About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike, February 12, 2010
By T. Heusler
I read a lot of reviews of other bikes so I was on the look out for problems. So far we have not run into any. The setup was very easy. Schwinn provided the parts laid out on a printed piece of cardboard and all the tools necessary to do the job. The assembly "manual" was a pictogram with few words but easy to understand. The entire setup took 45 minutes because I took my time and very methodically laid out each step. If I just jumped into it, it probably would have taken 20-30 minutes. A second pair of hands would have helped align things quicker. One hint I will give you is to make sure you tighten the seat. I thought I had it tight and after riding it a few times, the seat started to swivel. As far as operation goes, we could not be more pleased. It is extremely quiet! In fact I have to almost strain to hear it. It has more whistles and bells than we use (we just jump on and ride for a specific duration). You can set up a "course" where it get progressively harder then easier. My wife likes the fact that it shows the number of calories burned too. The only thing I do not like (but my wife does) is the over the shoe strap on the pedals. My shoes are too wide and it is difficult to get them in. If my wife did not like them I would remove them. I wish Schwinn would make it easier to get them on and off. Overall this is an excellent bike and we are extremely pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  As Advertised, March 28, 2010
By M. Stevens
Bought the Schwinn 120 Upright a couple of weeks ago. Took about an hour to assemble. Unlike some of the other reviewers experience, all the parts were in good condition. I am extremely satisfied with the product. It is very well constructed and stable. I am 6'2" and my knees don't hit the center console (unless my knees are angled inward, which is not how one should pedal). I am an avid bicyclist and find the ride very smooth and whisper quiet. I like the variety of programs included as well as the option of creating my own. All in all, this is a great product at a very reasonable price.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Arrived broken--twice!, January 1, 2010
By Ted Schaefer (Lake Geneva, WI USA)
The first Schwinn 120 Upright arrived damaged: the plastic on the rear stabilizer was in fragments. So we ordered a replacement, and guess what? The rear stabilizer plastic was also shattered. As a result, my wife and I question the durability of the product, so we're settling for a refund instead of another replacement. But the Amazon service has been superb--polite, instantaneous, and efficient.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good bike for the money, but beware of shipping damage, September 6, 2010
By orangekay (San Francisco, CA United States)
I looked at a lot of bikes at a lot of stores and couldn't find anything else under $800 that wasn't a rickety pile of garbage. This Schwinn stood out because it was virtually silent, most of its important parts were metal and the seat was easily replaceable with no special adaptors necessary. I've been using it for about a month now and can't say I'm disappointed with its performance in any way.

I think the worst thing about it is the computer. The UI is beyond incomprehensible and I honestly have no idea what it's even supposed to do. I just keep pushing buttons until it starts letting me adjust the resistance and ignore its continually blinking segmented displays. I'm pretty sure it doesn't measure much of anything very accurately, so I don't really care to learn more about its eccentricities. I have a watch and I know how to take my pulse--all I want on an exercise bike is a simple knob, thanks.

Just be warned when ordering from Amazon: it will almost certainly arrive damaged in some way as it ships from the factory in a pretty flimsy box that is held together with staples and plastic straps. In my case I didn't realize that a couple parts were cracked until I already had it 95% assembled, and there was no way I was ever going to get it to fit back in the demolished box FedEx dropped it off in. Amazon set up an exchange for me when I complained, but spending another hour disassembling it and taking a day off from work to wait for the UPS guy to come get it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Luckily, Schwinn/Nautilus' customer support is better than Amazon's, so I nabbed the replacement parts I needed for a few bucks' worth of shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  sitting pretty, October 2, 2010
By Mikie
My item arrived in the 2 days it said but the box was halfway torn open, tattered and distroyed. it had rained so now I thought my product had gotton soaked. It came via UPS. Well I read all the reviews prior to purchasing this as-well-as other models. I am totalling satisfied!!! It doesn't rock, it's sturdy, the seat is big enough for anyone and the post can accomodate any bike seat you wish to use like a racing seat for road bikes. My buttocks and knees did hurt though but after constant use and a little adjusting, they should be fine. So far the electronics are great. It plugs in so no worn batteries to worry about. I went from my bed, to the bike, and straight to the shower and to work. I have cycled for years but now I can ride all winter long and at any hour. There is no noise. Completely quiet. Just hang a bag to it for your t.v. remote and your Ipod and enjoy! Some people rated the setup confusing but if you have ever put anything together in your life, you should be fine. Just have patience. It's an Hr and a half tops! I'm purchasing another one today for my 78yr young Mom :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  initial impressions of Schwinn 120 exercise bike, March 4, 2010
By James Miles (usa)
Item arrived very promptly after placing order but it arrived damaged. Apparently this has been a fairly common problem shipping this bike. Amazon offered to refund the entire amount if I returned it. They offered a 30% refund if I kept it. I did the latter, then called Nautilus/Schwinn. They are honoring the warranty and sending me the replacement part necessary to repair the bike.

Otherwise, bike is operationally fine. Instruction manual for programming various exercise regimens is very poorly written. Twice I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with the Nautilus/Schwinn customer service people before I finally got the hang of it. The customer service people were very nice but actually didn't know much about this particular issue. We just worked together over the phone as we both read the manual and tried to figure it out.

