Worked Fine, January 17, 2010
By W. Tse
|
|
Fairly easy installation. Just open up your computer and pop them into the RAM slots. The covering helps to prevent damage from static shock. When I booted up my computer, the RAM was recognized immediately. I haven't run any tests, so I don't know the exact performance increase. Even though the title says "Core i5" the memory runs fine with my AMD Phenom II X4 965 and ASUS M4A77TD motherboard.
*Note: I ordered this from Amazon and the product arrived five days after the expected delivery date. This was expected, though, since I ordered the product with free shipping and I ordered it right before Christmas eve. Just be wary that the expected delivery date does not reflect delays caused by holiday rushes.

Great RAM for the money - just make sure to go into your motherboard BIOS to set it at 1600..some don't do this by default.

Running these in an i5, Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 machine (dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10) for about a month and haven't had any issues so far. If I ever end up needing more memory I would buy them again.

Not for Overclockers!, July 16, 2010
By Peeved Kitten
|
|
I ordered this through Amazon with 2 day shipping and it showed up the next week. I use this RAM in conjunction with an ASUS CHIV mobo, AMD PII 1090T Thuban, a BFG Nvidia 9800 GTX+ OC, 32 gb high speed ssd and a 500gb 6gbs pair of data drives raided together.
This ram is ok, it works fine as long as I leave it at stock. It refuses to overclock or underclock for the world though. I have never seen a stick of RAM I couldn't slow down.
If you're an every day user this stuff works great, go for it. If you want to play with the system and overclock, STAY AWAY.

I used this with the ASUS Crosshair IV using a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor and although the packaging says Intel it works great with my setup. I just think it's a way to persuade people to use Intel processors but not me sorry!

i5 Limits this RAM to 4 Gigs, April 21, 2010
By The Blog Guy (Torrance)
|
|
If you want to use this DDR3-1600 memory with Intel's i5 you will be unable to expand past 4 gigs. According to Intel's spec definition, X.M.P. DIMMS and DDR3-1600 are supported for one DIMM per channel, which means forget about adding an additional pair of RAM sticks.
A call to Intel's tech support verified this. They recommend that if you want to use more than two sticks of RAM with the i5 that you use DDR3-1333.

Very good, March 22, 2010
By Pop (Rolla Mo)

Ram works fine with i3-540, even it says for i5.
I easily overclocked it to 1820MHZ(maybe higher, but it is enough to me) and finish the torture test, however, the voltage had to be set to 1.66v (no rated 1.65v option on my MB), otherwise, it will cause BSOD.
Another thing, this ram is not low voltage one like the recommended RAM voltage for i3-540: around 1.5v, it actually is not for i3 and i5 etc. Well, nobody cares Intel's recommendation though. Also the voltage for i3 needs to be increased too, so that the difference between I3 and ram is less than 0.4v, otherwise it may damage the processor.

Excellent RAM....and great Amazon price w/rebate!, January 31, 2010
By He who hears the shema drinks the .. (Mount Vernon, WA)

Solid memory. You really can't get much better for DDR3 RAM in this price range. CAS latency is not a big deal unless you are really needing minimal gains by getting the next line up of Corsair memory. If you are just wanting a solid home box for gaming, this stuff is great.
I use mine with an ASUS P55 board running an i7-860. No issues at all. Seems to handle i5/i7 just fine (and probably i3, now that it's out!) Haven't OC'd it yet, but I suspect it can probably hit 1800mhz or 2000mhz with no trouble.
Who could pass this up with a 20-buck rebate? Awesome, Amazon....thanks!

Produces Errors, March 4, 2011
By Wendy M. Ongaro
|
|
I would be careful with these. I have had three sets now that have produced errors on Intel boards. I believe it is due to the heat spreaders not dispersing heat properly. The errors are subtle and require a lot of work to reproduce with analysis software, but they are there. This has caused me trouble with my clients, and I just can't use or recommend this particular series from Corsair.

