Product Description:

Much like his hero, Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci, bestselling author Andy Riley is not just an artist (or a liar)—he's an inventor. Imagine, if you will:
  • The easily assembled Pole-Dancing-Club-in-a-Briefcase for stranded businessmen
  • Christmas tree ornaments that provide surveillance to instantly tell Santa if you've been bad or good
  • A high-speed police response unit aptly named the Cop Catapult
  • The Arsehole Trap, which can clear an average size town of arseholes in a single day with its promise of Big Brother auditions

Like a twenty-first-century Rube Goldberg on the wrong mix of meds, in DIY Dentistry and Other Alarming Inventions Andy Riley has created elaborate inventions that are often side-splittingly sociopathic and never short of patently hysterical.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Creativity shines, June 23, 2013
By Letao
Like a lot of people, I discovered this after reading the Bunny Suicides series by the same author. This book has the same style of humor, so if you liked his other books, it's a very safe bet that you'll like this too.

I can understand why some people didn't get laughs out of this - the style of humor is quite dry, and for me it's not meant to be hilarious. Personally I will admit that I didn't literally laugh out loud while reading this book either. However, what I do love is how creative all of the wacky concepts are. It's amazing just trying to imagine what must go through the author's head when he drew each page, and that's the reason I enjoy these books.

In psychology, a common way to test people's creativity is by asking them to list as many unusual alternatives for a mundane theme as possible. For example, "name all the things you can do with a brick". Try this yourself and you'll see how hard it is to think of many good ideas. That's the essence of what this book (and all his other works) delivers: dozens of wonderfully creative concepts, all playfully illustrated.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not very funny, March 31, 2013
By Chantel
Some of them were amusing, but I read through it very fast and then returned it because I only cracked a smile once or twice.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bunny suicides fans will enjoy this too, August 26, 2012
By Meaghan
A series of cartoons of Rube Goldberg contraptions which, unlike Riley's most famous works, are not limited to helping bunnies commit suicide. Although this is not as funny as his Bunny Suicides books, it was quite amusing and worth a look. My favorite one was the automatic tree-planting Hummer that will ease the guilt you feel for destroying the environment.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  creative, short, cute funny, May 17, 2009
By Book loving mom
This is another cute book by Andy Riley. We like all of his books, although they can be a bit irreverant at times. This one is pretty tame compared to the rest. I wish it were longer!
