Pros and Cons after 6 months of usage - Get the neoprene sleeve to keep hands warm, November 8, 2009
By Researcher
|
|
Avoid cold hands and dens with the insulated sleeve CamelBak 0.75 Liter Insulated Bottle Carrier. (.75 size is larger because the bottle is larger due to thermal wall insulation)
Owner: 6 months of everyday usage.
Pros
1. The bottle keeps ice cold for 12+ hours. I only put 2-3 cubes in and they last me all day!
2. Bite valve and closing mechanism keeps liquids from spilling.
3. One handed operation (great for driving).
4. No staining in 6 months of daily usages. I use this for ice tea, red juices, etc and no staining thus far (also see cleaning tip below).
Cons
1. Not too big of a deal, but the bottle is "Hand Wash Only" (see cleaning tip below). [Please Note: The camelbak website says it is dishwasher safe, but my bottle clearly states "Hand Wash Only" on the bottom - newer bottles might be different]
~ Additional cleaning tip:
To avoid soap residue I use white vinegar to clean (about 50/50 with water) and let the bottle soak overnight with the bite valve and straw inside to clean and kill bacteria etc.

Excellent insulation bottle, July 5, 2009
By New book? Gimme!! (New England)
|
|
This is a well made bottle of stainless steel, and it really does provide excellent insulation. Ice cubes resist melting for many hours and there is no condensation on the outside of the bottle, sparing the annoying drips and cold hands to be found with single wall bottles. The Camel bite valve takes a bit of getting use to, but has the advantage of being able to be drunk from without having to tilt your head back, and gives a good flow when bitten down on. Wide mouth enables even large ice cubes to be added, so there is no need for special tube ice trays. The cap is compatible with other Camel caps, so you can keep the bite valve or switch to a regular screw-on cap if you prefer.

Compared with Thinksport and PureHydration, April 19, 2010
By sweetnessincuse (Syracuse, NY)
|
|
I spent about a month looking into good, healthy, easy-to-clean, stainless steel water bottles. My original purpose was to bring water/juice to work, but after being invited to a wedding on the US Virgin Islands, I modified my search to only insulated stainless steel water bottles. While you'd think that the market is small, with few distributors, I found more choices than I had anticipated. I ended up buying three different bottles -- the Thinksport (750ml), PureHydration (750ml), and CamelBak (500ml). So I can provide my feedback on all three since I took all of them on my trip and tried them all out. After purchasing them a month ago, I am still using them daily to lug beverages to work. Stainless steel is awesome and I don't have to worry about my drinks getting warm after sitting in my bag, on my desk, or in my car all day!
Thinksport: The body is slightly larger than the other two. Neither 750ml bottle will fit into a standard car cup holder. I've read that the smaller sizes may, though. I didn't see this as a problem for me, though. I think that because the bottle is slightly larger (probably more air insulation), the Thinksport kept my beverages the coldest. After a day on the beach (warmer than 90oF), in the sun, after more than 12hrs my water was still ice cold! I did not fill the container with ice beforehand, but I did include about 30% from the start of the day. This (to me) is amazing!
PureHydration: The main pro that I found with this bottle was that it came with two different strainers. While the Thinksport came with only the "tea strainer" (i.e. mesh), the PureHydration came with a "tea strainer" and "ice strainer." The difference: thin mesh vs. thicker strainer. The tea strainer works fine with ice, too. I haven't actually made tea (or any hot beverages) in any of the bottles, but it's nice to know that I can. And I certainly will try it out next fall (and update this review)! Personally, I do not think that PureHydration is worth the extra cost since it is so similar to Thinksport (which costs half the price and has free shipping).
CamelBak: This one is a little bit different from the two others. I like it. I like that there is a straw and I like that it seems very durable. The bottle itself is actually very durable! I got into an ATV accident with the bottle strapped to the front. After rolling twice through brush/small trees, the bottle was not harmed (a little scratched). I had read a review earlier that the stainless steel bottles can crack when they are dropped, and this is clearly not the case with the CamelBak! I should also say that I've dropped the other two bottles on wood and ceramic floors without damaging the floors or bottles. I didn't do it on purpose -- I'm just a little clumsy. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend since it is convenient to have the straw feature, and it slips nicely into backpacks.

