5.0 out of 5 stars.  The most breathable gloves I've ever had, July 19, 2009
By Seth R (MA)
I found these Pearl Izumi gloves at a sports department store I'll leave nameless, but they didn't have the size I needed. For my lean stature I figured a large would be plenty big, but they were rather tight, especially in the webbing of my fingers. I ordered the XL size from Amazon and they fit perfectly - snug in all areas and no stress on the wrist closure. So keep in mind to order up one size for best comfort.

After wearing these in the heat it's safe to say they're the most breathable gloves I've ever had. The back of the hand is a mesh material and you can practically see your hand through it. I appreciate ventilation after having thick gloves for years. More importantly, the palm of the hand is Clarino leather with anti-microbial lining. And the gel pads are split into segments so there is less pressure when gripping the handlebars. My hands remain dry and comfortable. Not a lot of sweat and no soreness. Lastly, just a note: I have the "screaming yellow" color and there's a green tinge to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great gloves!, June 26, 2009
By The Penguin (Santa Clara, CA)
After several years, I'm back on my mountain bike commuting to work 9 miles each way. I rode for two days without gloves. As I am out of shape, I do a fair amount of leaning on the handlebars and definitely felt worse. My hands definitely feel much better with these gloves. There is padding for both the top of the hand and the bottom. The padding closest to the wrist is in two pieces (left and right) which means that the padding doesn't bunch up. The leather on the thumb area make shifting easy. These gloves also breath well. I like them a lot; as I've only worn them a few times, I don't know how durable they are. They run a bit on the small side. Overall these gloves are very comfortable and function well.

One year ownership update: I've now had these gloves for a year. They are still in great shape. The seams are all still intact. The gel pads are still nice and squishy. The only wear is the surface of the "leather"; it's a bit pilled, but not much. I've put more than 1300 miles on these gloves. And the best thing about them is that I wash them by hand with a little laundry soap and they are dry the next morning if I give them a short ride in the spin cycle of the washer to remove the majority of water. Stinky, crusty gloves can be so gross! Love these gloves!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Fit, Good Features, Good Padding, November 26, 2009
By Beast From The East (Florida)
Before purchasing I measured the circumference of my hand using a flexible tape from the heel of the palm around the area between the thumb and index finger and using Pearl Izumi's size chart I determined my hand was a large. I ordered the large size and they fit perfectly. I appreciate the absorbent material on the thumbs to wipe sweat with. To quickly remove the gloves, I use the thumb of my opposite hand placed between the glove and my palm to easily push the glove off my hand. The gloves are cool and light and with only 60 miles seem to be well constructed.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl Izumi Select Gel Cycling Glove, May 17, 2009
By D. Brian Youens (Murrieta, CA USA)
This is a very servicable glove, that does all that I ask it to. I have worn the gloves for over 500 miles of road biking. The gel cushioning is adequate. The XXL size is large enough for my hands. My only complaint was that the "Screaming Yellow" color is more of a yellow-green. I wanted a really bright yellow color to match my jersey.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy well padded, May 27, 2010
By Chace T. Parask (CLOQUET, MN, US)
I looked at my local bike shops for gloves they had many popular brands, but the gel in them didn't seem very thick and I am 6'2" and weigh 250lbs. So I wanted sturdy, well padded gloves. I have put on about 400 miles with these gloves and they feel great. I think the gel is placed well. I love the material on the back of the hand, it breaths well and I feel like there is nothing on the back of my had. The gloves seem to stand up really well. I think these gloves are a great buy. High quality and compared to my local bike shop and other websites I don't think you will find a better deal. I am really pleased and I hope my review helps. That is how I decided to get these gloves.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Padding for Long Rides, November 22, 2009
By alipacha
I was looking for a glove that would give me some really good padding for long rides. I looked at a ton of different brands but Pearl always seems to have some of the best products! The padding is in the perfect spot for long rides on a road bike. The padding works well for riding on the hoods or on the drops. I love the white color because I have a white bike. If you are looking for good padding these gloves are great!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Padding, March 16, 2010
By Benny Bennight
Gloves have very good padding making long rides easier. They do have a lot of give so tend to run a little large you might want to size down one size.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fit/comfort, but Made in China quality, April 17, 2011
By kkrueger12 (Omaha, NE USA)
I took the same route on a bike ride to compare the comfort of these gloves versus some cheaper ones I got from Performance. There is no comparison. The Pearl Izumis, while feeling a bit too snug off the bike, felt great on the bike. I usually get a little numbness in my hands, but not with the Pearl Izumis.

