Step in the right direction!, September 7, 2009
By Timothy J. Etherington

I'm not a ultra but I do run and I've been looking for "the right water bottle." This one is pretty close to what I'm after. The mesh strap is moisture-wicking, but that only applies to the back of your hand. Your palm is smack against the plastic bottle and it get sweaty. Not a deal breaker. What I was most concerned about was whether the thing would stay strapped to my hand and it does. Works fine on either left or right hand. The nice thing about the strap is that you can use it to strap the bottle to your hand or you can carry the bottle loosely by it. You have options. The cap opens pretty easily and seals well. One thing I miss with this bottle is the straw, you do have to tip the bottle to drink. Again, not a deal breaker. The pouch is the right size. I put my driver's license and a Gu pack inside the zipper plus a Gu pack in the mesh pouch on the outside and still had room.
I got this with a gift card so I'm not sure how I would feel if I'd paid the full price for it. It seems a bit pricey but maybe I'm just cheap.

Pretty Close To Perfect, October 11, 2009
By Stella Dawson (California, USA)

I've been searching for the 'right' water bottle carrier to use while training for a Half Marathon, this fit the bill. The bottle holds enough for me to run 10 miles without refilling and didn't leak at all when tightly closed. The best thing about this bottle carrier is the pocket. I was able to fit my cellphone, cash, ID and house key in the pocket without a problem. If I didn't carry the phone, it would fit a pack or two of Sportbeans perfectly. The only drawback I found was how much of the hand is covered by the strap. I prefer less of the hand to be covered, but it didn't bother me too much. I didn't experience the sweat issue between the bottle and my hand, but on really hot days it could be a problem. I used it today on a 10 mile run and it worked perfectly.

Great handheld, but falls over when you set it down, November 1, 2009
By ~BW (MD)

I really like this product, my one gripe is that the strap on the bottom of the bottle prevents it from standing upright when I set it down. Adjusting the strap to your hand has a slight learning curve, otherwise, the mesh strap fits my hand snug and secure without having to really grip the bottle. The pouch size is rather generous, and I use the mesh pocket to hold a gel or some electrolyte pills. The rubber sipper is soft for a grab with the teeth, it feels better than plastic! You do have to make sure you close it well -- I've had a quite a few partial closes and suddenly think -- why is it raining on my leg? I think this is due to the soft material not being rigid and it squishes down without fully closing.
I have and will continue to recommend this product!

new to me, September 25, 2010

Carrying something during a run is new to me, and in fact something I swore I would never do. But, running longer distances recently proved that this was a good option for staying hydrated. I only take it on long runs (10 miles +) where I know I won't be able to find water along the way, and it's been great in terms of doing it's job.
In terms of comfort, it's great all things considered - I find myself having to readjust my grip or switch hands after an hour or so of a run... but never did I really want to just toss it to the curb... which is, frankly, how I expected to feel. All in all, it's great, and has a handy pouch which I use all the time for foodstuffs.

Nice !!, March 10, 2010

I was worried about holding a bottle for 20 miles but this one is very comfortable. After a quarter mile you forget that you are holding it.I like the pouch which will hold keys or gels. The mesh pocket on the outside is great for slipping in gel or gum wrappers instead of tossing them on the ground.

Great Bottle, January 8, 2011
By StreetRunner

I usually avoid bringing water with me on a run because I don't like extra weight throwing off my stride but, hydration being key, I decided to try out this bottle. It did not disappoint. The strap is great and can be tightened or loosened to your preference. What I especially like is the hole at the top of the strap: if you put your thumb through there the bottle will not leave your hand and will only shake minimally. It also allows you to squeeze the bottle to drink, although you don't really have to - the bottle is soft enough that you can suck the water out. The pocket has more than enough room to fit your keys and ID, plus a few gel packs, if that's your thing. I read some complaints about the cap not closing tightly, and if you try to close it with your teeth that is true, but I found that if you just hit it firmly with your opposite hand it's no problem. The bottle's contents do slosh around as you move, but that'll happen with almost any liquid carrying-device. Overall, this is a great hydration option that let's you easily drink mid-stride.

Good but small pocket, October 4, 2010
By WHTJr (Washington, DC United States)

It has made my running much simpler, I just toss everything in the pocket and go, alternating hands every mile or so. It will hold 20oz gatorade and powerade bottles as well as my other small waterbottles, but it does fit best with the bottle provided. The pocket is a good size for ID, keys, gel, small mp3 player, but just not big enough for my small blackberry (even when it is empty). Also you can't stand the bottle up when you do eventually put it down or when trying to fill it pre-run.

Great product :), September 26, 2011

I am new to running and came across this bottle on amazon. Based on the other great reviews I bought it. It was a great price and my friend has a bottle from the same brand. For me, the bottle holds enough for a 5-8 mile run. I get very thirsty so it just depends on how you are. The pocket was great to hold my car key, and honey stinger gels (2-3) I also reviewed those. I like how easily the liquid comes through and the soft tip so if you chew on it like me you won't get the sharp points. I am very small and petite and this fits my hand. I did a half marathon and my hand was not in any pain. My issue is my palm getting sweaty so I just took my boyfriends old white undershirt and cut out a piece to wrap around my hand. I keep it in place with a thin and loose rubber band. This way my palm and bottle don't get slippery. I would definitely recommend this hand bottle. Go for it! Happy running.