Wonderful, but um... not on a plane, October 7, 2009
By Steven R. Mocarski (New York, NY)
|
|
I absolutely love this bottle. I accidentally got the 750ml uninsulated version first (which looks almost identical), which is nice but for me -- I love my water cold and the insulated version is worlds better for that. I've only had this a few weeks, but I've had it out all day in the 100 degree Arizona heat, just lugging around the office -- all great. The mechanism is a bit unusual but brilliant (I've gotten a few odd looks in the office, but hey -- I'm hydrated). I especially like that bite piece twists off for easy cleaning.
My only complaint -- which is more my fault than the bottle -- is that you shouldnt take this on a plane with water in it. I should know better than to be clever before 6am, but this morning I bought a 500ml bottled evian inside the airport, put it into my beloved CamelBak to keep it cold and boarded the plane. Take off and the water gently escapes as the pressure between the inside and outside of the bottle equalizes -- in a nutshell, the bottle did exactly what it was supposed to do -- only it was my now moist copy of this week's Economist that enjoyed the easy to use suction mechanism. Lesson learned.

Fantastic!!!, July 30, 2009
By "Meg" (MA, US)

Finally, a bottle that keeps my water cold and my desk/hands/everything else dry!
I have other Camelbaks and I love the no spill 'sippy top' thing...but this is SOO good...my ONLY complaint is that because it is insulated it only holds 16 oz (compared to the usual 24 oz of the same (exterior) sized bottle from the company...but I'm happy with it anyway. Definitely worth the money :)

Best Water Bottle I've Owned for HOT Climates, August 13, 2010
By John (Iowa)
|
|
I've only had this bottle for a few months now, but it seems almost indestructible. The stainless steel has acquired a few scratches through use, but nothing major, and the insulation keeps my water COLD. I usually drop 2-3 ice cubes in it in the morning, then fill the rest with cold water. I live in South Texas, and this bottle has kept water at refrigeration-like temperatures inside my closed car in the middle of summer for up to four hours or so. Just carrying it around, it'll stay ice cold all day and into the evening. And the outside layer remains comfortable, doesn't sweat, etc.
The drinking mechanism works well for biking, since I don't have to lift the bottle into my line-of-sight to drink through the straw (though the straw can be removed). The loop on the top also protects the bite valve from dust and dirt when closed and provides a handy carrying loop.
As a double-walled bottle, it's a little heavier than the plastic ones, but for hot climates, I've yet to find a water bottle as practical, as effective, or as easy to use as the Camelbak Insulated. When this one fails someday, perhaps far in the future, I'll be going out to buy another...
Additional Nice Features: The bottle opening fits standard water purifiers to be used on the trail, and the hook loop works well with caribiners to hang from daisy chains on packs or other gear. Oh, and the top drinking mechanism (bitevalve, straw, bottle top assembly is machine washable). Efferdent tablets provide a good cheap means of cleaning the inside of the bottle itself.

Doesn't fit in car cupholders, March 7, 2010
By JF4 (Stamford, CT USA)
|
|
I agree with all the positives listed in the other reviews. But I feel I should warn anybody planning to use this in their car that it doesn't fit in a standard cupholder. Also, I don't like how large the bite valve is. It is quite uncomfortable for my little mouth to open so large to take a sip of water. I gave it to my husband, but he doesn't like that it won't fit in his cupholders either. Sadly, though I was quite excited to have this item, it is just so much more convenient for me to drink out of other water bottles with smaller straws that fit in my car. Thermos makes a good one that is also insulated. I will probably end up donating this to Goodwill.

