Does Not Stick Very Well!, February 23, 2010
By Michael O. (Rhode Island, USA)

I ordered 60 rolls of this tape late last year because Amazon was selling it for roughly 1/2 the price of what they are charging now. It was on back-order and I had to wait 2 months for delivery. It came out to like 89 cents a roll so I didn't mind waiting. Well, now I'm fairly disappointed with the product. IT JUST DOESN'T STICK VERY WELL! I do a little selling on eBay sometimes and I prepared a few packages for shipment. The next morning when I was getting ready to head out to FedEx to drop them off I noticed several areas where the tape was not adhering to the box. I had to double tape around the whole perimeter of the box to make sure the tape wouldn't lift off in transit. I can't afford to get poor feedback on eBay because a customer's item got damaged because I used some crappy tape! Now I don't know what to do. It could just be one bad roll - I've only used one so far. But I think there was a reason the tape was so cheap and that's because it's just not that good. I expected better from a product associated with the 3M company.
This probably won't turn out to be much of a bargain because I will have to use twice as much tape to make sure the box is properly closed. Live and learn...
UPDATE 04-22-10
I've since used 6 rolls of this tape and I have a little more confidence in it's holding ability now. I think maybe the first roll I used was bad. I am upgrading my rating to 3-1/2 stars because while the product is not as bad as I originally described, it's still not very sticky tape, and you have to use A LOT more of it to make sure your package is securely taped.

good value, February 14, 2010

For less than a dollar a roll, this tape is a very good value. It mid-weight; not the strongest on the market, but not the flimsiest either. It applies pretty easily without wrinkling like cheap tapes often do. I bought it direct from Amazon and I did receive 6 rolls of tape for less than six dollars with free Prime shipping.
The label on the package says "Made in China for 3M", so the Amazon's claim of "Made in USA" is apparently false.

Just as good as the cheaper store tape, May 7, 2010
By Jessee Wright (Virginia)

There is always the worry when you get the cheaper tape (not the scotch or duck) that it will be the stringy thin tape that won't tear straight or that you can't get started! This stuff works just as well as the brand I purchase from wally world and it costs less. I'll be buying it again. It is by no means ultra high quality, but it will get the job done for your every day shipping.

Tartan Tape, February 6, 2011

Best price for 6 large rolls of clear packing tape. Tape works well, better than staples generic. I would recommend.

poor quality tape, January 11, 2011
By pet person

I loved the review and price of this tape however I was not very happy with the quality. It tears mid strip to easily, it does not stretch at all. It's adhesive properties were also lacking as the tape came off many of the ends of of the boxes. I've used other brands of tape including "bargain" tape with better results.

Great for the price - not the toughest tape, January 2, 2011

This isn't the toughest tape, but for the price it's pretty good. It's perfect for taping up most boxes for shipping. No problems yet. It's easy to tear with your teeth - which is a huge plus.

Very good to excellent quality at an exceptional price., December 24, 2010

My title pretty much says it all. This tape is acceptably good for any packing job and costs far less than thicker tape which in 99.99% of situations will get the same job done. I have used this tape for professional packing for literally decades now and will continue to.

Used it for moving and taping boxes and wrapping blankets. Fine for that, wouldn't use it to ship boxes.

Great packing tape for everyday shipping, October 18, 2010
By AS (New Jersey)

I ship a lot of packages every week and found this tape to be a great bargain. It is thin, yet not fragile, inexpensive, good adhesive. I found it to be better than the thick Scotch brand tape sold on Amazon, which costs a lot more than Tartan sealing tape, comes in a very small size, is heavy and doesn't stick well. The Tartan tape does have a stronger smell though, but it isn't a deal breaker for me: I pack and I ship with no storage of packages. I haven't tried it on very heavy packages.

I bought many of these back when they were on sale for $1.99 . Works just as good as Scotch or any other name brand for a fraction of the cost. I keep waiting for a similar sale to stock up on even more.

Works For Me, November 8, 2010
By The Esc Macs (Escondido, Ca)

Great price and the tape works great for me and my packages. I have used Scot, but was looking for a better value. This tape fit the value bill and I ordered it despite the negative reviews, that it didn't hold. I find it holds great and one other thing I have noticed, when I used the Scot brand it would tear wrong as you start to peel it back. The Scot tape would often peel and tear into smaller widths, not the full width of tape. The piece of tape would be too narrow and you would have to start over and tape would be wasted. The Tartan Brand so far has not torn. It peels back verily easily and has a thickness to it that keeps it from tearing when you don't want it too. I will purchase again.

Strong and sticky. Was the correct tape for a moving project, October 23, 2011
By Citizen John (USA)
|
|
Besides the fairness of the deal, this tape is strong and sticks well. I used it to seal boxes for a move, some boxes even containing ball bearings. The tape held up. The sticky side is a bit gummy so it tended to gum up the tape dispenser frequently and I had to switch to cutting it with scissors. Other tape such as 3M does not gum up like this in my experience, but is not so inexpensive as this one.