I think I got a good bike for the money--really good considering the 30% refund from Amazon for the damage goods!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sufficiently good for its price, February 16, 2010
By saitomadus (New York)
Comes with necessary tools and took me only 45 min to assemble it. Seat is too wide for me to work out for more than one hour. Foot strap design is not very good, it touches axis as you pedal.Otherwise this is sufficiently good for its reasonable price for the purpose of moderate indoor exercise during winter time.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good bike, September 5, 2010
By V. Reed (Lehigh Acres, Florida USA)
I was hesitant to purchase this bike considering some of the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. Doesn't take long to put together at all. The seat is extremely firm so be prepared for a sore rear. I purchased another seat for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor placement of seat adjustment knob, August 9, 2010
By Spellchecker (New York)
I had read many of the reviews prior to trying the equipment out at two stores. I found the ride smooth except for one major, major problem: my calf kept hitting the seat height adjustment knob, which was positioned on the side of the seat post instead of in front or behind like every other manufacturer that I saw. Now maybe I have large calves (I'm a runner, not a biker) but even when I tried to position my legs away from the center, feeling awkward, my right calf kept hitting that poorly placed knob. WHAT WERE THE DESIGNERS THINKING!
I never have this problem on any other exercise bike manufacturers equipment. Nautilus, which is made by the same manufacturer, seems to have the same issue. Very strange.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Quiet and Functional at a Good Price, April 1, 2011
By R. Spoto (Phoenix, AZ)
This was my first exercise bike purchase. After some research, I decided to pick this one up. The 140 was one of the other choices, but the extra money for a color display and a few extra functions wasn't worth it. Around the web (Amazon and elsewhere), this model was the most highly reviewed and rated exercise bike in this price range. I got a great deal from Amazon on it, and so far am very happy with my purchase.

Packaging:

The box that the bike came in was a little banged up and dirty. You could tell it had been sitting in a warehouse for a bit, and that UPS had their way with it. That being said, I had no broken/missing items inside the box, other than some busted pieces of styrofoam. The bike itself was well packaged. The box that the display came in was squished by the heaviest part of the bike, but it was completely undamaged inside it's box. The whole package weighs ~75 lbs., according to UPS. The banding around the box was surprisingly loose, which tells me either the box was compressed (either in a warehouse or during shippping), or the manufacturer could use a little extra elbow grease to tighten the banding down. All of the hardware (screws, tools, etc.) are heat-sealed against a piece of cardboard. That was a welcome treat to most manufacuterers just throwing stuff in a bag.

Documentation/Instructions:

There are two booklets, one is for assembly and one is a user's guide. While I had no difficulting assembling the bike, the instructions are very basic. Only a sentence explaining the goal of the step, and some line-drawing graphics backing it up. The markings for the hardware (ie screws) in the assembly guide were different than those on the parts themselves. You could match it up with some graphics in the beginning of the guide, but I just don't understand why they don't match. I'm also not a fan of graphic-only assembly instructions. I know the "thought" is that it breaks any language barrier, however it almost always leaves guess work. That being said, they were generally simple and easy to follow.

The User's Guide does a decent job of explaining the use of the bike and the display. It could certainly go into much more detail on the usage of it, but at least gets you off the ground. It would have been nice to have more detail instead of just exploring the features, because not all of it makes sense "out of the box". It's certainly not rocket science to use it, but I'd rate the quality of the guide a 3 out of 5.

Assembly:

Assembly was very straight-forward, and was not difficult (even w/ the graphic-only approach). The assembly took less than 30 minutes by myself, and that's with taking my time. The wire harness for the display comes completely out of the post, and I recommend removing it during assembly, to make sure neither end falls too far inside the post to reach. All tools needed were included, and they even include two different tools that essentially do the same thing. My assumption is that it may be easier for some to use one over the other for different parts of assembly.

Completed Bike:

After playing around with the display for a while trying to figure it out, I finally got on the bike to start to use it. The bike is VERY QUIET, and I love that! I'm a "what's that noise" freak, and LOVE silent operating machinery!! It took a couple of tries to get the height and angle of the seat just right, as well as the handlebars. My biggest (and only, really) complaint is that the seat is not very comfortable at all. I haven't ridden a bike in YEARS (like, a lot of them...), so that may be part of it. Getting it the right height and angle for me helped a bit though, so adjust until you're happy. I don't know if the seat can be replaced by anything more comfortable, but I may hit a local store to see. The cup holder holds a standard water bottle perfectly, but it's kind of weird getting it in and out when pedaling.

Overall, I went the 4 star route. Would be nice if the display had a backlight for easier viewing in dark light, but that's not to say it's difficult to see. I also hope I'm not the only one that thinks it's odd that I have to plug my exercise bike in. The cord is a bit on the short side too.

Very long story short, I recommend this bike to anyone looking for a good bike at a good price!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Terrific biking experience, pedal straps not so good, December 11, 2010
By TZ (MD)
Love this bike. Got it during the recent Black Friday sale (1/2 off MSRP).

Setup: Setup was under an hour. Tools provided are sufficient to setup bike. All parts were in the box. Instructions were not great but if you can follow the pictures and identify the parts visually you will have no problem.

The bike has 12 programs and custom programs can be entered for 1 user. It is quiet, solid frame, has excellent resistance, tracks your heart rate and provides a terrific biking experience indoors. The price for the feature set is excellent.

Negatives: The pedal straps are not great need to be kept tight to prevent them from rubbing against the pedal arm during the rotation.
The LCD display should be back-lit but is not so it can be hard to see under certain lighting conditions or viewing angles.