Defective, November 28, 2010
By J. Beaver (Mill Valley, CA)

I bought this memory as part of a new build I was doing -- my first purchase of Corsair ram. In the past I've had good luck with Kingston, but what the heck, Amazon sells a lot of Corsair, so why not? Sure there are many tales of woe from victims of faulty Corsair ram, but it couldn't happen to me. The first sign that something might be wrong was the continual crashing of Win 7, 64 bit, during installation. I pulled one stick of Corsair, and Windows installed like a champ! Then the crashing on a cold start began. Must be the voltage, maybe the timing, a bad slot, faulty motherboard, defective cpu -- so many possibilities. Well after a couple of days of screwing around, trying this and doing that, and more than a dozen crashes later, I was forced to admit that Denial was not a river in Egypt. One stick was cr*p!! Fortunately Amazon is very good about taking back defective merchandise, but that isn't going to erase all the feelings of frustration when yet another BSOD popped up, or get me back the wasted hours getting this computer working properly. Aarrghhh!
Update: The replacement Kingston ram has arrived and works flawlessly. Cheaper, too. Update #2: The Corsair power supply that I bought at the same time as the ram, failed after four months. Hmmmm ...

They may only be a dual channel setup, but 2/3 of much more bandwidth than with a i5, I can't complain. This way you can get a better motherboard that will allow small upgrades over time rather than entire new builds (more cost effective). Plus, these are great pieces that I've had no issues with. I have no complaints.

Though I did not purchase this memory for an Intel build, nor did I purchase it from Amazon, I write here as Corsair has provided me problem free memory for years. This build was no exception. I run 8 gigs of this memory at 1500 mhz on an AMD 965 quad core build utilizing an ASUS M4A89GTD Pro USB3 board. The latter two items came from Amazon, and the memory would have as well had it been in stock at the time. The combination has been one of stability, speed, and strength as measured by the number of applications open at any one time; this can be up to twenty as I am a researcher and writer. I measure strength in this manner as dealing with multiple programs, including audio/visuals, is a function of RAM. I have yet to run the chips over the 1600 mhz as there is no need. At 1600 mhz, the Windows 7 Ultimate experience is 7.5, which is fine with me. My past and other current machines are all Intel based, on DDR2 RAM, also Corsair. Suffice it to say, based on experience, the recommendation of fellow computer builders, and Corsair's rich history, I see no need to look elsewhere for high quality, robust and reliable products; Corsair definately rocks!

Worked so well, I bought it again, August 21, 2010
By couldbeanybody

I built a computer with this memory about six months ago, and just bought it again to upgrade to 8gb. It snapped right into my Gigabyte ga-p55a-ud3p motherboard, and with a quick fix in the BIOS, I had it running at 1600 in no time. It's been stable since then, with zero Windows 7 64-bit crashes. I haven't tried to overclock it. My Windows performance index score for memory is 7.5 out of a possible 7.9. Memory modules that aren't tested together don't always play well together, but the old and the new ones are working just fine, even though there are cosmetic differences between the two pairs of modules, and of course the lot numbers are different. I ran Memtest86+ overnight for 8 passes total, with zero errors, and have had no crashes after several days of use. And it's a nice bonus that RAM prices are down a bit since I first bought this memory, especially with the $[...] rebate that's currently available. Of course, I haven't received my rebate yet, but the online pre-registration made applying for it a breeze.

fast memory, good price, what else do you need?, July 18, 2010
By Mauricio Antonio Castro

WONDERFUL memory, stable, ran perfect at first install attempt, thight default settings, no need to fine tune any setting at all, this memory is just awesome. enables you to overclock without fuss on processors that use 1333 memory like the phenom II X6. VERY satisfied.
amazon packaging: AWFUL AWFUL packaging, box was poorly sealed, almost opened in fact, some plastic bags around the items and that was it, are foam beans that expensive nowadays? I was afraid the items were severely damaged, fortunately for me they were in good condition but there were signs of careless packaging, I am deeply concerned about all this and I will think twice before ordering anything else from amazon.