Really like this water bottle, October 19, 2009
By Erin L. Souder (Indianapolis)
|
|
All in all this is a great water bottle. It keeps water cold, doesn't sweat, looks good, and works well. Now that it is here, it doesn't seem like it holds much water. I am always wishing I had more. Also you have to put a fair amount of bite down pressure on the straw to get water out. I think it is aggravating my TMJ issues. Hopefully the straw with soften up with more use. One other thing to be aware of is that if your teeth are sensitive to cold, this might not be the water bottle for you. When I bite down on the straw sometimes the cold bothers my teeth and I don't have overly sensitive teeth. A great water bottle, but may not be the best one for everyone.

Ouch!, November 17, 2009
By Donna Warnock (Oakland, CA USA)
|
|
I never suspected a thermos to hurt, but this one does. It's straw ludicrously requires sustained biting to keep it open so liquid will flow. It's a nightmare for this TMJ sufferer, but would be a nuisance for anyone. Too bad, because it's insulated, a reasonable size, lightweight, and the straw is nice and thick for the smoothies I wanted to drink from it, and I've yet to find anything else that fits all those requirements.

Definitely Keeps it Cold for Hours, December 14, 2009
By David M. Merritt (Abilene, TX USA)
|
|
I made the switch to stainless steel bottles about a year ago. I purchased a 27-ounce Klean Kanteen Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Water Bottles, and a Built NY neoprene tote Built Neoprene 20-Ounce Capacity Bottle Tote, Black to help insulate the bottle. (The 20-ounce tote fits the 27-ounce bottle perfectly. The water stayed cool for a while, but I was not too impressed. Still, I used this combination bottle/tote for a year, until about a month ago, I saw this CamelBak insulated bottle, and decided to give it a go. I fill it up with cold water, and six hours later it's still cold. I am very impressed. I usually drink the water gone within a few hours, but on those occasions that I don't, it's good to know that the water will stay cold longer. The insulation is so good, if I fill it up with filtered water from the tap at night, then put it in the fridge, the next morning the water is not completely cold. Therefore, I now always make sure to fill it up with cold water at night before I put it in the fridge.
Regarding the bite valve: As soon as I tried using the bite valve to drink from the bottle, I didn't like it. Personal opinion. Some may like the valve to drink from, and others might not. So for me, I just took the valve off, and I have no problem drinking directly from the little stub-like hard plastic straw (this is what the valve attaches to). I even threw the valve away, since I didn't need it.
Great bottle. Great insulative quality.

Great product, great product customer service, July 1, 2010

I just got this today and had never used one of these before. I was baffled why I couldn't sip out of it...looked up the company website, gave them a call...got to talk to someone pretty quick who was very friendly and professional. Turns out that since these things are mass produced...and there is a machine that scores the plastic mouth piece, my just didn't get scored deep enough. He had me press into it with my finger nail and it popped open. Works like a charm now. I already love it!

Good insulator overall but lid could be better, July 2, 2011
By mel
|
|
PROS:
- The bottle is a good insulator; keeps drinks cold for a good 8+ hours, at least.
- Wide opening, so you can add ice cubes to your drink.
CONS:
- Heat is exchanged quite readily through the lid (in particular, if you are storing cold drinks, then there is quite a bit of condensation on the lid, and this can get other stuff nearby wet)
- The valve sometimes leaks -- usually this only happens if you throw it in a bag, and it gets thrown around with other stuff.
- The lid is hard to clean. The grooves on the lid collect dirt, bacteria, and whatever else it comes in contact with. You need to jam some q-tips in there and really pull it around the grooves a few times.
- This does dent if you drop it (with water inside) on hard dirt or cement, but it might be unreasonable to expect no damage.

Great Product, July 20, 2010
By bookish mother (Coronado, CA)

My 11 year old daughter has been using this for about 9 months to take water to school, sports, and camps. It does a nice job keeping water cold in Southern California for eight hours and up. There are still ice in it at the end of the day. Great design. The top is large enough to put regular ice cubes in. The drink spout is spill proof and easy to use with one hand, the loop gives you something to hook onto and hold so your hands don't get cold. Easy to clean. I clean it every day after school, once a week I soak the top and bite piece in white vinegar to disinfect. I purchased it at a local sporting good store about a year ago and thought it was pricey for a water bottle but it's definitely worth it. I'm going to purchase another one for my son.

