Product Description:

Cleft Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies: Effects on Speech and Resonance is the only book of its kind to cover both oral and facial anomalies, as well as cleft palate. Designed as a how-to guide for the practicing clinician, this book emphasizes what students need to know in the workplace to evaluate and treat individuals with speech disorders related to structural anomalies. Common craniofacial anomalies, associated anomalies, and genetic syndromes are also included. There is basic information on anatomy, physiology, and embryology of the face and oral cavity.

The book covers how oral, dental, and ENT anomalies affect speech, resonance, and feeding. The evaluation section includes practical information on how to conduct a perceptual evaluation of speech and resonance and an intraoral examination. An overview chapter on instrumental procedures is provided for students, and chapters on how to perform and interpret these procedures is provided for clinicians. The treatment section includes surgical procedures and the use of prosthetic devices.

Specific speech-therapy techniques are described for the treatment of speech errors associated with resonance disorders and velopharyngeal dysfunction. The need for multidisciplinary team assessment and treatment is also stressed. This book is easy to read to maximize learning. Many quality illustrative videos and video case studies are used to provide practical knowledge on how to evaluate and treat affected individuals.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy read, August 21, 2017
By Loren Montgomery
I actually really enjoyed his book. I felt a lot of it was repetitive but it's an easy read. I think this was the first textbook I've actually thoroughly studied for class. Also, we only used about 10 chapters because a lot of it is about surgery and stuff that an SLP would never perform.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great resource for one and all...., May 03, 2017
By A Customer
Teaching a graduate class in Communication Disorders....this is a great resource. Although all the chapters are well written, with practice activities, and handouts, even if you can't teach all chapters, you can pull out the various chapters to be covered. Each chapter can stand alone. The methods discussed are written in such a fashion that students can become clinicians....and successful clinicians at that. The assessment and intervention strategies are very user friendly, practical, and research based.
I would recommend this for instruction of beginning student clinicians to seasoned clinicians.

I bought the Kindle version of the book, thinking that the access code would come with it because the description doesn't state otherwise. However, it doesn't come with the access code, so now I have to go through the extra trouble of trying to get one.

By Mubark
I really love this book. It's really rare to find introductory book that it's not too simple not too difficult in the same time. I got this book when i was a student for one of my bachelor degree courses. It's also give you therapy ideas and everything is written large font which i like and lots of pictures.