Great RAM for the price, using a Phenom II 965 Black Edition O.C.'d 4.1Ghz with this RAM (works flawlessly) even though the RAM is "Core i3 i5 i7". Easy installation, I just opened my case, and put them into the RAM slots on my motherboard and turned on the system. I even overclocked the RAM to 1800Mhz, and could go more. I highly recommend this RAM, or any RAM from Corsair.

Works great on AMD DDR3 systems as well!, March 19, 2010
By KJ (Colorado)

I'm using this on an AMD system with no issues, just popped them in and set to "optimal" in the bios. I'm not gaming or anything, so I'm no looking to push them to the limit on timing/latency. Running at 1600 with slightly different timings than stated though.
Memory seems stable, ran memtest with no problems. Stays fairly cool even when running lots of programs and installing new ones. Quality brand for a great price...seems like a no-brainer to me.

Corsair DDR3 Memory, November 17, 2010
By Med Sampler (TX)

This memory looked great for capability and tech characteristics for the price. Bought 2GB x 4 for a total of 8GB RAM. About 10 days after installing, I began to have computer crash problems with Microsoft Outlook Professional 2010. Gradually, had computer BSOD with Windows 7 OS too. Spent more than 5 hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support for both softwares until we narrowed the problem to hardware. Downloaded Microsoft's recommendation for free memory module checker (Windows Memory Diagnostic) since memory apparently is traditionally the first in the hardware chain (memory, mobo, cpu) to be the likely problem. 2 of the modules failed. Couldn't believe a 50% failed rate. Corroborated with another free program, Memtest 86+. Ran multiple tests and confirmed. Called Amazon, explained the problem, and asked for replacement 2 modules. To Amazon's credit they didn't flinch and sent me not just 2, but all 4 new modules. Luckily this error worked out well, because I ran the diagnostics again prior to installation and found 2 of these new modules failed. Bottom line in my experience is a consistent 50% fail rate. I don't know how this compares with other users. Now that I have the memory up and running, it's doing great. I didn't know how to rate "Compatibility" in this case, so did not.

Had compatibility issues with GA-P55m-ud2 motherboard, August 14, 2010
By Lehto

I searched for a long time on the internet and settled on this memory because of the speed and the price (plus amazon actually ships to alaska). This was for a new build and I finally figured out after 3 months that the periodic windows 7 freezing which started to increase above once a day was due to the memory. It will not run stable on my system above 1066mhz and no overclocking. All my other components should be able to handle mild overclocking with no stability issues. This was a very frustrating problem since this was my first new build in a long time and it was all new components, plus it was my first new build in a long time so I didn't really know how to troubeshoot it very well. Either way I finally found another post in the Corsair support forum from a guy with the same issues and hardware. I ordered Gskill ECO ram and plan on swapping it out. If it is not the memory after all then I will update this post (which I doubt since now the system has been stable for 3 days and before I slowed it down it would freeze at least once a day). I also ran three memtest86 runs and it worked fine (not all night or anything, just like 30 minutes). I need to sell it though so make me an offer if you don't have that motherboard...

I'd be much more pleased if it worked, April 25, 2010

One of the modules was bad. Corsair is a good brand with a good reputation, but nothing irritates me more than buying something brand new that doesn't work. What bothers me the most was that this was a new PC build and therefore all the hardware was untested. In other words I spent more time troubleshooting this thing than I would have liked to. Is it just me or do memory manufacturers seem to have a hard time putting out working products consistently? Anyway long story short, if you get a good batch the memory is great.

installed it on my Asus mobo and it works great, had to initially use the mem-ok button to lower the frequency to 1333MHz, but easily switched it to 1600MHz in the bios in just a couple seconds. good memory for an acceptable price, plus the sticks look pretty cool in my case. the packaging was no-nonsense, came in a small box with just enough room for 3 sticks of RAM, which this is only 2 so one of the RAM stick cases was an empty one.

