5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wald 585 Rear Basket, July 5, 2007
By Rookie
Buying my third Wald 585. I now have one on each of my families bikes. Very unique basket for rear rack mounting. Received a lot of positive comments on this basket from others who saw it. Great for groceries, backpack, computer case, etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  BEWARE - DOES NOT FIT WALD RACKS, October 4, 2008
By J. Ross (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I wanted a basket for my bicycle and made the logical decision to purchase a rack (required for mounting) from the same manufacturer. BIG MISTAKE. By Wald's (the manufacturer)own admission the tooling for the rack changed 3 years ago and the basket has not been updated. (I was assured that they are working on a new tooling, 3 years, give me a break!) They told me to attach the basket with zip ties. This makes if very unstable. Go for another brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good basket, April 14, 2008
By new biker (Minneapolis MN)
I received this basket via UPS and it was bent and the box looked like it had been to hell and gone. I hate UPS, every time I get anything from them the boxes are all ripped up, beaten, and what not. It's amazing anything gets delivered not broken.

Anyway, the basket is great. The one thing about it is that if you have a different rack to mount it on, it might not fit right with the bracket that is included with the basket. I ended up fastening mine with zip ties and a bungee cord since the rack I have is not the one sold with this basket. Just FYI. Otherwise the basket is a nice size, fits a grocery bag perfectly, but not much else.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Size, Works Well, October 14, 2009
By bookowski (Brooklyn)
This basket is a nice size, it's big enough that it's actually functional for things like groceries, schoolbooks etc. but not so big as to be bulky or cumbersome. It feels relatively sturdy and for the price I would say it's definitely worth it. The mounting clip that comes with it does not work with most rear racks as several other people have mentioned, I removed the Wald clip and used zip-ties as others recommended and this seems to be working well so far. It would be nice it Wald updated this mounting gear. The rear basket seems to be more stable than a front mounted version where steering gets a little affected with heavy loads. Overall a really nice and useful basket.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good rack for the money, not the sturdiest, June 8, 2009
By Jeff (North Carolina)
This is a great little basket for the money. Perfect size for a quick trip to the market, it can hold a six pack with room for a bag of chips and loaf of bread. My only reservation with it is the mounting system. I have a MTB rack (mountain bike) and the basket's included "mounting system" is essentially a screw and bolt, so it doesn't work. (i'm not sure WHAT rack it would mount to). It also rattles. My advice - use a couple small bungee cords and a piece of fabric or foam between basket and rack and it seems to work just fine. Good for the money, but if you can afford the more expensive racks, do it.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  basket case, September 22, 2009
By bayagito (Los Angeles, CA USA)
be aware. all you get is a basket, this product does not come with the hardware that attaches to the wheel of the bike. i would've never bought this item at this price. the basket sits in the garage while i save up for the necessary hardware.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great looking basket for the price!, May 27, 2010
By Jess (Goodyear, AZ USA)
As other reviews state, I did have to use zip ties to secure the basket in place, however, it was no big deal, I used clear zip ties and you can't even see them after I cut off the extra part of the tie that came through the loop. This is a great looking basket and I'm glad I purchased it to go with the Wald #215 rear rack I also purchased, the pair look great together and match my chrome fenders, I love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  not what I thought, July 17, 2011
By Allen Beck (Ohio)
The diagram on the website showed a basket and support bars. I got a basket and a couple nuts with no possible way of attaching to my bicycle. I e-mailed Wald and got no response. I would not order from this company again. Very deseptive and they have ignored my dissatisfaction with their product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike basket, May 2, 2011
By Patrick J. Krawietz
For the low price I paid, I received a quality bike basket. The product was as advertised. I simply used zip ties to hold it into place on my bike rack. It works very well and doesn't look "girly".

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I l-o-v-e this basket, June 3, 2010
By Eloquence Lives (Rocky Mtns., CO USA)
How did I live without it? Good-bye backpacks and messenger bags. This basket is the perfect shape and size for my hybrid grocery-getter bike. It mounts easily to any standard bike rack. Mine did require a little modification with a few hose clamps, but no big deal. This basket is sturdy and well made. Makes running errands in town a breeze, from library books, packages from the post office to farmer's market. Did I mention I LOVE this basket ?

