nice compromise tread, August 5, 2009
By roadie (pineapple park, FL, USA)
|
|
Nice tire for the money with a compromise tread that lets me ride trails or veer onto the grass to miss snowbirds or panhandlers on the path or the street. Installed on a set of double-wall rims on a vintage ('92) Rockhopper. Note that this tire is 'drive-specific,' and requires some attention on mounting (e.g., 'Drive -->'). BTW, mounting was a snap with only a pair of Park Tool TL-1s - not bad at all for a wire-bead tire!
We'll see how it holds up - but I like the 65-psi max rating - nice for less rolling resistance when fighting cagers in an urban setting!

Great tire, November 7, 2009
By NVW (NV USA)
|
|
Stock tires were worthless. Replaced them with these Kendas. Instant improvement: No more flats, so far. Less rolling resistance and tire noise because of tread design and higher inflation pressure (65 psi). Tougher construction. They're very good for my application, which is asphalt, pot holes, dirt roads, light off-road.

Great Hybrid for the price., July 26, 2010
By Robert Mcguire

|
Directional tire with a solid bead in the center. The bead is about 7/16" wide and when riding on a hard surface is the only part of the tire that makes contact with the road at 65psi . I had a chance to use these at Hillside Park in Elk River, MN. (youtube it to see some nice single track)it's a MTN bike park with easy to extreme single track, although a bit slippery I never felt out of control even on some of the more technical aspects of the course. The rear wheel did spin some on the steeper uphills. This is not supposed to be a heavy off-road tire but will easily cross over. The side lugs aggressively grabbed the corners, I actually felt surer in the corners than on the straight a ways or braking before the corner. Like others, 2 tires came in a full sized bike box - made for a nice fire though.

Good Trail cross tire for crushed rock bike bath/paved/road tire, June 17, 2010
By J (Chicago)
|
|
Kenda K908 Pathfinder Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95-Inch Excellent all around mild trail tire w/medium tire pressure of 65psi, a round tire tread design with directional speed lugging edges to attain good speed even on the rough stuff. A mtb semi-slick tire that rolls fast, rides well, and has good traction for hardpack gravel/pave/dirt trails for only $9.99 out the door! My wife and i use these tires for crushed rock and dirt trail rides, these are not for aggresive mtb climing, mudding or washouts, but then again they are called pathfinders for a reason(They are GREAT PATH tires!)

I needed new tires for my comfort bike It had 1200 miles on it. Looked at the bike shops prices for a decent tire were 25 to 40 bucks. looked on line got 2 of these for 20 bucks, these tires are really nice directional tread smooth center for on road ridding and some more aggressive tread on the sides for coutrol off road Tires are shipped in a large box so the steel wire beads dont kink. I think these tires are a unbeatable value Im Very happy with them.

An amazing improvement over my old tires, February 9, 2011
By DABalke7

These tires are high quality, durable, and versatile. They work well with the bell no-more flats inner tubes keep a good shape and have excellent traction. Speaking of the traction I am able to ride my bike over ice and through slush without much problem something I thought would have been a major problem. These tires are more streamlined and lighter than the tires I had before on my bike (which were Kenda wide mountain bike tires, nearly 1.5 times as wide as these) with the same amount of traction, if not more. These tires are an all around improvement and I highly recommend them

so far ok, June 28, 2010

i installed two of these on my bike. i felt the difference immediately! really smooth ride. i took it out for about 40 min mostly on sidewalks and street. it has a min/max of 40-65 psi i inflated them to about 50 psi. i think its too early to give a definitive review, but if the tires keep up like they have on the streets then I am satisfied. Well they are a step up from the old ones I was riding on for sure. i made sure to set them up with the proper drive direction as listed on the tire. i used the slime smart tube schrader valve bicycle tube.
oh one more thing i also got the wheels in the biggest box imaginable. it was the size of a small fridge. so be prepared for it!

love 'em, March 13, 2011

great tire for a city / mountain bike hybrid. I have a Giant mountain bike that I put these on to replace the original knobby tires, and the ride is much smoother on pavement. I still get good grip in gravel, grass, and other urban types of surfaces. These tires are decently thick as well so I don't really have to worry about getting too many flats. Its amazing how much energy I lost with my previous knobby tires on the pavement... now I just glide right along! Thanks amazon & kenda!

Great replacement tire for mountain bike used, September 13, 2010
By Traveler

This is the first time I've had to replace the rear tire on my 1994 mountain bike. It went on easily and has been great to ride. The middle part makes the ride a lot quieter and the side nubs help grip while cornering offroad.

Fantastic tire, August 15, 2010
By journalist (Chicago, IL)

Let's keep it simple here, these tires are great. Got 2 of them to replace my 15 year + Trek tires. Fitting them was easier than expected. Noticed the difference right away, smooth on the roads I ride on and just enough grip for the loose gravel trials I ride on.

