, June 26, 2011
By edwards (Colorado)
This is the 2nd one of these I have had, the first one performed fine. However, with the new one, the first time I put in the key, which is quite thin and turned it, the key broke in half, could not be removed from the lock, so I had to throw the entire thing out. Quality must be going down hill, I am just glad it didn't happen out on the road when I needed to remove or insert the pin.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quality Lock for my F-150, June 17, 2011
By Thomas Marks (Grants, NM)
I recently upgraded my receiver hitch and wanted to protect my investment by purchasing a quality lock. After researching different locks and reading all the reviews, I settled on the Master Lock 1469DAT. It fit my F-150 receiver with room to spare. Some reviews have noted issues with the O-ring and lock not opening or closing easily.

When I received this lock, I brushed a thin coat of bearing grease on the inside of the lock including the locking cam and O-ring which greatly increased the locking ease of the lock. During this time, I found that the key needs to be in the lock for the locking cam to release and engage the end of the shaft. This was confirmed in the instructions which also said that the lock will engage the shaft with a positive "click" which then allows the key to be pulled out of the locking end.

Overall, I like the anti-theft design of the lock which doesn't make it easy for a hammer, pipe or prybar to be used to bend or break either end of the lock off while on your receiver. No lock is perfect but I didn't read anywhere on the internet where this lock had been easily compromised.

As with all locks, with enough time and opportunity, any lock can be compromised. Hopefully, this lock won't make it easy.

7/2011 Update:
I bought a second lock to use on my Bulldog hitch. Other than a few 1/4" shaft locks that are easily broken off with a hammer, I thought I would use this lock. I drill out the 1/4" hole to 5/8" and slipped this lock in the new hole. It prevents the coller from sliding past the hole and unlocking the receiver ball. I bought this longer shafted lock to prevent a prybar from gaining purchase between the lock and the hitch. Drilling out the hole was no easy task but now that I have the this second lock in place, I feel a heck of a lot more confident that my trailer won't be an easy target.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  ML 1469DAT fits '05 F350 with heavy tow package, June 13, 2011
By Jack Durham
The ML 1459DAT lock pin is easy to put on and take off my truck ('05 F350 dually with heavy tow package) receiver. I like the easy install; the pin has plenty of room to slide into place, and WITH THE KEY IN LOCK, the lock easily slides fully on the pin. After pushing the lock into place on the pin, just remove the key to engage the lock. Where I fish, boat and trailer thieves commonly use these techniques: a) quickly cutting the trailer hitch lock, or b) quickly removing the receiver pin, pulling the trailer away from the truck, and sliding the receiver into their truck. I discourage these types of thiefs by using a Master Lock 1469DAT receiver pin lock AND a Master Lock 187XD Titanium Padlock, 2-5/16-inch Wide, Black as the hitch lock. Both locks are offered by Amazon at better than local retail stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock 1469DAT 3" Stainless Steel Heavy-Duty Receiver Lock, June 3, 2011
By Herb (Upstate NY)
Works perfect. Would rather have seen it designed like former locks without the lock being on an angle for my use. In my application, with the Rhino step, it takes some lining up to get the key in, because of the location of the anti-rattle feature on the step. Shouldn't be an issue on a normal hitch. Needs to be cleaned and lubed (WD40) on a regular basis or rust spotting will appear even though it is stainless. Some very fine sandpaper will easily remove any rust spots. I live in the Northeast where winter road salt is always an issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well made, April 1, 2011
By Brad
Have only had this product briefly but can tell its extremely well made adn being stainless nearly worry free. Its a little long, which I prefer as I hate stuff that barely fits. Fits III perfectly. Will be nice not having to be concerned about some tool stealing the hitch, or worse the trailer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fits Stock 2005 GMC 1500 hitch, March 30, 2011
By Dko3030
The only problem with the product was a small one. the rubber o-ring was quite loose probably due to age. An easy fix and I would expect the same result if purchasing it from a retail store. Lock functions normally, and it seems like it is pretty rugged. Time will tell but as of this writing I have more faith in the lock than the previous lock I had which was not a Master Lock.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well worth the money, November 9, 2010
By Tim Rose (Florissant, MO)
Well worth the money to keep my drop hitch & hitch cover from being stolen. Time will tell if it can hold up to the elements without rusting.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect fit, exactly what I was looking for., October 27, 2010
By Leonard4
I purchased a Curt Manufacturing D-534 2 In Drop Loaded Ball Mount W/ 2 In Ball to use with my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and I needed something that I could use to lock the mount and trailer to my truck. My vehicle wasn't listed but I took the chance and everything worked out. It has about 1/4 inch extra room so it definitely fits the stock hitch on the 2001 Pathfinders. Swivel lock works great, rubber cover is solid and the o-ring that seals the lock mechanism is perfectly sized and seals great. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid hitch lock.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Right length, right solution, October 1, 2010
By Timothy C. Tatum
I recently bought two of these for towing my car behind a Class C RV. I was concerned about getting one long enough to go through the receiver and the tow bar. This one is long enough for almost every application. I just returned from a two week trip and had no problems with locking and unlocking. It does the job.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Needs Key to Lock as well as UNlock, June 17, 2011
By J. Foster (San Jose CA)
Pro's: strong and sturdy, no rust (stainless steel), more than long enough for generic hitch receivers, good looking. Yeah and now the Cons: key insertion force needed is way more than other hitch receiver locks I have now or had in the past; worst issue for me is that the pin can only be inserted into the lock WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE LOCK. The extra step needed to insert the key, before putting it on the pin, is a PITA (imho). Then, of course, you have to also take the key out of the lock after it is on the pin (another extra step). Minor issues? Sure, but when you do a lot of hitching, they get real annoying real fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock for my Dodge 2500, January 29, 2012
By Anthony Greco
Works out well on my 2001 Dodge 2500 front and rear tow receivers, using them to secure D ring tow hitches for pulling. The rubber seal looks like it may keep the water and salt out of the tumbler assembly. Not concerned about the small O ring seal as it is an easy replacement at any hardware store for about 10 cents. I have always trusted Master Locks !!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock, January 8, 2012
By A.I. (NY)
The key handle broke off the first time I tried to open the lock and the key got stuck in the cylinder. The keys are thin and don't look durable at all. Got to be real careful when unlocking, otherwise the key brakes easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Lock, December 17, 2011
By BW
The receiver lock is very solid and fits the bigger hitch on my 2011 Tundra just fine. The O-ring was loose, as others have mentioned, but I had some laying around and swapped it out.