Seems to be first-class, May 5, 2012
By PhotoGraphics (Arizona)

Unless someone is a die-hard techie with means to measure extremely fine grades of performance, it's hard to lose sleep over the choice of computer memory anymore. Trust me, I have paid thousands of dollars over the years for MUCH less memory than 4GB and probably never got anywhere near the performance this modules can deliver.
It is hard to imagine how cheap memory is. In this case, under $30 for 4GB. These spec'd well well with my new processor/motherboard intended for a low-price home built media PC to be used on my living room LCD TV. The built-in heatsink is a nice touch, the BIOS recognized the memory immediately and classified it properly to be used with a dual-channel APU, and so far no matter how intense my APU needs the memory seems to have kept up with the task.
If you are a gamer or computer purists, your needs may differ. If you buy your computer off the shelf at a big box store you probably have no idea the brand or specs of the internal memory. For the rest of us, just simple everyday users who build a basic computer for everyday use ... these chips are a good value for the price. What more can you ask?

corsair xms 1600mhz dual ram kit, December 10, 2011
By nickfromoz

From the start I would like to point out that despite this products description (as being for core i5 cpu's), that it is completely compatible with other cpu's and motherboards that require DDR3 ram. I purchased this ram having allready owned an identical kit. I wanted to expand my pc's ram from 4gb to 8gb. I have built many pc's and have used corsair ram many times before. I had no doubt or hesitation in using it again. And having installed it a month or so ago, it has run flawlessly since. although my cpu (an AMD Phenom II X2, unlocked and overclocked - 4x cores running @ 3.7ghz) can only run 4x sticks (supposedly) of ram at a time at a reduced speed of 1333mhz (a limitation of my cpu, not the ram), I have been able to run 4x 2gb sticks at 1600mhz. This is not gauranteed to happen on all AMD cpu's, but if you run an Intel cpu you should have no problems. I want to make clear, so there is no confusion, that this kit comes with 2x2gb sticks of ram (a total of 4gb) and I have two of these kits (4x2gb). You will need a 64bit operating system to make the most of 4gb or more ram, allthough a 32bit OS will still run most of this ram (it will have access to about 3.1gb - 3.2gb out of the 4gb available). Again, these are limitations of the operating system, not the ram. The ram is fine, high quality, and exactly what it's advertised to be. I seriously doubt anyone who complains about it knows what they are talking about (or doing). The fact that even corsair is now selling ram so cheap is awesome. Why bother NOT running 8gb?

Good RAM at a good price!, October 19, 2011

I now have three sets of this stuff. Not too shabby! I wish I had a better mobo that would let me run this stuff at 1600 though. Oh well. That upgrade can come later. Thanks Corsair for never letting me down!

Awesome overclockable RAM for the price!, October 13, 2011
By el_Charlie (Venezuela)

This memory kit is great. I bought one kit to my EVGA P55 Micro build with a i5 760 and works absolutely fine. With 4GB, I overclocked the CPU and this RAM to 1620 MHz (162 Bclk, 3.41GHz the processor) and worked smooth as silk.
Now, I bought a second kit for a total of 8GB and decided to go further and raised a bot the Bclk to 163 MHz and now my RAM runs at 1633 MHz without a hiccup (3.43GHz). I also set the Command Rate (CR) to 1T and the difference is GREAT!
You can't go wrong with this memory. It's FAST and also CHEAP and great quality with heat-spreader and that stuff.
For the people complaining that this memory works by default at 1333 MHz its because that's how is supposed to work. ANYTHING beyond 1333 is overclock because the Core iX processors works at a stock frequency of 1333MHz. You'll need to activate XMP reach 1600 easily or change the values manually.
I don't know about AMD cpu's but I guess thats the same workaround.
Also make sure not to pass 1.65v or you'll find unstable your system.
Cheers!

Decent Memory, Decent Price, September 8, 2011
By Harper Jayne (Vista, CA)
|
|
This memory was purchased for my wife's PC a year ago. In the interim her system has run for the most part well. (There was an issue with random bluescreens which was MOSTLY resolved with a windows 7 reinstall, but it's POTENTIALLY a memory issue. That's about the only reason this review is 4, and not 5 stars. The errors were classic signs of memory issues, but are not ALWAYS related to memory, and memtest never failed . . .)
These were available for a very good price when purchased. Assuming a good price vs. the competition, I would buy this memory line/from this manufacturer again.

