Excellent Canteen, and We've Tried Many, December 17, 2010
By J. Baker (Texas)
|
|
We have owned many water bottles....too many. And more, we've tried and returned several others. We currently have a Nathan non-insulated straw bottle with a neoprene cover (our #2 choice), several Klean Kanteens (love these so much, wish they had a straw version!), a Thermos Foogoo straw insulated straw container (pretty nice, but a little picky about how you handle it), another Klean Kanteen with sippy lid (great when it doesn't leak!! Be sure to double check the lid before handing it to kids!) and the Thermos Funtainer (looks just like Foogoo, but made much worse. Don't bother with this one!)
Anyway, out of all the containers we've read about and tried and owned, I like this Camelbak the best. It's pleasant to use. I was unsure if my 1 yr old (always breastfed, never had a bottle) would understand the bite valve right away, but she immediately took to it. It's well-made, has available replacement parts, fits in the BuiltNY sleeve for added cushion/insulation and best, DOES NOT LEAK. If you leave the valve upright, it will drip very slowly. But, when closed, it's completely sealed.
I'm sold. When it comes time to replace any of our larger canteens, this is what I expect I'll purchase, in the larger size.

Great water bottle!, June 3, 2010
By E. DeFreitas (Concord, NH)
|
|
I purchased 2 camelbak bottles for my kids after a cheap sippy flipped open in the diaper bag and water ran down my leg and into my shoe! We love them! I've never had a leak or mold problem, although I do hand wash and gently remove valve and reposition after drying. I chose the camelbaks because my one year old prefers straw sippys over tip ones. She easily mastered the squeeze and sip feature. I would however recommend a bottle cover, as the bottle will be VERY cold once filled with ice water. I couldn't find a camelbak in the smaller size, so I went with the Built Thirsty Tote for baby bottles and it's a perfect fit!

Bad product, November 25, 2009
By C. Anderson (The Woodlands, TX)

We have owned this bottle for about 2 months now and mold is growing under the lip of the bottle where the plastic attaches to the stainless steel. This is not an area we can clean throughly and I am throwing the bottle away. For $20 I expect more.

Can fit a stainless straw, April 2, 2011
By New Englander
|
|
I really wanted to go plastic-free for my kindergarten-age son, but I also needed something he could work completely by himself at school (and that wouldn't leak). This has a plastic top, but the bite valve is silicone. It does not leak. And I replaced the interior plastic straw with one of the "short, fat" stainless straws sold here on Amazon. The short, fat straws are a very tiny bit wider than the straw that came with the cup, but they still fit just fine into the bite valve.
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because it contains plastic. I also find the bite valve to be a little difficult to clean. It cleans just fine in my dishwasher. No problems there. However, when we're on the go and I want to just rinse it out and refill it, the bite valve will often retain the flavor of the previous drink. In this way, it's not so great for rinse-and-go situations.

Amazon should sign out where does the product made from.
I don't trust the food container which made in china.
If I know about that, I don't buy it. and I don't need to return.
I don't like to return any stuff...don't have such time to doing that.

great bottle for kids, easy to clean, January 2, 2011
By Mom of two boys (Virginia)
|
|
This is a great alternative to the Foogo bottle. My kids love these and they are 3 & 4 years old. They are very easy to use and the kids love the dinosaur and pirates on the bottles. I like these bottles because they are easy to clean and they have replacement parts (the foogo bottles do not have replacement parts and are hard to clean). I would recommend this to any parent who wants a bottle to take on the go.

A 2yo can use it., December 8, 2010
By H. Coleman
|
|
This water bottle is great. My son started drinking from my Camelbak, so I got him his own. He's now 2, and has been using a Camelbak for about 8 months. He never used a sippy, just went straight to this. He has no trouble opening and closing the valve. It is easy to keep clean, too. I usually wash by hand, but I have also put it in the dishwasher without any issues. My one complaint is that the valve eventually cracks because he chews on it. I know it's not meant for chewing, but it's something to be aware of if your kid chews straws. You can buy replacements, so that's ok. After seeing ours, my sister-in-law also bought some for our 3 1/2 yo niece. She uses the plastic ones and loves them.

