Beautiful Pink Nightmare, June 3, 2009
By shogi (NY)

|
I've had nothing but Schwinn bikes in my life and until now they've never failed me. I purchased this bike and took it directly to a bike shop to have it professionally assembled. It was beautiful. No dents.. no chips.. big, thick, tires.. perfection. I picked it up from the shop and took it out for a spin. It was bliss. Then the brakes started squeaking. Then the rear wheel became rather noisy. I expected this from reading the reviews here. Before I bought it, I thought, "Okay, I can live with a noisy bike." The further I went, however, the worse it got. I took it back to the shop that same day. It turns out that the coaster break mechanism was binding in a defective rear hub. This is more than just outrageous noise. It's actually unsafe.
I called Pacific Cycle and they said they didn't know when they could send me a new part. They advised me to call Amazon. I called Amazon and they offered to pay for return shipping. Mind you, this is just a simple, inexpensive, one speed bike. I paid eighty dollars to have it properly assembled. Now I was looking at paying again to have it disassembled and packed, then another eighty to assemble a new one. Alternatively I could wait, hopefully replace the part, hope that it's the right one, hope that it's not defective too, and pay again to have it fixed. Or, I could take a huge loss on the whole thing, pay more to have it taken apart and packed, or just junk it, and pay again for a better bike and another assembly.
As of now, the bike lives in the shop. Amazon has granted me a partial refund, Pacific Cycle called back and said they've shipped the part, and I'm seeing the necessity of redundancy. I'm going to buy a Pink Cadillac bike and, if all goes well, keep this one as a spare.
To sum up, had I to do it again, I would not have purchased this bike.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: Thirteen days later...
Pacific Cycle didn't ship the part after all. In fact, they can't even say for sure when they'll get them in stock again. They've given me an estimate of three months. I'm going to pick my bike up from the shop tomorrow and bring it home. I ordered it from Amazon in May. Now I'm looking at 'maybe' having it fixed by oh, September?

Easy, comfy, very pretty!, May 13, 2008

Was not hard to assemble with an extra pair of hands. I love this bike! So easy, like the ones when i was a kid. I use this bike with a child carrier, and it is perfect. Nice wide cushy seat for the bum, allows you to sit up straight and leisurely ride, not hunkered over the handlebars. If you just want to cruise, this is the bike! Wide tires - even tho it's from China now, it still seems a quality, heavy-duty bike.

Love my new bike!, April 27, 2010
By Anonymouse (Here and there)

I had read reviews of other Schwinn bikes and was apprehensive as there were many complaints of poor packaging, and that the bikes were difficult to put together.
In my case, the bike was delivered in under one week, (FREE, thank you AMAZON) The packaging was more than sufficient to protect the contents. The bike required some assembly. The assembly was a little tricky because there were no instructions, but I managed to have it up and running in about a half an hour.
I am not an intense "cyclist" by any means, and I find this bike to be comfortable and cute as hell. As a bonus, I added the basket to thoroughly embarrass my teenage sons.

i purchased this bike and you get what you pay for. the spokes are not correct so the wheels wobble. the kickstand will not hold the bike up with a frontbasket on. the rear baskets advertised will not fit on this bike with the hardware enclosed.this is not schwinn quality you are getting.the fenders are little more than foil. it rides ok the brakes and rear wheel are noisy.i will be buying a atlas sun soon. looks pretty but is junky.

The great run-around, December 29, 2008

Schwinn Windwood Women's 26-Inch CruiserI ordered this bike for my wife for Christmas and didn't put it together until after the holidays. I wanted a Pacific Shorewood but it was out of stock. When I opened the box, I pulled the bike out and the first thing I do is pump the tires. The front tire would not hold air. It lost air as fast as I could pump it in. I contacted Amazon and received an "off-shore" answer which gave me the number and email address of Schwinn. Amazon doesn't stock parts, etc. I called the number and was told Schwinn was not responsible. I finally took the tire to a local bike shop and bought a new tube and had them install it. The original tube was torn and could not hold air. This is the worse experience I have had with Amazon and their affiliates to date. I have shopped Amazon for quite some time. Very disappointed.

