| | These have been a lifesaver in our house. My young daughter and I are prone to canker sores. I've found that keeping one of these directly on the canker sore for about 15 minutes a couple of times per day can actually cure a sore, often within one day. Even better, I usually get 2 or 3 canker sores per month, and I have found that taking one of these per day (kind of like sucking on a mint) - even when I don't have a sore - prevents canker sores altogether. I have not had a SINGLE canker sore since I started doing this 6 months ago! On a side note, before I started using Cankermelts daily, I tried "Avamins" (which is a canker sore preventative made by the same company) and they did not work. I was disappointed, but since I had such success with Cankermelts for existing sores, I thought I'd try taking them daily, like Avamins, and it worked! My 6 year old has no trouble using them either, although she generally only uses them when she has a canker sore.
Cankermelts have a faintly sweet, pleasant flavor. Contrary to a prior reviewer's concern, they do NOT contain sugar. The sweetness is the natural flavor of the herb, and does not cause tooth decay.
These are not super sticky, and do not strongly adhere to and cover a sore like some products on the market. I have no trouble keeping it on a canker sore, and the lack of stickiness makes it much easier and more enjoyable to take one each day for prevention.
I can't recommend these highly enough!
| | | I've suffered from canker sores all my life, and this is the only product I've been able to use when I'm actively working! As both an internet radio DJ & Mobile DJ, I have to talk... a LOT. When I got canker sores, this was next to impossible to do without crying in pain or clenching my teeth together to talk. At one point, I thought I would have to stop DJing entirely because the pain became so unbearable I would actually vomit from the sheer intensity of it.
A few days ago, I developed a canker sore. After trying several numbing solutions I had enough! Crying in pain, I went to rite aid and told the pharmacist I needed something to heal my canker sores, not just block the pain. She handed me Cankermelts, and I looked at her hesitantly. She smiled and said " You will not be disappointed. I use this myself, it's the real deal "
When I came home and put my first disk on, it really hurt. I called the pharmacist and asked if this was a normal reaction, she said "Yes, don't worry the first one hurts horribly because the medicine is working. Once it dissolves you will feel wonderful." So I waited, and waited. Sure enough, the pain dissipated entirely! I could smile, talk, laugh, without pain!
I'm crying now, but not in pain... from happiness. THANK YOU CANKER MELTS!!
| | | Having suffered from canker sores my whole life, I've been waiting for some, or ANY, effective treatment to show up. I tried these out (and the similar Canker Cover product) when I read about them in a scientific study.
The CankerMelts have immediately become indispensible for me. I use them on every sore, as soon as I see them, and the damned sores have stopped controlling my life.
The patches don't work very well during the daytime, I will admit - moving around, talking, and eating just wears them off too quickly for them to do their thing.
So, I mostly use them at night. I put them on right before bed, and try to be careful not to dislodge them or move them around. Then they sit on the sore for 6-8 hours while I sleep. When this works (which for me is most of the time), the sore is mostly cured the next morning - it's got that smooth white coating that canker sores have when they are almost healed, and the pain is much reduced. Usually I don't need a second treatment, but I do sometimes if it's a bad sore or the patch didn't stick very well. Two nights in a row **always** cures them for me.
They don't work very well on the tip or edge of the tongue, because it's hard to get the patch to stick and stay, and it's hard not to move your tongue around even in sleep. But on my lips and gums, these things are great.
For me, it worked a lot better than the competing "Canker Cover" product, which is a thicker patch but has only an anesthetic active ingredient, not an anti-inflammatory. So that one numbed the sore for a few hours but didn't help it heal. The CankerMelt did a much better job of actually helping it heal, for me anyway.
| | Works for me, nothing else is as effective | |
| | I bought this locally at my CVS, but I usually buy from amazon, but when you got a painful cankersore, even overnight shipping is not soon enough. Cankermelts is the only canker product I've used in the past 10 years that actually works effectively for me. I usually get a canker sore once every few months from biting my lip, so I don't get it recurrently. I've used prescription paste, other "disc" patches, analgesic pastes, and other salves, you name it, I've probably tried it out. I think overall "patches" that cover the sore are always better, and this one is the most effective at healing faster and more importantly relieving the pain. I rate it 4 stars because the patches don't last as long as I'd like them to (at least 6-8hrs would be nice) I think they last 2hrs for me. They have a slight taste of licorice but that's the stuff that's healing. Cost-wise, I think they're cheaper than the other "disc" product out there; but they're about the size of a dime, so I cut them in half/quarters when I use them, so my supply lasts longer. But I think later this year (if not already) there will be a prescription "disc" available hopefully (Oradisc) that's been taking years to come out. I don't usually write reviews, but when something works I feel the need to contribute back to others who may be suffering. Overall I recommend trying this product if nothing else has worked for you.
| | Most effective product I've found. | |
| | I've suffered with canker sore for years. I've learned some of my triggers, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (I switched to JASON toothpastes) and ibuprofen (Advil) makes them much worse.
I've tried all of the over the counter treatments. Some of the other products help with the pain, but this is the only one I have found which TRULY shortens the course of the canker sores.
Sometimes they are painful on application, if the sore has progressed too far, but the pain goes away pretty quickly, and soon becomes much less than it was before applying the disc. This isn't a problem if I catch the sore early. No matter how bad the sore, and I had some almost as big as the disc, they are either completely gone or nearly so within three days, without fail.
I can't recommend Cankermelts enough. Please try them, as I'm sure you will be impressed. I also want everyone to know about these, so that they don't end up going off the market. I don't want to live without these little things!