Good sturdy water bottle especially for little ones, March 13, 2010
By Teresa M. Jones-wilson
|
|
I bought a bunch of these and nalgene sippys one day after having what my husband calls a sippy hissy fit! I was so frustrated trying to find pieces to assemble a cup for my screaming toddler that I lost it. I was sick of missing and dishwater melted pieces - all which fit only one bottle - that I took all of my kmart/target/walmart purchased bottles and swept them into the recycle. This is a good water bottle and the top/bottom is interchangeable with the nalgene sippy tops (for kids and adults). This is really easy for little kids (mine is 2) to drink from and it is mainly spill proof. They have to bite the straw and sip so the straw stays mostly closed. By mostly I mean that any liquid in the straw (and the straw is big) will spill if your child is like mine and tends to fling/shake/turn upside down and squish sideways. I also have the nalgene sippys (that I like) but they are harder for little ones to drink from - it seems like they sometimes vapor lock. This provides more liquid more easily. I put it in the dishwasher anyway, although the body says not dishwasher safe (maybe the paint?). It has done fine on the top rack. Of course I wash the straw and sippy by hand. Basically a good buy and no more sippy hissys.

Leaks all over because spout wears off FAST, September 23, 2011
By Ivy (Northern California)
|
|
I have a mini-collection of kids water bottles, and this is one of my child's favorites. The drinking mechanism is very easy to figure out, flip out the spout and suck. My kid has a hard time drinking from bottles that you need to tilt up to drink. The upside of this bottle is that it is stainless steel, so no worries about plastics and BPAs in my kid's water.
My biggest problem with this bottle is that it started leaking all over after only a couple of weeks of use. In fact leaking is putting it gently - more like spraying as from a fountain every time I flipped up the spout. I found out from other reviewers that the plastic spout may have worn off, thus causing the leaking. So I ordered replacement spouts (CamelBak Kids Bottle Accessory 2 Bite Valves/2 Straws (Blue)) and, indeed, the problem went away. I was very upset by the fact that the spout only lasted a couple of weeks, but figured I got a defective one. Turns out I didn't - the new spouts also wear off pretty fast. At about $3.50-$4 for one, I can't keep replacing them. So now, when they wear off, I just twist open the cap a bit to relieve any pressure that may have built up, then twist back close, and only then flip up the spout away from face and clothes. RIDICULOUS!

good bottle, bad sippy spout, November 7, 2010
By Joyce (Los Angeles, USA)

the bottle itself is of very good quality, and the pattern is very cute.
but the sippy spout is not strong enough - it is torn after only two month's normal use. for 20 bucks, you would expect it to last longer.

Stainless Steel Camelbak for Kids, July 13, 2010
By Sarah
|
|
Great product. My 17 month old was always stealing my Camelbak, but I was afraid he would swallow the bite valve so I bought him this one and the BPA-free plastic one. He loves them. The valve on this bottle is still a bite valve, but it does not come off the cap like the adult versions do--it is actually inserted through the cap from the bottom so he can chew all day on it and it won't come out. My son won't use other kinds of similar bottles because you have to tip them to use them. He used straw sippy cups so I wanted to find a straw water bottle for him. So far, this has been quite durable and we take it everywhere. Good, safe product. Other reviewers said they have trouble cleaning this bottle, cap, and valve. I am not sure why. The valve and straw are easily removed for cleaning.

HArd to clean, July 16, 2011

I was excited to find Camelbak in kids productline, as I'm huge fan of thier adult bottle. Unfortunately, the kids model have really crappy design bite valve that's impossible to clean and dry. Not sure why they use such poor design, there's no way to reach inside even with sharpest q-tips!! Gwaaaaaa. I'm letting my kid use mine (adult model), because it's easy to clean and I know mold won't spread so easily. My kids valve had mold within a week, by the way. Return!!

LOVE this sippy!, April 14, 2011
By jessicakiehn

My 13 month old daughter LOVES this sippy. Chugs water out of it, loves chewing on the rubber mouthpiece. I love that it's stainless steel and DOESN'T LEAK! Holds a lot of water, too.
I have read and heard about mold growing under mouthpiece and got rid of our adult Camelbaks for my husband and I because of that (switched to Klean Kanteen) but if you keep up with it and take it apart and wash it semi-frequently, it's not big deal.
DEFINITELY our favorite sippy! And we've tried them all!

My girls love these!, February 16, 2011
By MickiMouse (So Cal)

|
We ordered 2 of these and on one of them the plastic slot for the water to come out was sealed up. So, we took a knife a cut a slice in it where it was supposed to be and it worked fine.
It took us a few tries to get it figured out - bite and suck at the same time - but once the girls figured it out they loved these cute water bottles. :) Plus I like that they are shorter than most water bottles so they fit in their lunch boxes wonderfully.

My daughter's previous water bottle was starting to leak, which is a serious problem when it is carried in a backpack along with homework and books. This water bottle is proving to be well-made and leakproof and my daughter is very happy with it. She also loves how the this bottle opens when she presses the button on the back.