My New Bike, April 24, 2008
By L. Steele (Arlington,TX)

|
I got pretty much what I wanted; a no frills Schwinn bicycle that I don't have to shift gears when I ride, and I can stop by using the pedal brakes. I was surprised that the bike was made in China; and that instead of each fender being a smooth arch from one end to the other, they have indentations on them.

cute bike with its flaws, June 16, 2008
By A. Lela
|
|
I got the bike, took me a little over an hour to put together. A little tricky, but I had my boyfriend help me out. Nothing too difficult. I was a bit disappointed to find 2 noticeable paint chips already on the bike, not from me. And the back rack looks like the paint had been sandpapered down on the edges. These were the only noticeable flaws on the bike itself. I was going to return the bike but ended up not wanting to deal with that kind of junk and figured it was a good price and it was made in china, what can I expect. The bike rode very nicely. I've had the bike for maybe a little over a month now, and if I go on long rides, my rear end hurts so you might need to get a gel seat cover or something. Also I've noticed an annoying squeaking in the back wheel. It's not the chain, it the wheel and I've tried WD40 and it didn't help but I don't know, I'll just deal with it. Other than these problems, I love the bike, the color is so cute and the style. I could put up with a couple of little problems. Nothing too serious.

All Show, No Go, August 26, 2010
By Art, Music, Book & Movie Enthusiast (Boca Raton, FL, United States)

There must be two Schwinns. One that makes great bikes and another that doesn't. My wife fell in love with the looks of this one at Sport's Authority and it was "on-sale" so we took the plunge. Initially it seems like a sturdy, uncomplicated bike. Everyone thought it looked neat and my wife enjoyed using it to ride the kids to school.
Living with it brought to light some flaws. The parts seemed cheap and the fit and finish was not what I would expect from Schwinn. The chain guard was warped slightly and the rear carry rack did not seem sturdy enough to carry even a small bag of groceries. After only a few days of use a squeak started in the rear brakes. And it is a heavy bike.
My wife uses to the bike to accompany our children to and from school. Today her front tire suddenly went flat on the way home. There was no puncture or other visible cause, and after inspecting it I determined that the seal where the valve stem met the tube was leaking. After three weeks the front tire could not hold air for more than a few seconds and I suspect there may have been a rough edge within the rim that cause the rupture. We returned the bike immediately and instead bought a more expensive Trek cruiser from a reputable bike shop. It is lighter, has quality components and feels much more solid. I feel more confident that this bike won't let her down on her jaunts to and from the school.
I have a vintage style men's cruiser from around 1995 that is still in terrific shape with all the original parts, even the tires and tubes. It was built to last and I really like it. The Windwood 26" Women's comfort bicycle is not a Schwinn of that caliber and I can not recommend it.

Cute, Girly Bike, November 18, 2009
By FryLady (Los Angeles)
|
|
I had been comparison shopping bikes at stores for a month and was amazed to see a Schwinn for this price. I needed a basic, simple cruiser to ride around the neighborhood with my family. I ordered this bike, my husband put it together within one hour, and I love it! We had no problems other than a lack of directions on how to put the front fender on, but we figured it out.
I saw some other reviews about scratches, dented fenders, etc. Yes, this bike wasn't perfect (a few small scratches and one place where the paint had a bump on it) but I'm not planning to keep it in a glass case in a museum, I'm planning to ride it. It will get scratched anyway being chained up to trees and kept in the garage with my kids' bikes. There were no major issues or missing parts. This is a pretty basic bike, but it is really cute and I get lots of compliments on the pink color. Even though it is very pink, I like that it's not too flowery or covered with additional decor...it's simple & kind of retro looking.