Gets a Four only because of the loose O-ring.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Terrific, But Still Shipped with Wrong O-Ring, December 17, 2011
By FJ40
This is a very handy receiver lock that promises to provide good service and provides a smart right angle key access. Unfortunately, despite the several prior reviews citing the O-ring problem, mine still arrived with the wrong sized O-ring that interferes with the closure and leaves gaps to weather. Amazon: send memo to Master Lock Company to correct this problem already, and start adding a corrected O-ring to future shipments! Potential customers should first contact Amazon to verify that corrected O-ring comes with otherwise excellent item.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock 1469DAT 3" Stainless Steel Heavy-Duty Receiver Lock, November 4, 2011
By Ray E. Dryden (Pennsylvania)
The product is visually appealing and it has "name" cachet. The Master Lock Stainless Steel Receiver Lock looks like a good product. However, the design is flawed; the lock is difficult to actually LOCK, and the locking is difficult to confirm. The result is that I "lost" the lock, and a receiver cap because the lock appeared to be locked but was not. At least I did not also leave a boat or camper lying on the roadside.

I have since (111/10/2011) bought the Reese Towpower 7030200 Professional 5/8" Stainless Steel DogBone Style Receiver Lock, and it is highly satisfactory in design and comparable to this lock in strength and security. The Reese Towpower 7030200 Professional 5/8" Stainless Steel DogBone Style Receiver Lock has a push-button locking design that assures the lock is properly in place and gives a visual confirmation of that locking.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great way to secure hitch cover, October 26, 2011
By Chris
This pin is replacing a cheap old locking pin i purchased a couple years ago at walmart. The old pin was chrome plated and began to rust quickly. I chose this pin because of its stainless steel construction and its 3 1/4" length which fits perfectly in the receiver of my aftermarket bumper. the quality seems excellent and the lock is well sealed making me confident that it will not freeze if left on all winter.

Some people may complain about the red end of the pin fading to pink but it doesnt bother me as its tough to see with a hitch cover or other accessory in place

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock 1469DAT 3" Stainless Steel Heavy-Duty Receiver Lock, October 16, 2011
By Bill Alberti
When I received this lock from Amazon and put on my hitch, I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with heavy duty tow package and it fit with ease, maybe could have gone with a shorter lock, but It locks and unlock very easily. The lock works great, the keys are a bit bulky. Overall, I like the anti-theft design of the lock which doesn't make it easy to bend or break either end of the lock off while on your receiver.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Extended Length, September 12, 2011
By Jim Moore (San Diego)
The Master 1469DAT is the extended length shaft fits Toyota Tundra, Ford F-150/F-250/ F-350, GMC/Chevy 2500/3500 and Dodge trucks with heavy duty tow packages.

The 1480DAT is the normal length unit. I recommend getting the 1469 as it will work on more vehicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Lock, August 25, 2011
By 06hawkeye
This receiver lock is just great. The lock portion is very easy to lock in place. You need only to have the key in the cylinder and push it on. It will automatically lock. You do not have to fumble turning the key to lock it, like some other brands. I would definitly buy another if needed.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Master Lock 1469DAT 3" Receiver Lock, September 28, 2011
By Barnacle
I bought this lock to go with the Thule Parkway Hitch Bike Carrier. Unfortunately the Bike Carrier has a threaded fitting to secure it to the hitch. The receiver lock is incompatible with the bike carrier and shouldn't be listed as an accessory.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Tow Hitch Lock, May 11, 2012
By Heisenberg
The bolt itself is an excellent product. The lock and key are the biggest piece of crap ever. Both keys broke on me. Luckily the second one broke after I got it off my hitch or else I would have to either saw it off or weld it off. If they made the key out of a thicker metal this would be an excellent product.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  O-ring is Too Big, March 29, 2012
By Airborne
I got longer lock just in case I need to cut it off with air tool.
O-ring is size too big.
Got smaller O-ring and placed it in front of OEM O-ring.
Hope double ring will keep dust out.
Lock works but it catches little but with proper cleaning it should work for little while.