Beware the logo., September 17, 2010
By Adam B. (Sonoma County, CA)
|
|
I bought this bottle for use at work specifically because it won't get condensation and therefore I don't have to worry about leaving a ring on my wood desk. It definately does a great job keeping liquids cold. I left work with ice in the bottle and returned 16 hours later to find the ice still there. Using the bite valve took a day or so to get used but now it seems natural. I do want to point out one thing and this is the reason I'm not giving a five star rating because everything else is exactly as decribed. If you look at the picture you can see a little bit of the wave pattern around the Camelbak logo. What you don't see is that the pattern is repeated on the opposite side of the bottle. It's 4-5 inches high and I don't really like it's look. At the time of purchase another pattern was available for a few dollars more and I would have paid the extra for the different pattern had I known.

THIS ROCKS, March 10, 2010
By JD (Lewisville, TX United States)

After many $$ and false starts, I've finally found a water bottle that I love! This bottle stays at my office, and it's clean, simple, and doesn't take much desk space. But, the real selling points are that there is no metallic smell or taste, its durable, and--after 24 hours, my water still had ice in it (this was a small test). I'm not crazy about that bite-n-sip straw apparatus, so I use the classic top. I do wish Camelbak had a top that you could open/close, much like some travel coffee mugs have. But, all in all, good choice. As an aside--I have discovered that a very simple say to clear stainless steel containers (a thermos, for instance) is to put a bit of automatic dishwasher liquid in some water, then heat that water in a microwavable cup/container. Once it's heated to boiling, pour this mixture into the stainless steel item and let it sit for a few minutes. Be sure to swirl it around, and shake gently. Then rise. Clean as a whistle. (Works on stained plasticware, too!)

This water bottle keeps water cold for 8-10 hours. I just throw in a few ice cubes in with the water. It's light yet very durable. The folding straw is great too. I wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago. The price difference between the non insulated and this bottle is very worth the few extra dollars.

Camelbak Stainless Steel 0.5-liter "better" thermal bottle, October 2, 2009
By Safety Pro (Huntsville, AL, United States)
|
|
Small dent on lower rim of bottle (probably a manufacturing defect) but it doesn't seem to affect performance. Therefore I don't care.
Wide opening allows me to put ice in before adding water. Bite valve works great. Water stays cool a number of hours in my office setting. I chose to add a Velcro fastener strap at the loop near the bite valve. Many of my office friends have admired the bottle.

This SS insulated water bottle is the best one-I could not find any other product that performs better after much research. I put ice and water in it on saturday morning and on sunday morning there was still ice in it. I put a camera strap on the loop and it goes everywhere with me now without having to be carried in my hands. Outstanding product, and we are glad we purchased this product.

Favorite Water Bottle!, March 16, 2011
By lucky mom (sunny florida)

This is my favorite water bottle! Our family has several types of bottles and this by far exceeds them all. After an entire day in the sun watching a tennis tournament, there were still unmelted ice cubes in the bottom of my bottle. My drink was icy cold and the bottle was in the direct sun. Best of all, the bottle was not sweaty on the outside. After many uses, there is no odor or aftertaste lingering either.

Love it!, March 2, 2011

I've had my bottle for about 6 mths now and LOVE that it keeps my drinks cold. It keeps my drinks cold for an entire day. I also like that it doesn't spill, even when the spout is up. I've dropped my bottle multiple times without issues. The only issue I have is that the spout is a bit hard to clean - I just soak in water with a couple of drops of bleach & use a Q-Tip to clean the crevices. I just wish they had a larger size.