Exactly what I wanted, November 19, 2010
By thinblu7 (Newark, DE United States)
|
|
I wanted a stainless steel bottle for my little guy to carry bottled water in. This is perfect. It's not any harder to clean than baby bottles were if not easier. The top separates into 3 parts: the straw, the screw on lid and the soft rubber bite valve that closes shut after drinking. You need a "straw brush" to clean the straw and you need to be careful to rinse and wash the rubber bite valve quickly depending of course on what you put in the bottle. We are only using this for water and are used to the Camelbak system so are pretty fastidious about keeping the equipment clean. The rubber bite valve is soft so if your child is given to chomping, he might poke holes in this but so far we haven't had a problem (you might want to buy a backup mouth bite just in case if it's available). The only thing I wish is that this bottle came in the insulated model that I bought for myself. Doesn't seem to yet so I bought a tubular shaped ice tray from a big box store and made bottled water ice "tubes" to put in his bottle. It works great.

The bite valve on this is different than the adult version, and is a bit more difficult to clean. However, it is also more kid friendly and not a choking hazard, so it is definitely worth the extra effort. My 3-year-old niece loves her CamelBak, and doesn't try to steal sips from mine anymore!

Great water bottle for kids!, June 21, 2010
By ME (Near the dunes, USA)

I bought this kids bottle for my 3-1/2 yr old daughter. She got to pick it out and of course chose the mermaid one. My daughter was not a big water drinker with anything I've tried until now. She takes it everywhere with her and she wants it refilled often. The novelty of it has not wore off yet. It cleans pretty well so far with the valve brushes. I have only put water in it. It fits snug in her car seat booster cup holder, too.

Gets Pressurized, November 8, 2011
By Lauren
|
|
We purchased this for our 12 month old and he took to it great. At first it didn't leak at all, but we've noticed that when we put milk in it the pressure will build up inside of it and milk will dribble out the top even when it is sitting upright- and it isn't a small amount. It seems to be worse when it has been in the fridge and then taken out. This doesn't happen as much when there is water in it, so I am assuming it has something to do with the specific gravity of the milk. This problem is magnified if you take it on a plane, so be sure to unscrew the top and screw it back on before giving it to your child otherwise when you flip up the spout you will end up with milk ALL over you and your neighbors!
It still is the best insulated stainless steel sippy cup out there that I've been able to find. I like the Kleen Kanteen ones but they aren't insulated and don't have a straw adapter, but we've never had any leaks with those. So when we use that we just put a coozy around it.

Just okay, August 17, 2011
By Joylvsu (Sacramento, CA)

I love Camelbak bite valve bottles- I feel like my family drinks more water when we use these versus other bottles... The only problem is that every single bottle we own leaks and siphons! I called the company and every one of their suggestions hasn't worked. I can live with this when it comes to our adult sized bottles but it's useless for my toddler. There is no way I can just throw this bottle into my diaper bag, even carefully standing it up in my bag has had less than desirable results. In addition to this, the bite valve will not stay closed and pops up every two seconds. I've tried rearranging the straw/valve but it still continues to pop open. Bottom Line: In would not buy this bottle again.

Nuzzle without cover?, August 16, 2011
By cr098
|
|
I was big fan of this bottle. I like the size and the idea kids can open it very easily with one hand. So I planed to use it for them for school - since they are aloud to use only nontransparent spit proof bottles at school.
Unfortunately the NOZZLE on the bottle is NOT COVERED AT ALL!
There is very cool button you touch to "open" the bottle. In fact, opened or closed, it really don't change anything - nozzle will not spill and it will get dirty anyway. So, WHAT IS THE POINT expect for it to be cool???
It may be ok, if you plan to use it in a car or at home. I planed to use it for kids to take it to school, but thinking how many germs would stick to the nozzle without cover in their backpacks with all those books, shoes... Disgusting.
Should I put plastic bag over the top of the bottle or what? It would take just little bit more of plastic to cover the nuzzle and make it more "germs proof".
I would expect people who designed it, to give it a try and imagine how will people use it.
After all, this is a good idea, but need improvement. I give three instead of one star just because it may work for some, but really disappointed me.

Great kids water bottle, July 2, 2011

Great water bottle for my 5-year-old. If the valve is in properly, it doesn't leak at all. Just adjust the valve when you fill it up. I highly recommend the Built NY Thirsty Tote (it's actually intended for baby bottles) for over this product. It keeps the water cold much longer and makes the water bottle easier to hold. Excellent Sippy Cup, June 15, 2011
By Annabell OConnor (California)

We've tried out a number of different stainless steel sippy cups for our 2-year-old son, and this one definitely fits the bill: it includes the all-important straw feature, doesn't leak open or closed, and it's not made of plastic... Wasn't sure about the bite valve, but he instantly figured it out. We will be getting more of these!