On the downside, after one ride, the stitching started coming undone in one of the gloves near the thumb. I examined the stitching in both gloves, and the thread is fine, the cloth is thin, and the stitching is sloppy and too near some of the borders of the fabric. I restitched the glove, but I'll send it back if it comes apart again. If I'm paying this much for a glove, I don't want to see Made in China on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl Izumi Select Gel Cycling glove, June 3, 2010
By Strider1956 (West Virginia)
Well made product. The gel inserts do improve the ride somewhat. I usually wear extra large gloves but these were just a little big. Longest ride so far has been 2 + hours and they seemed to work well. Granted, my last gloves were 7 years old and had no padding. Overall I would buy these again.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great gloves, March 1, 2010
By cycloptical illusion (Seatle, WA USA)
I have to say I love these gloves. They are flexible and breathe well. They are also excellent shock absorbers. The cut-off fingers make it easy to manipulate all of those little things like lights, keys, helmet, shoes, etc. I washed mine according to the directions today and they held up very well. Be warned, the color is quite bright. I like the bright color though, as it matches the accent color on my bike and it helps me stand out just a little bit. I should say, I have only had the gloves for a few days, and cannot attest to their durability over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Glove, February 9, 2011
By Ryan
Purchased this glove to help combat some numbing I was getting while riding on the local towpath. Breathes great, velcro is nice and the padding is extensive. If you want a ton of padding this glove is for you. If you want a minimalist glove look else where. I tend to think there is almost too much padding on this glove but that's no fault of the glove, just my preference. Leather on the palm seems to be holding up great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable gloves at a reasonable price, April 29, 2010
By WWII Buff 217 (Atlanta, Ga, USA)
I decided to pick up a new pair of gloves before a long ride I had planned. I was looking for something breathable and with enough gel padding to be comfortable. These did the job well and were reasonable priced.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good gloves, April 12, 2010
By J. Schell
I took these gloves on a 6 day motorcycling trip and they worked perfectly. I'd never been much of a motorcycler or bicycler, but remembered feeling like my hands had nerve damage after spending a few hours holding a weedwacker as a kid. So I got these gloves and even after spending 6 hours a day riding, my hands were feeling just fine. Good meshing on the back to let your hands breathe and good gel grips on the inside to neutralize vibration. By the end of the trip the gel inside was totally distorted, but that might have been from a motorcycle crash or from constantly pulling back on the accelerator. I guess they're not made for extended use on a motorcycle. Good build though and if I were a bicycler I'd buy them again.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good gloves, but...., June 17, 2010
By G. Hoffman
Good gloves. Good constructions quality. They fit well. However....