A great bottle! But I'd like it a little larger, June 16, 2010
By Carrie Waterston (Nashville, TN)
|
|
Hey folks, thought I'd throw in some two cents since I bought this bottle after reading its Amazon reviews. I'll agree it's terrific in a lot of ways - keeps your water COLD for a long time, has interchangeable parts, etc. However, it's a little smaller than I expected. I can get an 8-oz can of cola plus a few ice cubes in this with no problem, but I'd really like a little larger option to carry water for a long car trip, a day hike, or etc. It'd be great if Camelbak would make this in the .75 or even 1 liter size (but then it'd likely be pretty heavy and cumbersome, I have to admit.)
This bottle looks really good. It's clearly well-made, which justifies the relatively high price tag. It took me a little while to get the hang of the bite valve - I find if I swivel it over to the corner of my mouth so I can get a little molar on it I get a better flow out of it. I do like the plastic hook at the top, which makes carrying it much easier. Also, having the straw in it means you don't have to throw your head way back to get at whatever is in the bottom of the bottle.
The Better Bottle actually *does* fit in my car cupholder - not all the way down into the bottom, but I get a secure fit, which stops it from sliding all over the place.
It's a little heavy, probably close to a pound once it's full of water and ice. Honestly, I've been using it quite a bit around the house as it keeps my drinks cold and it won't spill if my cats tip it over, a real problem in my household :) Anyway, I'd definitely recommend it for house or yard work, or anywhere you can easily refill it, but due to the size I'm not so sure I'd go with this option for a day hike.
For that I'd probably buy a Nalgene hydration pack or even a midsize Thermos bottle - they make them in all sizes. Including one that's about the size of a Better Bottle that retails here on Amazon for about $24: Thermos Stainless-Steel 22-Ounce Leak-Proof Hydration Bottle. I have this Thermos also and it's a pretty good option for a bottle this size without a bite valve (it has a cap that clips onto it, another good idea.)

Very good bottle., March 19, 2010
By S. Penick (Campbell, CA USA)
|
|
Pros: Good solid, sturdy water bottle that is stainless steel and is bpa-free. Keeps water very cold all day long. Does NOT "sweat" at all. Does not leak as long as you close the valve when you're done drinking. I've had no issues drinking out of it and my 18 month old loves using the bite valve. I've also had no problems with the design on the bottle wearing off, as has happened far too easily with other metal bottles. It is not dishwasher safe, but is easy to clean by soaking overnight in a water/vinegar mixture. I also only use it for water, so I don't have to clean it too often.
Cons: It's a little on the heavy side, doesn't fit in the cup holders in my car (but it does fit in the ones in my hubby's car), and it doesn't hold as much water as I would like. I'm considering buying one of the larger bottles, but Camelbak doesn't offer them insulated, which is a big plus for me since it keeps the water cold, and prevents condensation from forming on the outside of the bottle.
All in all, a great bottle that I love for most occasions, but I'll probably need a second bottle for the times when I need more water, or a lighter bottle.

I use this bottle every day. Ice keeps in it all day long, regardless of the temperature. It doesn't leak, even when laying on its side. The thing I abolutely love about it though is that it doesn't sweat. It can sit on my desk all day long with no threat of ruining anything. I would recommend it 110%.

Easy to open with one hand and drink as my other arm is always being occupied with a dear baby. So I am glad I chose Camelbak and not the Klean Canteen because it would have been a 2 hand operation. A plus is that my 2 kiddos can drink out of it and I can let them use it in the car without fear of a great mess. Water does taste better and more refreshing cold. It does say not for hot liquids. What, no hot chocolate for a cold day outing?

Great water bottle, August 6, 2011
By ekj

I recently purchased the insulated camelbak bottle for my boyfriend. I have one and he also wanted one. The bottle is great because it keeps water and other liquids cool when the temperature is warm outside. We use them all the time and don't leave home without them. I added a clip and clip it to my bag to take anywhere. We use them when we go on walks or runs or out to shop.

