I don't use CB pedals without them anymore, May 24, 2011

The primary goal of these is to protect shoe soles from extra wear and tear from the narrow wings of Crank Brothers pedals. They work for that just fine.
In addition, they really improve the feel and float of Crank Brothers pedals, since now the wings can pivot on a slick metal surface instead of a sticky nylon or rubber surface. I love the feel and the clip-in is easier as well.
Like I said, I just plain won't use CB pedals without these anymore. My only knock is that they don't come stock with the pedals.

So far so good, April 18, 2011

I purchased the shoe shields in hopes of protecting a new pair of shoes and to provide a stiffer contact between shoe and pedal. I've got a couple hundred miles on them so far and the connection still seems tight. These are worth the cost to save the soles of your shoes and provide a tight fit to the cleat.

Purchased for my wife's carbon fiber sole mtb shoes. She was having trouble clipping into smarty pedals and these shields seem to have fixed the problem.

I wish I didn't need this product., August 17, 2011

Sometime in recent past Crankbrothers changed the cleat style. The older ones (no longer available) made metal-to-metal contact with the pedal outside the wing area. The newer cleats (both styles) do not have the extra surface area so that now the pedal wings make contact with my shoe soles in the area in front of behind the cleat. This is a soft area on all my shoes, so they start to wear out in that area.
I have started using these shield to prevent further damage to my shoes. The pedal wings contact the shield and protect the soles. I just wish Crankbrothers still made the old cleats, then I would not need these extra parts.

Very positive engagement, February 13, 2012

Using this under your cleat leads to very positive engagement on any type of shoe. You can really feel the cleat clicking in and it's very solid once there.
Only downside is that the metal-on-metal surface does sometimes makes a creaking sound. But even then it's only loud enough to notice if you're on a smooth road with few cars.
Overall I'd say this is worth it as it won't eat into the carbon fiber or poly surface of your shoe and adds very little weight.