Overall it is a solid 4 star indoor exercise bike that provides a great biking experience with appropriate resistance levels. I highly recommend you purchase the product. I am satisfied owner!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A really nice machine, May 27, 2011
By Steven R. Pocock (Houghton NY)
I really like the 120 so far. It's really, really quiet, very smooth, and for me, quite comfortable. I very much appreciate the 16 levels of difficulty which range from no resistance up to the heavy resistance I encounter on the very steep hills where I live. Just perfect to keep me toned for my daily commute. It was not difficult to set up. Instructions could have been a bit more detailed for the non-mechanically oriented, but for me it was pretty straightforward. The bike has a good quality feel to it, and compares favorably to the much more expensive units I utilize at a local fitness center. I am quite happy with it in terms of value for money spent.

My one disappointment was with the packaging, which others have also mentioned. It arrived with the rear stabilizer broken. This may have been perpetrated by UPS's rough handling, nevertheless, it seems that the plastic is packaged too close to the skin of the carton without the benefit of a foam protector and with the way boxes are abused these days, it's no wonder it broke. Fortunately for me, it was only a cosmetic problem, the main structure as far as I know, wasn't damaged. However I will be asking for a new piece to be sent.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Product + Great Price = Happy Customer, May 10, 2011
By Tamara
I was looking for a quiet, affordable bike that would give me a good supplemental workout on rainy or cold days, and this bike has definitely met and exceeded my expectations. It was very easy and straightforward to put together (took about 40 minutes) and the different circuits/courses pre-programmed in are great to give me a good idea of what the workouts that I can handle are. They also help me to figure out what custom workouts I create are best for me. For the price and everything I got, I'm quite happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  There's a lot to be said for simplicity., March 3, 2011
By S. F.
For the price at the time of purchase (about 300$ after tax w/ free shipping) I think it's hard to beat that kind of deal. I've been an avid biker for quite a few years doing numerous bike tours with friends but I was always missing something to hold me over in the winter and not being much of gym guy myself, I thought purchasing my own bike to ride at home rather than having to go to the gym would be easiest. I've had the bike now for about a month and a half (purchased in January of 2011) and have logged already a few hundred miles (I do about 20 miles a day) and so far, so good.

Initially, I had planned on investing on one of the bike mounts that convert your own bike into a stationary bike as I was looking for something small and simple, but after getting a notice about the discount on the Schwinn line of bikes and doing a bit of research and the fact that the bike was at least 100$ cheaper than any decent converted stationary bike I decided to try it.

One of the major complaints I saw about the bike prior to purchasing it, was that the assembly instructions were vague and difficult. Honestly, the instructions are kind of terrible but being a very mechanically inclined person myself, I really didn't need them beyond a simple guide so start to finish took me <20 minutes. If you're not mechanically inclined then I could see having some difficulties but personally, I didn't have any. The bike itself is really stable once properly adjusted and moving it around is a simple process too, as the bike is a lot lighter and more compact than I originally assumed. The seat is not my style, as I'm use to the smaller and harder touring/road bike seats but it's more than sufficient. The display/interface isn't overly complex either but I like the simplicity of it as I didn't want to pay an absurd amount of money just for my bike to mimicking biking through Paris. It allows me to just ride and get a good workout without having to deal with all of the extra frilly non-sense that would drive up the cost unnecessarily.

The bike allows you to set up User ID's and keeps track of your total work outs, total miles traveled/calories burned/average speed/heart rate and a number of other useful information. The pre-set circuit training workouts are pretty good, and the varying levels of difficulty allow for individual-specific workouts gear towards you're personal capabilities. The bike also allows for the creation and retention of custom workouts for the individual users too, if you don't want to ride the pre-set courses. The bike also comes with a water-bottle holder mount location (though u have to supply your own water bottle holder) which is a nice added detail.

My only real complain with the bike is that the foot straps that come included with the pedals don't seem to fit. When I wear shoes (as I hate pedaling bare-footed) the straps don't fit over my shoes well and the end of the strap gets caught where the pedal meets the crank arm. I just took them off and ride without the straps which unfortunately takes away that push-pull action you'd normally get with straps/biking cleats. The pedals seem to be standard mounts though so I'll probably just replace them with lock-in pedals that match my cleats.

Overall, a great bike for it's simplicity, functionality, and ease of use and for the price too, I don't think you can go wrong. Any questions about the bike feel free to ask me via review comments.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Price, Sturdy Bike, January 19, 2011
By M. Bishop (Lansing, MI)
This bike is relatively easy to put together, ultra-quiet and is built solidly. The programmed courses are interesting and motivate you to actually finish. The pulse-reading feature allows me to relatively accurately monitor my heart-rate to maximize the effectiveness of my workout.
It is strange that only one user can be programmed (to track your progress), and it is a little distressing that the resistance is controlled electronically; If something goes wrong with the electronics, the bike could be rendered pretty useless.
Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quality exercise bike for a good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good solid bike, incredible value, December 19, 2010
By Leiana Smith
Assembly was very straightforward and easy. My 15 year old daughter helped me put it together in less than 45 minutes. The drive is extremely quiet, but the beeps made when you start or make changes to a program can be heard two rooms away--haven't been able to find a way to mute them yet.
My wife loves the fact that it does not take up very much floor space.
Overall I've been very satisfied with the bike. It does everything that I want from an exercise bike and is much more convenient than driving into the gym.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Bike!, December 7, 2010
By Kent
We purchased this exercise bike two months ago and have been enjoying it ever since. It is used frequently by my wife, 5' 8" and myself, 5' 10", and we have plenty of room between our knees and the handle bar. It is solid. It is quite. And it is smooth. We have had no problems with it at all. I assembled it with the tools provided in less than 1 hour. We would highly recommend this bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  I question the quality..., February 7, 2011
By brandbll (MN, USA)
Well i have yet to seriously use this machine, and the reason for this is the plastic piece on the rear support was broken when we got it. Called Schwinn/Nautilus and now i have to wait another week or two to get the stupid thing. The fact that this thing didn't survive the shipping/packing without breaking makes me question how long i'll be able to use it before it breaks again.