Needs to pack better, June 20, 2008
By J. Robbins (Central, Illinois)
|
|
The first bike I received was dented, scratched up and missing parts. Amazon was VERY GOOD about promptly shipping a replacement but the second bike also had a bent fender and some scratches, although, not as much so I decided to just keep the bike instead of hassling with trying to get another one again. The bike after I put it together sprung a "hub" (the round thing on the back tire that the chain attaches to) but I was able to fix this. After getting the bike together though the bike rides very easily and smoothly and the seat is very comfortable.

Buy it from Target if you can't put it together yourself, May 10, 2010
By Keith Walsh (Virginia, USA)
|
|
The round paper in the spokes claims this bike comes with "Free Assembly." But the FedEx guy who dropped it off at my house wasn't about to help me, so I guess that only applies if you buy the bike at Target or Toys R Us. But putting it together is fairly simple once you manage to get all the packaging undone.
The bicycle itself looks like a dream. My wife looked at all the stores for a pink cruiser style bike but couldn't find one. This, coming from Amazon, proved to be perfect.

Substandard Schwinn, December 20, 2010
By Overtrox
|
|
I always revered Schwinn as the "high end" bike, "exceptionally quality", but I can't support that view by the recent products received. Two bikes were ordered. Two bikes were returned with very similar damage to the carry rack on the back. Two more bikes arrived, one of the two was returned for the same reason. Amazon made the bike unavailable to me after returning twice. I kept one, and upon assembly found the bearing missing in the upper end of the steering column. Not an area one would expect to even have been disassembled after factory shipping, but it had been. The locking nut and clamp were loose, and the bearing gone. At this point I have to go buy a replacement bearing because I have been jacked around by Amazon for over 30 days now. Don't get me wrong -- they have a GREAT return policy, but that's not why I BUY, to have my order RETURNED!
It appears Schwinn has taken a turn toward mass marketing and low focus on quality. Very disappointing. Especially to my wallet. Could have bought a CHEAPER Schwinn at Wal-Mart and had less issues.

Schwinn Wins Again, April 28, 2010
By G. Moorhead (So Cal)
|
|
Took a while to travel across the country (over 2 weeks), so when it got here, assembly began immediately because my daughter's birthday had passed. Being the diligent father I am, I went right to the manual for assistance, but after a minute or two realized the manual was generic for all Schwinns; or at least it was far too complicated for this bike, so I chucked it out the door.
Other than opening the box with massive staples, and aligning the front fender, it was as easy as a ten piece puzzle to put together. If anyone struggles with this cruiser, I'd guess they need help with other mundane tasks like unlocking the front door of their house. Just pay attention to the pedals; there is a left and a right for a reason. 30 minutes to complete, and my daughter loves it.

Better be handy, July 17, 2009
By K. Mancha (Las Vegas, NV)

I bought this bike having not been on a bike in 10 yeras +. It shipped in 1.5 days double boxed. I am very handy and have built all my own furniture...however the directions where not even helpful. It was a book of 3 of their top models, not this bike. I didnt have (and you WILL need) an alan wrench 6mm. Buy it before you start! My seat pointed a bit upward, so you can sit upright instead of hunched forward. Very nice feature, the seat was amazingly comfortable. I bought a child carrier as well. Thought if I took off the back rack it would fit....carriers dont fit on this :( took me 2 hours of trying to modify. The fenders are thin but not cheap. Paint only chips if you scratch it like any other product. Was easy to handle and looks absolutley beautiful! When I returned it, the employee at the store bought it because it looked so nice and my mom is buying one later this week.

Call the Distributor to get damaged parts replaced!!, June 17, 2009
By Geoffrey Cross (phoenix, az)
|
|
This bike is awesome. My girlfriend loves it. That said, it requires a little extra work...
Schwinn does such a bad job packing this bike, that you are guaranteed to have scratched, chipped, and bent parts.
Amazon will only return the whole bike. We did not want to return it and go find a new bike.
The distributer (At least in our case) is pacific cycle. I called them up (1.800.626.2811), and asked them to replace the damaged parts. They were easy to deal with, and sent out the new parts (undamaged). I didn't even need to send the damaged parts back.
If you have the right expectations, you'll love the bike. If you don't want to go through the extra work, do not order this bike.