Great Tires, May 13, 2010
By ncustadr (COSTA MESA, CA, USA)

These tires are great. When I read the reviews that the tires themselves would increase your speed about 1-3 mile/hr. I was a in a little disbelief. BUT when I put the tires on a took them for a ride it immediatly felt the difference and the increase of 2-3 mph. They are very smooth on the road. I do not do a lot of offrading but the little I have done they have performed very well.

They Really Make You Fly Down the Road, April 20, 2011

I thought I would try something different from knobby mtn bike tires. I'm Very Pleased w/my decision. I think they would even make a Hardtail bicycle feel much smoother. I don't know if I will go back to knobby tires. I love the speed the tires deliver :)

Great Commuter Tire, April 9, 2011
By fleisc66
|
|
I got a pair of these tires to replace the aggressively treaded tires on my mountain bike. I use my bike for commuting on roads and wanted a tire that provided decreased noise and rolling resistance without loosing light off road capability. This tire fits the bill. Quality seems to be good and I have had no issues with these tires.

Great tire at an excellent price, April 5, 2011
By Reed G-J

|
The tires on my old mountain bike were wearing down to the point that the rear tire had no tread left in the middle of the tire, so I decided it was time to get some new tires. Since the bike is really old I didn't want to spend a lot of money on tires so these tires caught my eye. It was my first time installing a set of tires myself and I managed to get it done pretty quickly and without too much hassle.
I took my bike for an 11-mile ride yesterday, the first time I've used these tires. I'm quite pleased so far. The majority of the ride was on sidewalks and paved bike trails and the tires performed flawlessly. They were much quieter than my old mountain bike tires and it feels like they roll quite a bit smoother as well. It had rained shortly before my ride, so the pavement was wet, which allowed me to see that, as designed, only the center tread was making contact with the pavement, keeping the ride quiet and smooth. I did take the bike off the pavement some and I didn't have any trouble with traction and control through grass.
Overall, I think these tires are an excellent value for the money!

Perfect Dual Purpose Tire, November 30, 2010
By Big-D (Lake Havasu City, AZ United States)

Kenda makes a great bike tire for both on and off road. I really like the center tread that is designed for straight road use, while still having the knobbies on the side of the tires that come in contact with the ground the second you leave the pavement. They handle up to 60psi. Really smooth on pavement and grip really well off road. An excellent all around tire!

Awesome tire for city riding, September 25, 2010
By C. Paterson (Orange County, CA)

Bought these tires to replace the knobby tires on my mountain bike since I now use it to ride around in the urban jungle known as downtown LA. Love them! Smooth riding with minimal resistance. I haven't tried them off-road, nor will I. Looking at them they are probably of minimal use on a dirt track setting. However, for use here in the city, and considering the price, I don't think you could find a better deal.

I do not know how they can sell these at such a low price. I purchased one to replace a Kenda Komfort, which would have cost me more than twice the price. These roll even better and fit my Day 6 semi recumbent just fine.

Great Tires, May 21, 2010
By Weekend Warrior (Ann Arbor, MI)

|
Nice Tires, came fast, easy to install. I wish I had bought tires with a deeper tread but these are exactly what what they look like. I thought these would be good for on and off road but these are road tires with tread on the sides in case you need to swerve off the path. They are not meant for off road riding, they will still slip.

Great tire but why limit puchase to 3 tires?, May 3, 2011
By pchesnut (Chantilly, VA USA)

Have these tire installed on my wifes bike and they are very nice. Actually ordered four tires for my two bikes but the ordered got kicked back. "Order limited to 3 per customer". I completed the order with two tires and tried to order two more after the first set came in, same message. Very odd. Guess you are in good shape if you one of those big trikes but other wise you are out of luck if you need to fit out two bikes. I'll check out the Kenda K847 Kross + Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95-Inch.

Effective cheap tire, May 11, 2011
By barefooter (Round Lake, IL)

This tire does what it says in the desciption. I tried to find out more in depth specs before I ordered it and I could not. Maybe Kenda is ashamed of it. The label was marked 22 threads per inch, which makes it a very stiff tire. The rubber tread is very hard, so it will probably last. Price was low, but I wouldn't buy them again.

I put these tires on an older mountain bike and have since taken it on some pretty technical mountain terrain without any slipping, as well as some nice paved trail rides. These are great tires and I'd recommend them to anyone looking to rides on multiple types of terrain.

Good tire for the price, July 31, 2011
By outdoorsman (TX USA)

I give this tire 5 stars because I think it's very good for the price that I paid.
Great performance on the street with added traction when the pavement ends and the dirt begins.
The tire is thinner than I expected but I'm using thick thorn resistant tubes with them and so far they are holding up very well.