Perfect for cold drinks all day!, July 21, 2011
By cutey
|
|
This water bottle is perfect for keeping your drink cold all day! I use mine daily and I just put 5-6 ice cubes in it each morning and they will last me all day! We did a test to see how long ice would stay frozen (without water) we came back 5 hrs later and flipped the water bottle over, I do not exagerate when I say not a single drop of water came out! However when you do add water the ice melts faster if the water isnt cold. I thought the mouth piece would be weird but its actually very convienient because its hand free. The mouth piece is also very easy to remove and wash. This is a terrfic water bottle all the way around because it keeps drinks cold for many hrs plus it doesnt sweat a drop! My only complaint is that it doesnt hold as much water as you would think because the insulation takes up a lot of room. I hope this helps make you decison!

I love this water bottle, July 6, 2011
By Diana Delaney (Fort Wayne, Indiana)

Ok, maybe "love" is a little strong but this water bottle is seriously awesome. I go very few places without it. Keeps my water cold for a very long time, even in direct sunlight. The one hand drinking is especially helpful when driving. I've dropped it a few times with the straw up and it doesn't leak. Terrific purchase.

Perfect, July 4, 2011
By chauvesouris

In a nutshell: it looks great and funtions better. The straw system is easy to use - and if you notice that the precut slit on the top of the straw doesn't open completely, just poke it gently with the tip of a knife, and the slit opens up fully. Not an issue. The insulation works perfectly and kept my drink cold for over 8 hours. The bottle neither leaks nor sweats (which is terrific if you are carrying it in a bag with a book as I do). And the "handle" is perfect for finger, belt, etc. CamelBak makes great products; this is yet another one. Is it a little heavier than polluting plastic? Yes - empty, it weighs about 13.8 oz. Not worth bothering about. Recommend highly.

Awesome!, June 22, 2011
By Minjin
|

The Good:
Incredible insulation
Watertight
Doesn't sweat
Durable
Easy to hook a finger around the loop and carry around
Can drink from bottle without even picking it up from the table
Excellent warranty
The Bad:
Tip isn't easy to clean (I'm sticking with water)
Low fluid capacity (compounded by the fact that ice takes a day to melt)
Doesn't fit properly in my car's cupholders (had to do some modifications)
Conclusion:
Get it. It's the best water bottle out there.
Lastly, A Tip:
You know those stretchy rubber bracelets that are popular right now for promoting a cause (like Livestrong)? Take one of those that you are tired of wearing, stretch it around the bottle, and move it to about 2/3-3/4 the way up. Presto chango, bottle has more color and personality, but more importantly, your ease of holding the bottle just went up by a factor of 5.

Keeps it cold -- Perfect Size, June 21, 2011
By Jessica Leigh (Clarksville, TN)
|

I love this bottle! I take it everywhere with me. In the mornings, especially in the summer months, I put some ice cubes in the bottle, and then fill it up with water. I probably refill it 2 or 3 times throughout the day, and by the end of the day, the ice cubes have barely melted! It's perfect for workouts because the water stays nice and cool the whole time, especially with ice cubes in it. There's no condensation or a "metal" taste. The size is perfect, too. It's not so big that it's difficult to port around, but it holds a significant amount of water.

The bottle is pretty, it keeps water cold for a long time, even in a 90 degree yoga studio, it doesn't spill even if you have it lying flat/upside down in your gym bag, and it's fun to drink out of. It's pricey, but I love it.

Great Water Bottle, December 4, 2010
By M (South Fla)
|
|
I use this thing daily at work. The little bit of spare room I have to place it is in a black plastic saddlebag on a motorcycle, no a/c and no insulation to the saddelbag itself...in fact it probably gets more engine heat from the motor than I do. It keeps the water cold - cool for at least 8 hours in South Fla. I was impressed.
I fill it 3/4 full of ice cubes and then to to top with water and its ready to go. Seems pretty heavy duty too. Have not dented it yet.

By far, the best, November 22, 2010
By M. Salisbury (Phoenix, AZ USA)

I previously used another brand which, upon dropping, broke. Because of this, we made a change in our water bottles and purchased two of these. Overall, they perform far superior to any brand I have tried. The water is regularly cold, all day. It fits into car cup holders I have tried and has been dropped multiple times without breaking. My lid is slightly crooked however so I have to be sure to screw it on just right to ensure no leakage. Our other water bottle purchased does not have this problem so I am sure it is just a fluke.