It doesn't surprise me though that something broke. They packed it horribly. Lots of vulnerable stuff was packed up against the box's sides with no protection, including the screen! Get it together Schwinn!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Watch the height factor!, June 20, 2011
By M. Metge
The critical thing to consider with this bike is your inseam. Height is not as important. I am 6'2" with an inseam of 32" and the bike just barely fits me. I like riding it even though the seat is not the most comfortable. My wife is 6' with an inseam of 36", she cannot ride it as her legs do not stretch out properly and she continually hits the handle bars. The bike itself is very smooth and I can get a good work out on it. Assembly was easy. Just watch the long legs more than your height.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike, Poor packaging, May 29, 2011
By Randall
Like others that purchased this bike ours arrived damaged. The packaging is totally inadequate for shipping. Both Amazon and Schwinn were good to work with and we got the replacement part shipped to us quickly. Amazon gave us a $25 credit for our troubles. The part that was broken did not keep us from using the bike on arrival. The bike is easy to put together and works smoothly.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect for home bike exercise, May 7, 2011
By joseph (Chino Hills, CA)
I chose this Schwinn 120 upright exercise bike after reading many good reviews on this bike. Really I made a good decision. It is perfect for home exercise, because first it is super-quiet, second it doesn't occupy a lot of space, and last but not least it's cost-effective. I could workout while my wife watch TV next to me; it means the spinning noise doesn't bother her. It has a small footprint. It has a sturdy structure. I spent two hours or so for assembly. Not too much difficult to put pieces together but you may need another person to help you.

Pros: Superquiet, small footprint, sturdy and nice looking, bottle holder, pulse monitor

Cons: It would be better if it has a more comfortable saddle. After 30 minute workout, you might want to buy a more comfortable one. Electronics is kind of inconvenient to set up.

Neverthless, so far I am happy with my decision.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not Bad, April 25, 2011
By didoban (CA, USA)
Pretty easy to assemble (maybe 1 hour)
Bike is OK for me 5'7 180 lbs but if you are bigger than 5'10 probably too small for you
The resistance is more than enough for me and I can work a good sweat
The body of the bike is very weak so don't step on it or it will break.
Overall worth the price and does the job. Not impressed but not depressed either...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn 120 exercise bike, April 21, 2011
By arnold harris
I bought this just a few weeks ago as I always wanted to have a bike.
I did some research looking for a basic bike that had no bells and whistles, but could give me a good workout.
This seemed to be the one most often recommended.
So far, so great. It was not hard to assemble with my son's help and so far...it is working great.
I did talk to someone before buying it who said that it will not last through the warranty, so reluctantly, I bought the 3 year
warranty that was offered through Amazon. I hope the friend's words are not true, but she said it with a real conviction that these bikes are not made to last.
We'll see...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy to use, April 7, 2011
By Mike Z
The Schwinn 120 Upright Bike was easy to put together and all the parts arrived in perfect condition. It is a very quite machine and rides really smooth. I'm 6'2" and I fit real comfortable on the bike without any problems. I was recently in a car accident and injured my knee. This bike has been perfect for my rehab and physical therapy. The programs were easy to use and overall this bike is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn is doing the job, March 10, 2011
By Pat
I have been using this exercise bike for about 4 weeks now. It is comfortable, and relatively easy to move around and hide when I have guests. Only thing that I continue to struggle with is setting up a user and programming a workout. This is not as easy as I think it should be. If the programming was a cinch, I'd have given this workout equipment all 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great bike well worth the money, March 1, 2011
By Jim Lloyd (LAKE LUZERNE, NEW YORK, US)
Was trying to decide between a stepper and a bike as we have a very small area in our bedroom to use the machine. After reading several bad reviews about stepper's my wife and I decided to fo with a bike. This one had received many good reviews so we rolled the dice. The bike took me about 40 minutes to put together. I did it by myself. The bike is whisper quite and the controls are very easy to use. My wife is the primary user, she is 5' 3" and has no trouble with the seat or reaching the peddles. I am 5'7" and have no trouble switching the seat hight in just a few seconds. The seat is a little firm and we have considered buying a new seat but have been using the standard seat for now. We have been using the bike for about a month and have no noises or problems to report. My wife uses it 3 to 4 times a week for about 20 minutes to a half hour each time. There are many programs that a person can set the bike on but we have both just hit the quick start button and that works fine for us. Down the road we may try the different programs when we want a bigger challenge or to break up the workout if we are bored but I don't see that happening anytime soon. As of now we are both happy with the purchase and would recomend this bike to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect Exercise Bike for Me, November 19, 2011
By Marie (Midwest)
I wanted an exercise bike that I could move from room to room and one that I could adjust the tension. I am 5' 2" and this bike suits me very well. I assembled it myself with no problems. It took about an hour and 1/2. The rear stablizer bar has two gizmo's at the ends so the bike's balance can be adjusted. One of them was broken when it arrived but I managed to fix it myself. I don't even use the feature since the room I use the bike in is even. I can't imagine many owners needing to adjust the balance anyway. I think the seat is very comfortable but every one is different.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It is so quiet... I love it!, November 2, 2011
By AWD (East Coast USA)
I assembled it by myself, pretty easy.