Great bottle and no plastic worries!, May 6, 2011
By J. Cho
|
|
Got this as a gift for my son when her turned 1. initially was doubtful that he'd understand the bite and suck action required to drink out of it but he figured it out pretty quickly. it is a bit tricky to wash inside the mouthpiece, but i do my best using a thin scrubber that i have for some stainless steel straws i have. another nice thing - my son has the habit of lifting up cups to drink (like traditional sippy cups) which doesn't work for something with a straw which needs to be held down. HOWEVER by removing the straw he's able to drink as if it's a sippy cup. i figure when he's a little older i can stick the straw back in again. can't go wrong with stainless steel!

I bought this bottle for my child because I loved mine so much. I have the .75 Liter stainless steel one, and it never leaks, and it's great. So I bought my 4-yr-old this one, and it leaks constantly. I do not recommend this product at all. I have tried taking the straw out, checking the little valve inside, retightening lids, etc. But it always leaks. Every single time, whether the straw is up or locked down. Very annoying.

CamelBak Thermos, February 5, 2012
By Maya
|
|
Was looking for a thermos-type bottle that did not leak when it became abandoned sideways by one of my toddler boys. It does not leak, keeps beverages cold for a long time, and they love the design. The only thing I wish it had was a rubber bottom like the toddler thermos with the silicon straw to help protect from dents. My 2 year old accidently dropped it on the sidewalk and it left a dent in the stainless steel; was disappointed in that since it happened within of week of purchasing the bottle.

BEWARE - disgusting mold!!, December 25, 2011
By Lulu Hill
|
|
We really liked this sippy quite a bit, until my wife discovered its dirty little secret. The pressure equalizer valve in the top of the bottle - a piece you would not normally remove for cleaning - gets filled with mold. She pulled it out after seeing darkness around the edge, and it was so caked in there, it was impossible to get clean. We are pretty appalled that we've been unknowingly having our son drink from a moldy cup. It ended up in the trash - STAY AWAY from this cup. The Thermos Foogo is a far better bet! Drinks stay ice cold (even milk), it has a leak-proof top, and there are no little parts to gather mold.

Great bottle that is hard to break, November 14, 2011
By Joe (Wisconsin)
|
|
We got 2 of these for are 1 year old twins. They had broken other cups we got to replace the bottles they had out grown. These cups yes are still like a bottle but yet they are also like a sippy cup. The twins drop these off their high chairs all the time with out any damage what so ever.
Also great for traveling as the bottle will not leak and the metal keeps cold items cold for a long time.

great bottle, November 4, 2011

My 3 year old loves this water bottle and figured it out without any explanation. The only thing I don't like about it is that when you put ice in the liquid the whole thing gets really really cold and sweaty and my daughte doesn't like to hold it. I wish it were insulated like the adult bottles. But the adult ones are so heavy when full my daughter can't carry them easily, I assume that's why they didn't insulate these. Oh well, it's very durable and easy to clean. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.

Functional, but not exactly leak-proof, October 3, 2011

I ordered this for my daughter's lunchbox. It was great at first, and she loves it, but after a few weeks it started leaking. Once the straw had been used for so long, it was no longer leak-proof. She still uses it, but just for car trips, etc, when it won't be on its side. We went back to the Thermos Funtainer Bottle for her lunchbox.

just like daddy's, September 20, 2011

I got the crocodile creek bottles before this (when they were not being made in China as they are now and the paint all dissolved off within a year. So tried the camelbak this time since my husband I have had good experiences with their products thus far. It was a splurge but worth it- well designed, easy to use and durable. The kids like it because it's like their Dad's.
Only drawbacks are that the bit valve for this is totally different than the one for the adult bottles and I anticipate that kids would chew on the bit valve and go through them much faster than an adult would. Otherwise Camelbak does it again!

Excellent product. Easy to open and clean. No spills. I have not tested it to see how long it will keep the drinks hot or cold.

Best lunch back water bottle for little kids, September 7, 2011
By vet & mommy (Houston, TX)

We just started pre-k and needed a water bottle for her backpack. This one is great because: it doesn't spill and is easy/intuitive to use - even for a four year old; it doesn't break (and believe me - it is not from a lack of her trying); it keeps water cold for long times and the mouth is big enough to get ice from the fridge easily. All around A+. The only problem I have had is that she lost one and I had to replace it and that makes it twice as expensive. Still, we have received many inquiries about where we got this because other kids in her class want one too - the ultimate compliment!

Perfect for our toddler, September 3, 2011
By Isabella baby

Our toddler loves this bottle. I bought her a Camelbak after always having to share my water with her from my Camelbak. The sipper straw is softer and more flexible than the adult Camelbak straws. The bottle has been dropped several times and can really take a beating. She loves it! The little bubbles are not a weird fluorescent pink like in the picture but rather a bubblegum pink.