The bike came very promptly; was well packed and a great treat for me. Was surprised that the piece over the rear fender, holding the rear reflector, was slightly bent and chipped, but not a real problem as the price was right and coasters without hand gears and brakes. the only type of bike I can ride, are hard to find. Thanks Amazon. cmf

I wanted a cute bike that was easy to ride on the boardwalk down at the beach. It was easy to assemble, I did it myself in about 45 minutes. It works great, I got an adorable wicker basket and bell. I get tons of compliments on it. I did a lot of shopping around and you really can't get this style/quality of bike for much less. I have recommended this bike to my friends and they love it, too.

Excellent Purchase, July 17, 2010
By Wendy

|
I Love this bike, it is beautiful. I finally learned to ride a bike this year. At the bike class the instructor told me to select a 26 inch bike. There were two other bikes at my house that was not suitable for me, but my family insisted that I should be able to ride two different mountain bikes.
I went ahead and purchase this one because I knew it would be the perfect bike to allow me to ride and yes, it was the perfect choice.
So, for a new beginner this is perfect and by the way, receive many, many complements with my bike. Women love it. Finally, I have shown my family I could ride a bike.

A gift for my wife, June 18, 2010
By Cory (Sacramento)
|
|
I bought this bike for my wife. It shipped fast with free super saver shipping. Today I built the bike with about 4 tools in less than half an hour and tonight we went on a ride downtown Sacramento. She absolutely loves the look. She said the seat is very comfortable. She got a few compliments which made her happy. The front wheel turns very close to the petal so it can hit your shoe, but thats just something you have to get used to avoiding, like on all cruisers. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. You can't beat the price.

Beyond Words, July 15, 2010
By Gabriel Di Piazza
|

The "Customer Service Person" went beyond the call-to-duty.
I'm 75 years old and a frequent shopper at Amazon.
I misplaced my Manual (Senior-Moment) so a certain amount of the assembly of the bike was "From Memory"...circa 1950's.
It is *not* a one-person job...but being "Superman" I just improvised for a few *days*.
Really ...not much has changed. My wife *loves* the bike...cute-as-hell. She is near my age.
Apparently there is no such thing as *not* forgetting how to ride. I just bought her the TRAINING-WHEELS and
intend to surprise her with them *today*.

The bike came pretty fast in the mail. It was pretty simple to put together myself. The only thing I could say about the bike, is that the front fender came scratched and dented. I was so excited that I didnt want to have to deal with sending a 57 pound box back to where ever it came from! Other then that, I love the bike.

PERFECT IN PINK!!!, August 9, 2010
By Josette L. Romero (Newark, CA)

I have been wanting a beach cruiser so my husband thought this would be the perfect bike for me and he was right!!! I love everything about this bike! The color is not nauseating but a nice pretty pink. Shipping was super fast & was easy to put together (even though it says free assembly...not sure from who, the FedEx guy???). It provides a smooth ride and is very comfortable. Everything I could have asked for in a beach cruiser and more! Just gotta find a nice white wire basket for the front and I'll be ready for the beach or local farmer's market!

Bought this bike for my girlfriend. She loves it. Majority of bike was assembled, took about an additional 45 minutes for me to complete the entire assembly. (I have never assembled a bike before) Its a very good bike with a smooth ride for those just planning on flat road riding or thru a park of sorts. Might not be ideal if you plan on riding where there are alot of hills as this is a single speed bike. But all in all, a perfect gift and had enough pink on the bike for her to love it.