I also bought floor mats for it, but I won't need them because this 120 Schwinn Upright is totally silent. It made no sound and has no vibration. I can't believe how quiet it is! I love it.

It has a very small footprint too! Only 20" by 32"!

Amazon is so right to bundle this with the Schwinn Pillow Top Cruiser Bicycle Seat. The original seat is kind of hard for someone who doesn't ride regularily. I can't wait for the pillow top seat to arrive.

Note: Don't use the centet piece/frame to climb onto the seat. It is just a plastic shell, not a stepper.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  No more resistance after 20 months, October 31, 2011
By Hiep V. Nguyen
I liked everything about this bike and was recommending it to everyone, until last week when I couldn't control the resistance level anymore. The LCD display is still normal and the buttons work but it doesn't affect the resistance. Schwinn should really control the quality of their resistance motors

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Purchase!, October 12, 2011
By bevvyboo (Tampa, FL)
This bike is easy to put together. I did it myself in about 40 minutes. Nice smooth ride and comfortable. Only thing I don't like is the instruction book for the programming is next to nothing. I programmed in Users but I can't figure out how to set the Course I want so I have never used it and always ride as guest where I have to program it every time I use it.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice product, NIGHTMARE ASSEMBLY, May 7, 2011
By poetrywmn (Westfield, MA)
The instructions to assemble this item are only diagrams, and poor diagrams at that. No written instruction anywhere to be found. It took me and my husband over 3 hours to assemble this bike, using the trial and error method. Apparently the mfg. must feel their customers have psychic abilities that they can use to help put this bike together. No where does it tell you how to tighten the seat down--I had to log back onto Amazon and scour the reviews and forums for that info. And, of course, tech support isn't there on Saturday, when I was assembling this item, only Monday thru Friday, from 9am to 5 pm (not helpful--I am at work during those hours). All told, I can only give this item a mediocre review based on the HORROR that was the assembly process.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I am please as well, August 13, 2011
By Peppermint Patty (California, USA)
I bought this bike last year on a whim, during the week between X'mas and New Years, when you feel the most guilt from the gluttony of the holidays and expectations for the upcoming year. I decided that this was something to help me with my New Year's resolution. In general, it was a good choice. It is indeed very easy to set up. I bought it for 250 bucks at the local sporting good store. Don't forget to buy a mat. It feels steady and has enough variety to keep you interested. The best thing is the compact size. I live in a small 1-bedroom apt and never thought ii can fit any exercise equipment, but this takes up very little space and I can bike and watch TV at the same time. My husband has also taking a liking to it, now he uses it for at least 30 min to an hour watching TV instead of sitting on the couch!! What a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice bike for a low price, August 7, 2011
By Artak (Morgantown, WV United States)
I have been using this bike for around a month now, and so far now problems. It seems to be pretty good quality product and was very easy to assemble. I was lucky, since the bike arrived without any damages. So far I love the bike, and the functions work very well. Also, the resistance level functions well. I tried the level 16 for a short time, and it is like riding up a very steep hill. I usually use levels 5 through 7 for 15-20 minute rides.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Buy for a not-so-tall guy, August 6, 2011
By Ray
This is a great exercise bike. I was concerned about how it would ship, based on previous comments. Mine arrived in good time and in great shape. I put it together in less than an hour. The assembly directions are very good. It works great and is essentially silent, which makes it great for watching TV. One interesting thing to note is that I am only 5' 9" (30" inseam) and I am on the next to last hole for the seat post.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  arrived damaged, August 4, 2011
By Mickey (Northern Virginia)
It was easy to put together except the holder for the front stabilizer bar was too small and I could not attach. I was able to make something so I didn't have to take it apart and send it back. It does the job but I was very disappointed in the condition. It is too big and cumbersome to send back.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice for $245., July 29, 2011
By rayj (Hummelstown Pa. USA)
I just got this bike this week. After reading reviews, I immediately inspected the carton and all contents. I believe Schwinn got the message because there was not one hole or tear in the box and all parts were there and nothing was broken. At 10:00 last night I looked through the assembly instructions and the next thing you know I began assembling it.....wasn't planning to, but once I started I couldn't stop. It took an hour, and I did it myself. Believe me, I'm not the sharpest tack in the bulletin board and my mechanical skills are merely average, but there is no way I could judge any part of the assembly difficult or the instructions inadequate. Also I would like to mention that I am 6 feet tall and 175 lbs. I believe I could be 6 feet 4 or 5 and still fit this bike. Seriously ! I gave this bike 5 stars based on my experience so far, but of course I need to see how it holds up quality wise. As for the work out levels, I cranked it all the way up to 16 and found it to be comparable to the Diamondback upright that conked out on me after 3 years. So, I am very happy with what I got so far, and hopefully I will get at least 3 years out of this Schwinn 120 also. (the Diamondback cost $440 3 years ago and this bike seems a lot like it.)