Great Insulated Bottle, October 20, 2010
By Big D Shopper

I am very pleased with this insulated water bottle. I wanted something that would keep my drinks cold that wouldn't drip condensation on my desktop. It works great. It keeps drinks cold for several hours. In fact, I forgot it was in my work bag one Friday afternoon and didn't find it until Saturday night. The contents were still cold and there was one ice cube left! I would definitely recommend this to others.

I've had a plastic Camelbak bottle for a while and have always liked the setup. Yesterday I bought this stainless insulated version. Filled it up w/ cold water from my refrigerator when I left for work this morning (no ice). 8hrs later it's still very cold. Unreal, 5 stars for sure.

Great quality hydration bottle!, June 14, 2010
By Polarmind (Greer, SC USA)
|
|
I bought the Camelbak stainless steel insulated bottle to keep cold water in the office and when going out on long drives. The bottle itself is made of high quality steel and the top is interchangeable with other Camelbak Better Bottles. The bottle itself can only hold 16 oz. and is a bit on the heavy side so I wouldn't recommend it for taking it hiking or for extended walks unless you don't mind the weight. For that purpose I'd rather use my Camelbak hydration bladder.
All in all this is an excellent hydration bottle and serves its purpose well - congratulations Camelbak on another quality product!

I was hesitant about this purchase, since I have tried many different stainless water bottles. What a nice surprise! This water bottle, with a few ice cubes, stays cold in the intense heat of my car for hours. I can go for many small trips around town and not worry about lugging other bottles in to avoid hot water later. I will buy another one soon. Too bad they don't make one in the child size for my kids.

Cold all day!, June 5, 2010
By W. Ater (Texas)
|
|
I fill my CamelBak with ice and water in the morning (6:00 a.m.) and it stays ice cold all day. By all day, I mean I eat the ice on the way home at 5:30. There have been a few days that I forgot to empty the bottle when I got home. The next morning, there was still ice.
I am not rough and tough on my bottle, so I don't know how it holds up to the trail. I do know that I have finally figured out how to use the Big Bite Valve without getting a nasty first mouthful (this is my second CamelBak with BB valve). I simple bite the valve at the end of my last drink to empty the water. That way, no water sits in the valve, waiting and warming.
I also like that I can get replacement valves and straws. I loved my last insulated bottle, but when the straw got melted in the dishwasher, I was out of luck. That was when I found the insulated CamelBak - and so glad I did!

Best Bottle, Period., May 29, 2010
By E. Carter (Kansas)

This bottle is fantastic.
It's about the same size as the old plastic .75 liter bottles, but only holds .5 since it is insulated. The look and construction are great, and the insulation works wonderfully. A couple of ice cubes last all day.
Some reviewers mention the bite and suck feature being difficult, but if you've ever used a camelbak, you'll know it's not. If you had jaw problems it might be a problem, but otherwise it's a really simple design.

This thing is what I expected. I mean, it's pretty expensive for what it is but I kinda like the nicer things I guess. I mean it does everything it's supposed to do but then again, a five dollar water bottle does too. The little hook thing is kinda convenient. I clip it onto my backpack with a d-ring when I ride my motorcycle.

Nice Quality!, February 12, 2010
By DIY everything (Chicago)
|
|
Pro:
Very good quality construction.
Plastic loop on cap can be used to carry it or attach it to something
Kids love them because they keep drinks cold all day long
No problems running them through the dishwasher
Replacement parts are available
Con:
Have to take off "nipple" and straw to clean it, and be careful not to lose the parts
Not sure if the check valve gets cleaned adequately
Young kids don't have the strength to disassemble/reassemble. Maybe thats a good thing.
We were buying plastic water bottles for the kids every few months. Either the bottle or cap would crack or the gasket would get lost. The CamelBak should be cheaper in the long run because it should last several years. My kids can break anything and they haven't ruined the the CamelBaks after a month of daily use.