Very cute! Great "starter" bike!, July 31, 2011
By M. Dooley (Orlando)

This is a bike for my adult girlfriend who is only now learning to ride. The other reviewer's comments on rickety nature make some sense if perhaps you really want to put lots of miles on it, but we love it as is. Rides very solid and well for short neighborhood jaunts, no rattling at all. Plus, what it lacks in ruggedness, it more than makes up for in cuteness - it's a great looking bike!

I bought this bike after reading and rereading reviews. It is much harder to put together than I thought. I'm wondering if they gave a messed up handle bar for the one that came is not looking like the pictures. Also I was not able to figure out how to tighten the seat. I'll have to see once I get it all done - it's about 80% together now.
I'm not a bike expert. This is the first bike I've had to put together.

Schwinn Bike Windwood Women's Cruiser, June 19, 2011

I love my new bike but have two caveats - take it to a bike shop to assemble as we had two damaged parts. They only cost $9 but you need them and it would be a hassle to return.
Also - for what it is worth - the wheels are pink - not the red I thought - I don't mind but you might.
Enjoy -- a great comfortable ride.

Good simple bike, November 10, 2011

So far I'm happy with this bicycle. I had it professionally put together but the brakes still rub a little wrong. If the bike is in motion but you're not peddling it makes a loud grinding noise. I wanted a cruiser bike because I attatched a child seat to it and my 10 month old and I go for a ride together. For the money I'm happy.

The bike comes in extra packaging. It did arrive in great condition and the braking system is alot better to that of similar models. THis bike allows you to do some adjustments and to modify it(rims are ready to add front and rear brakes wired brakes) and will come with acceptable scuffs. The seat is comftorable and the cruiser has fine stincile markings that adds a nice look. the bike is alot better looking in person.

Not perfect, January 8, 2012

This bike had many paint flaws and was very dissapointed in the shape it showed up in, many parts where bent. Was able to bend some back into shape and the part that we coudn't bend back, they did send a replacement part, but that arrived with a paint flaw. Was hoping for a better quality bike, for this was a present for my Mom.

Junk, January 1, 2012

The packing was terrible. The fenders were bent, the paint scratched, cargo rack was bent, handle bar stem was bent. None of the bearings had been oiled or greased. This is not the Chicago Schwinn Bicycle company that had a reputation for quality. I will never buy another Schwinn.

Awesome Bike!, December 27, 2011
By Aprild334

At first glance, I knew this was the bike that I wanted. I ordered it right away. Unfortunately, beach cruisers aren't made for hills, and I live in a hilly area, so I have to load it in the car and drive to where its flat like the beach or around the lake area. Overall, it's a good bike. On my first ride, the brakes seemed to not work very well, but the 2nd day I hopped on, they were working fine. Putting it together was fairly easy, if you know what you're doing. If not, I would suggest asking someone who does or taking it to a bike shop where a professional can put it together. Eventually I plan to get a internal hub, so I can have the luxury of having gears. So if you plan to use this a commuter bike, do not buy it. It's meant for flat areas where you can ride comfortably without much effort. Unless you want to throw some money down for an internal hub, then go for it.

Schwinn Screw up Christmas, December 27, 2011
By Patrick McCrae (SEFFNER, FLORIDA, US)