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent bike for short people, but defective from factory, July 28, 2011
By kberzkalns@hotmail.com
Bought this bike because my schedule keeps me from regularly getting to the gym & the drive keeps running over there for a short workout from being worthwhile. Assembling the bike took about an hour and I thought I was good to go, but after about 15 minutes on, I began to hear a clicking/knocking sound coming from the flywheel mechanism with each rotation... aside from being annoying, I'm not sure how that affects the equipment's long-term durability, thus after a few workouts, I have decided to return it. Here are my Pros & Cons:

Pros:

Cheap (Has heart rate monitor that works decently & decent computer compared to lower-end models)
Reasonably compact, yet stable
Easy to assemble

Cons:

For me, defective out of the box
Cramped (I'm 5' 8" and about 170 lbs., this bike is almost too small for me, and would be if I were 5'11" or so.)
Seat is hard
Frame comes loose after intense workouts
Resistance levels are not intense enough (I ended up working out on 10 and haven't exercised consistently in months, once in shape I'd easily max this bike out)

My ultimate solution was to return this bike due to the clicking sound. Because of my experience, I opted not to exchange it, but rather to buy a Schwinn 140, the next step up. I'm hoping that the heavier flywheel and larger frame will make it more accessible to other family members and provide the resistance I need as I become more fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wonderful Product, July 22, 2011
By BlaqkCanzr
This bike is great. As many others have stated, it is super quiet. The only thing my wife hears in the morning is me huffing and puffing as I get a great workout on this bike. I love it.

There was absolutely no damage to the item or the box when it arrived and assembly was super simple. Schwinn makes a great quality product and amazon sells them for an awesome price. You can't ask for more than that.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pleasantly Surprised, July 14, 2011
By a picky shopper (Frisco, Tx)
After reading all the reviews about damage during shipping, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a good box with no damage. There are many more parts to assemble than I expected, but it all seems to be of good density metal with a decent finish. And the machine is incredibly silent, which I love!

The one CON I have is why, oh why, can they not run the display off of either a [rechargeable] battery or a generator tied to the wheels? Having to plug in the display is a bit annoying, to me. Plus, is inconvenient as the pigtail is at the rear of the machine (when my outlet is near the front wheel) - is it too much to ask for 2 pigtails for all customer conditions?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love the bike! (Well the second one sent that is :) ), July 9, 2011
By jasper740
Well like most others the first bike we received via UPS was damaged. The box was terrible, lots of tape holding it together. In our case the electronic board was cracked & had a big 2 inch round black circle on the screen from being pressed on too long/hard, as well as a few loose pieces rolling around inside of it. Amazon was wonderful & easy to work with! We contacted them on Thursday evening via e-mail, they responded a few hours later & sent one via Fed EX 1day shipping which we received on Saturday morning. This box was near perfect. Bike was pretty easy to put together, about 45 minutes total. It is VERY quiet, sturdy & a great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple review, July 8, 2011
By Adron Gardner (USA)
I'm 5 foot 9 inches and 152 pounds. This is a go-to and convenient workout when I have no time to actually get out and ride or when the unpredictable weather for where I live kills off a run or a bike ride. Mine came overnight shipping with zero damage. I never read the manual. I have my own interval workouts so I haven't tested the programs.

Pros

- Quick and simple assembly (this coming from a former automobile technician)
- Comfortable seat
- Smooth pedal resistance
- Does exactly what it is supposed to do
- Compact

Cons

- No shelf for iPod

For the price, I'm more than happy with the purchase. Hopefully it holds up well - I definitely intend to pile on the miles.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice choice, June 26, 2011
By Quilzas (Maine)
The box the bike arrived in was barely holding together. Looked very beaten up, but everything inside was in tip top shape. Setup was a breeze, despite the kinda vague instructions (but my partner is pretty handy).
The Schwinn 120 fits my needs (and budget) perfectly. Much quieter than I expected as well, even after reading everyone's reviews. The seat isn't the greatest, but I'm more than willing to live with that.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect Bike for home exercise~, June 22, 2011
By Gaoqing
I bought this bike one week ago. Shipping was fast and everything I got in pretty good condition. Assembling it takes some time but I had a lot of fun with it. The nice thing is that it comes with a screw and other useful tools which you can even save for future work. The bike is small and doesn't take much room which is perfect for home exercise. I like the 16 resistance levels and all the exercise programs. I can even read my ipad while riding the bike because of the nice stand there. Strongly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great exercise bike - very quiet, May 3, 2011
By Robert Ard (Alpine, UT USA)
The bike was very easy to put together and runs very smoothly and quietly and has a solid base. I have worn out a number of exercise bikes over the years and so far this is one of the best I have had. The only negative is that I wish the seat would go up a little more since I have long legs.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  just got it in mail today and put it together in about 30 mins!!!, April 2, 2011
By Indiana Customer
I love it! I am so glad I bought one with 16 resistance levels I put it on level 8 since I almost bought the A10 model which only has 8 levels, and 8 is easy... and 16 is a little difficult but even then I can knock it out alright. i took my heart rate from 70 to 140 on level 16 in 2-3 mins. still got to read the manual to figure out programming, until then I will just ignore what interval means, and keep using quick start.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy compact and easy to use, February 25, 2011
By Ace (East Coast)
Keep it in a convenient location and hop on whenever the urge hits. Much nicer than my "old fashioned" exercycler with the big noisy wheel up front. Comfortable, fun, and "user-friendly". Schwinn has always been a good name-- and a long-time manufacturer of "things that rotate".