Messy Disappointment, August 30, 2011
By ctm111
|
|
Very disappointed. It's very messy. If doesn't stand up on its own, so it will naturally fall down, but thats not a problem. Problem is that it leaks even if you push the top all the way. This prevents putting it in your bag.
Also while running, precious water will always be dripping out and wetting your legs, shoes, and ground in front of you.

Awesome and bottle is BPA free., July 24, 2011
By Sean

Another great product from Nathan. Since the bottle wasn't labeled as being BPA free, I contacted the Nathan customer service department. I received an email back in under a couple of hours assuring me that the bottle is BPA free.
While running, this product doesn't overheat the hand. Also, if you make sure to run the velcro strap through the bottom loop before securing it, the bottle doesn't need to be gripped and the thumb can be used as a wedge for even more security.
Zippered pocket is large enough for an energy bar and there's an additional open pocket outside of that.

My favorite bottle, July 4, 2011
By bodo

Great product, functional and complete. The handle is ergonomic, comfortable and firm; allowing a couple of different hand and finger positions it is not at all tiring for the fingers. The pocket allows to carry small items and accommodate a gel; one useful hook for the keys is inside. Just one "con": once full, the bottle cannot stand upright because of the bottom strap

Awesome!, July 2, 2011
By Christina

I have used the Nathan Sprint handheld in training for some half-marathons, but am currently training for a marathon and needed to have access to more fluids for the longer runs. I tried the Nathan Quickdraw Plus, but am a petite female...it felt like the water bottle moved a lot and just wasn't that comfortable to me. I ran across this on Amazon (the stores in my area only carry the Quickdraw Plus) and thought it might work well for me since I loved my Sprint, and this is a similar design. It's awesome! I love being able to tighten it with velcro, and with a smaller hand, sliding my thumb thru the hole in top makes holding the bottle so comfortable that I forget it's there. For me, the pocket size is more than enough. I highly recommend it!

Great handheld, January 13, 2011
By L. Daniel (Durham, NC USA)

This is a great handheld. I used just one of these as my sole bottle in a 100K recently. Since that race was laps around a one mile course, it was easy to refil the bottle as needed. However, I could easily have done a different course carrying two of these. Since you don't have to grip the bottle, it is the easiest handheld for me to carry. Also, I love the clip inside the pocket for holding your keys. Nathan should add that to all their products.

Doesn't stand up, leaks, February 5, 2012
By Typical computer nerd
|

Pros:
*The bottle and straps seem to be fairly sturdy
*Pockets can hold ID, droid sized phone (NOT Droid Razr though, that thing is HUGE)
Cons:
*Spout is very soft which makes it tough to close securely, and if it isn't completely closed all the way it will leak constantly.
*DOES NOT STAND UP. For some reason they designed it so that the strap prevents the bottle from standing upright which is a huge pain in the butt if you use this outside of running. Add this great design flaw to the spout and then you constantly get your water spilled all over the place.
Wouldn't buy again...

More durable than basic model quickdraw, November 3, 2011
By Distance Runner
|
|
Lasts longer than basic model quickdraw, since in the basic model the straps are elastic and tend to get stretched out. The straps on this are woven and have velcro so they can be adjusted. I just wish the bottle was lighter weight. I have been using a "smartwater" brand 23.7 ounce bottled water, which fits in the holder, holds more water, and is lighter weight bottle.

great product, but I liked the quickdraw plus just as much, October 23, 2011
By E. L. Swenson (Washington DC)

I bought this bottle 1- because I live in Las Vegas and need to keep hydrated, even on relatively short runs and 2- because I was running a relay and needed water during stretches with no water stations. I used both this bottle and the nathan quick draw plus, which is similar. I liked both of them and quickly adjusted to carrying the bottle along. The strap on this one is meshy and more breathable than the quickdraw plus. The elite also has a nicer pocket and I think it's easier to adjust. But I think both worked very well, and given the choice again, I'm not sure I could justify spending a few bucks extra for the elite. In fact, I think the elite was a little less comfortable because the strap ended up rubbing *slightly* against my hand. But I have tiny hands, and it wasn't irritating enough to make me consider replacing it. Bottom line: it's a great bottle, and if you're not sure, opt for this less expensive one first.Nathan Quickdraw Plus Handheld 22-Ounce Bottle Carrier with Pocket

Great for running, hands-free grip, October 9, 2011
By krystle126

I bought this bottle while training for a half marathon. The pocket is great for storing my keys and ID. I like how the mesh anchors the bottle to my hand and is easily adjustable. The bottle is easy to drink from but doesn't stand on his own, which is not a big deal. My only small complaint is that after a while my hand gets a little sweaty and I have to switch it to the other hand.

One tough bottle!, March 3, 2012
By Jrunsc
|

This is a must have for any trail runner. Super practical and tough. You can fit several gels, car keys, s caps, etc in the pouch. Its like a TARDIS, bigger on the inside. I can also attest that the bottle is one tough cookie. It has taken my entire weight in several falls without the lid coming loose. Its not as awkward to run with as it would look if you've never used one. You can swing your arms almost naturally (especially when it gets below 3/4 full), though I like to change hands every few minutes just to keep from wearing out one arm/shoulder.
