Great way to ease anxiety from doctor's visits, August 10, 2010
My 2 year old daughter loved this book. As she grew to realize what the doctor's office meant (shots), she got a phobia of everything that had to do with both the pediatrician and her office. There would be wailing, screaming, you name it. To help quell her anxiety and help her understand how the exam goes, I got her this book. She loves the Berenstein Bears, and this book helped her greatly. It essentially takes you through the typical doctor's visit. We'd read the book, then pretend play that we were at the doc's office, with her alternately as the doc and as patient. She flew through her last visit, with all smiles, very cooperative about opening her mouth etc., and no tears this time, not even with the three shots she got. One of our favorites.

Who doesn't love the bears!?, February 6, 2010

Just another Berenstain Bears book! My daughter can read them over and over. And for some reason she LOVES the doctor one! I thought it might help a bit when it came to shot time at the doctor. But it didn't. She still freaked out!!! (She is 4yrs old). But it was nice for me to remind her how sister bear was brave and hopefully shots will be easier at the next visit!?

Cute book but didn't hold my daughter's attention, August 26, 2008

I purchased this book to help my daughter get over her fear of the Dr.'s office. The book is cute but the story just didn't hold her attention. She ended up walking away about one third of the way into it.

good doctor book, November 3, 2006
This book was the favorite book for my young children (now grown) when we were preparing for doctor visits. It is still beloved by my retarded son who is now 31, and I have bought many copies for him through the years. It covers all the important topics: anticipation (dread), waiting room, routine exams, and possible shots. All of this is with pictures and words.

Wonderful!, December 15, 2005
The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.
All kids have fears of the doctor, and why shouldn't they? Most doctor's visits for young kids involve lots of uncomfortable poking and prodding, and, more often than not, shots. Yikes! However, going to the doctor is still necessary, we all have to do it. This book will help open a dialogue to let your child discuss their fears, and let you discuss why visiting the doctor is so important. Kids will enjoy the gentle humor and honest portrayal of a doctor's visit (yep, Sister Bear has to get a shot!) and the consequences when you don't go to the doctor (Papa gets sick). A great conversation starter!