By american consumer
I am training for a 5K and my work schedule dose not always allow for me to get to the gym. Therefore I wanted a compact and efficient bike to use on those days. I love this thing! It is uiet and works great. I put mine together in 30 minutes. Smooth and gives a good workout. Yes the rear bar plastic was broken, I simply took it back to the store where I bought it and they gave me another. Do you want a good solid exercise bike? This one wins with a price so low if it last the 5 years it actually pays you in better health. Ya HOOOOOO

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Tough Assembly, February 6, 2011

I love my Schwinn 120 upright exercise bike. I love all the features. I had a problem, though, and that was assembling the thing. The directions were fine, that wasn't the problem. It was just terribly difficult to get it up and running. I almost gave up. Finally, finally, I got the thing together, and now everything is fine.

For what you pay for it, it is an amazing product. I have put it to the test exercising very frequently and strenuously. The seat is very hard so buy a seat cover. Also, you can get wider pedals that accommodate bulky exercise shoes better. I recommend it 100%.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike, poor shipping, January 3, 2012
By born2BHis
I've been using the bike for about three weeks now and it has been great! Assembly was pretty simple and I haven't had any problems with the bike itself. I am pretty unhappy with the way Amazon packaged the bike, however. I read the other reviews and so I already knew this was an issue. It seemed like the lesser of two evils to have a bike broken in shipping rather than a bike which malfunctions. I guess I don't have a whole lot of room to complain because I knew there might be a problem. The important components like the computer and the working parts of the bike were well protected and packaged inside of styrofoam. In fact every other plastic piece was well packaged and shipped intact, but for whatever reason Amazon ignored the plastic caps on the ends of the stablizers. These were packaged against the outer cardboard of the box with no protection whatsoever. Small surprise that one was shattered during shipping! Amazon will only replace the entire bike (which is a huge hassle), but they did give me a refund of $20 for deciding to keep the bike with the broken piece. I contacted Nautilus (the manufacturer) and they promised to mail the replacement part to me free of charge. I have yet to receive it, but what with the holidays shipping has been a little disrupted. All in all I got what I expected and have been pleased with the bike. By the way, I have very short legs and got this bike hoping it would work for me. I am very pleased that the seat adjusts quite low and I have had no problems! There are still two lower seat settings than the one I'm using!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  works for me, January 1, 2012
By D. Kelly
I have owned the Schwinn 120 for about two months with no problems. I had the bike shipped and delivered to my apartment so I would not have to carry it up the stairs. UPS did the heavy lifting! The packaging was sloppy. One plastic part arrived broken, but I fixed it with tape.

Set-up took about an hour. The non-verbal instructions were just good enough to get the job done. All of the tools and screws were provided. I recommend that you study the illustrations carefully and practice fitting the parts together. The parts will be easier to identify if you keep them in the package until you need them. Some of the screws are already installed, so if you don't find them in the package, look at the bike.

I purchased the 120 because I do not need any of the features on the other models. The programmed exercises are fine for me and provide plenty of options. If you are confused about operating the program, just push the up and down arrow buttons and the start button to select an option.

The bike runs quiet and smooth. I set the resistance at medium and get a good workout for an hour. I'm a middle-aged man, but I do a lot of walking and cycling. Unless you are a powerful athlete, I doubt that you will need a heavier model. The seat was hard at first, but I got used to it.

Pros: cheap, simple, sturdy

Cons: I wish there were more adjustments so I could fine-tune the fit. This bike will not fit every person. The only adjustment is the seat height and that is in two-inch increments. I'm 5-9, and it fits me. A person who is very tall or short may not fit. Long legs will probably not fit under the console. You may want to try it at a store first. At worst, you can always return it to Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  ?like new?, December 3, 2011
By john
My review may only interest a certain few... the reason I say that is because the product I bought was a schwinn 120 upright bike. The seller stated "like new" and there was a price break. When the product arrived the box was beat up.When removed from shipping box found the product had been opened and there were parts missing...i.e. screws needed for assembly. Then there was the broken wheel(plastic and crushed). anyway I proceeded to assemble it finding screws to replace the ones that were missing. After full assembly the unit didn't work.schwinn has been working with me to correct the problem and they have been a great help.Moral of the story....if it doesn't say "new" you probably should keep looking. My experience is it wasn't worth saving a few dollars when you have to put up with the headache that follows. p.s. schwinn has bent over backwards to help.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great bike!, November 27, 2011

Easy to put together and works fine. Exactly what I was looking for - a basic exercise bike. Great bike for the price. I have had it a few months and no problems yet

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Machine, November 25, 2011
By Robert L McClure
I am recovering from a knee operation. In addition to the normal therapy one receives after an operation, I decided to purchase an exercise bike from Amazon to hasten my recovery and help me maintain my fitness for the ongoing future. This bike is doing everything I could hope for from such a machine. The only reservation I have relates to the manual which is almost incomprehensible and I am still trying to fathom what I need to do to get a particular program up and running. In the meantime I am using the basic program - hence the four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really like it., November 20, 2011
By edgemere
I have a bad back and had surgery 3 yrs ago. Now two more disks are going. No strength in right leg. Can't get up from chairs or the floor without help or using my hands to push up. Bought the bike to strengthen my leg and it seems to be working. Plus I have lost 5 lbs. Extremely quiet. Like it very much. All that I expected it to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  perfect for me, November 16, 2011
By Pat
I'm not a sport person so I use the bike every now and then to exercise a bit. So far I find it a very good choice. It's perfect for an apartment since it does not take too much room, it's silent and quite comfortable.

It arrived in three days in perfect condition and I could assemble it in 30 minutes.