I don't leave home without it!!, December 4, 2009
By Monica Van Zandt (Charlottesville, VA United States)

Bought this because I did not like the fact that most stainless water bottles are not insulated and therefore the water does not stay cold. Not to mention that you have to unscrew the top every time you want a drink. Bought this in stainless even though I wasn't sure about spending that much money on a water bottle. I am VERY happy with my purchase. Water stays cold for a very long time, ice cubes melt slowly, no condensation, spill proof and easy to use. One of the best things I've ever purchased. I literally don't leave home without it!!

Great Bottle, September 15, 2009
By J. Davis (Long Beach, CA USA)

This is a great bottle. It is the perfect size and it keeps liquids very cold for many hours. I like the special bite valve cap and straw; it works well and does not leak. I also ordered an optional screw lid cap. Only wish there was an optional quick and easy pour-style lid as well. Bottle is not dishwasher proof; must be hand washed. Overall, a great product; highly recommended.

Excellent product, September 2, 2009
By Sweet Lotus Creations (Oak Grove, MO)
|
|
I ordered this inspite of some of the comments about the straw and having to bite it. I am glad I ordered it. I did not have any problems with the straw. In fact, my 3-year old and 2-year old grandsons did not have any problems with it either. That's how easy it is.
As for how well the bottle keeps liquids cold, it works great. I put ice in it the first night I got it just to test it. Left it overnight. The ice was still there the next morning (8-9 hours later) and, in fact, was hardly melted. This was small chuncks of ice, not big pieces.
The design is very nice. I carry this with me when I walk. I just hook my finger in the ring at the top. It would be nice if it had a lanyard to go with it but then I'm not sure I'd want a full bottle hanging from my neck. Nevertheless, it is not a problem just carrying it.
All-in-all, I would highly recommend this if you are looking for an alternative to plastic.

Excellent !! Insulated & Stainless Steel !, August 14, 2009
By J. Torres (Rochester, Michigan)

This bottle looks good and works well. Its the only bottle I've found that meets my everyday needs -- both insulated AND stainless steel is just perfect. I've kept cold liquids in it all day and they've never gotten warm -- even left in a hot car (oops). I also like the new camelback flip top -- it really is better than the former twist on/off top. The only improvement would be to make it in bigger sizes too! (I hope you marketing types are listening.)

I have tons of water bottles, and this bottle is by far my favorite. I fill it up with ice and water in the morning and even after several water refills, the ice is still there in the evening. I'm picky and only like drinking water if it's cold, so this has been the perfect bottle for me. Even if I just put cold water without ice, it keeps the water cold for hours! I would highly recommend this product!

Keeps ice for 16 hours, November 16, 2009
By Cole Seaborn (Dent, MN USA)

Another terrific product from Camelbak. I have used their standard water bottles for years, but wanted something insulated. This bottle fit the bill perfectly. If left alone it will keep ice in a drink for 16 hours. And a special bonus, no more condensation dripping down the side of your bottle. A little heavy to take backpacking, but perfect for in the car and around the house.

Stay cool with no sweat, September 8, 2011
By Paul Hagwood
|
|
So, you're like me, you want to use a bottle that isn't going to leech toxins into your water. But wait! That steel bottle you've been using not only warms to room temperature in 5 minutes flat, but if you live anywhere near the south, it sweats and leaves a puddle on your table, your chair, or on you! I just thought this was life with these new bottles. It isn't.
The CamelBak insulated stainless steel bottle does everything they promise. Water with just a little ice will stay cold all day in average temperatures. I haven't yet tested it in the extreme heat of NC, but anything is better than water that is hot after only a few minutes. Also, I've had the bottle on my desk all day and not a single drop of water left behind. That alone is worth it. I still have rings from the last bottle I need to clean. Now, nothing.
Ok, I know you think I work for the company at this point...but I don't. I do have a con. The bite valve. It's great for keeping water from leaking, but I don't always want to drink with it. Technically you can take it off, but it isn't made for that. There should be an option.
Honestly, I don't think I would ever use any of these bottles unless they are insulated and this is a quality product.