Wish I could rate this bike 0 Stars, but that is not an option.
First of all, I ordered this bike in mid-November as a Christmas gift for my GF. I own a Trek myself and do a lot of trail riding in Florida, but the gf wanted something to ride around the streets with me so I turned to my trusted source, Amazon.
The bike was shipped on time and arrived in the first week of December; I let it sit in the box for a few days before I decided to build it. I took the bike out and undid all the zip-ties that hold it together in the box. I quickly realized the the front fork did not freely rotate like a bicycle should (it came with the front fork already attached).
After a frustrating night trying to fix the problem I noticed the fork was bent and would need replacing. I skipped over using the Amazon customer support system and found a direct number for customer support at WSports (where the bike came from).
Wsports was great, they immediately shipped me a new bike before I shipped the first one back. The second bike was sent from a local Florida shop to ensure it would make it before Christmas. I received the second bike around December 21st...still time for Christmas to happen! I opened the bike the day it arrived, expecting to find no problems...shortly after unpacking the bike I noticed once again that the front fork was not turning as it should. I'm a pretty sound technical/mechanical guy and am pretty handy with a set of tools...but just in case I was missing something I took the frame to the bike store. They confirmed my fear, the front fork was indeed bent and would not work correctly.
I contacted Wsports on December 23rd knowing there would be nothing they could do before Christmas...I am currently awaiting a return label to come via e-mail so I can return this bike for a full refund.
I should have known all along that ordering a bike on Amazon was a bad idea...there are many solid bike shops around Tampa, Florida that I regularly shop from while maintaining my Trek. I plan on taking my GF to a local shop this week once I get my paycheck and am going to hopefully talk her into getting a trail-capable bike instead of a cruiser...in the end I think it will be better that way, but Scwinn sure did do a great job of trying to ruin Christmas for us. Luckily my gf was understanding and knows where the blame falls ;)
End of story, I won't be purchasing anything from Schwinn ever again...there is obviously something wrong with either the production or shipping of this product..considering that the 2 bicycles I received were shipped from different locations my bet would lie on the production. The second bike even came shipped inside an extra box, but still the same problem.
If you want a cheap bike most likely will break even if you receive it in once piece, this is the one for you. If you want a quality bike you can trust to hold up while a loved one uses it, go support a local bike shop and your local economy. It might cost a little more, but it will be worth it down the road.
-EDIT-1/9/2012-
I am still waiting for WSports to send me a return label for this bike to be sent back. The first time I called with broken bike #1 they sent me a simple RF Number to write on the box and UPS came a day later and picked it up. For some reason it has taken almost 3 weeks for them to e-mail me a return label instead of an RF number. I have called/e-mailed them weekly and customer service now seems to be non-existent. Not only has Schwinn lost my business, WSports has as well.
I learned my lesson and will stick to Amazon for electronics/movies/books but will stick to local shops for everything else.

Love this bike!, May 16, 2012

I got this bike as a birthday present. It was purchased from Sears already assembled and I brought it home and the peddles stopped working after about 20 miles. We took it back and they couldn't replace it. We got a refund and I ordered from Amazon. There is some finesse to assembling a bike apparently and sears does not use bike specialist to assembly theirs. When it arrived in the box from Amazon we took it to our local bike/outdoor shop and paid $40 to have them professionally assembly it. I've had not trouble with it. This is a "cruising" bike. It doesn't have any gears so it's not meant for "touring" where you will be going up inclines where changing gears helps. If you are just biking on flat surfaces and small hills it's great. I love this bike and got a basket and a little bell to go with it. Surprisingly I thought I might seem a bit silly on this bike as a grown woman but I've received nothing but compliments on it :) .. Love it!

I love it! It's just what I thought it would be. The white fenders rattle a little bit but not too bad. I put it together myself (I'm a girl) and it wasn't too bad, but it took me about 2 hours! I had to re-do some things a few times but I finally got it right. Great bike!

Wonderful bike, great price., March 20, 2012

I got this for xmas, it was purchased from Kmart. I love it. It came assembled already for free. I ride it everywhere. I hated the 10 speeds, they don't work well in the country. THe seat is so comfy and soft. I got a cyclometer and a basket to carry my dog in. My son also bought me a rear view mirror. This is a wonderful bike. I don't believe the reviews that Schwinn doesn't give good support. THe basket was rubbing on the front decal and the weight of my dog bent the metal decal. I called Schwinn who are located in Illinois where I live. SHe shipped me a new decal out the same day. I had one of these 25 years ago and missed it when I was hit by a car. It is very sturdily made and good quality.

I Bought this bike for my 10 yr old. She's almost 5' 5" with long legs and it fit her perfectly. The quality of this bike is outstanding and was well worth it. Nice paint job and well balanced. Its not front heavy like I've experienced in the past.