Definitively it's worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good bike considering the price, November 14, 2011
By King Solomon
The bike is very good, quiet in operation and displays everything you need to know about your exercise on its large screen. The installation of all parts is really easy and took me about 15 minutes. After that, I had to setup the bike for my profile. The process could have been faster and unfortunately it only supports one profile, but allows you to have a guest riding a bike. In truth, the profile setup doesn't help with anything as it doesn't connect to anything so you can keep track of your progress.

One issue I found is the seat, it is really hard to sit on even when you're not exercising and it makes it even harder while exercising. So consider buying another seat.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn 120 Upright Exercise Bike, November 3, 2011
By Lucy
This product arrived in great condition. I had been worried about what the UPS man would bring after reading some reviews. It was easy to put together and required two people (or someone with three hands) to attach the handle and screen. It has an uncomfortable seat and I may change it out with something better, but for now I haven't built up enough stamina to sit on the thing for more than 1/2 hour. I like the smaller size and the quietness of the machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a great bike, September 30, 2011
By Constantly Reading (Ohio)
I ordered this bike a month ago and I am still enjoying it. The bike is quiet, easy to use. It has features that I do not use now but may use in the future. I just wanted a simple bike where I could get some exercise in the evenings. I haven't had any problems with the bike. My son bought one as well and he is pleased with his purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn -120, September 22, 2011
By R. Stout (California)
The Schwinn - 120 exercise bike was easily assembled, is sturdy and works well... that's what a Schwinn is all about, isn't it!
Less expensive bikes failed the test of time and wastes money.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No Complaints, Excellent Bike!, September 10, 2011
By A. Agelire Jr.
I bought this particular model based on the overall great reviews I read. Though it's only been a few days, I'm very satisfied with it. It's very quiet and was easy to put together. It took me about an hour to put together. I suppose it would be somewhat difficult for those who are not mechanically-inclined, but all in all it's not very difficult. Just a few quick notes for those who plan on buying one and putting it together: It doesn't mention the step of attaching the adjustment knob, but it's just a matter of twisting/threading it in (super easy). Also, when you go to put on the electric monitor on top of the handle bars, don't look for the screws; they are already on the back of the monitor! You have to take them out, then put them back in. Same for the little bottle-holder (screws are already on the frame). Also be sure to face the front stabilizer bar the right way (wheels in the front). That's the first step, btw. Anyway, back to the bike itself. No complaints, though the seat is kind of uncomfortable. No big deal though. I think an extra seat cushion of some sort will work fine. Nothing is ever perfect. Bottom line: This bike IS as good as the overall ratings and the price is reasonable for sure. If I have any updates, I will add them. This is as of 9-10-11.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great exercise bike, September 8, 2011
By J. Depalma (Florida)
Unlike other customers, my bike was not damaged in any manner during travel.

Installation: Very easy to do. It comes with all of the parts, and I did it by myself in about 30 minutes. The handle bar is a little tricky if you are doing it by yourself.

Computer: Getting logged in the first time is somewhat bothersome. I am just doing my own thing via quick start.

Cons: If you put the bike on tile, it might have a somewhat tough time being balanced. I just placed my exercise mat under the bike.

Great bike, enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike but stock seat is way too hard., June 26, 2011
By DreamWeaver3
Great bike, especially for the price. Seat is way to hard though even for 30-60 minutes of biking. Had to buy a softer Schwinn seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike for the Price, September 3, 2011
By Andy (Los Angeles, CA)
I bought this bike in March, and since then, this bike has been great. While there are better bikes out there, for the price, I think it was a great deal.

The box delivered from FedEx was quite large and heavy. I assembled everything by myself and took about an hour to do so. I've used the exercise bikes and spin bikes in the gym, and from my experience, most exercise bikes are a one-size-fits-all, so this particular bike might not be perfect for everyone.

I only wanted an exercise bike for cardio and exercise since my knees are not so good. There are different workouts, but I usually just use the quick start option. The heart monitor might not be that accurate as it differs from the ones at the gym. In most cases, it takes a while for it to jump to your actual heart rate. For example, it starts at 70 bpm and then slowly raises by 2 every second to your actual heart beat. Also, I find the seat a bit uncomfortable, especially after a long period of time, but others who have used the bike actually find it painful to sit in. This might be a major concern for some. A minor point is that the foot straps are hard to change, so I usually leave it at some length. The bike seems durable enough, which was my greatest concern, but the bike generates a significant amount of heat from the resistance system, where after 30 minutes of riding at level 6, it would feel hot if you were to touch it with your palm. Besides these points, everything has been great so far.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Do not buy it, November 28, 2011
By Andres
I bought this item 4 weeks ago and it was a real nightmare. First, I waste one day at home waiting for UPS, they did not come and they posted they did. Next day, the same thing, they did not even try to deliver the item and they just posted they did and I wasted another day in front of my building waiting for them. Anyhow, I called amazon, and after an hour fighting they called UPS and put the bike on hold. I drove to the UPS store and I came back home with the bike. I opened it ans it was broken. Called amazon again, they sent another bike, I opened the new box and guess what. The new one was broken too. It was a real nightmare. I called amazon again and thee only thing that they said was "return both and we will give you a refund". Finally I could assemble one bike with the pieces of the 2 boxes (and in one bike even the console, which was not broken, did not work).
The bike makes a lot of noise and probably will last a year. This is not a 100 bucks bike, but performs like that. So, save money and frustration and buy the a 100 dollars bike instead of this one