Works with the Intel DP43BF Motherboard, July 27, 2011
By K. Ryan (Madison, MS USA)
|
|
Some of the Intel motherboards are sensitive to specific types of DDR3 memory modules. Many times this board will refuse to POST and sound three "beeps" to signal memory problems. After encountering a memory problem with my DP43BF while trying to use a "different" brand of memory module, I found an article stating the Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 modules work perfectly in the Intel DP43BF motherboard. For a fact, the Corsair 4GB CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 modules work perfectly. FYI, I am running the Intel Q6700 processor with 8GB memory and Windows 7 64 bit.

I would like to have an glass case to admire this beautiful memory.
4GiB is fine, but not enough for me. As programmer I use several browsers (with 30-60 tabs opened), a web server, eclipse, notepad++ and other utilities. 6GiB should be enough, but it's better to work with at least 8GiB of memory.

running like a champ, July 6, 2011
By M. Lamboy

I bought the entire I3 system: Intel processor, Intel MB, memory, HDs, windows 7... it all worked flawlessly unlike buying from newEgg. The newegg site will lead you to incompatible memory or processors and then they'll charge you a 20% restock fee. So far the only problem I've ever had with Amazon is the occasional late package or a wish I could send back some of the packaging since most things I receive are well protected. So again newegg gets the fickle finger of fate award!

Great!, June 12, 2011
By Andrew (San Antonio, TX USA)

I am using two (unmatched) sets of these modules in my AMD rig, for a total of 8GB. If you are interested, one set is rev 2.3, the other, 3.7. I actually tried upgrading to 8 a while ago, but one of the sticks were bad (one failure in Memtest86+). So I decided to be brave and try it again. They work great. Notable differences in certain (but not all) programs. Amazon return process was very quick and easy.
The modules come with sleek looking heat spreaders which are just the perfect height to use with my CM 212+. I can run these stable at 1600 with 9-9-9-24 1T timings at 1.65V and at 1333 with 7-7-7-20 1T timings at 1.5V. I haven't really tried anything else, but those worked for me (955 BE, 870 chipset).
Product is obviously high quality, comes with Corsair's limited lifetime warranty, not enthusiast fast, but fast enough for me. My bottleneck is my HDD. Didn't get the rebate this time (missed by a few days), but they do honor rebates pretty well.

Great RAM, May 28, 2011
By PC Guy
|
|
I purchased a set of this a year ago when I built my Core i5 750 computer. Recently, I bought another set to upgrade to 8GB total. Both have worked perfectly. It's too bad that you need to overclock the CPU (at least with i5s) to get the full 1600MHz speed, as otherwise it's only 1333MHz (not the ram's fault). I'd definitely buy Corsair RAM again.

Not bad, May 6, 2011
By coastie 1980 (Durham, NC)

For some reason this 1600 mhz ram is only being recognized at 1333, this may be my EVGA motherboard being stubborn. I have had no freeze ups with this ram, no errors and the system runs very smooth with an intel 875K processor running at default mode. I also ran it up a few notches a couple of times and it still runs flawlessly. I would buy this product again.

Great RAM, April 23, 2011
By Ben W.

I got these for my Phenom II X4 965 Black AM3 3.4Ghz 512KB 45NM 125W 4000MHZ on a Gigabyte Socket AM3/AMD 890GX/SATA3&USB3.0/A&V&GbE/ATX Motherboard GA-890GPA-UD3H and they work like a charm, no problems at all. Installation was a breeze, just pop them on the MOBO and that's it. If you're using them on an AMD just set them at 1333MHz and lower the latency to 7-7-7-24 @1.5V, a CAS 7 memory at an unbeatable price.