They do not have a terry cloth section to wipe sweat with, which is something I had gotten used to having on my old gloves. Also, given the materials and whatnot, my best guess is these gloves will last a year or so - the wrist sections are very lightweight, which is good from a weight perspective but will likely be bad from a durability perspective. That's not a negative thing about the quality of the gloves - it's just a natural tradeoff when trying to make a light glove.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Quality, June 13, 2010
By VGx (Central FL, USA)
I've had these for about 2 months and they are worn about twice a week for rides ranging from 25-45 miles. So far they have held up ok, though the middle finger on one glove is just starting to unravel a little bit at the end. They breathe pretty well on the back because of the mesh and overall I have no complaints about them.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent Gloves, May 4, 2010
By ~Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit~ (Anderson, Indiana)
These gloves are pretty decent, not the greatest, but far from the worst. Very breathable, tight fitting, and for the most part comfortable, they are just a little stiff for me, but overall provides enough cushion vs support.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and comfy but not that durable., January 26, 2010
By FLASH (Union City, CA)
I found these gloves to be quite comfy and they do their job, however the stiching of the glove seems to already be showing some wear from only 2-4 uses. These are good overall, but do expect to buy new ones after 3 months of constant use.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best for Large Hands, January 3, 2010
By beecnul8r (Murrieta, CA United States)
I have very large hands and am always frustrated over what other brands call "extra large". Haven't found one until trying these. Their extra large is really extra large. I love the padding. They are a bit hard to get off, but that is a learned skill. I do hand wash and line dry these as machine washing, in my opinion, is the fastest way to ruin a pair. Wish they had the blue color in stock. Seems like the red and yellow are the only ones stores stock. I recommend you try these if you have large mitts and want a glove that is likely to fit for a change. I really would like the manufacturers to re-size their extra large gloves to be truly EXTRA Large. Hope one of you is reading this and takes action.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Little thick and nothing to wipe with, February 21, 2010
By NWA (NW Arkansas)
Made well but just not very useful.

It has a little too thick padding that don't seem to be in the right places for either of my bikes, drop bar or flat bar. There is no place to wipe your forhead on hot days or snot on cold days.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  bicycle gloves, December 26, 2010

I bought this product in an attempt to ease the pressure on my hands that occurs during long bike rides. The gloves are not very effective for that, additionally they are cheaply made.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well made and extremely comfortable, January 29, 2011
By billbobjo
First, size down. I'm 5'7" and not a big guy by any means, but I normally wear a medium glove. I bought a small because I heard other reviews say to size down, and they were right. These gloves do have some stretch to them. They are very well constructed, comfortable, and the padding is well placed. I would recommend these gloves, and I plan on buying another of the same pair when I burn through these ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Stuff, April 11, 2011
By easywriter882 (Yonkers, NY)
I have spent the past four years trading sports, after 20+ years racing and riding motocross, a knee replacement pointed me towards bicycles, the place I started racing. While I was a BMXer before I was an MXer, I am now a full on "roadie," as we call ourselves on road bicycles. In the first year it became apparent that I was a bit more ambitious than most of my friends and proceeded to spend the next 4 yeas suffering behind some very strong riders.

In that span of time Ive managed to go from enthusiast level to sportive rider level and finally 6 weeks ago racer. While I didn't win my first race ever, I didn't crash and I didn't finish last. I was around mid pack, not bad for a first effort. I did a lot worse in my MX debut...Lol. Something about older and wiser but I digress, the point is, along the way the name Pearl Izumi always seemed to be among the better items one who i shard core needs to look out for. I was bummed when I found out that Pear Izumi isn't a person, its the names of two Japanese icons. Company was started by the father of a promising Japanese Pro cyclist who was upset at the quality of items available at the time. He built the better mouse trap and while the company is now American owned and operated, the desire for high quality at reasonable prices are still a high ideal with the company.

Actual review, any product that racers find to work well, will me so much more than the average rider needs it isn't funny. You might think that "I dont race so need need higher quality" Thats wrong, where do ya think power steering, ABS brakes and anti skid and anti-roll and even disc brakes comes from...racing. These gloves are fine for a racer who logs 150+ miles a week in the summer on a bicycle. If they can suit the comfort and protection needs of someone like that, surely the casual rider will benefit on their 10-25 miles bike ride. The gel in the palm is perfectly placed to reduce vibration and road shocks, the mesh upper breathes on those muggy days and the chamois material on the thumb handles the snot rockets in Spring. Great gloves, great price on Amazon. :-) I am a professional writer, product tester and journalist but this was of my own volition, it is NOT a paid endorsement of PI or Amazon.
