2.0 out of 5 stars  my both Sonicares have dead batteries and thus useless. I went back to my Oral-B
By A Customer on December 18, 2015
I bought a pair of Sonicare toothbrushes less then one and a half year ago to replace my Oral-B's. Now, my both Sonicares have dead batteries and thus useless. I went back to my Oral-B. Wow! It is still working.
My first Sonicare failed only several months into usage. All of a sudden, the toothbrush turned on all by itself, and repeatedly. With its high frequency vibrations, it sounded like an alarm clock -- especially during the middle of the night. So I gave up on that one and started using the second one; that was February this year. And only yesterday, while I was brushing my teeth with it, it suddenly went dead and I can no longer recharge it!
When it works, the Sonicare brush did a great job. They did a thorough cleaning and I like the feeling better than I do with the Oral-B brushes. But this Sonicare product by Philips is clearly flawed. The problems with the battery are abundantly clear from many reviews. Had I read those reviews beforehand, I would not have bought them.

A mandatory purchase in my opinion. Just had a checkup yesterday and my dentist said my dental care was outstanding.

BELOW IS MY EXCHANGE WITH SONICARE CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU DECIDE.

Victor: Hello Ken

Victor: How may I assist you?

Ken: hello. how are you?

Victor: I am fine Ken

Victor: how are you?

Ken: i am well. thanks for askng. I was given a Sonicare HX9500 as a gift just over 1 year ago. The person who gave it to me does not have the receipt. The main handle with the buttons on it has a problem. the main green button has ripped.

Victor: I apologize you are having this experience and will be happy to help you.

Victor: What is the model number (HX number), serial number and the date of purchase of your unit? The HX model and serial numbers are located on the bottom or inside the well of the toothbrush handle.

Victor: Please ignore the link

Victor: What is the model number (HX number), serial number and the date of purchase of your unit? The HX model and serial numbers are located on the bottom or inside the well of the toothbrush handle.

Ken: I will give you all the info that is on the handle and charging base of the unit. the handle info says 070226 and then below it says HX9500.

Victor: Ken we will need the purchase receipt of this unit to process a replacement of the handle as this unit looks out of two year warranty

Ken: I have checked with my aunt and she does not have the receipt. I got it two Christmases ago, 12/2011, and she bought it from the local drug store in her town in the same month.

Victor: I am sorry Ken without the purchase receipt we will be able to process the repalacment

Ken: i hoped that you would help me. i am surprised that this very expensive unit failed so soon. i guess i will replace it with a better brand. the sonicare does not seem to hold up. i will ask my dentist for a recommendation of a competitive brand.

Ken: i will check for online reviews of the sonicare and maybe tell of my experience with sonicare.

Victor: Is there anything else I may assist you with today?

Ken: so there is no help from sonicare for a unit that was used less than 18 months. i am surprised that you do not make exceptions and do a good will replacement. the bad thing is that i just purchased three new brush heads. very disappointing experience.

Ken: sonicare should be more careful with its inventory in this large chain drug store. it is obvious that this unit was sitting on the shelf for a while.

Ken: well there are good companies and there are bad companies. i will copy and paste this chat for my online review.

Victor: I am sorry Ken but we will not be able to replace this unit without the purchase receipt , if the purchaser can get a copy of purchase receipt from the retailer we can order a replacement

Ken: i just hope that my negative review of sonicare will be a fair warning for anyone that is thinking of purchasing a toothbrush. i will have to warn my dentist of your poor quality product and uncaring attitude in customer care.

Victor: Is there anything else I may assist you with today?

2.0 out of 5 stars  Annoying maintenance etc.
By Jozie on January 23, 2012
Owned an Oral-B for 10+ happy years. Attractive pricing on Sonicare caused me to defect. Totally regretful. It thoroughly puzzles me that a design of a medical appliance causes a colossal harbor for bacteria/mold. Consumer needs to take the thing apart each week and resort to Q-tips etc. to at least ensure visual cleanliness. Fact is, growth of the nasties commences immediately whether it's visible or not and compounds with the number of uses in a given period. This same weird design accomplishes an ongoing revenue stream for the manufacturer because the screw-on brush head unique to this product is very expensive to replace comparatively...especially on the recommended schedule of every three months. That said, the cleaning action is quite good. But then, so was Oral-B's. And the closed design and cheap brush heads far exceeded their Sonicare counterparts.