Working fantastic after one year in my HTPC, March 10, 2011
By John Parker (Fairfax, VA)
|
|
Bought this Christmas 2009 for my homebuilt HTPC in tiny m350 enclosure, still working great! Would have dropped into my new desktop I built since I rarely use the HTPC anymore after buying a WD tv live hub, but my cpu heat sink is so big it gets in the way of the first ram slot on my motherboard. Oh well... Would def buy again, only drawback is I like buying 4gb x2 these days instead of the 2gb x2 sets.

Works fine, but one downside, March 9, 2011
By Sathe
|
|
I have a powerful system and I bought this just for some cheap RAM, it works fine with my i5, the problem is windows rates it at around a 5 on the performance, where everything else is almost the highest rating it can be, I can't manually change anything but voltage on my ram in my bios, so I don't know if its a speed problem or what, but I figure it should be rated higher.

4 is better then 2, March 5, 2011
By Brendan J Vares
|
|
This is the Theory. My computer holds up to 16GB of RAM, and that would cost alot of money to buy 4 - 4Gb sticks or even 2 8's, but the Fewer Larger sticks of RAM the even faster it will be... I bought 2 - 2 Gb sticks which is decent memory now days being that it is better quality than that plain generic 8 Gb Dell will throw in there Computers but any ways....... It works great, I run Steam, CS, BF2 and MS Flight Sim and it handles well.... If your building a Starter Game rig then upgrading after wards or upgrading a Factory computer I would go with this, better then the plain of Sticks of ram at Wal Mart.

Great RAM for the price!! This RAM 1600Mhz is awesome on a Win 7 x64 platform in all areas. With the extra 4GB(8GB total) my games cruise, Win 7 x64 boots twice as fast, making my Win 7 box scream! Got this baby connected via a Radeon 5750 to a LG 42" LED LCD and trust me when I tell you that the 4GB to 8GB leap is well worth it! Ordered on a Monday, received the RAM by Wednesday. Very nice transaction and great performance to boot!

Great Ram, Great Price, February 5, 2011
By bt (East Lansing, MI USA)

Corsair is known for their quality computer parts, specifically RAM, and these are no different. I highly suggest these if your computer can use them, 4GBs can be a huge increase, even if you already running 4. Make sure you double check your motherboards specs to make sure it can run the RAM, and if you are using over 4GB make sure you have a 64bit processor.
Amazon definitely had the best price for this when I bought it, and on top of that price had a $10 rebate. This RAM definitely gives you more bang for your buck.

I purchased this for my i5 PC buildup with Win 7 64-bit using a Gb P55A-UD3 and everything ran smoothly - except for my EVGA GTX460 (but thats another review). Big step up from my P4 so no complains here. I'm actually considering purchasing another set to bump up my memory to 8gb.

Good deal & easy to install, January 2, 2011
By Chelsea (Houston, TX United States)
|
|
I've put in a lot of RAM in computers over the past 15 years but I really love these with heat spreaders on them so you can just grab the middle & place it in with minimal pressure to seat the rails in. Easiest install I have ever had. I love hearing the "click click" without any effort whatsoever and knowing it's seated properly in the slots. Booted up the system & BAM! I'm running at full speed without any glitches. Just be double sure that ALL the specifications meet your computer's requirements. I think a lot of people who complain don't look at all the specs and that is why the system doesn't recognize it. Now that I bought RAM with shields on I don't think I will ever buy any without it again.

Ahh, 4GB on a 32 bit OS., December 20, 2010
By Hunter Hutchins
|
|
I'm running Windows XP with these. It should be more memory than I ever care to have, but who knows? This is the limit for 32 bit systems. Address space claims 1.01GB, leaving 2.99GB for programs.
For a while I was getting stop errors - turns out one of the modules was bad, and Corsair asked me to send BOTH back to them "because they're matched." So I just didn't have the computer while we were doing that.
Also, those spreaders irritate me. Just saying. I don't know if they are actually necessary. Don't care about corsair and XMS3...
Any way, a solid chunk of memory at an absurd price if you happen to need DDR3. Why not? Includes three memory clamshells.