Pathfinder, July 16, 2011
By M.T.

I got these to replace my discontinued maxxis worm drive tires(which I loved, and cost more than twice as much). So far they have exceeded my expectations they roll as good as the maxxis did, but are a bit more agressive on the trails. If you are looking for a good road and trail tire this in my opinion is it. Plus you cant beat the price. I cant really say much about durability yet since I only have a few hundred miles on them so far, but they seem to be holding up just fine.
Another note,my side by side comparison to the Kend cross plus, the Pathfinders seem more heavy duty and have a bit more agressive tread. Though the cross plus were lighter. Hope this helps :)

Excellent for street riding, June 22, 2011
By Edgardo Ocampo
|
|
Fast and firm on roads but still have the grips for offroad trails.
I have a hard-tail Cannondale which I ride on roads for comfort 80% of the time.
A world of difference from the knobby tires I replaced. So much of a cruzer due to
the low rolling resistanece even at 5 lbs under the maximum pressure allowed. Very
capable on terrains like the C & O or 'fire' trails but not recommended for single tracks.

slowest tires ever, June 21, 2011
By wcaplenor
|
|
I bought this tire looking for something to put on a mountain bike so that I could commute to work and hit some trails afterwards.
I wanted something with a little less rolling resistance but wouldn't totally wash out on the dirt. These tires waste so much of my energy on the street, I think I'd be better off with full knobbies.

Nice and smooth ride., June 13, 2011
By J. Han
|
|
I replaced a 2.10 OEM mountain bike tires that were getting a bit long in the tooth (16 years). Besides the dry rot, I wanted more of a commuter type tire anyway. Something I could use on rail-trails and paved trails. This tire fit the bill exactly. Very easy to install, didn't need any tire irons. I could tell the difference right away my old rigid mountain bike was transformed into a much more smooth ride. Took it on a 32 mile ride on some paved trails and saw about a 1 mph average speed increase over the entire trip. I can't tell how long they will last but they seem durable enough.

Kenda Tires, May 21, 2011
By Cheryl
|
|
I ordered these tires to replace my 15 year old formerly knobby tires on my GT Timberline. Since 90% of my riding is on the pavement I wanted something a bit smoother, but didn't want to give up the ability to do some light trail riding. These tires fit the bill. Nice smooth center rib makes for a quiet ride on the pavement, yet the knobby sides help when on light trails. So far we have ridden on pavement, gravel, and dirt trails and these tires were stable on all.

Great all around bike tire!, October 17, 2010
By qhasu
|
|
These tires are outstanding! I have a 20 year old Specialized Hardrock rigid frame mountain bike which I ride mostly on paved surfaces. I inflate the Kenda Pathfinders right up to 65 psi (the maximum recommended rating) and my bike just seems to glide along effortlessly. I tried some "light duty off roading" with these tires a few times and they perform okay when the pavement gets a little loose, but I would not go too far on the beaten path since these tires are mainly street/pavement oriented. These tires are definitely not for off roading, but they can handle an occasional venture on a dirt trail if care is taken. Overall, these tires are very smooth riding, quiet, inexpensive, durable (I have almost 400 miles on my 3 month old set--no punctures yet), and I love the 65 psi rating.

Added speed on the road - nice tires, November 26, 2011
By Mike

I've found myself doing some more urban riding with one of my older mtn bikes and wanted to swap the tires out from knobbies to something a little more pavement friendly. These tires decrease my rolling resistance noticeably but still grab the ground if I have to cut through grass or dirt.

Kenda K908 Pathfinder, October 24, 2011
By Rusty Razor (Califonia)
|
|
This was the OEM tire on my 2005 Diamondback Wildwood Deluxe and I always enjoyed the nice ride and reduced rolling resistance. But a few months after buying the bicycle I ran over some broken glass on a paved trail near home that basically destroyed both tires. The first set of replacement tires were the Continental Town & Country, highly recommended by another rider. I loved them but the sidewall on the rear tire failed after about 6 months of casual riding. The original Town & Country was made in Germany and was supposed to be one of the best tires you could buy. Continental started making these in India and most reviews rate this "new" tire pretty low now. The next set of tires were the Serfas Drifter that never let me down but rolling resistance was noticeably higher than previous tires. I finally found these Kenda Pathfinder tires here at Amazon and decided to switch back to the original tires. I'm really glad to have these back on my bike again. They have a nice quiet ride on paved trails, offer some traction for dirt and gravel, and rolling resistance is much improved over the Serfas Drifters. I'm using Bell self-sealing tubes to provide some protection from flats and so far the combination is working great.