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Just Big Enough, June 23, 2010
By Amanda M. Stephens (Corpus Christi, TX United States)
This basket is a perfect fit on my bike. I do not have a Wald rack, just a factory Huffy. The clasp enclosed still worked, however, for the front & the rear I secured with zip ties--simple, easy, no problems. I keep a couple of bungie cords wrapped around to keep things from bouncing out, and have no problems whatsoever getting my groceries home in one piece. A great buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Buying my second rack, May 25, 2009
By JnC (San Francisco)
Nice and slim but still holds a grocery bag or other odds and ends. Not sure about the attachment issue that some people mention since I'm using zip ties (which have been good for a couple years now).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Unique, practical basket, October 28, 2008
By D. Schwarz (New York, NY USA)
The basket is well made, sturdy, and holds everything I need for my commute (laptop, change of clothes, lunch). The only negative is that the mounting hardware included is inadequate. I used zip-ties to secure the basket to my rack and I'm very happy with the result.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Not perfect, but it will get you there..., October 9, 2008
By Reese Gaudouen (Columbia)
This basket's fastening mechanism didn't work with what was mounted over my rear wheel. Bungee cords attached it well enough, but it would have been nice for it to be a little better connected. Still, it hasn't come off yet and it's the perfect size to hold a bookbag or groceries.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  it is not solid, March 3, 2011
By bbfly (Arlington, VA USA)
well, you need to buy extra screws and you need special tools to fix them. And it is not as solid as it looks. Before you buy, you need to know it fits to your bike, even the amazon tries to sell them in a bundle.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Some problems, May 10, 2010
By buick man (Marion, OHio)
The basket itself is very nice, well constructed, etc. BUT it does not fit on the carrier on the rear of the bike without some use of plastic ties or some other ingenous device. No instructions at all on how to fasten on the carrier.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor Description, July 3, 2011
By Carl
This picture looks like it will mount on the rear of any bicycle. This was not so. You must already have one of those flat racks already mounted over the rear wheel for this basket to mount on. Including that mounting hardware (one would think) should not be that difficult. But, alas such was not the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Size Basket, July 25, 2011
By cjc121 (St. Louis, MO USA)
I bought this WALD 585 BASKET knowing it wouldnt fit my Schwinn bike fender rack. Its made for Wald bikes only & the clips do not fit Schwinn bike racks. I did manage to screw the front clip down & used plastic ties to attach it to my bike. Im sure it could hold a full bag of groceries easily.

The basket looks great & is a good value even if the clips do not fit my Schwinn bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Will not attach to my rack, June 28, 2011
By TNreader (Memphis, TN)
This will not attach with the provided hardware to the rack on my Trek bicycle. I will have to attach it with zip-ties.

Otherwise the basket is fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love this basket!, May 4, 2011
By bqe278
It is the perfect size for toting everything around. It keeps the weight balanced and doesn't interfere with pedaling the way saddlebags sometimes do. I use it with a bungee net over the top to secure items. The hardware didn't really work with my rack but it was easy enough to retrofit with supplemental bits from the hardware store.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good basket, hardwear not so great, September 18, 2011
By Amanda I. Banet
I'm really happy with this basket. It fits one paper/cloth grocery bag perfectly and looks cute on my vintage bike. The deduction of one star is for the mounting hardware. The provided hardware didn't work with my Avenir Rear ATB Rack. I ended up using 8 zip ties to attach it instead, which worked really well and is very sturdy. The bracket it came with, however, is permanently attached to the basket in such a way that it made it so the basket would not sit flush with my rack. To fix this I took some pliers and bent it into a flat position. You might be able to get it off, but with my tools I couldn't get enough leverage to bend the attachment point open.

Sounds like a hassle, I know, but the basket it took all of 10 minutes to do and I'm really happy with the finished product.

Would have helped to have description of the basket include the fact that the bracket needed to install basket was not included and needed to be ordered separately.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice size, but doesn't fit all racks, January 30, 2012
By dianakk
I bought this basket knowing that I'd have to attach it with zip ties (thank you to all the reviewers that warned me). What I didn't count on was the big metal hinge on the bottom that I couldn't remove. It wouldn't allow me to attach it the way I wanted - it's currently across the rear rack, rather than down the length. If you aren't choosy about which way the basket sits, it's a great size. I haven't extreme tested it, but it appears to be sturdy enough to hold what I need on my commute to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good value, January 5, 2012
By Chris Scott
Received the basket on time as promised. The product itself more than met my expectations, has what appears to have a durable finish and so far has been very stable when carrying small loads. Very pleased with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  smaller, rough, doesn't fit too well, October 15, 2011
By trying online shopping for a change
Was not very compatible with present bike rack and metal finish felt rough, quite small for the size, didn't end up installing, didn't want to risk it and not be able to return it, seemed too tricky to have to install so that it would stay. Bad purchase for what I had - may not be for you if you purchase a rack that is complimentary to the design of this basket. Not sure it would hold up in my opinion.
